Hope you all had an enjoyable Labor Day holiday. Weather was pretty good for things going on in the County. We did have some rain on Wednesday, so didn’t make a very good day for the Fair. Guess we can expect some more rain, along with cooler temperatures. Gardens are winding down and also the flowers are starting to fade. Some I have talked to said their garden didn’t do too well this year. Too much rain and some blight hit some things. Guess we can hope for a better time next year. I did hear if you can’t freeze and can foods, it will be a mild winter. Hope that’s true. Our power was off, here by our house on Friday evening, from 7 p.m. until it was fixed at 2 a.m. on Saturday. Guess the transformer had a fit and quit working. The guy came, poked around a bit and then said he had to go back and get a new one, so that took some time. Finally got it on and at 3 a.m. Penelec called and said it was fixed.
Sympathy to Mary Lowden and family on the recent passing of her sister, Maggie Richie, in TN. She spent a lot of time in Lopez visiting and really enjoyed her time here.
Sympathy to Chris Shoemaker family and the Saxe families on the recent passing of Bill Saxe. He was a Dushore icon and will be missed.
There were a few “campers” down at Tent City over the Holiday. Good time for all of them while they were here. They liked the sales at the Flea Market.
Hope you were able to get to the Flea Market on Friday and Saturday at Nessie’s Pond. She watched over all that was going on. There were a lot of good items for sale and I think the ones that set up for the two days did really well. It’s a much better place to hold the sale. More traffic and so many stopped during those two days.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the Holiday here with their daughter, Nina Weslowski, and Brian McGuire. Really enjoyed setting up at the flea market and meeting new people.
Hope a lot of you were able to go to the Sullivan County Fair. Lots of things going on there with good food too.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month. This is from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall. Call 570-928-8909 to order yours. Folks were able to buy some at the Flea Market too.
Keep an eye on Face Book. There will be a post about a new, limited edition, Lopez swag that will be available soon.
Colder weather will be coming, so get your Lopez hoodies and sweat shirts. Call me and see if I have what you might want. Number at the bottom of my news. Hope to get the pictures, etc. on the website and FB soon.
Next Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 15th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Membership dues are due from September to December for the 2022 year. See Heather to get yours renewed or to join.
Happy Birthday to Emerson Brumwell, 10th; Alexia Vermiere, 13th. Have a nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Les and Kathy Isett, 10th; and Scott and Susan Aharonian, 14th. Enjoy.
Here is a good tip to get rid of wasps at your house. Mix, with a whisk, 2 cups apple cider vinegar, 2 cups water, 2 cups sugar, and 12 drops of dish soap. Put this in a pan outside and watch the wasps go for it. I haven’t tried it yet; let me know if you try it and it works.
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans may be. If you have news, call me at 570-928-9238; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
