Hope you all had a good weekend. Seems like the coyote hunt held over the weekend was quite a success. We had all kinds of weather during the week. Some fog; some plowable snow; some sunny days with the temperatures in the high 40’s and 50 degrees; a couple days with rain all day long. Had a couple days of nice sunshine and then had early morning frost. We had it all. But…….I hear Spring is just around the corner, we just have to find which corner. Sure hope we find it soon. The deer and turkey are having a hard time getting through the fields, so you see a lot of tracks in the snow where they are walking right in the road. Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here and did a lot of snow removal. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of each month. Call 570-928-8909 to order and they can be picked up at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m. Hardly seems possible that it’s March already. Sure hope it doesn’t come in like a lion. Last I heard, it’s to be a pretty calm week with with no storms on the way, but that can change in an instant. Happy Birthday to Anthony Sneidar, March 1st; Keene Vinetelli; 5th; Bethany Dendler, 6th; Janelle Day, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, 10th. Hope you all have a sunny day. Guess that’s the news for now. Enjoy your day. May there be lots of sunshine for everyone to enjoy. Remember the Covid rules. Don’t have to remind you. I think they have been ingrained in our head for such a long time. Can only hope this pandemic is over with soon and we can all get back to a more “normal” life, if we can figure out what that is. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Take care; thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Well, another storm on the horizon so here I sit Sunday evening typing my news and wondering if we’ll get the 3-5 inches they’re calling for. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow (Monday). We had some really cold mornings and it didn’t warm up much during the day. We did have one day that hit 33 degrees; regular heat wave. This weather has gotta change soon. I put this item in a couple years ago, but with all the ice we’ve been having, I thought I’d do it again. For sidewalk de-icer, mix 1 teaspoon of Dawn Liquid, 1 Tablespoon rubbing alcohol and one half gallon of hot water. Pour over walkways and they won’t re-freeze. Distinguished Honor Roll – Serena Armioia; Kyler Burke; and Paige Burke. Honor Roll – Joey Malkemes. Congratulations to all of you. Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Eleanor Grandinetti who passed away on February 13th. She was 99 years young. She was a long time resident of Lopez and involved in many things. I remember her as crocheting many, many lap blankets for Veterans at nursing homes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month, from Noon to 1 p.m. They can be picked up at the Church Hall. Call 570-928-8909 to order. Can’t believe the month of February is about over. Where does the time go? Hope the warmer weather gets here as fast. Days are getting longer, so that’s nice. Not much to report. Everyone is staying kinda close to home. I did hear some snowmobiles on Sunday afternoon. Haven’t even seen many deer or turkeys now. Just the birds at the bird feeders. Happy Birthday to Jacob Williams, 23rd; Bob McGuire, Jr. and Christopher Sneidar, both on the 26th. Hope you all have a nice day. Don’t forget, wear your mask; do the six foot distancing; wash your hands; and support the local businesses when you can. Pray for this pandemic to finally be over with. Guess that wraps it up for this time. Enjoy your week. May need the shovel and may not. See what happens. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; see me, if you can find me around; mail me; or e-mail at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. If I leave any birthdays, anniversaries or anything out, please let me know and I’ll get it in. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Had a couple days of plowable snow, had some wind and had some sun and nice days. Can’t tell from one day to the next what it’s going to do. I know I’m ready for warm weather. How about you? The weather has to change for the better soon, I hope. Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home here on Church Street. Couldn’t believe how much snow there was. Took a while to get up the lane to the house but they made it and had lots of shoveling and snow blowing to do. Kind of a tiring weekend but they got the job done. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. They are available from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall. Call 570-928-8909 to order yours. Birthday wishes to Haley Latch, 15th; Allison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th. Have a nice day. Sunday, the 14th, is Valentine’s Day. Hope you have a great day with your loved ones. Not much news to report. Have been watching the woodpeckers at the suet feeder. Haven’t seen any deer for a while now. I did see Mike, Heather and Kaeleigh McDonald on the hill across the street, sledding. When they got a path, they were going down pretty good. Hope you all have been doing well. Still remember to wear your mask, practice the social distancing and wash your hands often. If you don’t feel well, stay home. I think with all the Super Bowl parties on Sunday, there’s going to be another rise in Covid cases. That’s about it. Enjoy your week. Probably some snow will be predicted. Have news, call, e-mail or see me, before 6 p.m. on Sunday. Phone 570-928-9238; just catch me around town; e-mail – news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’m sure to be here next time. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Had a couple days of plowable snow, had some wind and had some sun and nice days. Thanks for reading and I’m sure to be here next time. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM It’s been snowing all day Sunday in Lopez. Everything is white and looks pretty nice. No plow has gone through an no shoveling or snowblowing yet. Don’t know how much we’ll end up with but probably too much. At least it isn’t as cold as it has been. When it does stop, the plows, shovels and snowblowers will be kept busy. Valerie Iwancio-York and Charles York, Jefferson, PA, came to spend a two week Valentine’s get-away at St. Nicholas House while their 1800’s house is being up-dated. Hope they enjoy the snow while they are here. Tom, Kristin, Tai and Luke Iwancio, Harrisburg, spent the day with them on Saturday. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. You can pick them up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall. Call 570-928-8909 to place your order. Hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected with the Covid and the flu running around. I see our Sullivan County cases have gone up again. Please do your part and wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands frequently. Stay home if you’re not feeling well. Hopefully, we can get Covid and these other strains gone for good. Support your local businesses when you can as they struggle to do the best they can. Every little bit helps to keep them going. No Civic meeting for the month of February. May be one in March, weather permitting. If anyone has any fund raising ideas, let us know. Need to have money coming in to pay the bills. We still have t-shirts, hoodies, koozies and masks for sale, with the Lopez logo. Happy Birthday to Alex Aharonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; Tommy VanDyke and Krystal Vermeire, 14th, which is Valentine’s Day. Hope you all have a nice day. Don’t have much else to report, so guess that’s it for now. Enjoy your week; let’s see how much snow we do get. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in before you. Remember by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Hope you all enjoyed that COLD, BRISK weekend. The sun was out but with the wind, didn’t seem to help much and was brutal both Saturday and Sunday. Well, I don’t have much to report. I’m tired of putting in Covid every week even though it’s still with us for some time to come. We have a weather person now in Lopez. Samantha Burke, better known as “Sam” will be taking the weather and sending it to the Sully. I’m sure she’ll do a good job and she has three little helpers (her boys). Haven’t seen or heard from anyone about any news. Pretty much staying home unless we need to go out. I can tell you that St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon – 1 p.m. Call 570-928-8909 to order. They sure make a good meal or nice addition to your meal. Happy Birthday wishes to Kyra Vinetelli and Brian Dendler, February 1st; Tyler McGuire, 2nd; Dee Whatley, 4th and Helen Amon, 5th. Have a nice day. Tyler McGuire has returned to classes at RIT in Rochester, NY. Was nice he was home. Time seems to pass so quickly. Well, February 2nd is Ground Hog Day. Think Phil will see his shadow and give us six more weeks of winter? Only time will tell. That’s it. Enjoy your week. Have news, contact me, before 6 p.m., by phone at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. To the left of the round smoke stack, you can see the Sts. Peter and Paul steeple. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. The weather was up and down with rain, frost, snow and wind. A couple of days hit the higher 40 degree mark. There was a couple of days that there was enough snow to shovel and plow. Don’t know what the week will bring as it changes too often. Have to wait and see day by day. Not much to report. Seems folks are staying pretty much to themselves with this virus going on. Cases seem to be going up daily. Doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere soon and it’s now also flu season. If you do go out, please wear your mask, practice distancing and wash your hands often. If you can, support the local businesses while they are trying to survive. With this new strain of virus coming from England, I heard it’s to get bad again. On TV the other night they showed that it’s a good idea to wear TWO masks so as not to spread anything. Gotta get over with soon, but I did hear late August or even late September. That’s not good. Seems like there will be no summer activities again this year. Guess we have to play it by ear. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. They are available at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m. To order, please call 570-928-8909. Have seen a few turkeys running around the field across the street. I think all the animals are at Connie Hatch’s house from her news every week. She has quite a few critters there. Happy Birthday to Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot-Laird, 28th; Lisa Burke and Jason Burke, 30th. Hope you all have a super duper day. If you have news you’d like in the paper, please mail me; call me at 570-928-9238; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Seems its going to be pretty calm, but we’ll see. That’s it. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Can’t believe I saw the sun for a couple of days. Sunday afternoon with the sun out, the temperature went up to 45 degrees and melted some more snow. Was cold in the early mornings with some frost and the wind is our constant companion. I hear the weather for the week is to be pretty good with no storms on the horizon. Hope this is true, but it is January and winter yet. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale, the first and third Sunday of the month. They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m. Call 570-928-9238 to order yours. Hope everyone is doing well with this crazy virus still around. Now, I heard there is a second strain that has come from England. Will it ever be over with. Seems to go on and on. Do your part to help keep the virus under control. Wear your mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands often and if you don’t feel well, stay home. I try to keep in touch with folks by phone or Face Book. Sometimes it’s nice for them to hear that someone is checking on them, since they aren’t going out at this time. Sullivan County virus cases are still going up. If you can, now that some establishments are being open for longer hours, stop by to support them, whether it’s a bar, restaurant or store. They are struggling to keep afloat and need all the help we can give them. Happy Birthday to Adel Bradshaw, 20th; Jim Rouse, 21st; Irene Pequignot, 22nd; and Mike Stavisky down there in FL, 24th. Have a nice day. Happy Anniversary to Mary and Ted Lowden for 40 wonderful years on the 17th; Alex and Ginny Stavisky, 22nd; and Al and Jeannie Kapler, 23rd. Have a great day celebrating. Not much to report. I did see the neighbor girls sledding on the hill across the street one day. Saw about nine turkeys running through one other day. Don’t seem to see any deer at all. Guess that’s it. Enjoy your week. Be nice to get out and take a walk and get some fresh air before the weather turns bad again. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will put it in for you. Please do this by 6 p.m. so I can get it to the Sully soon after. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. Comments, good or bad, always good to hear. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Welcome to 2021. Sure hope it’s much better than 2020 has been. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year’s holiday.I guess everyone did as well as they could with the stipulations still in place. As I’m typing my news, we are getting a pretty good snow storm. I’ve heard reports that roads are very bad and to stay home if you don’t have to travel. Some roads were closed for a while because of so many accidents. Guess I’ll watch the plow come through and get rid of that white stuff. It does look pretty, from inside, and if you don’t have to go out. Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days over New Year’s at their home here. They relaxed, went for walks, and worked on puzzles. Had a nice, quiet, enjoyable time. (They should be here now.) St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale, the first and third Sunday of the month, from Noon to one p.m. at the Church Hall. To order, call 570-928-8909. Some local businesses are going to be able to have regular hours, with CDC guidelines in place. Support the local folks and VFW’s to help them keep going. It’s been a hard year for everyone. Not a lot of news. Guess most folks just stayed home and spent time with those that were right there. Don’t forget, we will get through this if everyone does their part. Wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands frequently. If you’re sick, please stay home. Hopefully, we can get rid of this virus sooner than later. Cases in Sullivan County are on the rise, so we all need to do our part. Happy Birthday wishes to send to Jeannie Kapler and Alex Stavisky, January 4th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli and John McDonald, Jr., both on the 7th. Hope you all have a nice day. B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Tyler (Slick) Higley who celebrates on the 13th. Hope you have a great day. Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver who celebrate on the 12th. Congratulations and many more. I think that’s it for this time. Enjoy your week. Might be doing some snow clearing. I heard it’s supposed to be pretty nice, but we’ll see. If you have news you would like in the paper, please call me at 570-928-9238 by 6 p.m. You can also see me or e-mail at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Have a great week and I’ll be here next time. Hope you all have survived the big storm on Wednesday. I know it’s going to take some time to get rid of that much snow. We had anywhere from 12-24 inches, depending on where you live. Some places had a lot more than that. Thursday was 16 degrees, Friday 21 degrees and Saturday was down to MINUS 12. The sun did appear later, but didn’t help much to melt anything. The icicles were huge and long on the house. I think we will have a white Christmas for sure. We heard quite a few flocks of geese during the week, after dark, so couldn’t see them, but did hear them on their way. They got smart and left. Got all your shopping done? Tell the kids that Santa is checking his list to see who’s naughty and who’s nice. Jody Brumwell, from the Dushore Post Office, wrote an excellent article on Face Book about the Post Office situation. They are doing the best they can during this pandemic and you just have to be patient. If you don’t get your package by Christmas, you’ll have something to look forward to in 2021. I know it’s important but that’s material things. The health of these hard working postal employees is much more important. I commend all the postal workers for the job they are doing and hope they stay safe and healthy. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. You can pick them up from the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m. Call 570-928-8909 to order yours. Happy Birthday wishes to Kaeleigh McDonald and Lily Ann Bahr who both celebrate on the 23rd; and Ginny Stavisky, 31st. Have a nice day. Happy Anniversary to Anthony and Bethany Sneidar as they celebrate five years on the 28th. Many more good years ahead. Not much to report. With the rise in positive Covid cases, I think folks are just staying home. You can help by wearing a mask, practice social distancing and washing your hands often. This is the last Sully for the year. Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year. Sure hope 2021 will be a much better year for everyone. Thanks to John and Chris for allowing me to write my news each week and getting it in print. Enjoy the rest of the year, whatever your plans. Nice to get out and take a walk and enjoy the brisk, cool air. Stay safe and healthy. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here for the first 2021 issue, the 6th of January. If you have news you’d like in the paper, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. Please get it to me by 7 p.m. on Sunday evening as I have to send it over shortly after that. Hope you all had a good week. Had some nice sunny, warm days. We did have some snow on Wednesday. We had 51 degrees at 3 p.m. on Friday; 50 degrees at 9 p.m. on Saturday and 45 degrees at 8 a.m. on Sunday. I had to look a couple of times to see I was looking at the right temperature. Well, let’s see if we get that snow storm on Wednesday. All the hype and we may not get much at all and hope it doesn’t last long. South of us is to get quite a bit more. They can have it, but I guess the kids do want some snow to go sledding. We will see what happens. Happy Belated Birthday to Alexis Musani whose special day was the 10th. Hope it was nice. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. They are available at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m. Please call 570-928-8909 to order. Distinguished Honor Roll – Charles Armioia (9th grade); Kyler Burke (12th grade); Joey Malkemes (12th grade); Karson Musani (12th grade). Honor Roll – John Carmelo (10th grade); Paige Burke (12th grade) Trace Neary (12th grade). Congratulations to all. I commend ALL the students, teachers and parents for the great job they are doing during this different kind of school time. Hope all you students keep up the good work. I had an enjoyable, fun Sunday evening when grandson, Tyler, came up and we played SkipBo and ate pizza. Nice way to pass the time. Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home here and enjoyed the nice weather. Not much else to report. Covid cases are going up in Sullivan County so remember to practice social distancing, wash your hands often and wear your mask. If you are sick, please stay home. Happy Birthday wishes to Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, both on the 19th; Alyssa Pequignot, 20th. Hope you all have a nice day. If you would like any news in the paper, please get it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. I have to get it over to the Sully soon after that. Thank you. Guess that’s about it for now. Enjoy your week; don’t know yet what’s in store. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will put it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Stay well; stay safe. ######################################################################### Hope everyone had a good week. The weather was miserable almost all week long with low temperatures that didn’t warm up much. We had frost, clouds and that ever present wind. We did have a couple of days with snow showers that coated the ground. Sunday was terribly cold and so windy. Good day to stay in and read a book or do puzzles. Did you see that picture in the Sully last week of that 19 point buck taken in Hillsgrove area. That’s some rack! Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Judy Rattigan who passed away on November 5th. She lived in Lopez at one time and was still a frequent visitor when she moved to Larksville. Sympathy from the community to Carole Kilgus and family on the passing of her brother, Ray Barber, on the third of December. He was such a pleasant man; helped out in any way he could, wherever he was needed. Ray was an asset to the Civic Association, helping with flea markets and Old Home Day. He could become friends with anyone. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. They are available the first and third Sunday of the month at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m. They make a very good meal. Birthdays coming up include Andrea (Matychak) Anderson, 12th; Irena Pochatko, also on the 12th; Dylan Amon, 13th; Noah Brown, 14th; and Carter Vermiere, 17th. Have a nice day. Hope you hunters are enjoying the woods and getting your buck or doe. Congratulations to Kaeleigh McDonald who got her first doe when hunting on Saturday. Good luck to all of you. Little by little, I see more Christmas decorations going up as I walk around town. I got a very nice comment from Paul and Joyce Hails on the manger scene at the monument. Said it really means a lot to them and nice to see our small community displaying the real meaning of Christmas. Hope many more like it as well. Don’t forget, the Civic Association still has a few Lopez t-shirts, hoodies, koozies for sale. Thank you to all who have purchased. Don’t forget to support your local businesses when you can to help keep them going during this time. It’s tough right now and any little bit helps them out. I see Christmas in Dushore is coming up on Saturday, the 12th, from 2-6 p.m. Fun for all. Drop down there to take part and have an enjoyable day. Don’t know of anything else to report. Probably have some more winter-like weather, since it’s that time of year. Enjoy your week, no matter what you do, even if you stay in by the fire and read. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will put it in for you. Don’t forget, with this rise in cases in Sullivan County, to do social distancing, wear your mask, stay home if you don’t feel well, and WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN. Stay well; stay safe, everyone. Hopefully we will get through this sometime soon. ################################################### Hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and didn’t eat too much, but enough. It was just nice if you were able to be with family during this crazy time right now. Hopefully it will get better soon. Covid cases have been going up in Sullivan County so be sure to social distance, wear your mask and wash your hands frequently. If you don’t feel well, stay home. The weather was kind of up and down. We had a few days of rain, some sun, lots of clouds and wind. Sunday morning we registered 13 degrees, but did warm up during the day. The sun goes down about 4 p.m. and it gets really cool and too darn dark that early. I saw many hunters up and down the road, but don’t know about any deer yet. Mark and Lisa Fenster, Mark, Jr, Tatania and Sophia Fenster, all from Philly, enjoyed the Holiday weekend at their home on Church Street. TJ, Allison, Jase Lowden, and Wesson, Marlton, NJ, also enjoyed the long weekend at their home on Church Street and visited his parents, Ted and Mary on Maple Terrace. Ted and Mary Lowden had visitors over the weekend from Delaware. Bill Walton and Michael “Moo” Edison didn’t shoot anything but had a great time here. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month at the Church Hall, from Noon to one p.m. They make a nice meal anytime. I see some more Christmas decorations are up and look very festive and pretty. At least we have something to make us feel like getting into the Christmas spirit. The Monument is all lit with Christmas lights and the manger scene. The Pavilion has a big star on one of the posts. Will look nice if we get a “tad” of snow; not too much or it hides the statues and lambs. Happy Birthday to Elexus Dunkleberger, December 6th; Tony Sneidar, Jr. and Robyn McCobin, 8th; Aaron Risser 9th. Hope you all have a nice day. Get your Lopez hoodies, masks, t-shirts and koozies. They sell fast, so don’t miss out. Hoodies are great for going out hunting; put it on under your orange outfits. Or, just to wear on these cooler days if you’re outside. If interested, please contact me below for availability. Don’t have a whole lot of news. Remember, when you can, to support the local businesses to help keep them going. With the restrictions, they are doing the best they can, but they need supporters. No Civic meetings until March or April, weather permitting. Membership dues are due now so see Heather McDonald to renew or to join the Civic Association. I see there was a lot of activity down at Tent City as they were here for the Thanksgiving weekend. I guess that’s the news for now. Enjoy your week. I did hear rain is in the forecast, along with some snow showers. We can handle that, no problem. Just get outside, even if you don’t do anything. Fresh air is always good. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. ******************************************************************************************** We had some cloudy, rainy and windy days and a few nice days. Saw some geese go over on Wednesday afternoon. We did have a tad of snow on the ground one day during the week, but didn’t last long. The weather was perfect on Friday for doing the Christmas decorating at the Pavilion. I had 68 degrees at 3 p.m. Thanks to Les and Kathy Isett; Clair Johnson, Brian McGuire, Nina Weslowski and Bob and me we got it done. Sure different than last year when we were decorating in the sleet and freezing rain. This time was a pleasure. Hopefully it will look nice when we turn the lights on and it will be enjoyed by all during this pandemic. St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. They are available the first and third Sunday of the month, from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall. Will make good additions to your meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Watch the Sully for the Civic meetings in the New Year. Civic dues still being taken by Heather McDonald. See her to renew or join. On Sunday we saw four pick up trucks go up the hill and about a dozen orange clad hunters emerged and walked into the woods. Hope they had some luck. With that many hunters, the poor deer didn’t have a chance. Never saw them come out, so don’t know if they did get anything or maybe scouting for another time. I must apologize for no Lopez news last week. I was a tad under the weather so didn’t get it done. I’m much better and here I am. We had some really frosty early mornings with temperatures in the low 20’s. Did warm up, which was nice. We did have a couple days of much needed rain. Hopefully we’ll get some more nice days, but it’s getting that time of year when they are done with. Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. Deanna Middaugh and her sister, Mary Jane Rolls, both from Elmira, NY, came to Lopez last week one day to check out the old places. Deanna’s daughter, Jennifer Middaugh, Ithaca, NY, had asked her mother what she wanted for her birthday. Deanna mentioned that she and Mary Jane had talked about coming back to Lopez to visit various places and go to the cemetery. So, that was Jennifer’s birthday present to her Mom. Deanna and Mary Jane are the daughters of Sophia Homza. They also enjoyed lunch at the Jolly Trolley in Dushore. I think lots of canning and freezing was done with the produce and will be good for the winter weather. I see some folks are getting out and about and starting to come to their homes and cabins. I did see on Channel 16 that Sullivan County has another virus case. Lets hope that’s the last one. We’re still doing the social distancing, wearing masks and washing our hands. Haven’t seen the bear(s) around lately or many deer. We have seen a bunch of turkeys in the field across the street. I think the humming birds have finally all gone South. We’ve had our feeder out for those stragglers, but haven’t seen any for a couple of days. Guess that’s about it. Enjoy your week. I did hear it’s supposed to hit 70-75 and that will feel so good. Must have been making their last stop from Canada before going South. Was quite a sight to see. Irene Pequignot spent the weekend at her home here. Sophie Bednar came to visit on Sunday. Saturday hit us with 39 degrees in the early morning and was windy and cold most of the day. Sunday was 49 degrees early and was pretty chilly but did warm up nice later in the day. From what I hear more nice weather on the way. That’s fine with me. Most of the hummers have gone South, so you know it’s getting cooler. We did have one day during the week of pouring rain and wind. Saturday we had a low of 40 degrees, but the day turned out perfect. Friday evening we enjoyed a cook-out with Alex, Ginny, Ted and Faye. Was a nice evening to have hot dogs over the fire and sit and share all kinds of memories growing up. On Saturday we had a picnic in the park with Linda and Bill Pieffer, her daughter, Sherry and son, Amari. Another perfect day. Was nice to visit and Amari enjoyed the pond. He found lots of snails and “pretty” stones. While sitting at the pond, we watched a lot of motorcycles going back and forth. Good day for a good ride. Don’t know what the weather has in store. On Tuesday we had quite a bad storm with rain, wind, thunder and lightning. One crack of lightning was pretty powerful and struck the chimney on the Studio next door. Bricks all over the ground. Also took out our phone and a couple of LED lights. One neighbor had damage to his computer modem also that had to be replaced. Was the loudest I’ve ever heard. Thursday we had another storm, but not quite as bad as Tuesday. We did need the rain to get some moisture into the ground. The gardens seem to be producing really well and lots of canning and freezing of produce which will be good during the winter months. Hardly seems possible the months are passing by so quickly. I’d like summer to stay for a while yet. Sympathy from the community to the relatives, family and many friends of Jake Gardner who passed away on the 24th. With all this corona stuff going on, not many activities going on around the area. Hopefully, soon, this will be over with and we can get back to doing what we were once doing. Just remember to wear the mask, social distancing, don’t go out if you’re sick and most importantly, WASH YOUR HANDS often. We will get through this. Enjoy your week. Should be fairly nice. Did hear some showers may be on the way, but hopefully not as bad as last week. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will put it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Hope you all had a nice week. Weather was really nice, with only one day of rain. We do need some gentle rain to sink into the ground and green things up. It’s very dry. Supposed to be hot and humid next week, with a few more days of rain. That is, if the weatherman is right. Have to wait and see. The gardens seem to be producing well and the flowers and looking really good. The humming birds are at our feeder in abundance. Usually about a dozen flitting around fighting (or playing) to get a spot on the feeder. The bear made an early morning trip and left his calling card. Didn’t see him, but knew he was here. I don’t know what happened to the chipmunks. We had four little buggers and they seem to be gone. With the dry weather, there have been sightings of snakes out and about. So, just be aware when you’re walking around to watch for them. Some are big, some are small, but I don’t like any at all. Next Civic meeting will be WEDNESDAY, September 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Membership dues are due September 1st. See Heather to renew or to become a member. Support your community. I keep hearing it’s going to be around for some time, but I hope that’s wrong and it’s gone and just a bad memory. Mark and Lisa enjoyed a couple of days at their home here with the nice weather. School has started. Hope the kids are going to do well and have a good year, despite the difference this year. Good luck to home schoolers as well. On Tuesday, we did have a little rain. We do need rain. The grass is brown and the gardens and flower beds need the rain too. Hopefully some of that much needed wetness will come our way. School will be starting on Thursday, the 20th. Be on the watch for kids at the bus stops so take a little extra time and go slower. Good luck to all. I know some will be home schooling or doing virtual learning, but we wish them luck too. The summer went by pretty fast and hopefully this virus will be on its way out soon. Then, maybe everyone can enjoy their life once again. With most things being cancelled, there isn’t much to report on. Support your local businesses when you can so they can keep their shops and stores open. Just do the wearing of the mask, social distancing, etc., etc., etc. Happy Birthday wishes to Macrina Pochatko, 23rd;Karly Amon, 26th; and Gaige Burke, 29th. Have a nice day. Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke as they celebrate on the 26th. Have a fantastic day and many more. Well, folks, what can I say…….Be Happy, Be Safe, Be Healthy. That’s about all the news I have. Haven’t heard the weather report, so don’t know what the week has in store for us, but enjoy it anyway. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will put your item in. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Hope you all enjoyed another nice week of good weather. Tuesday was the only day that was dreary and miserable with rain all day. The weekend was perfect again for cook-outs and gatherings. Sadly, we lost two of our Lopez residents last week. On Wednesday, both Mamie Kravetz and Dolores Mattichak passed away. Mamie had been staying with her niece, Pam Arthur. Dolores was with her son in North Carolina. Both will be missed. Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of both these nice ladies. Private funeral services for Mamie were on Tuesday, with Rev Archimandrite Michael Thier presiding. Funeral for Dolores was on Monday with Rev Dennis Hendershot presiding. Burial for both was in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Lopez. Got the following e-mail and hope someone can help: This is Rosemarie Halady. I own the Kivetisky house on Turrelltown Rd. Cindy and Joe and Mike and Becky spent some time here visiting their parents, Alex and Ginny. Couldn’t have asked for better weather. Thank you to Tom and Barb Keller for their generous donation for up-keep of Cold Spring. They have a place on Dutch Mountain Road and go to Cold Spring often. Anyone wishing to donate to help with up-keep, send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA 18628 and mark the envelope “Cold Spring”. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Bob McGuire, Jr. and Tyler visited on Sunday with us and also with Brian, and Nina Weslowski. Being Tyler’s last Sunday at home, Brian had a little cook-out while they were here. He will be going back to RIT in Rochester, NY, for his sophmore year. Also there was Gerry and Paula Weslowski who had spent the weekend at their camp here. Civic meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Being things are still cancelled, there isn’t a whole lot of news to report. Hopefully this pandemic will be over and we can get on with things the way they once were, or as close as possible. Happy Birthday wishes to Dustin Burke, 15th; Kevin Pequignot, 16th; TJ Lowden, 17th; Andrew Froese, 20th; and Mary (Maximiek) Santiago, 21st. Hope you all have a nice day. Happy Anniversary to Bill and Bonnie Killian as they celebrate on the 16th. Have a good day and many more years. Well, that’s the news for now. Enjoy your week. As I’m typing my news early Monday morning the sun is shining and looks like a great day to be out and about. I heard from Tuesday to Friday we could have rain showers, but the gardens and flowers do need the rain. It’s been very dry. At least it will be warm. Remember social distancing, wearing the masks and washing your hands. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Great week, weather wise again. We did have a couple of days that it rained, but not enough to do much. We do need rain…..everything is so dry. Gardens seem to be doing well and producing and the flowers are so pretty. The weekend was perfect for quad riding, picnics, pools and get-togethers. There were even a couple of golf carts driving around taking in the scenery and visiting folks. Even going for walks when the sun went down was nice. I did hear we are to get rain a few days this week. We were to get rain all day on Sunday and we never got a drop. So, we just have to go day by day. Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home here to get some yard work done and do some relaxing. Adel Bradshaw also enjoyed a few days at her home. Next Civic meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, August 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Gerry and Paula Weslowski spent the weekend at their place here and visited daughter, Nina, and Brian McGuire. Tent City had their annual reunion over the weekend. Many campers were there, even for the whole week. Good time for all. Enjoyed the amazing fireworks on Saturday night. We still have a few early years of Lopez mugs. If interested contact me at the information below for details. If you’d like to be put on the reserve list for 2021, let me know. Happy Birthday to Randy Lebo and Mary Lowden, 10th; Kari Spinosa, 11th; Al Kapler, 12th; and Lisa Beaver, 13th. Hope you all have a nice day. Not much to report as to activities going on in the County. Everything is pretty much canceled for the time being. Social distancing is in practice, as well as wearing face masks. I’m sure everyone is being cautious about going out when necessary. Hopefully, this will change in the next months. Don’t forget about washing your hands. Guess that’s about it. Enjoy your week. It’s to be pretty nice, even if we do get the much needed rain. Let the kids get out and jump in the puddles. We did that as kids and it was so much fun. Only do that if it’s not thunder and lightning. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Comments always appreciated. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Hope you all enjoyed another nice week of good weather. We did have one day of rain, but it didn’t last long. Always pours, then quits, the sun comes out and it gets hot. Good time to get some camping, swimming and picnics in. The gardens are looking nice and starting to produce some good veggies. Flower beds and hanging baskets are doing really well too. Mike, Heather, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald took advantage of the weather and had fun camping for a few days. Had fires, enjoyed the creek and just to get away was nice. Bob Jr. and Tyler McGuire visited with us, his brother, Brian, and Nina Weslowski on Sunday. It was such a nice evening on Saturday, we sat out late and did hot dogs over the fire on a fork. Was so quiet and calm. Thanks to Jason for the nice display of fireworks on Saturday. We could see them from our upstairs window. Since there are not many activities and things going on due to this virus junk, I don’t have a lot of news. Folks are kinda staying close to home and going out when necessary. Gotta do what you gotta do. Practice social distancing, wear a mask, keep away from people if you’re sick or they’re sick. Most of all…..WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN. Alex and Ginny Stavisky and Ted and Faye Puzo are spending some time at their homes here. Enjoying the nice weather and taking rides on their golf carts. Next Civic meeting will be on WED. August 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. We would like to get some more interested in joining the Civic, for only $1.00 and help with ideas and projects. We do have t-shirts, hoodies, koozies and a couple license plates for sale. If interested, contact me. If you have any ideas for a fund raiser, let us know. With no Old Home Day, our funds are running low. Happy Birthday to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherill Dayton, August 4th; Kyle Froese and Kathy Lebo, 9th. Have a nice day. I think the weather for the week, from what I heard, is to be hot and humid again, with temperatures in the 90’s. Time to turn the air conditioner on, get in the pool or go to the creek. Geez. That’s about it. Hopefully soon more folks will be able to come to their homes, cabins and campgrounds to enjoy some summer time weather. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ March 3, 2021

My neighbor messaged me that earlier in the week she saw ” a woman whose father was born in your house. They took a look around.” That was all the info she gave me. I would like to get in touch with her. I would like to let her look around inside (hopefully next year if/when I come up (Covid)) as well as ask her if she has a photo of the house from when her family lived there. ( Saw there was once a north gable when I had a new roof put on last year and would love to see how it looked.) I framed a photo of Marie Sysock and her family and it hangs in the house’s living room and would like to do the same with any other previous inhabitants. (Contact me at the information below for her phone number or e-mail address.) August 5, 2020
