Lopez, PA Posted on October 2, 2024 by Bob McGuireOctober 2, 2024

Wow!  We’ve sure had the rain.  All week long, some pretty good, some just enough to make everything wet and not being able to do outside work.  Along with the rain, we had some pretty dreary days.   I see the trees are finally getting some more color and look a lot better than a week ago.  Just looking for some warm, sunny days yet.  I see the turkeys and deer are out more often now, across the road in the yards.  Even saw a fawn nursing as she and the doe were walking along eating whatever the doe found.  Was really cute to watch.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Getting a little too cold to meet at the Pavilion.  Civic dues are now due.  See Kathy Isett.

Happy Birthday wishes to Elizabeth Kapler, October 1st; Joe Fanning and Kyleigh McDonald, 2nd; and Maggie Brumwell, 5th.  Have a happy day.

Happy Anniversary to Gerry and Paula Weslowski, 1st; and Tony and Donna Cikovic, 2nd.  Have a nice day.

Did you know you can boost your laundry by using Epsom salts?  Epsom salts, combined with a little essential oil makes a perfect fabric softener.  In addition, the salts will help remove detergent build-up from your washer.  Mix 4 cups of Epsom salts with 20 drops of your favorite oil.  Add 1/4 cup to each load of laundry.

I see there are a lot of pumpkins and gourds around.  Will be for nice decorations for the Fall and for Halloween, which I see some have already used to brighten up their yards along with corn stalks and other “spooky” decorations.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  There is still plenty going on for the month of October that you may be interested in.   Support your local businesses.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week and hope for sun.  Sun glasses are better than boots.  Hope everyone stays well.  Some crazy  viruses are still going around.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in.  Comments always welcome.  I’ve had a few nice comments on the tips I’ve been putting in and that’s always nice to hear.   Good or bad, I take them all.

Lopez, PA Posted on September 27, 2024 by Bob McGuireSeptember 27, 2024

We had a pretty nice week last week.  Lots of sun and nice days after cool mornings.  Did have a short thunder storm on Saturday evening.  Sunday was a beautiful day.  The leaves are really turning and some trees are almost bare.  Looks a little drabby for this year.  Gardens are winding down and flowers are getting done.  I see lots of pumpkins, corn stalks and Halloween decorations in my walks around town.  I did see five deer in the cemetery and 15 turkeys.  Haven’t seen any for quite a while.  The week is to bring us some rain, but that can change.  We’ll just have to see what the “good lady” has in store for us.  We will take what we get.

Jason Walton, who has a home in Lopez, sent me the following message to share:  “I am currently serving on active duty with the Army in the Horn of Africa.  I have been in the National Guard for ten years and got called up to go overseas.  Will probably be home sometime in July.”  We thank him for his service and hope he stays well and safe.

Fill a glass of with warm water, squeeze in half a lemon and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.  Sip it slowly and let it work its magic.  Works best if you keep at it.  After a week you should begin experiencing health benefits.  Try it and see if it works for you.

Happy Birthday to Ted Beaver, 27th.  Have a fabulous day.

Happy Anniversary to Dustin and Sam Burke as they celebrate on the 28th.  Have a happy day and many more to come.

Bob McGuire Jr. and Marsha Fitzgerald enjoyed his 40th class reunion on Saturday, held at Hatch House in Towanda.  Was a good time for all who were able to make it.  Hatch House is owned and run by a classmate, Roger Hatch and his wife.  Beautiful bed and breakfast.  Check it out on Face Book if you’re looking for a nice place to stay.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, October 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building..  Membership dues are now due.  See Kathy Isett to pay yours or to become a member.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  I know there are events coming up in October that you may be interested in

and hopefully the weather will still be nice.

That’s it for this time.  Hope everyone stays well.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  You may need the umbrella if you’re out and abut.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on September 18, 2024 by Bob McGuireSeptember 18, 2024

Hope you are enjoying the nicer weather we’ve been having.  Cool temperatures in the morning, but does warm up nicely during the day.  When the sun goes down, it starts to cool off again.  Hope we can have lots more nicer days.  The leaves are really starting to turn and some are already off the trees.  Finally saw four deer in the field.  Hadn’t seen any for quite a while.  Haven’t seen any turkeys at all.   I think the hummers may have left.  Haven’t seen them for days now.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent Sunday at her home here.  Was a nice day to be out and about.

Happy Birthday to Roland Dayton, 21st; Bob Day, 23rd; and Tom Finan, 25th.

St. Vladimir’s Church will have NO pierogies until further notice.  I will let you know as soon as I get the ok that they have more for sale.

Did you know if you clean your face with Epsom salts it helps to exfoliate, remove blackheads and prevent acne?  Put a teaspoon of Epsom salts in your hand and mix with a little warm water.  Scrub your face with the mixture, then rinse clean.

I think there may still be things going on around the County you may be interested in.  So, keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what you might like.

Thank you, Connie, for the “razz” about cleaning the dryer filter.

Guess that’s all for now.  Enjoy your week.  Stay well.  Just can’t seem to get rid of these viruses that seem to be always around.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Weather sure is getting “iffy” day by day.  Had some really good days early in the week.  Had some low temperatures; warmed up during the day.  Thirty degree temperatures are not to my liking.  Had some rain, but cleared up and got nice in the afternoon.  Of course, the wind is always with us.  Check full weather report from Sam’s Lopez weather, elsewhere in this issue.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, spent the Labor Day holiday here with his Dad, Bob, Jr.; Uncle B and Nina Weslowski; and us.  Nice time for all.  Just too short.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Happy Birthday wishes to Alexia Vermiere, 13th; JoAnn McDonald, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Scott and Susan Aharonian as they celebrate on the 14th.  Happy day and many more.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 18th, 6 pm. at the Pavilion.  I goofed last week and put the wrong date.  It is the 18th.  Hopefully the weather will be nice enough to meet at the Pavilion.  Membership dues are now due.  See Kathy Isett, or call her at 610-413-6439 to renew or to join.

Even if you are very diligent about cleaning the lint filter in your dryer, it still may be causing you a problem.  If you use dryer sheets, a waxy build-up could be accumulating on the filter, causing your dryer to over heat.  The solution to this is to clean your filter with a toothbrush and hot, soapy water every 6 months.  (I know I’ll get “razzed” about this one.)

The gardens and flowers are winding down, but did very well this year.  Lots to can and freeze for the winter months.  The hummers are still here, but probably not much longer.  They want to go where it’s warm.

Bob and I enjoyed lunch on Saturday at Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant in Wyoming with some of his school classmates.  Food is excellent there and we all had a nice time visiting.

I hear there are to be some more warm days coming.  Hope this is true.  Don’t like the thoughts of cold weather.

You can still keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events going on.  There might be something of interest to you.  Weather is changing, so dress accordingly.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.  I had one nice comment from a lady about my hint to put hot water in your cup or spoon before you put your “sticky” ingredient in.  Thank you to her.  I’m glad I was able to help.

SEPTEMBER 4, 2024

Lopez, PA Posted on September 6, 2024 by Bob McGuireSeptember 6, 2024

We had a couple of good rain storms.  Some places measured 4 inches.  It was windy too.  Hopefully, we’ll get some nice weather yet before summer is over.

Hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day Holiday.  The Sullivan County Fair was a big draw with lots to see and do.  Despite the rain at times, I think everyone had an enjoyable time.

Thank you to Jane Swift, Worlds End State Park, for inviting UVBOB down to do a fluorescent mineral program on Sunday evening at the new amphitheater.   There was a nice crowd in attendance.  Bob showed how ugly rocks fluoresce under ultraviolet light.   The kids all got rocks at the end of the showing.  There were a lot of “oohs and aahs” when the lights were put on the ugly rocks and they turned “pretty”.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the fist and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 11th, 6 p.m., hopefully at the Pavilion, weather permitting.  Membership dues are now due.  To renew your membership or to join, please see Kathy Isett.  It costs “one buck”.

With “cooler” weather on the way more steadily, have you had your furnace cleaned for the winter season.  Good idea to get it done to be sure all is in working order.   So many people seem to think that Mother Nature is going to hit us with a more than normal snowfall and colder weather this year.  Sure hope it’s wrong.  We will have to wait and see what’s in store for us.

If you seal an envelope and realize you forgot to put something inside, place the envelope in the freezer for an hour or two.  It will unseal easily,.

Happy Birthday to Kristin (McDonald) Mensch, 5th; Emilia Williams, 6th; Miles Baton, 8th;  and Emerson Brumwell, 10th.  Hope you all have a good day.

Thank you to Barb who liked my hint about rinsing hot water in your measuring cup or spoon to easily take out “sticky” stuff when cooking or baking.  We were at the Fair on Saturday and a couple people mentioned about enjoying reading my news.  Always like comments, either good or telling me how to improve my column.  If you have a special hint you’d like me to add to my column, please check the info below and send it along and I will put it in.  If you have any kind of news item you’d like to share, please let me know.

Happy Anniversary to Les and Kathy Isett as they celebrate on the 10th.  Enjoy your day.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book as there will still be things going on around the County that might be of interest to you.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Was a cool Monday early morning as I typed my news, but I see the sun is beginning to give us a nice day.   Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 21, 2024 by Bob McGuireSeptember 17, 2024

Hopefully some nice weather is still on the way.  The leaves are starting to change already and some say that’s pretty early this year.  There are lots of berries and apples so some think we may have a harsh winter this year.  The gardens are doing really well this year.  Guess time will tell and we will have to take whatever Mother Nature has in store for us.  I see the weather for the week is to be cloudy with a few showers popping up now and then.

Can’t believe that school will be starting on the 22nd already.   Please watch out for the kids as they wait for the bus.  Gotta get someplace, leave a little earlier than normal.  The month will be over with before we know it.

COME ONE!  COME ALL!   Come to the Worlds End State Park on Sunday, September 1st to see the fluorescent mineral program by UVBOB (Bob McGuire).  This will be in the new Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m since it’s outside and has to be dark.  He will show you how ugly rocks turn pretty when using ultraviolet lights.  Hope to see you there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Gaige Burke; 29th; Gerald Maloney, 30th.  Have a very nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke as they celebrate on the 26th.  Have a super day.

Before you put sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water.  Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry the cup.  Next, add your ingredient and watch how easily it comes right out.  Spraying the cup or spoon with Pam before using also works.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things coming up.  The 172nd Sullivan County Fair will be held from August 28th to September 2nd,with Home Talent Night on the 27th.  That is always a fun time to see what the local talent has to offer.  There will be plenty to see and do from Wednesday on.  I’m sure there will be other events also taking place in the County also.

Bob and I attended our last Che-Hanna Rock & Mineral club picnic on Sunday.  This was held at the pavilion in Kirby Park, Nichols, NY.  Was a nice time for the Pebble Pups and club members to visit, take part in activities and have some good food.  Thought we were going to get some bad weather, but it was a perfect day for a picnic.  In September we meet at the Athens Methodist Church, 6:30 p.m., if anyone is interested in going to learn about rocks and minerals.  Meetings are open to the public.  Any questions, call Bob at the number below.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in New Hampshire to attend the wedding of Nina’s cousin.  They also spent time in Boston with her family.  Nice time for all and the weather was perfect.   Congratulations to the bride and groom.

Well, guess that’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 14, 2024 by Bob McGuireSeptember 17, 2024

Had some really good thunder storms during the week.  Friday was the worst day, with so much rain and very windy.  There was flooded roads, water in some basements and in the fields.  The rain finally quit and the weekend turned out pretty nice for those activities that were going on.  Let’s see what this week has to offer.   Hopefully a little better.   The gardens are really producing well and there are a lot of apples this year.  Someone mentioned when there is canning and freezing to do from the abundance of fruits and vegetables that we may be in for a harsher winter than last year.  Let’s hope it isn’t too awful bad.

Next Civic Association meeting will be on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  To order, call 732-221-2803 or 440-645-9719.

I missed some birthdays last week, so will include them this week.  Happy Birthday to Kyle Froese, and Kathy Lebo, 9th; Randy Lebo and Mary Lowden, 10th; Kari Spinosa, 11th; Albert Kapler and Chase Brumwell, 12th; Linda Beaver, 13th; Dustin Burke, 15th; Kevin Pequignot, 16th; TJ Lowden and Grayson Schiele, 17th; and Andrew Froese, 20th.  Hope you all had/have a great day.

Happy Anniversary to Bill and Bonnie Killian as they celebrate on the 16th.  Have a nice day.

Bathroom and kitchen tile grime can be difficult to clean.  Powerful tile cleaners are not only expensive, but also often contain harmful chemicals.  Make your own hard working natural Epsom salt tile scrub.  Mix equal parts liquid dish soap with Epsom salts.  Scrub tiles with a sponge and rinse clean with water.

I know there will still be things going on around the County that might interest you.  Keep your eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what that might be for you to take in and enjoy.

Guess that’s “all she wrote”.   Enjoy your week, whatever it is you might do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me, or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments are always welcome.

Thank you to EVERYONE who helped in any way to make Lopez Old Home the success that it was.  Even with the pouring rain on Saturday, early evening, things still went on. If you donated anything to the day; whether it was volunteering your time, baking, cooking, whatever, THANK YOU.  There are way too many people to list, you know who you are, and we do thank you.  The kids had a ball running through the rain and splashing in the huge puddles.  The rain finally quit and the awesome fireworks were done too, purchased from B4 Pryo, LLC, right here in Lopez.  Check out his website to see what all he has to offer.   Special thanks to you, the public, who came to support the Civic Association.   Hope to see you again next year, and many more folks.

We did have little rain showers on Thursday and Friday, but not like Saturday,..  Sunday was a hot and humid day, but with no rain.  Looks like we’ll be getting more during the week.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of John Reese who passed away on July 22nd.

Teri Bullis and her Mom, Carole Kilgus, New Holland, were in Sullivan County  on the 28th of July to celebrate Carole’s birthday with family and friends at breakfast at Pam’s in Dushore.  Nice time for all who were able to make it.  Many more Happy Birthdays, Carole.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here and enjoyed her family reunion at Connell’s Dam on Saturday and also some time at Old Home Day.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, came in on Sunday to spend a week at their home.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and they will have a nice vacation.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 pm. at the Pavilion.

I see Tent City was really full over the weekend as so many came to town to attend Old Home Day and also spend time with all who were at their respective places.  Good time for all.  Ron did a fantastic job with fireworks on Friday evening.

Sullivan County Fair is just around the corner.  Check the Sully and Face Book for all the details.  Lots going on during that time.

School will soon be starting too.  Some kids are glad to go; some kids don’t really want to go, but will, reluctantly.

There is still some summer time left, so watch the Sully and Face Book for things that will be happening.  There will certainly be something of interest for you to take part in or just watch.  I know there will be a lot going on in Dushore for Founder’s Day on Saturday, the 10th.  Full day planned with all kinds of activities.

The 4-H Model Rocketry Club will hold their launch on Saturday, the 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Vough farm fields.  Open to anyone interested to see how the kids have done with their rockets and watch them go up, up and sometimes away.

Think that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  The gardens are doing really well and there are lots of apples to make delicious pies and applesauce.  Someone said with all the produce and fruit available that we may have a hard winter this year.  Will have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.   Hope she will be kind to us.

Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had some rainy days during the week, but  Saturday and Sunday both were nice for flea markets and yard sales; camping; ice cream, quad riding; picnics; or just taking a walk to enjoy those days. Warm days and cool nights , good for sleeping.   Looks like maybe rain for a couple of days, then nice again.  I’ll take the nice weather.  Haven;t seen deer or turkeys around much, but do have the humming birds, ground hogs, bunnies and other birds taking care of their little ones in the nests.   Gardens look like they are doing well and flowers are still abundant and so pretty.

Fourth marking period for school.  Congratulations to all.  Distinguished Honors – Miles Baton, Makala Day, Kyleigh McDonald, Izabella Capriotti, Ruby Malkemes, Kaeleigh McDonald and Adrianna Capriotti.  Honor Roll – Bruno Day and Enrico Capriotti.

The weekend was perfect for any events and activities going on in the County.  Hope you got to enjoy something during that time.  I see rain in the forecast for a couple of days, then nice again.  Gardens and flowers seem to be doing well.  Sure are some pretty colored flowers around to enjoy.  The humming birds are still busily “slurping” at the feeders and are fun to watch.

There will be a work bee at the Pavilion on Tuesday, the 30th, at 5 p.m. to get ready for Old Home Day.  If you can spare some time, volunteers are needed.  Many hands get things done quickly and it’s done in no time.

Old Home Day is right around the corner.  Saturday, August 3rd, Noon to 10 p.m.  All kinds of things will be going on.  Food, food, food. Games. Bingo.  Raffles. Music.  And, more.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, please call 732-221-2803 or 440-645-9719.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, August 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Bob and I enjoyed the Che-Hanna mineral club picnic on Sunday, held at Round Top, Athens Twp.  Nice group of club members attended.  Lots of good food, good visiting and games played.  Pebble Pups were also there and enjoyed hands on activities.  Weather sure was nice for the day.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up around the County.  Something might be of interest to you.  Still some nice, summer weather to take advantage of.  (I sure hope so.)

Stay cool; stay well.  That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me  at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 19, 2024 by Bob McGuireJuly 19, 2024

Was another warm week with temperatures in the 80’s and very humid.  Did have some rain and the power has been blinking off and on for days.  Will be hot for the week again with maybe more rain on the way.  Gardens are producing and mostly doing well.  The flowers are so pretty and many colors.  The humming birds are still around and so much fun to watch.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here and had some nice days to get outside work done.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order call 732-221-2803 or 440-645-9719.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Old Home Day is fast approaching on Saturday, August 3rd.  Volunteers are really needed.  If you have some free time, please try and help to make the day another success.  Contact Jodi at 971-5002 or Kathy at 610-413-6439  to let them know.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent an enjoyable weekend in Allentown with her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski.

Happy Birthday to Adam Aharonian, 18th; Evalyn Lansberry and Sister Ella Mae McDonald, 20th;  Matt Dayton, 21st; and Billy Stasiak, 22nd.  Hope you all have a nice day.

To fertilize potted plants, sprinkle Epsom salts around the base of the plant once every week.  Also works great for tomatoes and other vegetables.

I guess that’s about it for this time.  Enjoy your week.  If it’s terribly hot, make sure to stay hydrated and out of the sun as much as possible.  For outdoor workers that will be harder to do, so just take a break every now and then.   Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 11, 2024 by Bob McGuireJuly 11, 2024

Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July. There were some pretty cool fireworks around the County.   We had some really hot days and did have some rain.  We had an 8 hour power outage on Saturday.  Wasn’t any storm or wind.  Someone mentioned a couple of transformers that blew.  Affected Lopez, Ricketts Glen, Mildred and Laporte.  Was fixed by 9:45 a.m. so activities went on as usual.  Sunday was a great day for any kind of activities. This week also to be in the 80’s and 90’s with some rain developing.  We will see if that happens.  I’d like no rain and a little cooler temperatures, but Mother Nature will do what she will do.

Congratulations to Mike and Becky Stavisky, Jupiter, FL, on the birth of their second baby, a son, Ethan Leo, on June 28th.  Grandparents are Alex and Ginny Stavisky, Palm Bay, FL, and Lopez.   He joins a brother, Austin, at home.  All are doing well.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 732-221-2803 or 440-645-9719 to order.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Sophie Bednar who passed away on the 2nd.  Funeral was held on Tuesday at SS Peter and Paul Byzantine Church, Endicott, NY, with burial in SS Peter and Paul Byzantine Cemetery, Lopez on Wednesday.

Sympathy also to the family, relatives and friends of Emily Benjamin who passed away on the 6th.  Her funeral will be held on Saturday, the 13th, followed by a dinner at the Lopez Pavilion.

Next Civic meeting will be Wednesday, the 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Old Home Day plans will be finalized.  Volunteers are needed.  If you can help, please do.   Contact Jodi Brumwell or Kathy Isett on Face Book to let them know what you might be willing to do.

Happy Birthday to Dan Stasiak, 11th; Woody Woodford and Averie Bahr, 13th; and David Black, 14th.  Have a fantastic day.

Happy Anniversary to David and Lavonne Black, 14th and also to Matt and Sherill Dayton, same day.  Congratulations and have a happy day.

Mix 1/4 cups of Epsom salts with 2 cups of water and place in a spray bottle.  Spray the mixture around your home and garden to safely deter insects without the use of chemical insecticides.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for any up-coming events that you may be interested in.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  It’s gonna be a good one.  Stay cool; stay hydrated.  Have news, give me a call at 928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.   I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had some pretty warm weather (80’s+) during the week and some rain.  Saturday was rainy, but don’t think it dampened anyone’s plans.  Sunday was really nice.  Nice week for activities going on around the County.  Also, good for swimming, quad riding, hiking and just being out.  Hope the week will be good too

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803 to order.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Took advantage of the nice days and got a lot of work done while they were here.  Something they hadn’t planned to do was cut up a huge branch from a maple tree that came down during Monday’s storm.  It went right across the road to their house, so had to be cut and moved.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, is spending some time over the 4th of July holiday with his Dad, Uncle “:B”, Nina, and us.  Nice time while he was here.

A compress made with Epsom salts is a great way to treat mosquito bites, bee stings and poison ivy.  Mix 2 Tablespoons of salts with one cup of warm water.  Soak a clean cloth in the mixture and hold on affected area to removed pain, burning and itching.

Next Civic meeting will be Wednesday, July 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Old Home Day plans to be worked out.

Happy Birthday to Brandan McCobin, 4th; Brayson Siddle, 5th; Bill Stasiak and Bryson Charles, 6th; Patty Johnson, 9th; and Samantha Burke, 10th.  hope you all have a super day.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Heather McDonald and Jeffrey and Kristin (McDonald) Mensch as they both celebrate on the 7th.   Have a great day and many more!

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what’s going on around the County.  I’m sure you’ll find something of interest.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, whatever you might be doing.  If it’s terrible hot, stay hydrated and out of the sun, if possible.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; USPS snail mail; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Jim and Joe Caccia were in the area and stopped in to visit and pick up the 2024 mug.

Lopez, PA Posted on June 26, 2024 by Bob McGuireJuly 15, 2024

Well, we sure had some hot temperatures during the last week.  80’s and a couple 90’s too.  Had a down pour Friday night, rain Saturday and Sunday off and on.  We were spared, but some places really got hit with high winds, rain and lots of damage.  During the week, was good pool weather.  The gardens and flowers really needed watering frequently so as not to dry out too much.  Even with the rain, the sun would come out and get very hot.  Maybe it will cool off during the week.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month at the Church Hall.  Can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 732-221-2803 or 440-645-9719.

Don’t have a whole lot of news. I guess a lot of folks are staying indoors to beat the heat.  Hope everyone is well.

4-H Model Rocketry will meet on July 8th, 15th; 22nd; and 29th, 3 p.m. at the Extension Office in Dushore.  New members welcome.  Questions, call Bob at the number below or Sandy at the Extension Office.

Put a dryer sheet in your pocket to keep mosquitoes away.  Wonder if that works for gnats as well.  They are pesky little buggers.

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper.  The pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.  Hope these couple of hints work for you.

There will be things going on around the County, so keep watch of the Sully and Face Book to see what, where and when.  Something may be of interest to you.  Seems a lot of Farmer’s Markets are opening to sell their produce to all who are interested.

I guess that’s it for now.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  i will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.  Comments always welcome.

Hope you all enjoyed your Father’s Day weekend.  Had some rain on Friday, but Saturday and Sunday were perfect for activities  going on in the County.

I heard we are to have some really hot weather for the week, but it changes so fast, so we will see what we get.  Hopefully, summer weather.

4-H Model Rocketry will meet July 8th; 15th; 22nd; and 29th at 3 p.m. at the Extension Office in Dushore.  New members welcome.  Questions, call Bob at the number below or Sandy at the Extension Office.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  You can pick them up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803 to order.

Volunteers are need for Old Home Day, Saturday, August 3rd.  If you can be of any help, please call Jodi at 971-5002.  Every little bit of help works to make a successful day.

If you would like to donate a basket for Old Home Day, please call Rose at 732-221-2803 and let her know.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in Allentown with her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski.  They celebrated Nina’s birthday and her Dad’s Father’s day.  They came home Sunday and Brian had a cook-out at his place for Father’s Day for his Dad, Bob, and his brother, JR.  Nice time for all.

Happy Birthday wishes to Dana Dempsey, 20th; Jack Caccia, 22nd; Jean Woodford and Jodi Brumwell, both on the 24th.  Hope you all have a good day.

Recipe for 3 ingredient weed killer.  1 gallon of white vinegar, 2 cups of Epsom Salts or table salt; 1/4 cup dishwashing  soap.  Pour all into a large spray bottle.  Shake until combined.  Let settle for a few minutes.  Spray the weeds in the afternoon when weeds are not damp, on a sunny day.  Let sit for a day; then come back and check for dead weeds.

Still many things will be going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see if there is something of interest for you.

I see some pools are filled and hopefully some swimming can be done next week with the warmer temperatures.  Gardens and flowers are looking good.

I guess that’s it.  Hope everyone is well and not bothered with cold and flu.  I know there are lots with allergies so lots of sneezing and stuffy noses.  Feel better soon.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans may be.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Mike Walsh, Mike Keaney, and Matt Schifano all from West Pittston area, came to Lopez to pick up their final addition to the 24 year Lopez Commemorative Mug Collection. It was a great run. Some folks managed to collect the whole set and some only collected several. thank you to all of you that participated as it helped pay for the lopezpa.com website.

Lopez, PA Posted on June 12, 2024 by Bob McGuireJune 12, 2024

We had some up and down weather for the week.  First part of the week was pretty nice.  Then a couple days of rain.  Saturday was a perfect day for our Lopez Community yard sales.  It was sunny and nice.  And……NO RAIN.   Thanks to Brian and Bob, Jr. for setting the yard sale up, advertising, making posters and signs to show where the sales were.  I think it all worked out well and all had a good sale day.  Mother Nature was really good to us.   Sunday started out with rain and very windy.  I hope the week will be much better.  From what I see, looks good, but it changes really fast.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a couple of days at their home here.  Always getting yard work done.  Her son and friend, Christine, also were here to help out.

St. Vladimir’s Church is selling pierogies the first and third Sunday of the month, at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, please call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Next Civic meeting will be the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Nina Weslowski and Sandy Kriel, both on the 14th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Bob and Lisa Burke as they celebrate on the 19th.  Enjoy your day and many more.

Flag Day is coming up on the 14th.  A good day to fly your flag, if you don’t every day.

Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, the 16th.  Hope everyone has a great day and gets to celebrate that special day.

Bob and I attended the Che-Hanna R&M club picnic on Sunday at the Jim King park in Athens.  Was sunny but quite windy.  Still had a good group and nice time.  Food was good and a fun dice game played.

4-H Model Rocketry is starting up on June 17th, 1 p.m. at the Extension Office.  If interested, give Bob McGuire a call at the number below or contact Sandy at the Office.

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in the microwave with a cup of water.  The increased moisture will keep them moist and help reheat faster.

There will still be things going on around the County, so keep an eye on Face Book and the Sully to find this out.  There’s always something of interest to everyone.  I see that gardens are being planted and the flowers are really so pretty.  So many different varieties and the colors are amazing.   Hopefully the animals will stay away so the flowers can be enjoyed and the gardens will have produce for the summer and winter.

Guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  Should be something interesting to get involved in.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on June 7, 2024 by Bob McGuireJune 7, 2024

Hope you all had a nice week.  It turned out nice for the Memorial Day parades, even with the rain for Mildred.  They moved theirs under the Pavilion behind the Legion, so all was good.  Thanks to Gerald Maloney for his excellent speech in Lopez.  It was very well attended.   Hope you got to attend at least one of the services to honor those for their sacrifice to keep us free.  Looks like we may be in for some rain during the week.  It changes daily so will just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.

Congratulations to the Lopez graduates, Bryson Charles, Charles Armioia, and Enrico Captiotti.  Good luck in your future endeavors.

This is the last week of school and kids will be home for the summer.  Please slow down when going through town.  You never know where the kids might be.  Just take a little more time.  Leave a little earlier.  Keep our kids safe.  There is no reason to be a speed demon.

I see the gardens are coming along and getting planted.  Hopefully, everyone will have lots of produce for the summer and winter.

Volunteers are need for Old Home Day, the first Saturday in August.  Can you spare some time to help out?  If interested, please call Jodi at 570- 971-5002.  Any help will be appreciated.

Happy Birthday to Lydia Stasiak, 5th; Lynn Malkemes, 8th; and Matt Dayton, 10th.  Have a nice day.

Saturday is the Lopez Community Yard Sale.  Hope to see you there.  Take a stroll, or ride, around town and see what kind of treasurers you may find.  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The humming birds are really taking advantage of the feeders.  Have seen them around all day long.  Did get to see a couple of deer in the field.  No turkeys so far.  Had a baby ground hog running around so watch your garden.  They like to get in there and destroy the plants.

Next Civic meeting will be on June 19th, 6 p.m., at the Pavilion.  Old Home Day plans in the making.  Hope you can make it.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may be doing.  I know with all the rain we’ve been having, lawns will need mowing.  Baskets and flower beds are looking so pretty.  Love all the colors.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Still some rainy weather out there, but Saturday and Sunday were perfect days for camping, quad riding, doing gardens and flower beds.  More rain is probably on the way, but we’ll take what we get.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day holiday.  Hope you got to at least one parade to honor those fallen who gave their all to keep us free.  Pray for those now serving our country that they come home safely and they are protecting us from harm.

Scott, Susan and Adam Aharonian, Narvon and West Chester, spent a few days at their home on Dutch Mountain.  Had an enjoyable time and got a lot of work done while they were here.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg and her grandson, Richie and his fiance and their two dogs, DE, spent some time at their home here.  Did a lot of yard work.  With so much rain, the grass grew quite a bit.

I see quite a few were in over the Holiday weekend at Tent City.  Always have a nice time while they are here and get a lot of things done too.

Happy Birthday to Nick DeSanto, 29th and Bruno Day, 31st.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Jack and Joyce Walsh, 29th.  Enjoy your day.

Tyler McGuire and his friend Jubis, enjoyed hiking at Rickets Glen State Park on Saturday.  Was a fun day.

In my walks, I see some beautiful hanging baskets and potted flowers around town and gardens are being tilled, getting ready for planting soon.  I don’t see as many humming birds as we usually do.  Haven’t seen deer or turkey for quite some time.

Here’s a recipe for ant killer you can try:  1 empty water bottle, cut down to 2 inches tall; 5 TBSP baking soda; 5 TBSP powdered sugar; and 3 TBSP water.  Mix until combined.  Place small amounts against the wall or where you see ants but don’t typically walk.  Will eat it and die and take some back to the nest too.  Can’t separate the baking soda from the powered sugar.  Must use powdered sugar to have this work.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, even if you have to use your umbrella.  It’s still a great time to be alive.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, we made it through another week with some nice days and some rainy days.  Sunday was a really nice day with lots of sun and warm temperatures.  We really don’t need any more rain.  Someone said FL needs the rain.  The grass doesn’t even grown since it hasn’t rained for a while.  Haven’t seen as many humming birds as normal.  I finally did see a couple deer in the Church yard and one lone ground hog.  Haven’t seen turkeys and I don’t think the hunters up this way have either.

Happy Birthday to Janet Weidner, 22nd; Susan Aharonian, 24th; and Tanya Nitznski, 25th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Diane Fanning as they celebrate on the 28th.  Enjoy your day.

Seems like there’s more activity going on the the County now, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see if something may interest you.  There’s flea markets and yard sales, ice cream places with miniature golf opening; good food at local restaurants and always a sale at some store.  Shop local and support these small businesses.  They will thank you and you’ll be glad too.

Memorial Day is coming up soon.  Hope you get to attend one or all of the services around the County.  Check the Sully for dates and times of services.

For sunburn treatment, an Epsom salt bath is a great way to soothe irritated skin from sunburn  Mix 1 cup of salts in warm bath water.  Mix to combine and soak in the bath for 10-15 minutes.

Saturday, June 8th is the Lopez Community yard sale.  Check out the homes that have items for sale.  It’s from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  See what kind of treasure you might find to take home with you.

I see some are getting their gardens dug and ready for planting.  The flower beds and hanging baskets are really pretty.  The lilac bushes, both white and purple are so nice and smell so good.  Hopefully it will be a nice growing season and everyone will have lots of produce for summer eating and even freeze or can some for the winter.  I still have grated zucchini from last year in the freezer.  Made a couple loaves of bread the other day.   Always nice to have in the freezer in case someone stops by.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you plan to do.  I’m sure it’ll be interesting.  May get some rain again on Thursday, but “it is what it is”.  Gotta take it.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Weather is so unpredictable.  It’s cold; it’s hot; it’s windy; it’s rainy.  Never know what it’s going to do from day to day.  I heard rain again for most of this week.  We’ll see what Mother Nature has in store for us.  We did have humming birds right after Bob put the feeder up.  I like watching those pretty birds just flitting around.  I did see one lonesome doe over the hill out back.  Haven’t seen turkeys at all.  We do have our chipmunk back, I think, from last year.

Congratulations to Eric and Katherine Kapler on the birth of their baby boy, William Wayne Kapler on the 7th.  All are doing well.  He joins two sisters, Erica and Kalynn at home.

We just returned from our grandson, Tyler’s graduation from Rochester Institute of Technology. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Software Engineering and a BS in Economics. The hall was huge with thousands of spectators and some of those super large jumbo screens so people could see what was happening on stage.   Bob managed to grab a shot off one of the screens, cause we couldn’t see the stage. CONGRATULATIONS TYLER. He has accepted a Software Engineering position with Lockheed Martin in Liverpool, NY.  Also attending graduation ceremonies was Tyler’s Dad, Bob, Jr. and Marcia Pedro, and his Uncle “B” and Nina Weslowski.  Was a nice time for all.

Happy Birthday to Cory McDonald and Deacon Burke, 15th; Ariella Siddle, 18th; and Marian Hubiak, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Tim and Bobbi Jo Brown as they celebrate on the 21st.  Enjoy your day.

Congratulations to Alyssa Pequignot who graduated from Lock Haven with her second Bachelor’s degree for teaching.  She is the daughter of Kevin Pequignot and Christine Bryan; and granddaughter of Irene (Huray) Pequignot.  She lives in Williamsport with her son, Brayson and daughter, Ariella.

Did you know if you store your chunks of cheese in aluminum foil, it will last longer and not mold.  I did not know this so will give it a try.

I know there were probably other locals out there who graduated from college.  Congratulations and good luck in your future.

Remember, the next Civic meeting will be on the 22nd, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  It’s a change in date.

Irene Pequignot spent a day at her home here last week getting some yard work done.

I hear there is still a lot of sickness going around, so hope most are being missed.  If you do get one of the “bugs”, I hope you’re much better soon.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your day, even if it’s rainy.  It’ll still be a great day.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me around; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on May 9, 2024 by Bob McGuireMay 9, 2024

Had some nice days during the week, but was a rainy, windy, cold weekend.  I heard rain for most of the coming week, but that can change daily.  Humming birds are back, but I have not seen any so far.    The daffodils and tulips are looking so pretty but are almost done already.  Little bit cool yet to put out the hanging baskets.  Probably some frost still to come.  With all the rain, it’s even hard to dig the garden; gets too muddy.  Hopefully, soon, it can be done.

NOTICE – CHANGE IN DATE OF CIVIC MEETING:  The next Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 22nd, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Memorial Day is right around the corner.  If there are any Lopez kids who would like to march in the parade that Monday, the 27th, please meet at the Post Office at 9:45.  Dustin and Sam Burke will be there to get you lined up for the parade at 10 a.m.

Barbara Bell was walking her dog, Dixie, last Thursday and was sure she saw a mountain lion.  There were two others she talked to and they both said there is one in that area, so she didn’t think she was seeing things.  Be aware when out and about.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate on Sunday, the 12th.  Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Birthday to Diane Fanning, 9th; Elizabeth Spinosa, 10th; Xander Kapler and Kessler Gilbert, 12th; and Jase Lowden, Faith Williams and Les Isett, 14th.  Have a nice day.

Village of Lopez Community Yard Sale  will be held on Saturday, June 8th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Take a walk through town to see what’s for sale.  You might find something to “suit your fancy” and get to take it home.  Keep an eye on Face Book and the Sully for more information.   Hope to see you then.

You can also check Face Book and the Sully for events going on around the County.  Hopefully, with nicer weather, there will be lots more to see and do.  Many of the now birds who went to FL for the winter will be coming back.

Hardly seems possible in another month that school will be out and you’ll see all the kids out and about enjoying the summer.

I think that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week; may be nice; may not; enjoy anyway.  Just get out and be thankful for what we do have.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had 5 out of seven days with frost early in the morning.  It did warm up pretty nice.  Check Sam’s full weather report at another spot.  I did hear rain and no rain for the coming week.  Have to wait and see.  Hope Mother Nature will be good to us and give some nice, warm, sunny weather.  I see folks are starting to dig in the gardens and prepare the flower beds for planting.  Probably will be more frost so will wait until later to do that.  Someone said they don’t plant until Memorial Day.

The 2024 Lopez mugs have arrived.  This is the last mug to be produced.   Will be contacting those on the reserve list for pick up or shipping.  We do have a few extras, so if you’re interested, let me know.  They won’t last long.  Hope you enjoy whatever you collected.

Sympathy to the Frank Romania family on the passing of Cynthia on the 19th.  Services were held in Portsmouth, NH, with burial in Eliot, ME.   She will be missed by all who knew her.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent an enjoyable weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.  Weather was perfect.

Village of Lopez will be having a community yard sale on Saturday, June 8th, at 9 a.m.  Take a stroll through town and see what everyone has.  You may find a treasure or two to take home with you.  Check FB “Village of Lopez Yard Sale” for details and also the Sully.  Hope to see you then.

Congratulations to the following for making third period Honor Roll:

Distinguished Honor Roll:  Miles Baton; Mikalya Day; Kyleigh McDonald; Ruby Malkemes; Kaeleigh McDonald; Adiranna Capriotti; and Enrico Capriotti.  Honor Roll includes Izabella Capriotti; Bruno Day and Charles Armioia.    So proud of all of you.  Keep up the good work.

I hope you read the Shunk news, written by Eloise Caseman.  She has the funniest joke to end her news each week.  I do enjoy them.  (I hope you read and enjoy everyone’s news each week, along with everything else in the paper.)

Happy Birthday to Kyler and Paige Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th and Ted Lowden, 7th.  Have a nice day.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  What nice weather to get some Spring cleaning done around the house.

Keep an eye on the Sully and also Face Book to check out events going on around the County that you may be interested in.   I guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week; I think it will be pretty nice.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or email me at news@lopez.pa.com.   I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

The final LOPEZ COMMEMORATIVE MUG is here and ready for folks to get their reserved mug and we have a few extra for folks that might want one. It has been a 24 year run and it has come to an end. It has been fun and we highlighted some of the good old days of LOPEZ. Thank you to all that helped with this project starting with Alex. And now here is number 24.

Kind of a windy week again.  Did have a couple nice days.  Sunday was 22 degrees early with a good frost.  Hopefully the buds haven’t popped out yet and the trees and bushes will be ok.  It did warm up during the day.  Check Sam Burke’s weather report elsewhere in the paper for a full report.  Daffodils are in full bloom and so pretty.  Tulips are ready to pop so they will be nice also.   Haven’t seen many animals around, other than the birds we have at our feeders and they are cute to watch.  They sure can go through the food pretty fast.

Scott Sonon would like to wish his beautiful wife, Leni, a very Happy Birthday as she celebrates on the 24th.  Have a nice day

Happy Birthday wishes to Katherine Kapler, 25th; Mickey (Fedorchak) Mowery, 26th and David Spinosa, 28th.  Hope you all have a good day.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelettes rich, add a couple spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream and then beat them up.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  Something may spark your interest.  Hopefully some nice weather for outdoor activities.

Will soon be time to get the humming bird feeders out and ready to hang up.  Seems like they come earlier every year.

Folks are starting to think of gardens and flower beds and are beginning to prepare the soil and get their seeds and plants ordered.  Will probably be more frost, so there is still time.  I’ve heard that some have mowed lawn too.

Before we know it, the month of April will be over with.  Time goes by so quickly, so enjoy every minute of it.

Get well to anyone who may not be feeling quite up to par.  There is still a lot of stuff going around that’s making one sick.  We need warm, sunny days to make everyone feel better.

I guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week and hope it’s a good one.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-maill me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Kinda had a mixed bag of weather for the week again.  Had some sun, wind and a little rain.  Sunday was really nice early, then it got really dark, rained, thundered, and of course, wind.  Then, it quit and got really nice, sunny and warm and the temperature hit 69 degrees.   About 6 p.m. it got very dark, thunder, lightning windy and poured for about 15 minutes.  More showers coming during the week.  With all the rain, we should have a lot of flowers in May, according to that old saying.  There are daffodils and tulips out now, looking pretty nice.  Some folks are wanting to start doing garden work, but just too wet and muddy right now.  We have a lot of birds at our feeders and where we put seeds on the ground.  Even a ground hog has been seen there.  Haven’t seen deer or turkey for quite some time.  Grass isn’t very green just yet so not ready for mowing, but probably won’t be long.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in Allentown with her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski.

I guess the bear is still around.  Have seen garbage cans turned over and the contents pretty much strewn and the wind blows a lot of stuff around.  Hope he/she found something to their liking.   Will soon be time to get the humming bird feeders out and hopefully the bear will leave them alone.

If you’d like to donate to the Civic Association, you can do so by sending it to P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.  All donations are appreciated.

Happy Birthday to Pat Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, 17th; Roseanne Lukachik, 18th and Holly Sperry, 20th.  Have a nice day.

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs.  It’s cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth.  It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events in the County.  With the nice weather, there will be lots of things to see and do.  Something may be of interest to you.  There’s always Churches, restaurants, Legions, etc. that offer really good meals.  Check out the new store that opened where Dushore Market was.  I hear they have a variety of good things.

I guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week; hopefully it will be nice.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or email me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 10, 2024 by Bob McGuireApril 10, 2024

We sure had some miserable weather during the week.  Rain, snow, wind and just crazy conditions.  Sunday was a much better day with sunshine and 50+ degree.  It was windy, but the sun felt pretty good.   Did you feel the earthquake on Friday?  We didn’t, but heard that many did.   Did you get to see the eclipse on Monday?   Have to give a report next week if it was visible or not.  Hopefully we won’t get all that rain that is predicted for the week.  We need just warm, sunny, nice weather.   How did all you fishermen and women do the first day of trout season?  Water was pretty high and in places pretty muddy looking.

Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Hopefully will be nice enough to meet there.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski.  They celebrated Paula’s birthday while they were here.

Happy Birthday to Jaron Williams, 11th; John Risser, 12th and Joyce Walsh, 13th.  Hope you all have an enjoyable day.

Did you know if you seal an envelope and then remember you forgot to put something in the envelope, you can put it in the freezer for a couple hours and it will open easily.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things going on around the County.  There may be something you’d like to take part in or just visit somewhere.

The bear is around so keep watch.  He was seen on Factory Road and we had him in our yard.  He left his “calling card”.  At least we had taken the suet feeders in so he didn’t get them. He/she has been all over Lopez at one time or another.  Haven’t seen any turkeys or deer for quite some time.   We do have birds feeding on the seeds on the ground and  two bunny rabbits taking advantage too.  Didn’t know rabbits like bird seed, but they’re here every day getting their fill.

Well, that’s it for now.  Hope everyone is well.  I’ve been bothered with a cold for a few days, but getting better now.  I did hear there is “stuff” going around again.  Weather sure doesn’t help.  Enjoy your week, whatever it is you get involved in.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 3, 2024 by Bob McGuireApril 3, 2024

Hope you all had a Blessed Easter and enjoyed your weekend.  Weather wasn’t too bad.  Had a couple of 50+ days, but still a lot of windy days. Did have some rain on Saturday, but didn’t last long. Hopefully, some nicer weather is on the way.  I did hear maybe 1-3 inches of snow on Wednesday, but hope that’s wrong.

Cory McDonald, Jeffrey, Kristin (McDonald), Hailey, and Easton Mensch enjoyed Easter Sunday with Mike, Heather, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald.

Many friends attended a party on Saturday at the home of Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski to help Tim Higley celebrate his birthday, which was on the 1st.  Good food and a good time for all.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, April 17, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting.  Can only hope Mother Nature will cooperate and give us a good day.

I missed some birthdays last week.  So, Happy Belated Birthday to Irene Risser on the 28th; and Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey on the 30th.  Hope you all had a nice day.

Happy Birthday to V Rev Andrew Matychak on April 5th, and Shawn Pequignot, 6th.  Have a good day.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here.  Joining her on Sunday for Easter dinner were Shawn, Dylon and Misty Pequignot and Hunter Laird; Kevin Pequignot; Jennifer, Serenity and Alek Pequignot-Laird and friend, Shawn Buck; Elexus Dunkleberger; Sophie Bednar; and Mickey and Karen Bednar.  Nice time for all to be together.

If you store apples and potatoes together, it will prevent the potatoes from sprouting.   Also, you don’t have to keep your cucumbers in the fridge; they can be kept on the counter.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, enjoyed a few days at their home here and were able to get some spring clean up done too.

Keep your eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may be coming up that will interest you.  With the nicer weather, hopefully, on the way, we may start to see more folks coming to their summer homes and cabins to enjoy their time here.

Guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week, whatever it is you may do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Our weather sure has been crazy.  Up and down and all over.  Temperatures were pretty cold early mornings all week.   We had snow on Wednesday; rain and wind on Saturday made for a miserable day.  Sunday was much nicer.  When I asked if we’re done with snow, the remark was, “we have two more snow storms yet”.  Didn’t like that answer at all.  Hopefully, some nicer weather on the way.  Please talk to Mother Nature to have her give us some good weather.  I did hear a couple of days in the 50+ temperature range.  Sure hope that’s right.

Thank you to the George Wenner family, from Garnet Valley, PA, who gave a donation to the Civic Association in memory of Rosalie (“Aunt Dinky”) Burke.

The manger that the Civic Association uses every year for the outdoor Christmas display is no good any more.  Anyone wishing to donate to help with a new manger, send any donation to P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.

Put unpeeled garlic cloves in your rice container and mix it up.  Keeps the bugs out.

Congratulations to Kaeleigh McDonald and Ruby Malkemes who were both inducted in National Honor Society.

Next Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting.

Happy Easter to all!  Hope everyone has a Blessed day.

Happy Birthday to Irene Risser, 28th; Heather McDonald, 30th and Trevor Kinsey, also the 30th.  Birthday wishes to V Rev Andrew Matychak, 5 April.  Hope you all have a nice day.

B’s gang sends birthday wishes to Tim Higley who celebrates on the 1st of April, and that’s no April Fool’s joke.  Have a great day, Tim.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, enjoyed the weekend with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.  On Saturday, they went on a bus trip to New York City to see the 911 Memorial, which was very impressive.  They also enjoyed the Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral show and the Homeless Veterans fundraiser, held at the Dushore American Legion, both on Sunday.

Saw many Sullivan County folks at the Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral show, both on Saturday and Sunday.  Hope you all have a good time while you were there.

I think that’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week, especially if we get some warmer weather.  If not, enjoy it any way.  It’ll warm up soon.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 20, 2024 by Bob McGuireApril 2, 2024

Had a mish mash of weather the last week.  Monday we had 48.6 mph winds and cold.  Then a few days of warmth.  Tuesday it hit 59 degrees and nice.  Saturday we had a good frost but turned out warmer later in the day.  I think I saw some snow flurries on Sunday evening.   We are very lucky.  Down South they were hit with tornadoes with lots of damage and deaths.  Our prayers go out to all those down there that have been affected by the devastation.   I guess we are to get another week of on and off rain, snow showers, rain, snow showers.  You got it……rain and snow showers.

Thank you to Janet Sell, Macungie for her donation to the Lopez Civic Association.  It all helps to keep the Association going to help pay bills, have activities for the kids and keeping things running smoothly.  If you’d like to donate, please send it to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.  It’s all appreciated.

Did you know if you store your eggs upside down they will stay fresh longer?    Also, if you put a bay leaf in your bag of flour, it will help keep the bugs away.

Don’t forget.  This weekend is the 54th annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Gem Show.  Held on Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd and 24, at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company social hall.    Check Face Book for much more information about this event.

Also, on Sunday, the 24th, is the Veterans fundraiser at the Dushore American Legion.  Starts at Noon until 5 p.m.  Thank you to Sally Bender for arranging this benefit to help homeless Veterans.  All proceeds go to Our Orangeville Manor for homeless veterans  where they are well taken care of.  There will be music, basket raffles, 50/50 drawings, soup sales, bake sale, crafts.   For any questions, text Sally Bender at 570-406-3250 or PM on her Face Book page.   If you can help in any way, please do.

Happy Birthday to Aaron Kinsey, 21st.  Have a nice day.

Welcome to Endless Novelties & Tobacco that opened in the former Dushore Market building.  Good luck and great success..  They have ice cream, lottery tickets, skill games, gift items, candy and snacks, along with tobacco.  Stop in and see them.

Hope everyone is well and haven’t been bothered with the flu bug.  There is still something going around that hits people off and on.  If you’re one of them, I hope you feel better really soon.  Hopefully, we’ll have some nice weather that will stay and make everyone feel better.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Might be a little cold and snowy yet, but we have the rest of March to get through and I think we’ll be doing much better.  Just hope we don’t get hit with a big snow storm.  That would not be good at all.

Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.  Comments always welcome.

What a crazy weather week we had.  We had hot days and cold days.  Friday was a really nice, warm day.  Saturday was rain and cold all day.  Sunday we had WIND all day long and lots of snow showers, along with sun now and then.  Hopefully we’re in for some nicer weather soon.  Mother Nature can quit with that snowy stuff already.  The birds must have known it was stormy.  There sure were a lot of them at the feeders all day on Sunday.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and many friends of Dinky Burke who passed away on Tuesday, the 5th.  Her funeral was held on Saturday with burial in St. Vladimir’s cemetery.  She was such a wonderful person and will certainly be missed by all who knew her.

Civic Association meeting on Wednesday, the 20th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  If you’d like to know what the Civic Association is all about, plan to attend a meeting.  If you’d like to join the Association, contact Kathy Isett at 610-413-6439.

Mark your calendar for the fourth weekend of the month.  The Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club will hold their annual mineral show on the 23rd and 24th at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Hall.  Check Face Book for all the details.  Lots to see and do for everyone who goes.  Hope to see you there.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on the 17th.  You going to wear your green?  I imagine there will be a lot of green “stuff” around, along with the normal clothes type things.  Always a good time for all.

Easter is also right around the corner, being earlier this year.  There will be all kinds of Easter activities going on.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see when, where and what times.

Happy Birthday wishes to Bob McGuire, Sr. and Theresa Pochatko, 13th; Elizabeth Weisbrod, 14th; Kathy Isett, 15th; Gianna Mae DiRocco, 16th.  Have a nice day.

Brian McGuire and friends send birthday greeting to Steph Putnam, 17th;  Kristin (Putnam) Carter, 18th; and Lori Higley, 19th.  Have a great day.

Did you know if the dent in your plastic milk jug grows outward it means that the milk has accumulated too much gas and  is spoiled.  Never knew this so will have to keep watch.   Another good one is to take the green stems off of your carrots and emerge them in a pitcher of water.  They will last longer.  Can try that when you get the carrots from your garden this year.

We still have a few of the 2023 Lopez mugs left.  If interested, contact me at the info below.   The 2024 mugs will be here soon, I hope.  That will be the end of the set.  If interested in 2024, please let me know and I can put you on the reserve list.

I think that’s about it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Hope to see some sunshine and nicer weather.  Get out and take in the nice, fresh air.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 6, 2024 by Bob McGuireMarch 6, 2024

We really had some strange weather during the last week.  We had such a rain storm, with thunder and fog, on Wednesday.  It was a miserable day for sure.  Had a couple really cold mornings and a couple really warm afternoons.  Who knows what’s coming next.  Last I saw, it was rain showers almost all week.  The blue birds are back, checking out houses for the female to lay her eggs.  The geese have been flying North and the robins are back too.  I haven’t seem geese or robins, but got reports of them.  I did see blue birds at my son’s house on Sunday.

Excitement in Lopez early Saturday morning.  A Dollar General tractor trailer tried to make it up Church Street.  Decided he wasn’t going in the right direction, so proceeded to back down Church and onto Flat Street.  Had such a hard time.  Blocked Main Street and Church Street for some time until he got backed enough down Flat Street to make it back out of town.  Where he was headed, who knows, but GPS sure sent him in the wrong direction.  I imagine a lot of you saw it when it was posted on Face Book.   That was the excitement for the day.

Had a nice phone conversation with Carole Kilgus.  She, Kevin and Teri are doing well.  Weather is quite nice down there.  She keeps busy and gets to spend time with her great granddaughter.   She says to tell all of her Sullivan County friends Hello.

Don’t forget that Sunday is Spring forward and turn your clocks AHEAD one hour.  Usually do this on Saturday night before going to bed.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, 20 March, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here and did some Spring clean up around the yard.

Happy Birthday to Mcguire Martin, 1st; Linda Baton, 8th; Janelle Day, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally Rose Tierney, 10th; and Julian Bonner, 11th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Did you know if you put grapes in the freezer they last longer?  And, they are nice and crisp too.   Also, if you put a bay leaf in your flour, it will keep the bugs out.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to Lopez Old Home Day (the first Saturday in August) can mail a check to The Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.  Old Home Day proceeds are used for having the Halloween party for all children wishing to attend; for the Christmas party for the kids of Lopez; the mowing done of the parks, VFW and Cold Spring.  Money is also used to pay insurances, phone bill and light bills.   Any donation is greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  There may be something of interest for you.  Hopefully, with the nicer weather on the way, more folks will be out and about and coming to their summer homes.  Let’s hope Mother Nature will co-operate.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Seems like boots and umbrellas will be the order of the day, but supposed to be much warmer.  We shall see what we shall see.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail be at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Stay well.
