Lopez, PA Posted on July 20, 2018 by Bob McGuireJuly 20, 2018

We had some hot and humid days this past week.  Also had a couple of thunder storms with heavy rain on both Saturday and Sunday.  I guess the gardens will get a good drink from that rain.   Guess we will get more during the week.

Mother Galina and Mother Seraphima, Orthodox Monastery, Ellwood

City spent a few days at St. Nicholas House on Church Street.

Mama bear and her cubs are still around checking out bird feeders and empty burning barrels.   Guess they just like it here.

Don’t forget, Lopez Old Home Day is ONE day this year; Saturday, August 4th, Noon to Midnight.  Check out Lopez Civic Association on Face Book.  Posters are out and about.  Our ad was in the Sully last week and will be in again on Wednesday, the 25th.  Hope to see you there.

Happy Birthday wishes to Matthew Santarelli and Barbara Craig,17th; Adam Aharonian, 18th; Evalyn Lansberry and Sr. Ella Mae McDonald, 20th; and Matt Beaver, 21st.  Hope you all have a good day.

B’s gang sends birthday wishes to Billy Stasiak on the 23rd.  Have a good one.

HINT:  ” Salt mixed with soapy water is perfect for killing poison ivy.”

(I tried the hint with the water, sugar and boric acid powder for getting rid of ants.  DID NOT WORK.   The ants went all around the dish; never went in the dish, so don’t know if I did something wrong or what.  Maybe someone else can let me know if they tried it and if it worked.)

Bob and I attended the Che-Hanna picnic on Sunday, held at Saterlee Creek Park in Litchfield.  Many in attendance; good food; nice visiting and enjoying games too.  Had no rain at all there.

Adel Bradshaw, West Chester, is spending a few days at her home here.

Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, spent Saturday visiting Bob and JoAnn McGuire and Brian McGuire.  Had a nice time while they were here.

Sts/ Peter and Paul Byzantine Church, Church Street, will have services on Sunday, the 29th.  All are welcome and they have social hour after church.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever you want to do.  I know many are working in their gardens; they are looking good.  Flower beds and hanging baskets are also doing well.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Bridge is coming along fine.  Not all of the work is done by big machines.  Looking good guys.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 12, 2018 by Bob McGuireJuly 12, 2018

Hope you all had an enjoyable Fourth holiday. The weather wasn’t really in our favor on the 4th with the storm that cropped up.  Heavy thunder, rain, lightning, and our power was off for seven hours.  Not good for those having picnics and parties.  The flower beds and gardens are doing really well.  The weekend turned out super with nice weather.  Was good for quad riding and motorcycle rides and saw lots of them.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire enjoyed spending time on Tuesday with Marty and Dee Whatley at their home on Route 487.  Had a nice picnic and Marty got ready to grill and said “wait a while; there’s a bear around the corner of the house”.

4-H Rocketry meetings will be on Mondays,  the 16th and 23rd at the Extension Office in Dushore at 2 p.m.  Launch date is the 28th.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire went to a picnic in Forty Fort on the 4th, at the home of Michael, Georgia and Mcguire Martin.  Also there was Mike and Lola Mattie, their friend, Roxie, and Casey Martin and her friend, Tom.   An enjoyable time for all after the rain finally quit.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 17th, 6 p.m., at the Pavilion.  Will decide on a work bee to clean  up before Old Home Day.

I guess from what I’ve seen on FB, the bear(s) are still around visiting and getting more friendly.

Check out www.lopezpa.com to check on the bridge work and see the progress.    It’s looking pretty good.

On Saturday evening, Bob McGuire, aka UVBOB, presented a fluorescent mineral program for the campers at World’s End State Park.  Was a good attendance and good time for all.  Thank you Jane Swift for inviting us.

DON’T FORGET………..OLD HOME DAY will be ONE day only; SATRUDAY, August 4th, Noon – Midnight.  Check out the ad in this week’s paper.

Don and Irene (Kravitz) Risser were in town for the long July 4th week-end.  Visiting them were their younger son, Aaron, and their granddaughter, Leah Elizabeth.  They spent lots of time outside hiking the Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen and kayaking at Lake Jean.  They saw lots of wildlife–a blue heron, a pair of bald eagles, deer, and a black bear.  On Sunday evening, Mary Kravetz of Lopez and Annabelle Kravetz of Mildred came for dinner and to celebrate Mamie’s birthday on July 2.

Mother Magdalena, Orthodox Monastery, Ellwood City, spent a few days at St. Nicholas House on Church Street.

St. Vlaimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Happy Birthday wishes to Loretta Weidner and Samantha Burke, both on the 10th; Dan Stasiak, 11th; Quinn Vinetelli, 12th; Woody Woodford, 13th; and David Black and Molly Johnson, both on the 14th.   Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Heather McDonald and Jeffrey and Kristin (McDonald) Mensch as they both celebrated on the 7th.  Also, to David and Lavonne Black and Matt and Sherrill Dayton on the 14th.  Have a nice day.

B’s gang send birthday wises to Bill Stasiak as his special day was on the 6th.  Hope it was a good one.

HINT:  “Use apple cider vinegar on poison ivy.  Dries it up with no itch.”  (Saw this on FB.)

Congratulations to Kyleigh McDonald on winning a new bike at the turtle races held in New Albany on Sunday.  She also won a turtle race.   She’s one happy camper.

Keep an eye on the Sully for events coming up that you may be interested in.  Lots going on during the summer months.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; I hear it’s to warm up again.  It’ll be over before we know it and then we’ll complain that it’s too cold.  I’ll take this over the snow, ice and cold.

Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Here we are ready to go over the new north side of the Main Street bridge.  Now they

started work on the south side.

What a nice weekend.  I’ll take more, please.  Heard the week is to be pretty hot, but that’s ok, after the cold and snow we had.  Will  be good pool weather.  Will make the gardens grow.  Did have a short burst of rain and thunder on Sunday afternoon, but didn’t last long at all.

Have to make a couple of corrections from last week’s paper.  Lopez Old Home Day this year will be ONE day; SATURDAY, August 4th, from Noon to Midnight.  There will be NO Sunday.  Will have the same activities going on, starting with the CHICKEN DINNER at Noon.  Lots of fun for everyone.  Watch the Sully for the Old Home Day ad.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray.  Sophie Bednar, Owego, NY, also spent a couple of days.

Fourth Period Honor Roll:   Distinguished Honors – Kyler Burke and Aaron Kinsey.  Honor Roll:  Paige Burke and Jacob Williams.  Congratulations.  Job well done.  Good job to all who made it to the next grade.

Safely back home to Lopez. Total miles 6281. Mechanical problems none.  We did the whole Route 66 pathway from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. Then at the end of the Route 66 venture we turned south for San Clemente. It was approximately 150 miles of road we did not have planned to travel but it was important to me to visit the final resting place of a friend of mine. All three of my riding partners did not hesitate to make the ride on California highways to make it happen. Thank you Michael D. Cook, Bill Walton and Michael Edison.  We split up in Nashville and On my return trip I stayed overnight in Knoxville with my sister-in-law Eileen Eggers Jerrolds and her husband (and my friend) Larry. I was treated like royalty there and appreciated the quality visit. On Saturday I rode the ten hours non-stop from Knoxville to Berlin NJ to be with my son, daughter-in-law and GRANDSON Jase. I spent fathers day there with them and headed back to Lopez first thing this morning.
In addition to no break downs I had zero rain days not even a spritzing.   Thanks to my lovely wife Mary Eggers Lowden and the other folks who supported me on this adventure. It’s a big country out there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order call  570-928-1099.

Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, spent Wednesday to Sunday with us and also with Uncle “B”.  Had an enjoyable time.  Got to have pool time with Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald and played some soccer with them.  Went kayaking with Uncle “B”.  Got some running in to get in shape for the up-coming soccer season at Lake-Lehman High School.   Congratulations to him for making the President’s List for the fourth period.  He ranks third in his class of 139.  Very proud of his accomplishments.

Happy Birthday wishes to Mary Kravetz, Don Springer and Stacey Olsen, July 2nd; and Brandan McCobin, 4th.

Happy Anniversary to Kurt and Linda (Popso) Schroeder as they celebrate on the 3rd.  Have a good day.

Alena Grozav, from Moldova, currently living in Germany, visited Lopezfor four days as a guest of Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, at their home on Church Street. During her visit she enjoyed walking in the creek and also visiting Lake Jean.  She saw bear, deer, turkey and chipmunks.  Also saw something few people get to see….. a mother bear under a tree nursing her two babies.  WOW!!  She also took bike rides with Joe; went to Dushore and, of course, visited Jolly Trolley.  Enjoyed the mountains and forests so much she can’t wait to come back.

B’s  gang sends Birthday greetings to Chris Darrow as his special day is the 2nd.

HINT:  Weed-be-Gone:  1 Gallon vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salt, 1/4 cup original Blue Dawn  dish detergent.  Mix it up and spray on anything you want to kill.  Do this early in the morning when the dew has evaporated.  Go back after dinner and it’s all gone.  Never buy Round-Up gain.” (I’m going to try this and see if it really works.)

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, July 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  We are planning a work bee to clean the Pavilion before Old Home Day.  We need volunteers, so I’ll be in touch when we get a firm date.  If you might be available, please give me a call.  We can use the help.

Guess that’s about it for now.  Keep an eye on the Sully for events happening around the County.  Enjoy your week; it’s going to be great.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Bridge work still progressing very well.  Concrete poured for the north parapet and the road surface is curing.

Lopez, PA Posted on June 15, 2018 by Bob McGuireJune 15, 2018

Weather has been getting better.  Had some nice days during the week and Saturday.  Did have rain and cool temperature all day Sunday.  But, I guess that’s good as the gardens and flower beds need the water.   The flower gardens and hanging baskets are looking nice and the gardens are coming along.   We’ll see what the week brings.

WOW!!   We are really having a problem with so many bears.   About 9 a.m. on Monday morning, we heard a funny noise from our bedroom.  Went to the other room and Bob sees a bear on our roof, after the bird feeder.  She climbed 23 feet of our antenna tower, got on the roof.  Bob scared her back down but not for long; she came back up; stood on the tower and reached until she pulled the feeder down and licked all the seed off the roof.  She finally left, went over the hill where her two cubs were in the apple tree.   She came back the next day, but there was nothing there for her.  There are two mama bears, each with two cubs and three male bears.  They’ve been up Main Street.  There is video of one climbing on a porch railing to get food, one tore the door right off a small shed.  And, this is early in the day, early afternoon and some evenings.  It’s scary to be out and about and with school out, it’s a danger for the kids.  And, the Game Commission doesn’t want to do anything!!!   Bob was coming into town on Saturday evening and a BIG bear crossed the road and headed to the Township Building for some goodies.  They say put your garbage in your garage or shed, but I don’t think that would stop them from getting it.   If you go to www.lopezpa.com, click on Lopez news and scroll down and you will see her on the roof.   There are also pictures of the bridge work being done in town.  It’s coming along and will probably be late October before it’s finished.

Flea Market, Saturday, the 16th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pavilion.  You may find something you’ve been looking for.  Stop over and take a look.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Next Civic meeting will be Tuesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion unless it’s really bad weather.  If so, it will be in the Township Building.

On Friday, Patti and Danielle Geeza from Bloomfield, NJ visited Mother Christophora at St. Nicholas House. It was their first visit to peaceful Lopez and they enjoyed seeing the area, St. Vladimir’s Church and St. Nicholas House. They also purchased a selection of the fine foods made by the people of St. Vladimir’s Church to enjoy back home in NJ.

On Saturday and Sunday Kristin Iwancio and her sons, TAI and Luke, visited Mother Christophora staying at St. Nicholas House. They enjoyed the sunny weather on Saturday and attending Divine Liturgy and coffee hour at St. Vladimir’s Church on Sunday before returning to their daddy, who had to work the weekend, and to their home in Harrisburg.

Happy Birthday wishes to Nathan Kinsey, 17th; and Dana Dempsey, 20th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Bob and Lisa Burke as they celebrate on the 19th.  Have a nice day and many more.

HINT:  ” Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car.  Remove quickly with WD-40. It also attracts fish.  Spray a little WD-40 on live bait or lures and you’ll be catching the big one in no time.  (Don’t know if these work or not.)

I’m sure there are going to be things going on in Sullivan County, so keep and eye on the Sully to find out.

Mountain Steak has opened for the summer.  Owned by Stacey Olsen, it’s at the bottom of Red Rock Mountain, just up on the right when you turn left onto Route 118.  You can also check them out on Face Book.   Just type Mountain Steak in the search.  Has lots of information and comments.

Guess that’s about all the news for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Hopefully, it will warm up so people can enjoy their pools.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on June 7, 2018 by Bob McGuireJune 7, 2018

Let me just say the weather was perfect for our Memorial Day parade.  I’m late getting my Memorial Day news in as I send my news over on Sunday evening and then was busy with Memorial Day things.  So, I’ll give a brief account of what went on.   First, thanks Joyce Hails for the good job she did in painting the bombs in the park and the flag pole at the monument.  Thanks to Brian McGuire for putting the red letters on the bombs.  Since the bridge in town is being worked on, the parade started a little closer to the park.  Thanks to all those who marched.  Thanks to Sam Burke for being in charge of getting kids to participate for the Civic Association.  I was lax in getting this done earlier, so maybe we’ll have more kids next year. Thanks to Brian McGuire for the sound system.  Clinton Higley, Jr. was an excellent speaker; the band did well and looked really nice in their uniforms; Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald did well in placing the wreath at the monument, which was made by Heather McDonald.  Thanks to all of you who came out to make the day special.

Weather has been off and on with cool, then warm, then dark and cloudy.  I heard for the week it’s to be showery until Thursday.   We’ll see what we get.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Flag Day coming on the 14th; fly your American flag proudly.

Flea market coming up on Saturday, the 16th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Something for everyone.  There will be Lopez hoodies and t-shirts available for sale.

Congratulations to Katie Winiger and Drew on the birth of their baby girl, Evelyn Jo, on May 30th.  Grandmother is Wendy (Walosin) Balik; great grandmother is Mrs. Carmela Walosin.  Drew, Katie and Evelyn Jo are all doing well.

Hard to realize that the month of June is into the second week already.  Kids will be out of school and enjoying their summer vacation.   Please drive slowly when on these streets as the kids do ride bikes, scooters and play on the road.

Bridge work is coming along well.  Talked to one of the guys the other day and asked when he thought it might be done.  He said it’s very hard to tell, but they’re hoping late October.  If sooner, that will be good too.  Never know when the weather isn’t going to cooperate.   Check out the Lopez website, click on Lopez News, and you can see the progress.

Next Civic meeting will be Tuesday, June 19th, 6 p.m.  I think it will be warm enough to meet at the Pavilion.

Lots of summer activities on the horizon.  Check the Sully to find out.  Kids will be involved in sports; 4-H clubs have started; many different things.

I see folks are finally getting a lot of their garden planted and I see a lot of flowers and hanging baskets too.  Just hope the weather stays nice so it all doesn’t get ruined.

Mr. Bear has been around.  He’s a big guy and takes down the feeder even if it’s empty.  There is also a Mama Bear with two cubs running around.  They are coming out earlier in the day, so be aware.  Never know when you might see them.  With the kids out of school and out and about, it can be a danger with them so close.

Had a nice visit with Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, when they came to spend the day on Saturday.   Congratulations to Tyler on the awards he got at moving up day at Lake Lehman Jr./Sr. High School.  Proud of him.   A Chemistry Award and a Spanish award.

HINT:  “Once a month use original Dawn as you would shampoo.  It will remove excess oil from your hair and scalp and strip away any build-up of styling products without any damage.  Perform this once a month and you won’t have to buy expensive salon products that do the same thing.”

Happy Birthday wishes to Sandra Kriel, 14th.  Hope you have a great day.

B’s gang says Happy Birthday to Nina Weslowski, 14th; and Marty Slocum, 16th.  Have a nice day.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.  Got some yard work done.  Had the bear up there on Friday evening.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; at least we don’t have the “white” stuff to worry about.  So, it’s a little hot and humid.  I’ll take that over snow and cold any time.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

NOTE:  2018 OLD HOME DAYS, SUNDAY CHICKEN DINNER IS BACK  —   MUSIC BY THE GYPSY’S  2  TO  5

9:00 Monday morning heard thumping out back.  Went from the bedroom to next room to see what it was and looked out the second story window and there is a bear on our roof messing with my bird feeder.  Tried to show her off and take a few photos at the same time but she was more interested in the bird seed.  ‘She climbed up 23 feet of my TV tower to get on the roof.  She tore the feeder down and with the sound of a 22 shot in the air, she started down the tower.  As she went over the hill, two cubs came down from an apple tree and followed.

Lopez, PA Posted on May 30, 2018 by Bob McGuireJune 1, 2018

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.  Saturday was such a nice day.  Sunday had some showers, but wasn’t a total wash out.  The week is to bring more showers and some nice days too.

Got the following to share from Adel Bradshaw who spent a few days at her home on Church Street:

So Friday night a raccoon came to visit the seed feeders on the deck and was shooed away.  I brought the feeders in at that point and last night as well, but left the hummingbird feeders out.  This morning, around 4:30, there was a huge thud on the deck that told me it wasn’t the raccoon back again, but rather, a bear.  My movement to the door was enough to scare him off, but only as far as the hummingbird feeder in the yard.  He stood up on his hind legs, one paw on the tree for balance the other paw tilting the feeder for a nice, long, sweet drink!  I figured that if I scared him, he might demolish the feeder, so I waited until he drained it and was back down on the ground.  Then I opened the door and shooed him off.  Guess I can’t leave any feeders out while I’m gone, at least until there’s more food in the woods and he goes back where he came from.  He (or she) was a good size.  Certainly not like the cubs that came to visit last year!

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Mark and Lisa Fenster, son, Mark, and his wife, and grand kids, Eva and Lily Lopez,  all from Philly, spent the Holiday weekend at their home on Church Street.  Enjoyed time with Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald.

Irene Huray spent some time with her daughter, Irene Pequignot, in Linden.

A big crowd attended B’s 21st annual Turkey Smoke on Sunday.  Lots of food, games, swimming and a fantastic fireworks display to round off the evening.  The class of 1993 also held their 25th reunion there.   Great time was had by all.

Tent City on Factory Road had some families in to enjoy the weekend.

Civic Association flea market, Saturday, June 16th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Something for everyone.   Hope to see you there.  I’m just hoping the weather will be nice for all the Memorial Day parades that will be held in the County.

Happy Birthday wishes to Shelly Craig, June 1st; Lydia Stasiak, 5th; Lynn Malkemes, 8th; Matt Dayton, 10th.  Special birthday wishes to our friend, Gus Tamburro, as he celebrates on the 10th.    Hope you all have a nice day.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire visited their son, Bob Jr. and Tyler, Hunlock Creek, on Wednesday.  Got to see their little critters in the yard.  Had a nice time.

With the summer coming upon us, there will probably be lots of things going on in Sullivan County.  Keep abreast of it all by watching the Sully.   Hopefully, there will be some nicer weather so folks can work in their gardens and flower beds.  Right now it’s too muddy and wet; just Mother Nature giving us too much rain.

HINT:  “To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle the plants with cayenne pepper.  It won’t hurt the plants and the squirrels won’t come near it.”

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, even if you need the umbrella and boots.  At least you don’t have to shovel it.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.

The new bridge is coming along as you can see.  The north side now has new main rails.  The new bridge will be a bit longer than the old one.

Lopez, PA Posted on May 23, 2018 by Bob McGuireJune 1, 2018

Geez, Louise, another week and weekend with rain, cold and wind.   Sure hope Memorial Day weekend will be good for parades, picnics and outdoor plans.  We can only wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.  I think we’ve had enough rain to last for quite some time and we need sun and warm weather.  Folks really want to work in their gardens and get their hanging baskets out, but with the rain and wind, that’s kinda hard to do.   Then, we have the bear that likes to take down bird feeders and walk through the gardens; also the deer like to eat the nice leaves that are growing on a newly planted apple tree.  Oh, don’t forget, there are woodchucks and chipmunks that like to ruin things too.  Sometimes you can’t win for trying, but we keep trying.

KIDS……if you’d like to march in the Memorial Day parade on the 28th, meet at the Post Office at 9:45 a.m.  Sam Burke will be in charge.   Service will be held in the Park at 10 a.m., with Clinton Higley, Jr. being our guest speaker.

Congratulations to TJ and Allison Lowden, Marlton, NJ, on the birth of their first baby.  Jase Thaddeus was born on May 14th, weighing in at 9 lbs. 6 oz.  All are doing well.  Happy grandparents are Ted and Mary Lowden, Maple Terrace.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

The annual Lopez Civic flea market will be held on Saturday, June 16th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Table space available.  There will be NO set up fee.  For info call me at the number below.

HINT:  “With tick season being quite bad this year, get a lint roller with adhesive layers.  Roll on your clothes every so often to remove ticks.  Essential oils are also good for keeping ticks from climbing on you.  You can spray it on clothing and rub it into your skin.  Best kinds are lavender, pennyroyal, lemongrass, lemon and eucalyptus.”   (Hope this helps.)

Sympathy from the community to the Woodruff family on the passing of “Woody”.  Great person and was as asset to Dushore and surrounding areas.  He will be missed.

Sympathy from the community on the passing of Mrs. Joan Heath.  Very friendly and will miss seeing her riding in the truck around town to pick up the trash.  Always had a smile and a wave.

Bridge work is coming along, slowly.  With the bad weather they couldn’t work for a few days and then there was a tornado warning that didn’t help.

Check out the Lopez website for pictures of the progress.   Pretty interesting.   One of the guys who worked for Wagman on the bridge going toward Mildred, is also working on the bridge in town.  Small world.

Before we know it, the month of May will be over.  Hardly seems possible that time has moved that fast.  I know there are probably things going on in the County, so keep an eye on the Sully for that information.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jake Gardner who will be 90 on the 26th.  If you see him around, wish him a happy day.  Michele Craig has a birthday the same day.  Nick DeSanto has a birthday on the 29th and Bruno Day celebrates on the 31st.  Have a good day.

B’s gang sends wishes to Sandy Pardoe as she celebrates her special day on the 31st.  Hope it’s great.

Happy Anniversary to Tony and Patti Sneidar, 26th; Joe and Diane Fanning, 28th; and Joyce and Jack Walsh, 29th.  Congrats and many more.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week and hope for NICE, warm, sunny weather.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at  news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

THIS IS JERRY, THE GUY THAT ALSO WORKED ON THE NEW BRIDGE ON 487 GOING TO MILDRED.  JERRY OPERATES THE PILE DRIVER.  HE WILL BE BACK TO DRIVE MORE PILES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE.

The 2018 Lopez Commemorative Mug honors The Weldon Pajama Factory.  Originally the building housed the Mason Silk Mill.  The pajama factory employed 150 people (125 were girls) from Lopez and surrounding towns.  They produced 12000 pairs of pajamas weekly, including every style of pajamas worn by men and women.  The materials used were domet, broadcloth, sateen, and silk.  They were popular in the big cities.  The main claim to fame was that 10 pairs were made for the movie “Pajama Game” with Doris Day and John Raitt released in 1957.  The factory burned and closed in 1956 just before the movie was released.

Rain, rain, go away and DON’T come back another day.  What a cold, heavy rainy weekend.   It did turn out nice for a little while on Saturday, between the down pours.  Can you believe it’s to rain every day this week!!!   Sure hope it will be nice for Memorial Day and things get dried out really well.   Can’t mow the lawn; too wet.  Can work in the garden; too wet.  Mother Nature needs to give us sunshine and warmth for quite some time.    Hope you all had an enjoyable Mother’s Day weekend.

Thanks to Joyce Hails; Clair Johnson II; Heather, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald, Vito Arcaro; and Bob, JoAnn and Brian McGuire who showed up Saturday for park clean-up.  Great job was done, despite a couple of rain storms that came through.

Adel Bradshaw, West Chester, spent a few days at her home here.  Thought it was going to be nicer, but had an enjoyable time.  Was surprised to see the work coming along on the bridge.  Check the Lopez website for photos of the work.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent some time at their home on Church Street.  Got quite a lot of yard work done, in between the showers.

Memorial Day speaker for Lopez will be Clinton Higley, Jr., in the Park, 10 a.m. on that Monday.  Placing the wreath will be Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and Tyler, Hunlock Creek, visited Bob and JoAnn McGuire on Saturday for early Mother’s Day.

HINT:  ” Start putting in your plants; work the nutrients in your soil.  Wet newspapers and put layers around the plants, over-lapping as you go.  Cover with mulch and forget about weeds.  Weeds will go through some gardening plastic, but they will not get through wet newspapers.”   (This may be a good hint…..if you get to plant the garden.

Birthday wishes to Janet Weidner, 22nd; Susan Aharonian, 24th; and Tanya Stasiak, 25th.  Have a nice day.

St. Vladimir’s Church will have a halupki dinner on Sunday, May 20th, Noon to 4 p.m at the Hall.  Eat in or take out.    They also have pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week; might need the umbrella, but we can be glad it’s not the “white” stuff.  Hopefully, warmer weather is on the way.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopez.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Weekend wasn’t the greatest again.  Saturday was a really nice day, but Sunday was a rainy, cold day.  Supposed to warm up again, so we’ll see.

It is with sadness that I report the passing of Doc Shoemaker on the 2nd of May.  He was a nice man to everyone and an icon of Dushore.  He will be deeply missed.  There will be a viewing on Friday, May 11th, from 1-6 p.m. at Dean Homer’s.

Got the following e-mail to share:   Andrew Sysock Sr., 94, of Clark, NJ,  WWII Navy veteran, one of nine brothers who served in wartime, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018. Andrew Sysock Sr. was born in Lopez, Pa., to Anthony and Catherine Sysock. Mr. Sysock proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. His eight brothers also served their country during World War II.   Andrew Sysock Sr. was a member of White Ash and his passion was hunting, fishing and picking blueberries. Mr. Sysock was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret  Sysock, eight brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his devoted children, Andrew Sysock Jr. and Nancy Pilot and her husband, John; his cherished granddaughter, Kristal, and great-grandson, Roman.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.   St.Vladimir’s is also having a halupki dinner on Sunday, May 20th, Noon to 4 p.m. at St. Vladimir’s Hall.  Eat in or take out.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire spent the weekend in Forty Fort with his sister, Lola and Mike Mattie.  They also visited with Michael, Georgia (Mattie), and Mcguire Martin.   Bob, aka, UVBOB, did the fluorescent mineral programs at the Mineralogical Society of Northeast Pennsylvania annual show held at St. Joseph’s Oblates Seminary in Pittston.  There were also dealers selling a variety of mineral/fossil related items and they also have a great educational program that kids took part in.  Was a nice weekend with many in attendance both days.

Bridge project in town is coming along.  They are working on the one side, so it is one lane right now.  Haven’t had so much excitement, other than the bear all over town.

There will be a park clean up on Saturday, May 12th, 11 a.m.  Volunteers are needed.  Meet at the Pavilion.  Many hands make light work.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th.  Spend some time with that special Mom and have a great day.

Election Day is Tuesday, May 15th.  Don’t forget to get out and vote.  Having said that, the next Civic meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to Xander Kapler and Kessler Gilbert, 12th; Cory McDonald, 15th; Marian Hubiak, 19th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Tim and Bobbi Jo Brown as they celebrate on the 21st.  Have a nice day.

HINT:  “Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season to help repel those pesky bugs.   Put a Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.  Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew to prevent thread from tangling.”

Joe Fanning, Landenberg, and a couple of his friends, spent the weekend at his home on Church Street and went to play horseshoes in Benton on Saturday.

Guess that’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week; supposed to get really nice and I’m sure we all would like that.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail e at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on May 2, 2018 by Bob McGuireMay 2, 2018

Well, here we are, back with some more wintry weather over the weekend.  Had it all again….the rain spritzes, flurries, frost, cold temperatures,  clouds, and we can’t forget that never ending blowing wind; had some sun but nothing to write home about.   Can’t believe during the week it is to get up in the 60’s.  We will see if that happens.

I’ve been remiss not putting the pierogies for sale in my news.  So, here it is:  St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.  I’ve had a few calls and directed them to the right person.

Hope there were some lucky turkey hunters on Saturday.  Haven’t really heard from anyone if they got their bird or not.

I don’t know of a whole lot going on right now.  I know there are probably things coming up, so keep an eye on the Sully to find out.

Our little town of Lopez has had some excitement and lots going on for a few weeks now.  They are replacing the bridge by the Post Office, so there are workers, cranes and other big equipment to do this project.  Don’t know how long the job will take, but once it’s done, will be nice again.

Congratulations to John McDonald, Jr. on being honored with an Outstanding Alumni Award from the Pennsylvania State University Forest Resources Alumni Group.  John is the son JoAnn McDonald and the late John McDonald.  Very interesting article in the paper last week, with it being continued in the May 2nd issue.  He is originally from Lopez and now lives in MA with his wife and daughter.  Very educated and professional young man.

Third period Honor Roll:  Distinguished Honors – Kyler Burke and Aaron Kinsey.  Honor – Paige Burke.  Congratulations.  If I’ve missed someone, please let me know.

HINT:  “To keep wasps away this summer, mix 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar, 1 TBSP sugar and a few drops of Dawn dish soap (regular) in 1 liter of water.  Put some in a dish or aluminum pan in areas where they are and around the house to see where they are breeding.”

Happy Birthday wishes to Paige and Kyler Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th; Ted Lowden and Ryan Dempsey, 7th; Diane Fanning, 9th; and Elizabeth Spinosa, 10th.  Have a good day.

Mark your calendar.  There will be a work bee to clean up the parks for summer mowing.  Meet at the Pavilion on Saturday, May 12th, at 11 a.m.  Any volunteers will be greatly appreciated.  Bring a rake, wear gloves and come with ambition.

Don’t forget the Primary Election will soon be coming up.  If you want your person to get into office, go to vote on May 15th.  It’s your right and your privilege.

Due to Election Day being on Tuesday, the 15th, the Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

The BIG guy has been making his appearance quite frequently here in town.  Just seems to want to tip over burning barrels, even if they are empty.

I think that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week; it’s supposed to get “quite” warm.  I’ll take it for sure.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Work moves forward on replacing the bridge on Main Street.  The north side is being replaced first

allowing in and out traffic in the south side lane.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 25, 2018 by Bob McGuireApril 25, 2018

Getting tired of giving these weather reports that aren’t so good.  Maybe, we’re going to have some nicer weather this week, according to the weathermen.  That sure would be nice.  We did have frost quite a bit early in the morning, but warmed up nicely during the day.   The wind could stop blowing as far as I’m concerned.  Folks are getting antsy to get out and dig in the dirt and get their gardens and flower beds ready.   Last I heard no rain during the week.

Don’t forget the Red Cross blood drive on May 2nd, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Darway.  Contact Jamie Killian at 570-924-0199.

Our little town of Lopez has a big project going on.  The bridge by the Post Office is being replaced, so lots of noise and activity getting this done.

Never have seen a kestrel here, but we had one last week.  Sat on the top of our pole for quite some time, just looking and preening.  Nice looking bird.  Finally flew off and haven’t seen it since.    We also have a phoebe nesting again this year.

There will be a park clean-up on Saturday, May 12th,  at 11 a.m.  Anyone who wishes to help, please come to the Pavilion on that day.   The more help, the sooner it will be done.

It’s early, but you can mark your calendar now.  There will be the Civic Association annual flea market, at the Pavilion, on Saturday, June 16th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  There will be a $5.00 set up fee.  Something to think about and see what you might want to get rid of at that time.  Any questions, call me at the number below.

Birthday wishes to Mickey Mowery, 26th; David Spinosa, 28th; and Ken Kline and Abby Matychak, 30th.  Have a nice day.  If you of a birthday I should include in my news, please let me know; I’ll add it to my list.

HINT:   Here are some uses for WD-40:  “Gives a children’s play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.  Lubricates gear shift on lawn mowers. Rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.  Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.  Spraying an umbrella stem to make it easier to open.”

Now with the nice weather coming, I hope, keep an eye on the Sully for things going on around the County that you might be interested in.   Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week, “should” be quite nice, so get out and about.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for reading.

Work has started on the new bridge on Main Street here in Lopez.  They will be replacing one half at a time so traffic can continue.

Well, we had a couple days of nice weather.  Friday and Saturday were really nice.  I guess for Sunday, Mother Nature thought we had enough nice, so was cold and windy.  I did see the robins again; hopefully they will stay.

We had Mr. Bear on Tuesday night sometime.  Must have been a BIG one as he had to stretch about 8 feet in the air to get the bird feeder.  Got our suet feeders a couple days earlier.  I’ve seen quite a few photos on Face Book, so guess he’s been around.

Don’t forget, mark your calendar.  The Red Cross will be at Darway Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for a blood drive on May 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Community is welcome.  Please contact Jamie Killian, Activity Director to sign up.  570-924-0119 or Jamie.killian@darway.org.

Happy Birthday wishes to Rosanne Lukachik and Tom Beck (our Rockhound buddy), 18th; Holly Ann Sperry, 20th; Jon-Paul Matychak, 23rd; Katherine Kapler, 25th.  Have a nice day.

Would be nice to get some good weather so folks can get in some outdoor activities, gardening, planting flower beds.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; might need the umbrella, but it’s still nice to get out and about in the fresh air.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, the crazy weather is still with us.  The weekend was up and down and still pretty cold and windy, even with the sun out there.  On Monday we had five inches of snow that didn’t last too long.  I had said Joe and Diane Fanning would not need to shovel; I was so wrong.  The days would start out really cool, but warm up, but still have that bitter wind.  Sunday was only 16 degrees.  Sure hope Mother Nature is back on her meds soon and gives us some really nice weather.  There is gardening and yard work to be done, so please send some good weather our way.  Camping folks are ready and waiting.

For those who celebrated Orthodox Easter, I hope you had a Blessed weekend with family and friends.

Got the following e-mail to share: The Red Cross will be at Darway Healthcare Center for a blood drive on May 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Community is welcome.  Please contact Jamie Killian, Activity Director to sign up; 570-924-0119 or jamie.killian@darway.org.   Mark your calendar so you don’t forget.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, April 17, 6 p.m., weather permitting, at the Pavilion.  If it’s too chilly, it will be at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to John Risser, 12th; Joyce Walsh, 13th; Kristin Iwancio, 15th; and Pat Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, both on the 17th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Sheldon and Penny Sperry, 13th; and Michael and Georgia Martin, 15th.  Have a good day.

HINT:  “Spread Bounty sheets around foundation areas, in trailers or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering.”

Lopez, PA Posted on April 22, 2018 by Bob McGuireApril 22, 2018

Hope you all had a very nice Easter weekend.  Weather wasn’t the greatest, but could have been worse.  Early Saturday morning it was only 24 degrees and a good frost, but did warm up.  Sunday, early, we had a downpour and then it was cold and windy; warmed up just a little.  As I sit here typing on Sunday evening, I’m told we’re getting snow tonight into Monday, with slick road conditions.  School delays???   It’s April, no snow, but I guess Mother Nature just has it in for us.  Showers and flurries also during the week.  Guess it didn’t do any good to talk to her; she just didn’t listen.

Mike, Heather, Kaeleigh ad Kyleigh McDonald had Saturday lunch and Easter egg hunt at the home of Cory McDonald, Dushore.  All had a good time and all 150 that were hidden were found.

Looks like the Easter bunny was good to everyone again this year.   Went by Dushore Legion on Saturday and there were cars, cars, cars, so I’m sure the Easter egg hunt was successful there.

Bob and I, along with Bob, Jr. and Tyler, Hunlock Creek, enjoyed Easter Sunday with Brian McGuire.  Good food, good time playing games, visiting and lots of laughs.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days over the Easter holiday at their home on Church Street.  I imagine they started Spring cleaning.  At least they didn’t have to shovel snow.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, April 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting.  Otherwise, at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to V Rev Andrew Matychak, April 5th; Shawn Pequignot, 6th; and Jaron Williams, 11th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary from B’s gang to Bill and Roda Stasiak, who celebrate on the 6th.  Have a fantastic day.

Happy Anniversary also to Julio and Mary (Maximiek) as they celebrate on the 5th.  Have a nice day.

HINT:  “Here are some uses for WD40:  removed road tar and grime from cars; gives floors that “just waxes” sheen without making it slippery;  keeps flies off cows; restores and cleans chalkboards; removes lipstick stains; loosens stubborn zippers; untangles jewelry chains; removes stains from stainless steel sinks; removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill; keeps glass shower doors free of water spots; keeps scissors working smoothly; lubricates noisy hinges on vehicles and doors in the home.  (Didn’t know all this, but will certainly try a couple of them.)

Now, with the warmer weather on the way (I hope) we’ll see folks out checking out the gardens and flower beds and doing yard work.  The robins have finally come back.   And, there will be lots of activities around Sullivan County for you to check out.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, rain, snow, nice, whatever; it’s great to be alive.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Ill be here next time and thanks for reading.  Let’s hope no snow in the forecast.

Was a cold weekend with snow flurries on Sunday and the wind just doesn’t seem to stop blowing.  Temperature would go up quite nicely is the wind died down.  I think Mother Nature is on vacation and doesn’t realize she’s to give us nice weather now.  Sure hope Spring is coming soon or we’ll be back to cold weather already.   Hopefully, by Easter it will be nice and stay nice after that.  I heard that it’s to be in the high 50’s during the week, but we’ll see.

Grandparents Brandan and Robyne McCobin would like to announce that Gianna Mae DiRocco has a new sister, Emilia Ann, born February 13th at 7:03 a.m.

The 49th annual Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral Show was held over the weekend at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company.  It was very well attended and was a great success.  Thanks to all who came; even saw some Sullivan County folks there.  Look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Easter Sunday and April Fool’s Day is the same day this year, but don’t do any pranks, it’s not fun.  Hope the Easter bunny is good to you and brings you some goodies in the basket.

HINT:  “Want to avoid a terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free.  Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding the headache.”  (This sounds bogus, but I just might try it next time I have a headache.)

B’s gang says “Happy Birthday” to Tim Higley who celebrates his big day…..guess when…….April Fool’s  Day.  Have a super day, Tim.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, especially if we do get some warmer weather.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 27, 2018 by Bob McGuireMarch 27, 2018

Another week of up and down weather.  Snow, wind, nice, snow, sun, etc.,etc.  Saturday was quite windy even with the sun, but it didn’t deter the kids at the egg hunt at the American Legion in Mildred.  All had a good time.  Sunday was another cold, windy day, but at least no snow.   Tuesday was to be FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!    Did we get it or did we get snow and cold.  I’ll let you know next week. Last I heard, the weather is to be pretty nice and not get that coastal storm first predicted.   Maybe Mother Nature is finally on her meds and will bring us some nice weather for a change and it’ll stay with us.

Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald spent Saturday with Jeffrey, Kristin and Hailey Mensch and enjoyed the egg hunt at the Forksville Fair Grounds.  Hailey won in her age group.   All had a good time.

Happy Birthday to Aaron Kinsey, 21st; Irene (Kravitz) Risser, 28th; and Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

The 49th annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Show is this weekend, Saturday, the 24th and Sunday, the 25th, held at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Hall.  Hours are 9-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.  Many things of interest for everyone.  There are educational exhibits.  There is a mini-mine and a scavenger hunt  for the kids; geode cutting; cabochon making; dealers with all kinds of items for sale.  UVBOB will be doing his fluorescent mineral programs both days.  Hope we see you there.  Food available by the Wysox Fire Co. members.

HINT:  Here are some uses for Bounce, other than in the dryer.  “Use them when playing soccer and baseball.  Use them when working outside; keeps the bugs away.  Bounce will also chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them and it repels mice.”

I don’t know if there are things going on, so check the Sully to find out that information.  Might be something you’d be interested in going to or taking part in.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week; if they’re right, you should be able to get out in the sunshine and warmth.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.   Keep the hints coming.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 16, 2018 by Bob McGuireMarch 16, 2018

I think we need to have a talk with Mother Nature.  She put down five inches of snow on Wednesday.  I know that’s not a lot, but too much for me already.  Some places really got hit and some are still without power.  Hopefully, all will get better soon.   Last I heard it’s to be cold and snow showers almost all week, with a warm-up, “maybe” on the weekend.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days recently at their home here.   Weather didn’t cooperate.  High winds took down a couple of trees, one almost hitting the house.  Now the work starts with cutting them up.  There will be firewood for a while.  Poor robins are still looking for a way to get under the snow for bugs and worms.

Ted and Mary Lowden spent the weekend in Marlton, NJ, with TJ and Alison Lowden and Wesson.  They attended a baby shower for TJ and Alison.   From the pictures I saw, looks like everyone had a good time.

Civic meeting, Tuesday, March 20th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

HINT:  “Fill in nail holes or other imperfections in the wall with a stiff paste made of equal parts salt, starch and enough water to moisten.”

Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Weisbrod, 15th; Gianna Mae DiRocco, 16th; Don Risser and Sheilyn Dendler, 17th; Joe Tabor, 18th and Aaron Kinsey, 21st.  Have a good day.

“B”‘s gang sends birthday wishes to Steph Putnam, 17th; Kristin Putnam, 18th; and Lori Higley, 19th.  Have a super-duper day.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Tina Tabor, 15th.  Have a good day.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; get out in the sunshine and fresh air.  We’ll see what kind of weather Mother Nature has in store.   I’m sure there will be things going on in the County, so keep an eye on the Sully to see what, where and when.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you.

Weather is up and down again.  I don’t think Mother Nature likes us with the last storm she put down and that forever blowing wind.  We were lucky; didn’t lost power and didn’t get a whole lot of snow.  There are places that got a lot more than we did and are still without power, probably until Wednesday.  We’ve seen robins and with the snow, the poor things won’t know what to do.  Have seen a few flocks of geese also going North.

FLASH — Don’t forget, Saturday evening, the 10th, to turn your clocks AHEAD one hour.

Congratulations to Anthony and Bethany Sneidar on the birth of their son, Christopher Michael.  He was born on the 27th of February.   They live in Hillsboro, OR.  He joins a brother, Dominic, at home.  Grandparents are Tony and Patti Sneidar and Mark and Lisa Fenster, all from Philadelphia.

Happy Belated Birthday to Dolores Mattichak who celebrated on the 27th of February.  Gordon and his wife were visiting for some time recently.  They live in North Carolina.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire spent the weekend with Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, along with Gizmo, Hunlock Creek.  Had a really nice time.

Happy Birthday to Janelle Day and Lyle Weidner, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, 10th; Monte Gulich and Julien Bonner, 11th; Bob McGuire and Theresa Pochatko, 13th.  Hope you have a good day.

HINT:  “Peppers with three bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.  Peppers with four bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.”    (Never knew that.  A whole new way to look at peppers.)

Keep an eye on the Sully.  There still may be things going on you might be interested in.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Last I heard there is another storm coming on Wednesday.  Hope it’s wrong, but we’ll see what Mother Nature has in store this time.  Hopefully not much or nothing would suit me.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.   Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Whoop-de-do — Tuesday and Wednesday were both beautiful days and nice for drying laundry on the line.  It was 63 degrees on Tuesday and 72 degrees on Wednesday.  Why didn’t it last.  After that, it went downhill.  It’s not really bad, but could be much warmer.  It’s to warm up during the week and then the weekend is to be not so good again.  I’m really waiting for the warmer weather to finally get here.

My neighbor did mention that she saw a flock of geese going NORTH one day.  Sure hope that’s a good sign.  No sign of robins here yet.

I’m hoping that this round of flu stuff is over with.  Hope you all are feeling well, and those that are still bothered with the winter blah’s, hope you feel better soon.  There is so much sickness going around, we really need some better weather to make everyone feel good.   Think we can talk to Mother Nature about that??

Not much to report this week.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray on Sunday.

Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald spent Friday and Saturday with Kristin, Jeffrey and Hailey Mensch.  They got to see how sap was being made.  They also visited Cory McDonald at his home.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, March 20th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.   Sure hope we don’t get blitzed with a winter storm.

Happy Birthday wishes to Keene Vinetelli, March 5th; and Bethany Dendler, 6th.   Have a nice day.

HINT:  “Stop cut apples from browning in your child’s lunch box by securing with a rubber band.”

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, should be nice half the time.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Sully for up-coming events you may be interested in.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 27, 2018 by Bob McGuireFebruary 27, 2018

The weather seems to be like a yo-yo. It was up and down all week, with warm, sunny days and then snow, ice and wind.  The week is to be pretty nice, the last I heard.  That suits me fine.  Anyone around here see any robins yet??  I haven’t, but hoping Spring is closer to that corner.

There were some events taking place over the weekend that I hope many of you enjoyed.  There was Winter Fest, with the Polar Bear Plunge and lots of other things going on there; Winter Wine and Chocolate Walk; and the Wild Game dinner, for those of you who like that.  From pictures posted on Face Book, it seems like all were a success.

Congratulations to Kyler and Paige Burke; Aaron Kinsey; and Jacob Williams for making Distinguished Honor Roll for the second marking period.

Happy Birthday wishes to Armond Spinosa, 22nd; Jacob Williams, 23rd; Bob McGuire, Jr., 26th; and John Borick, 29th, even though there is no 29 this year.  Hope you all have a great day.

The other day I saw one lonesome snowman that was getting pretty well melted. I guess Gaige built that at Burke’s when we had the heavy, wet snow.  Just too warm to keep him around.

HINT:  “Instead of buying special shampoo, wash your hair in apple juice to rid your scalp of pesky dandruff.”  (Doesn’t seem like there would be any suds; have to try that.  Not all the hints that I print work, but I don’t know until someone tells me.  I did try a couple hints that did not work.)

Have you been watching the Olympics???   We’ve enjoyed a lot of it, especially the ice skating.  Adam Rippon, from Clarks Summit, is doing quite well, along with many others.  Some of those that fly high in the air and twist and turn are really fascinating and you wonder how they do it.

Hardly seems possible that the month of February is almost over.  Just hope March will bring nice weather and get us ready for warmth and sunshine.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week; should be super, if those weathermen are right.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 21, 2018 by Bob McGuireFebruary 21, 2018

What a week with up and down weather.  We had 9 inches of heavy, wet snow on Wednesday with schools closed.  We had a low of 2 degrees on Friday.  Sunday we had 48 degrees, foggy, cloudy, less wind, sprinkles and some mud and ice.   Last I heard, it’s to be nice for the weekend again.  Doesn’t look like any significant storms on the horizon, which is fine with me.

Coming up on Saturday is WinterFest at Camp Brule, snow or no snow.   On Sunday the sleigh rally will be held, if there is enough snow for that.  So, I guess many are hoping for snow to take part in these activities.   Watch the Sully for more information this week.

I’m getting over a bad cold so haven’t been out much to see who is here or what’s going on.  Finally starting to feel much better and if I could rid of the stupid cough, that would be great.   Hope you aren’t bothered with the flu; I hear it’s very bad this year and isn’t it nice to hear you could have it twice.  I think every year the strain is worse and they keep saying the shot doesn’t work well, but get it anyway.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home on Church Street to get that last storm’s snow shoveled and plowed.  So, it was a work time, rather than a relaxing time to be here.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Haley Latch and Shawn Laird, 15th; Alison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th; Khloie Bahr, 19th; and Clair Johnson, 20th.  Have  a nice day.

Sympathy from the community to Tim Brown and family on the recent passing of his father.  Prayers to all at this time of sadness.

HINT:  ” There are many remedies for removing gum from hair.  This lesser know one, to use whipped cream, is better than peanut butter, so try it next time you’re in need.   “Use olive oil to un-stick a zipper.  It will help the zipper slide more easily, fixing the problem.”

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, MARCH 20, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.   There is no meeting in FEBRUARY.

So, that’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Remember….SPRING is just around the corner.  Can’t wait.  Maybe see some robins soon and that will be a good sign.  I know some have seen them already.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 8, 2018 by Bob McGuireFebruary 8, 2018

Well, as I sit here Sunday evening typing my news, all I can say is SNOW, SNOW, SNOW.   We must have 5+ inches already and it’s still coming down.  Schools are delaying or closing already.  Plows were out this afternoon, but it’s all covered, so guess they’ll be back out again soon to take care of that white stuff. Last I heard, there is another storm coming on Wednesday with an additional 5-8 inches of snow.  Maybe this will be our last.  We can hope, can’t we!!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl and your team won, whoever it was.  I’m not into football, so don’t watch the games.  Hopefully, everyone got to where they were going for any party and back home safely.

Don’t know much going on.  I know there will be winter activities going on during February, so keep an eye on the Sully for that information.

I haven’t been out too much.  Got a stinkin’ cold so have been kinda staying inside and trying to get it gone already.   Hope you all aren’t being bothered with that terrible flu bug going around.  Every year they say it’s the worst one yet.  Hope everyone who does get bothered with cold or flu gets much better soon.

Let’s see.  Some birthday wishes to send out.  Happy Birthday to Alex Aharonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; Tommy Van Dyke and Krystal Vermiere, 14th; Haley Latch and Shawn Laird, 15th.  Hope you all have a good day.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all.  Hope everyone has an enjoyable day with loved ones.

I had a nice phone chat with Alice Fedorchak the other day at the Loyalsock Rehabilitation Center where she is a resident.  She’s doing well and wanted to know what was going on in Lopez.  Said to tell all her friends that she says Hello and she misses her home here.

HINT:  “Heat left over pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove.  Set heat to medium-low and heat until warm. This keeps the crust crispy. not soggy.”

The Civic Association still has some hoodies available for this cold weather.  If interested, call “B” at 570-954-6319 for colors, sizes and prices.

Well, time to go get a cup of hot water with honey an apple cider vinegar.  Helps the throat.   So, guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; probably have to get out and shovel and plow.  Just don’t over-do.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

We got a little bit of snow over the past few days and the animals are having a tough time getting around.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 2, 2018 by Bob McGuireFebruary 2, 2018

Guess we’ve been having some “balmy” weather for this time of year.  Early morning low temperatures, but the day warms up nicely.  We’ve had middle to high forties almost all week.  But………you know that Ground Hog day is coming February 2nd……………so we’ll most definitely have six more weeks of winter.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and son, Tyler, Hunlock Creek, visited with Bob and JoAnn McGuire on Sunday.  Brian also stopped by to wish Tyler an early Happy Birthday.  He will 17 years old on Ground Hog Day.   Nice time visiting and playing games.

Get well to Mary Lowden who had the misfortune to hurt her foot when she dropped a “heavy small” item on it.  Hope she’s doing better and will be getting around more soon.  I guess Ted is a pretty good nurse and taking good care of her.

Happy Birthday wishes to Owen Evans and Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot-Laird, 28; and Lisa and Jason Burke, 30th.  Some February birthdays coming up include Krya Vinetelli and Brian Dendler; 1st; Dee Whatley, 4th; and Helen Amon, 5th.  Have a nice day.

HINT:  “Rock salt sprinkled on sidewalks and driveways keeps snow from sticking to the pavement and allows it to be removed easily.”  “Aching feet can be relieved by soaking feet in warm salt water.”

Keep an eye on the Sully for up-coming winter activities you may be interested in.  If you like the cold, snowy weather, Winterfest is coming up in February with the Polar Bear plunge into the icy water.  There are also many other activities planned.

Guess that’s about all the news for now.  Enjoy your week; should be a little pleasant from what I’ve heard.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 29, 2018 by Bob McGuireFebruary 2, 2018

Weather started out pretty cold.  Was minus four on Monday.  Then a couple days of 8 degrees and 3 degrees and then went up nicely.  Sunday afternoon it was 46 degrees.  Supposed to warm up during the week also.  Noreen Clark says February is to have above normal temperatures.  Sure hope she’s right.  Maybe we’ll see some geese coming back soon.   I think there are to be a couple days of cold, then warm again.  The kids enjoyed tubing on the hill again on Saturday.  Their Dad even took a turn riding down the hill.

There will be winter activities going on in the County.  Some may be cancelled, due to not enough snow.  Check the Sully for all that information.

Nothing much to report.  Now, with the nicer weather, maybe I’ll see more folks out and about.

Happy Birthday wishes Mike Stavisky down there in sunny Florida, on the 24th.  Have a great day.

Happy Anniversary to Al and Jeannie Kapler as they celebrate on the 23rd.  Have a good day.

HINT:  “If you have a photo stuck on a page that you can’t get free, try using a blow dryer on the back of the page.  It will loosen the photo from the page and the adhesive holding it there.”

From Mr. Neubauer’s little blue book:  January 15, 1978 – clear and cold and zero.  That’s cold.  Same date, 2018, for us – some sun, 16 degrees to start the day.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; should be half decent.  Have news, give me a call at 57-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll do my best to get it in.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Can’t say much about the weather this week again, except that it’s been a roller coaster.  It’s been hot, cold, warm, and we had so much rain; then it froze and made a mess; the creeks backed up with ice and that was worse yet.  I think Mother Nature needs to give us a break.  Supposed to be cold most of the week.  I’d sure like to see Spring soon.

Mrs. Irene Huray has returned home after spending the Holidays with her daughter, Irene Pequignot and family.

No January Civic meeting.

The Civic Association has a few hoodies and some koozies available for sale.  Get yours before they’re gone; the hoodie will be nice and warm in this frigid weather.  If interested, call “B” at 570-954-6319.

HINT:  “If you have problems with kidney stones and cannot or don’t want to take the medicine prescribed, you can do the following and it works very well.  Take a whole lemon and cut it up; put it in a blender and puree.  Drink about one tablespoon each day.  If you have to, add some raw honey to make it easier to go down.  It’s a natural acid that won’t interfere with most other medications and this will prevent kidney stones from forming.”  (Got this from Pat, who says it came from an herbalist.)

Happy Birthday wishes to Adel Bradshaw, 20th; Alice Fedorchak and Jim Rouse, 21st; and Irene Pequignot, 22nd.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Alex and Ginny Stavisky as they celebrated down there in “warm” Florida on the 22nd.  Have a nice day.

I know there are winter activities going on in the County.  Winter Fest is coming up and with the cold, cold weather, maybe the Eagles Mere toboggan slide will be built.  Keep and eye on the Sully for what, where and when, if you’re interested in any activities.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little blue book:  January 14, 1982: Cloudy and five inches of snow; 22 degrees.  January 14, 2018 – cold, windy, sunny, minus three degrees and snow and icy spots around.  Need some better weather.

We switched to gmail and for an “old” lady like me, it’s really taking time to get used to all the new things that one has to do.  But…..I’m getting there.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; just bundle up really good; get out and get some fresh air and exercise.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at www.news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Keep the hints coming and thanks for reading.  I’ll be here next time.

The only thing I can say about this weather is, “it’s FREAKIN’ cold!!!”

Had 16 degrees below last Monday; during the week it was below every morning; today (Sun.) it was 16 degrees below again.  I don’t think it hit 20 degrees all last week.  Good news…..it is to warm up during the week, so that’s good to hear.

Thoughts and prayers to the Kilgus and Schiele families on the loss of all their possessions in the recent fire.  You can call Blasi’s Beginnings in Dushore at 570-932-0092 for information on what is needed.  Anything you can do to help them get back on their feet will be greatly appreciated.  Just read the Fire Co. report on FB.  AWESOME……$4100 collected in two days for the families.  Great response from everyone.  THANK YOU!!!

Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Jim Kauffman who passed away on Christmas Day.  A memorial service will be held on January 25th in Hamburg, PA.

Happy Birthday wishes to Crystal Pequignot, 12th.  Hope you have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver, 12th; and Ted and Mary Lowden, 17th.  Enjoy your day.

B’s gang sends Birthday wishes to Tyler Higley as he celebrates on the 13th.  Have a super day, “Slick”.

HINT:  “After you have finished your automotive repair project, soak your dirty tools in Dawn before you put them away to remove all the oil and grime.  Dawn also helps prevent rust from forming on the tools.”

It’s been so cold all week that I haven’t seen many folks out and about, unless necessary.  Can’t wait for the warmer weather.

There are winter activities coming up in the County, so keep an eye on the Sully to see what, where and when.

I guess Mr. Bruin has been back recently.  Now, with it getting colder, maybe he will finally hibernate.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  January 7, 1974  —  Cloudy and cold and 20 degrees.  Ours was a little bit colder , but we did have some afternoon sun with warmer temps.

Guess that’s about all for now from the Ice Box.  Enjoy your week; it will be much nicer to get out.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 3, 2018 by Bob McGuireJanuary 10, 2018

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Year Holiday.  Weather sure was brutal.  Had snow Christmas Eve into Christmas morning.  Had some more on Saturday, but not a lot.  We had single digit temperatures almost all week and with the wind chill, it was much colder.  The high didn’t reach freezing.  Seems no end in sight for this cold weather.  Guess we have to hunker down and stay inside where it’s warmer.   Hope you all have a fantastic 2018.

Joe and Diane Fanning, Landenberg, along with Molly, spent a few days over the Holiday at their home on Church Street.

Spending Christmas Eve with the Mike and Lola Mattie in Forty Fort included Bob, JoAnn, Brian McGuire, Nina Weslowski; Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek; Casey Martin and friend, Tom, Montoursville; Michael, Georgia and Mcguire Martin, Swoyersville.

On Christmas Day, Bob, JoAnn, Bob, Jr.and Tyler McGuire enjoyed family time with Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski.  Marty Slocum, New Albany; and Bill and Rhonda Stasiak also stopped by.  Good time for all just visiting, eating and playing a new game Tyler got for Christmas.

Remember, NO civic meeting for the month of January.

Even the bitter cold didn’t stop Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald from going tubing on the hill on Sunday afternoon.   Looks like they had fun even if they didn’t stay out too long.

I hear muzzle loader for deer is in now.  Good luck hunters.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jim Craig, 1st; Georgette Matychak, 3rd; Jeannie Kapler, Edith Tamburro and Alex Stavisky, 4th; “Viking”, 5th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th; and Craig Germany and John McDonald, Jr., 9th.  Hope you all have a good day.

Kids are back in school by this time after their Christmas vacation.  Probably anxious for the next vacation.

HINT:  “To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in the microwave with a cup of water.  The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.”

Not much news for right now.  Gotta get out and see who is about and what is going on.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  December 31, 1978 – light rain, cold and 26 degrees. (26 degrees, doesn’t seem like it would rain.)  December 31, 2017 – bitter cold, very windy, and single digit temperatures all day.   As I’m typing my news at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, it is already MINUS five degrees.   Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Well, as I close out 2017, enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Bundle up if going out.  Stay well; stay warm.  Have news call  me at 570-928-9238, mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 23, 2017 by Bob McGuireDecember 23, 2017

Well, we had all kinds of weather this week.  We had some very cold temperatures; we had four inches of snow; we had sun and warmth.  Had enough snow for the kids to go sledding on the hill.  I saw a flock of geese go over early in the week and another flock on Sunday afternoon.  Guess they liked the warmer weather so stayed around longer.  Last I heard, there is to be another warm-up during the week, which is fine with me.  Just never know what the weather is going to do next.

Got the following e-mail to share:  Don and Irene (Kravitz) Risser spent a few days in town over the weekend.  Visiting with them were their younger son, Aaron, and their granddaughter, Leah Elizabeth.  Mary Kravetz joined them on Sunday to celebrate Aaron’s birthday.  Other activities included cutting down Christmas trees, stopping by Cold Spring, having breakfast at the Jolly Trolley, and going to the Dushore Public Library.  They also visited Annabelle Kravetz in Mildred one afternoon.  A good time was had by all.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in Allentown visiting her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski; her brother, Paul; and friend, Chris Jordan.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and friends of Heather (Abrams) McDonald on the recent passing of her father, George Duane Abrams, Sr.

Hoodies are still available, but going fast.  S,M,L,XL,XXL in green or black, with the Lopez Ice Box of PA logo on the front, $25 each.  Call the number below or 570-954-6319 if interested.  Makes a nice gift and are toasty warm for this wintry weather.

Get well to Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald who are a little under the weather right now.  Hope feel better soon, my little buddies.

Happy Birthday wishes to Kaeleigh McDonald (10) and Lillie Ann Bahr (1), both on the 23rd; and Ginny Stavisky, 31st.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Anthony and Bethany Sneidar as they celebrate 2 years on the 23rd; Ted and Evelyn Hubiak, 29th.  Congratulations and many more.

HINT:  “Good for sore throat:  Mix into a cup of hot water — 2 TBSP honey, 2 TBSP vinegar, dash of cinnamon, 2 TBSP lemon juice and mix well.  Drink this; they say it works every time.”  Good for this time of year.

I did hear from my sister that the Vicks on the feet does work.  She had a terrible cold and cough and tried it; said it helped.  Her daughter also puts it on her son’s toes and he likes it; says it helps.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  December 17, 1973 — 10 inches of heavy snow, cold and 10 degrees.  I’ll take our weather for the 17th, 2017 — cloudy, not so windy, no snow and 32 degrees.

Since this is the last issue of the Sully for 2017, I’d like to wish my family and my many friends a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year.  Also, to the Sullivan Review staff.  So, I guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy the Holidays and I’ll be here next year.  Thanks for reading and sending the hints.  Keep them coming.  If you have news, you can still call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll keep it until the New Year.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 18, 2017 by Bob McGuireDecember 18, 2017

Weather had been kind of nice and the sun felt pretty good.  But, we’ve had some pretty cold, frosty mornings too.  Even had some snow flurries that didn’t hang around too long.   Don’t know what the week will bring, but last I heard, Wednesday is to be the only nice day.  All others are to have snow flurries and snow showers.  We’ll see.

Retro hoodies are back in stock.  This is a hooded sweatshirt with the deer, with earmuffs, and the Ice Box of PA logo on the front.  They are great for the cold weather, whether out hunting, shoveling snow or just out with the kids.  They also make a nice gift for that someone special.  They don’t last long, so get yours now.  They come in black or green and S, M, L, XL, XXL; $25.00 each.   Call me at the number below if interested.

I guess hunting season is over for right now.  Don’t know how the locals did, but a few I talked to, didn’t have any luck this time.

Thanks to Gloria Weisbrod and her “crew” who all did a fabulous job organizing the Christmas party this year.  Thanks to everyone who donated cookies, sandwiches and snacks and helped in any way to make the party so much fun.  The Pochatko girls were in charge of entertainment and had quite a few unique and interesting games that kept the kids busy while waiting for Santa.  They also led in singing of Christmas carols.  Santa arrived and greeted the kids and gave each one their gift.  Was such a nice time for all.  I think Barb would be proud; it was done in her memory.  Thanks to St. Vladimir’s Church for the use of the Hall.Remember — no Civic meeting in the month of December.

Happy Kids and Santa

Got the following e-mail to share from Mary Lowden.  “A big thank you to TJ Lowden, Berlin, NJ; Jeff Corbett and Matt Porto, both of Marlton, NJ, for the help they gave in moving us into our new house.  This was Matt’s first time to Lopez and he LOVED it!  He was even able to shoot a gun for the first time.  I think he was in heaven.  Thought we were going to have to have his wife send his things; didn’t think he was going to leave, he was enjoying it that much and is looking forward to coming back again.”

Happy Birthday wishes to Carter Vermiere, 17th; V Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, 19th; Alyssa Pequignot, 20th.  Hope you all have a super day.

HINT:  “To remove scratches from glass, apply toothpaste to the scratch, then rub with a cloth until the scratch is gone.  Make sure the glass is clean beforehand.”

Bob and I attended the Che-Hanna mineral club Christmas Party on Sunday, held at the Best Western in Sayre.  Forty club members gathered there for a delicious meal and socializing.  Even played a few games.   Weather was in our favor, other than a few flurries, so everyone got home safely.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  December 10, 1973 – mild and 30 degrees.   Same day, 2017, our weather was about the same, except we had some cold wind.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week; still time to get that tree and get it decorated; still time to decorate your home or do other outside things.   Enjoy while you can because I think Mother Nature is finally going to have something to give us.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

That is a MINUS 3 degrees.   Keep in mind that I live in the warmer part of Lopez…..
