What a nice weekend. I’ll take more, please. Heard the week is to be pretty hot, but that’s ok, after the cold and snow we had. Will be good pool weather. Will make the gardens grow. Did have a short burst of rain and thunder on Sunday afternoon, but didn’t last long at all.
Have to make a couple of corrections from last week’s paper. Lopez Old Home Day this year will be ONE day; SATURDAY, August 4th, from Noon to Midnight. There will be NO Sunday. Will have the same activities going on, starting with the CHICKEN DINNER at Noon. Lots of fun for everyone. Watch the Sully for the Old Home Day ad.
Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray. Sophie Bednar, Owego, NY, also spent a couple of days.
Fourth Period Honor Roll: Distinguished Honors – Kyler Burke and Aaron Kinsey. Honor Roll: Paige Burke and Jacob Williams. Congratulations. Job well done. Good job to all who made it to the next grade.
Safely back home to Lopez. Total miles 6281. Mechanical problems none. We did the whole Route 66 pathway from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. Then at the end of the Route 66 venture we turned south for San Clemente. It was approximately 150 miles of road we did not have planned to travel but it was important to me to visit the final resting place of a friend of mine. All three of my riding partners did not hesitate to make the ride on California highways to make it happen. Thank you Michael D. Cook, Bill Walton and Michael Edison. We split up in Nashville and On my return trip I stayed overnight in Knoxville with my sister-in-law Eileen Eggers Jerrolds and her husband (and my friend) Larry. I was treated like royalty there and appreciated the quality visit. On Saturday I rode the ten hours non-stop from Knoxville to Berlin NJ to be with my son, daughter-in-law and GRANDSON Jase. I spent fathers day there with them and headed back to Lopez first thing this morning.
In addition to no break downs I had zero rain days not even a spritzing. Thanks to my lovely wife Mary Eggers Lowden and the other folks who supported me on this adventure. It’s a big country out there.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order call 570-928-1099.
Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, spent Wednesday to Sunday with us and also with Uncle “B”. Had an enjoyable time. Got to have pool time with Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald and played some soccer with them. Went kayaking with Uncle “B”. Got some running in to get in shape for the up-coming soccer season at Lake-Lehman High School. Congratulations to him for making the President’s List for the fourth period. He ranks third in his class of 139. Very proud of his accomplishments.
Happy Birthday wishes to Mary Kravetz, Don Springer and Stacey Olsen, July 2nd; and Brandan McCobin, 4th.
Happy Anniversary to Kurt and Linda (Popso) Schroeder as they celebrate on the 3rd. Have a good day.
Alena Grozav, from Moldova, currently living in Germany, visited Lopezfor four days as a guest of Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, at their home on Church Street. During her visit she enjoyed walking in the creek and also visiting Lake Jean. She saw bear, deer, turkey and chipmunks. Also saw something few people get to see….. a mother bear under a tree nursing her two babies. WOW!! She also took bike rides with Joe; went to Dushore and, of course, visited Jolly Trolley. Enjoyed the mountains and forests so much she can’t wait to come back.
B’s gang sends Birthday greetings to Chris Darrow as his special day is the 2nd.
HINT: Weed-be-Gone: 1 Gallon vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salt, 1/4 cup original Blue Dawn dish detergent. Mix it up and spray on anything you want to kill. Do this early in the morning when the dew has evaporated. Go back after dinner and it’s all gone. Never buy Round-Up gain.” (I’m going to try this and see if it really works.)
Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, July 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. We are planning a work bee to clean the Pavilion before Old Home Day. We need volunteers, so I’ll be in touch when we get a firm date. If you might be available, please give me a call. We can use the help.
Guess that’s about it for now. Keep an eye on the Sully for events happening around the County. Enjoy your week; it’s going to be great. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
Bridge work still progressing very well. Concrete poured for the north parapet and the road surface is curing.
