Good grief!!! As to the weather, what can I say except we sure had some torrential down pours for about five days straight. Basements flooded; roads flooded and were closed, mud slides and some roads washed away. Sunday was an exceptionally nice day and hope we will get lots more of them.
Don’t forget……………..SATURDAY, the 4th, is the day. Lopez Old Home Day, Noon to Midnight. Chicken dinner is back; lots of good food, games, hay rides, dunk tank, bingo, raffles and Country Store. Music by the Gypsys, 2-5 p.m. DJ “B” from 9 p.m. to midnight. Awesome fireworks.
I’d like to shout out a special Thank You to the great group of volunteers who gathered on Saturday to clean the pavilions and grounds to get ready for Old Home Day. That included Molly and Clair; Dave and Ruth; Vito and Pat; Brian; Heather, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh; and Nina. Good job done by all in record time.
Marc and Lisa Fenster, grand daughters, Lily and Eve Lopez; and Marc and Tatiana Fenster, all from Philly, spent some time at their home on Church Street. The girls enjoyed playing with Kaeleigh and Kyleigh and going swimming and biking.
SS Peter and Paul Byzantine Church had services on Sunday afternoon. The Priest blessed the new dome and cross that has been erected; looks really nice.
I have something I’d like to pass along to anyone driving on Church Street. Very shortly we will have 12 kids, yes 12 kids, living on Church Street. They like to bike ride, scooter ride, color the road with chalk and do summer things. Please be aware and drive slowly. It’s not Route 66 and it could avoid an accident. So, please SLOW DOWN when traveling that street. There is a sign at the top of the hill that says, “Watch Children”, but I don’t think it’s paid attention to.
Happy Birthday wishes to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherill Dayton, both on August 4th; Kyle Froese and Kathy Lebo, 9th; Randy Lebo, Jackie Craig and Mary Lowden, 10th. Hope you all have a nice day.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order, please call 570-928-1099.
Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray, on Sunday. Also, Sophie Bednar, Owego, NY, is spending a few days there.
HINT: “Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season. It will repel them. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner for a nice smell.”
There are many more things going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully to see what might interest you.
Tent City is starting to fill up for their annual get-together. There will be many campers, tents and trailers filling the fields and lots of adults, kids and pets for all to enjoy their time here.
Sympathy from the community to Eleanor Grandinetti on the recent passing of her son.
Guess that’s it for now. Enjoy your week; may need the umbrella and slicker, but it will be quite warm. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.
Bridge work continues in spite on poor weather. Looking good guys.
