Lopez, PA Posted on September 12, 2021 by Bob McGuireSeptember 12, 2021

We had some really hot and humid days, but better than snow and cold, which will be here before we know it.  And, South, where Hurricane Ida made landfall, those folks have it much worse than we do.  They have no homes, people are missing and there are many deaths.  So, we are very lucky to have the nice weather we do have.

Don’t forget, this Friday and Saturday, the 3rd and 4th, is the Community Yard Sale at the pond, by Nessie, who will be watching what goes on,  This will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.   Brink your own tables, tent, etc. and see if you can make a couple of bucks selling things you no longer need or want.  There’s always someone looking for a good deal.  Hope to see you there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month, at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 570-928-8909 to order yours.

The gardens seem to be producing well and the flowers are still looking quite nice.  With all the rain that we had, the grass doesn’t seem to have any problem growing.  Mowing was a chore last week, and we had so much to rake.  It does seem to be cooling off a bit.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, September 15th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.   Memberships for the 2022 year will be due from then until December 2021.   For only a buck you can be a member and maybe support your community.

Not much news to report.  Just don’t see people around much at all.  With  this new strain of virus, I guess most are pretty much keeping to home and not doing a whole lot of extra things,

The Sullivan County Fair starts on September 1st until the 5th, so that’s something you may be interested in.  Lots of food, rides, displays, all kinds of things that may “peak” your interest.

Happy Birthday wishes to Chase Brumwell, September 2nd; Kristin (McDonald) Mensch, 5th; Roda Stasiak, 6th; and Miles Baton, 8th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week; should be fairly nice.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Best to have it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 29, 2021 by Bob McGuireAugust 29, 2021

Had some rainy weather and then the wicked storm hit on Wednesday.  From what I heard, it poured, wind blew and was just horrible.  We were gone, so missed it this time.  Hopefully, nice weather for the week, but I did hear more thunderstorms possible.  Guess we just have to put up with what we get.

There will be a Community Yard Sale on Friday and Saturday, September 3rd and 4th, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nessie’s pond in Lopez.  Must bring your own tables, chairs, tents, etc.  Bring a blanket and put your items on the ground.  Whatever works for you.  Call Brian at 570-954-6319 to get your space.  Any donation to the Lopez Civic Association will be appreciated.   Let’s hope no rain.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They will be available for pick up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  Call 570-928-8909 to order yours.

Bob and I spent a few days with family in Richmondville, NY.  Many family members were there to attend the Memorial service for my sister, Margi Decatur, who recently lost her battle with cancer.  Was sad, but a nice celebration of her life.  All I can say is, “CANCER SUCKS”!!

TJ, Allison, and Jase Lowden, along with Wesson, Marlton, NJ, spent some vacation time at their home on Church Street.  Was good weather most of the time while they were here.  They also visited back and forth with his parents, Ted and Mary, who live on Maple Terrace, just across the back yard from them.

I see folks are gathering produce from their gardens  Time to enjoy those BLT’s and do some canning and freezing.

After spending the summer with his Dad, Bob McGuire, Jr., and family, Tyler McGuire has gone back to RIT in Rochester, New York, to continue his studies in Software Engineering.  Good luck and have a great semester.

Happy Birthday to Karly Amon, 26th; and Gaige Burke, 29th.  Have a happy day.

Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke as they celebrate on the 26th.  Have a nice day.

I made a goof in the 11th August news.  I had Happy Birthday to Kevin Partington.  It should have read Kevin Pequignot.  I didn’t notice it and Kevin P. called to tell me about it.  Sorry for the mistake.

Kids started school on Monday, the 23rd.  Good luck to all and hope they have a great year.  Good luck to anyone else who has gone back to college or trade school.  Summer has gone by so fast.

Since we were gone, I didn’t know who was around, so if you’d like news in my column, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening..  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Sure hope the new Covid doesn’t make its way to Sullivan County.  Stay well; stay safe.

NOTICE, We are trying something new. Go to “I REMEMBER” on this site and check out Olga’s audio interview. Let me know what you think at uvbob1942@gmail.com

Lopez, PA Posted on August 21, 2021 by Bob McGuireAugust 29, 2021

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the nice weather.  Sullivan County did have a doozy of a storm on Wednesday.  I never saw such rain, wind, lightning and heard thunder rumble

like it did.  Was wicked.  We were lucky.  Our power in Lopez was off for only two hours. Other places in Sullivan County and Bradford County were without power for quite a few days.  There was talk of a tornado going through the southern end of the County.   The weekend turned out pretty nice.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 25th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Important things to be discussed.  Hope to see you there.  Note date change.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale   To order, please call 570-928-8909.   They are available at the Church Hall the first and third Sunday of the month from Noon to 1 p.m.

Don’t forget on Tuesdays, trap shoot at 6 p.m. at White Ash.  Open to the public.  Try your hand at shooting or just go and watch and have one of Nina’s scrumptious hamburgs.

There are still some things going on in the County, so watch the Sully for dates and places.  Don’t forget to also support the local businesses.    They still need your help to survive this

stupid pandemic.  Lets just hope no one goes into lock down again with all the stipulations and masks and social distancing.  Had enough of that already.  Just hope it goes away and stays away.

Happy birthday wishes to Andrew Froese, 20th; and Mary (Maximiek) Santiago, 21st.  Have a nice day.

Gardens seem to be doing well and flower beds and hanging baskets are also.  Someone mentioned that the blueberries are going to be ripe on the bushes very soon.   Sounds good to me.

I got my order for the Lopez swag and now have no hood sweatshirts in grey, green and black.  Also, have the regular t-shirts in green and black and hoodies in green and black.

These all have the full front with the deer with ear muffs.  If interested let me know and I can help you out.  We still have a few koozies left and everything sells pretty fast, so don’t miss out on your Lopez swag.  Info at the bottom of my news.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot  came up Saturday  for her class of 1969 picnic at Connells Dam. Was a pot luck picnic. We had 19 people in attendance. Played a funny game. Good friends, good food, weather, and good time. Hope to see all next year and more. She also met up with granddaughter Elexus Dunkleberger and her other grandmother, Joan, in Dushore and watched the outhouse races

We only have three past Lopez mugs of the EUB Church left and one mug of Jackson Hotel.  If interested, contact Bob at the number below.   2021 mugs due in in September.

I think that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Last I heard it’s to be pretty rainy, but that can change.  Don’t need a lot of thunderstorms right now.  Need nice, summer weather.  Have news, give me at call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Get it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Here are some of our visitors.

Hope you all had a good weekend.  The weather was really nice for whatever you wanted to do.  I hear it’s to be hot and humid again this week.  See what happens and take what we get.

I want to clarify something in last week’s column that was brought to my attention.  It was to say we are looking for volunteers for Old Home Day, the first Saturday in August 2022.  I failed to mention the year and had some folks confused.  Sorry about that.  I’ve had a couple of calls letting me know they will help.  If interested, let me know.  We need people to chair different things, people to help man the booths and just help get ready for the day.  Hopefully, we can have a good Old Home Day, 2022.

Bob McGuire, aka UVBOB, did a fluorescent mineral presentation

on July 6th at DeWire Center in Eagles Mere for the EM Conservancy.

Nice group of kids and adults who enjoyed the program and asked lots

of questions.  They watched “ugly” rocks “glow” when shown with the

ultraviolet light.  Thank you Debbie Geist for the invitation to do

my program.   Check their website to see all that’s going on at

DeWire Center for the summer.  Some things you might

be interested in.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third

Sunday of the month, at the Church Hall.  Call 570-928-8909 to

order yours.

Check the Sully for activities going on around the County to

see if there’s something you’d be interested in.  Check Face Book

for the weekly menu for American Legion Post 996, Dushore.

Don’t forget Trap Shoot is every Tuesday, 6 p.m. at White Ash.

Public invited.  Go and shoot, eat some “good” burgers, made by

Miss Nina and enjoy visiting.

Civic meeting, 25th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Note date change.

Seems the gardens are doing quite well.  Flowers all over town

are looking pretty too.

Happy Birthday wishes to Dustin Burke, 15th; Kevin Partington,

16th; and TJ Lowden, 17th.  Have a good day to all.

Happy Anniversary to Bill and Bonnie Killian as they celebrate

on the 16th.

Hope you have a good week, whatever you might do.  Enjoy.

Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or

e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com., by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

I will put your news in.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

days.  The next week is to be fair, from what I’ve been hearing.  Hope so.

RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN during the week, with lots of thunder and lightning.

Made it hard to do yard and garden work.  Saturday was perfect weather for the

White Ash picnic as the rain held off until the picnic was pretty much over.  Not

so nice for Sunday when we attended our Che-Hanna R&M picnic, held at

Saterlee Creek Park.  It was cold, windy and rainy most of the day.  We still

had a nice crowd.  Food was good, visiting was nice and games were fun.

Hopefully this week will be much better.

St. Vladimir’s ethnic food community picnic will be held on Sunday, August

1st, at the Church Hall from Noon to 4 p.m.  See posters all over and Face Book

announcements.  They also have pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of

the month at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 570-928-8909 to order

yours.

TJ, Alison, and Jase Lowden, along with Wesson, Marlton, NJ, spent a few days

at their home here.  They also visited his parents, Ted and Mary on Maple

Terrace.

Happy Birthday to Matthew Santarelli, 17th; Adam Aharonian, 18th; Evalyn

Lansberry and Sr. Ella Mae McDonald, 20th; Matt Beaver, 21st; Dominic

Sneidar, 24th; JanMarie Manuel, 25th; Marino Santarelli and Carole Kilgus,

28th; Madison Burke, 29th; and Casey Bonardi, 30th.  Have a nice day.

B’s Gang wishes a Happy Birthday to Billy Stasiak on the 23rd.  Hope it’s

a good day.

Here’s something to keep in mind when bitten by mosquitos:  Spray the

area with peroxide to open site mark.  Dip finger in Vicks (only), the in salt,

the more the better.  Rub area vigorously.  Will help heal the bite and there

will be no itching.  “They” say this works.  Try it and see what you think.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Should get some nice weather,

along with more rain.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me;

see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com., by 6 p.m.

on Sunday evening.  I will get it in for you.   Thanks for reading and

Lopez, PA Posted on July 15, 2021 by Bob McGuireJuly 15, 2021

Quite a rainy week.  Had a couple hot days.  Looks like rain almost all this week too.  Guess that’s better than snow.  The grass will grow and we’ll need a couple of goats to take care of it.  The water table will raise and the gardens will get a nice drink.

On Wednesday, Julick (Gulick) Carlesco, Syracuse, NY, Rod and Mary Smith, Lancaster County and Andrea (Matychak) Anderson and Vince Carbone, Cornwall, PA, gathered with Mother Christophora at St. Nicholas House on Church Street to enjoy a visit to the Gulick family homestead, taking time to reminisce about many family gatherings during the past decade and memories of family members who have gone to eternal rest.  They enjoyed sharing a meal together and a walk down “Memory Lane”.  Also stopping for a visit was Sally Coleman and son, Matthew, of Bucks County.  The weather was perfect.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Was a little rainy and wet to get much yard work done, but they managed.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale, the first and third Sunday of the month.  Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  Order yours by calling 570-928-8909.

Civic meeting on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Quinn Vinetelli, 12th; Woody Woodford and Averie Bahr, 13th; David Black; 14th; Matthew Santarelli, 17th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to David and Lavonne Black as they celebrate on the 14th.  Also, anniversary wishes to Matt and Sherill Dayton on the same day.  Congratulations.

I had a surprise visit the other day from a young lady who lived in Lopez some time ago.  Jill Black (McWilliams), her daughter, Christina and husband, and her two grandsons rode around Lopez and their old homestead.  They were on their way to visit Brent McWilliams and family down in Benton.  Was nice to see her.  It’s been a long time. I think that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  May need the boots and umbrella, but that’s ok.  The humming birds are sure enjoying the rain and spending time at the feeder.  Saw a doe and her fawn the other day under the apple tree enjoying some lunch.  The fox is around, but haven’t seen it lately, but has been leaving his “calling card”.   Haven’t had the bear here, but Tim Brown has been getting some good trail cam pictures.  I guess he likes it up there best, but that’s fine with me.   Have news, call me, before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 9, 2021 by Bob McGuireJuly 9, 2021

Hope you all enjoyed your Fourth of July weekend.  We had some really heavy rain on Thursday and again early Saturday and there was a lot of thunder and lightning.  It did turn out nice late Saturday for gatherings and picnics.  Sunday was a really nice day for places that held picnics and fireworks.   Some rain expected during the week, but warm again.

Sympathy to Heather McDonald and family on the passing of her brother-in-law, Jason Brown, on June 27th, due to a tragic truck accident in Bradford County.

Sympathy also to Sam Burke and family on the passing of her grandmother on July 1st.

It saddens me to report the death of Molly Johnson on the 3rd of July.  She was such a dear friend to all who knew her.  Funeral was held on Tuesday, the 6th, from Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.  She will certainly be missed.

Tom, Kristin, Tai and Luke Iwancio, Harrisburg, and Rev Mother Christophora, Ellwood City, spent the long weekend at St. Nicholas House on Church Street.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the long weekend with their daughter, Tina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.  Got some camping time in, despite the rainy weather.

Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Brayson Thomas Lee Siddle who was one year old on the 5th.  He is the son of Alyssa Pequignot, grandson of Kevin Pequignot and great grandson of Irene (Huray) Pequignot.  Hope he had a great day.

Happy Birthday wishes to Bryson Brumwell, 6th; Samantha Burke, 10th; and Dan Stasiak, 11th.  Have a nice day.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Bill Stasiak on the 6th.  Hope it was great.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Heather McDonald on the 7th.  Also, to Jeffrey and Kristin (McDonald) Mensch as they celebrate on the same day.  Enjoy your day.

There was some activity at Tent City over the Holiday weekend as some of the places were occupied and we enjoyed the fireworks.

Gardens are doing quite well from the rain we got.  Hopefully they will give lots of produce to enjoy.  Flowers are looking good.   I have a spot where mint is growing like crazy.  I’ve been drying it and giving it to family to use.  Seems this is the best year and just keeps going.

I think that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  It’s going to be a nice one.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Please send it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had a pretty good week.  Had some really warm days.  Had some rain on Monday, late afternoon.  Saturday and Sunday were HOT!!  Guess we can put up with that.  Better than cold and snow.

Adel came in from West Chester to enjoy a few days at her home on Church Street.  Her friend was also here.

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2021.  Sorry I forgot to mention this earlier.  Good luck to our Lopez 2021 graduates Kyler and Paige Burke, Joe Malkemes and Karson Musani.

4-H Model Rocketry has started.  All are welcome.   If you are interested in joining, contact the 4-H Office or Leader, Bob McGuire at 570-928-9238.

Next Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, 21 July, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

I have heard and seen on the news that masks will no longer have to been worn as of June 28th.

Gardens are coming along really well.  Flower beds and hanging baskets are looking good.

The bear(s) are still around.  Saw a picture of one on FB up a tree, with the smaller one farther up the tree.  They are always looking for something and doing damage one way or another.

Fourth of July Holiday is coming up.  Lots of picnics and family gatherings will probably take place.  Enjoy, but please be careful if you are doing any fire works.

Ted Lowden, Maple Terrace, has returned from a fishing trip to Alaska with three of his friends.  They all caught a lot of fish and had them shipped home.  I followed his trip as they posted on Face Book.  Interesting time and also entertaining.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Don Springer and Stacey Olsen, July 2nd; and Brandan McCobin, 4th.  Have a sparkling day.

Happy Anniversary to Kurt and Linda (Popso) Schroeder as they celebrate on the 3rd.  Many more ahead.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Chris Darrow on the 2nd.  Hope you have a great day.

Check the Sully for events happening over the weekend.  Might be something you’d be interested in.

Enjoy your week.  I did hear we may be in for some rainy days, but that’s ok.  Will give the ground a nice drink.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I will get it in for you.   I’ll be here next time.

AGAIN THE REASON THERE IS NO OLD HOME DAY THIS YEAR, IS THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE TO HELP PUT ON OLD HOME DAY. HERE IS ANOTHER GUY THAT WAS A GREAT HELP IN PUTTING ON OLD HOME DAY. GENE HELPED OUT WHEREVER HELP WAS NEEDED. HE IS NOW IN A BETTER PLACE AND IS MISSED. WE REMEMBER GENE.

Not a really bad week.  We had some cool, sunny days and some warm, sunny days, along with a couple showers.  It did rain on Saturday for the Dairy Parade, but all turned out well and was an enjoyable time for those who attended the activities.    I did hear we may get some showers during the week, but it will help the gardens and flower beds to grow.

Hope all the Dads had a nice Father’s Day on Sunday.  I failed to check my calendar last week, so forgot to mention it.

The bear has been around quite frequently; taking down bird feeders and checking out the burning barrels.

Sorry to inform you, but Old Home Day in Lopez has been cancelled for this year.  Maybe next year.  We can only hope.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Had a lot of yard work to do, but still got in some relaxing time.

Not a lot of news.  Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, July 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Rev Mother Christophora, Ellwood City, is spending a few days at St. Nicholas House on Church Street.

Happy Birthday to Jean Woodford and Jodi Brumwell, 24th; and Andy Matychak and Garrett Burke, 27th.  Hope you have a nice day.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Matt Karchner on the 28th.  Hope it’s great.

I guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Had a pretty nice week, weather-wise.  Some hot, humid and sunny days, which felt good.  Had one day of rain, but not too much.   Thunderstorms were predicted, but they seemed to pass us by.    I guess next week is to be warm, with rain off and on.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and friends of Joe Tabor who passed away on Monday, the 7th.  A gentle man, liked by all; he will be missed.

Civic meeting on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m., at the Pavilion.

TJ, Alison, Jase and Wesson came in from New Jersey to spend time at their home here and visit his Mom, Mary, Maple Terrace, while his Dad, Ted, is fishing in Alaska with friends.   Nice weekend to be here.

Sunday was a nice day.  We enjoyed our Che-Hanna Rock & Mineral Club picnic at Saterlee Creek Environmental Center in Litchfield.  Good food, good friends and fun.   We met our newest rockhound….a beautiful chocolate Lab named Rosie.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, are spending some time at their home on Church Street.  Weather looks good for them to relax and also to get some yard work done.

More cabin and summer people are coming to town to spend time.  The pandemic is no where near over, but getting there.  You still have to take precautions and follow CDC guidelines.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jack Caccia, 22nd; and Cindy Stavisky, 23rd.  Have a good day.

Flower beds and baskets are really looking good and gardens are starting to take shape.  Hopefully frost won’t be around for the rest of the summer.  Let’s hope the “critters” will stay away also, and everyone will have a good crop of produce.

Hope everyone is doing well and if you’re a little under the weather, I send my Get Well Wishes that you will soon feel good and be out and about.

I think that does it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Everyone has plans and take advantage of the nice weather.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you if you get it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

WEBMASTER”S NOTE:

It is harder and harder to get help for anything-now-a days, and no different for the Lopez Civic Association. It takes quite a lot of folks to put on OLD HOME DAY. We do not have them any more and this year there will be no OLD HOME DAY. We use to have great ones but we use to have great workers. Like Kitty remembered a few weeks ago, now I would like you to remember her brother John McDonald. He was another hard worker that helped make OLD HOME DAY fun. He too is now in a better place. Miss you John.

Well, Mother Nature sure surprised us for Memorial Day weekend.  With all the rain we had prior, she held the rain off and we had a perfect day for the parade and all who participated.  I think this was one of the best crowds we had in a long time.  Thanks to all who took time to attend.   I think many got their cook-outs and picnics in.  Supposed to be hot for the week with thunderstorms possible because of the humidity.  I see gardens are being tilled, ready for planting and flowers are looking nice in the hanging baskets and pots along the house.  Let’s hope everyone has a good season.

Alex and Ginny Stavisky, Palm Beach, FL, are spending some time at their home here, as well and Ted and Faye Puzo at their home.  They came in from Ohio.  Have an enjoyable time.

Tyler McGuire returned home after a great week, with 14 of his school friends, on vacation at Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine.  They did lots of hiking and seeing places of interest.  All had a good time.

Don’t forget to still support the area businesses during this time as they get back on their feet after this pandemic.  Should be over soon, if another doesn’t hit us.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Sandy Kriel, 14th; Nathan Kinsey, 17th; and Dana Dempsey, 20th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Bob and Lisa Burke as they celebrate on the 19th.  Many more happy days ahead.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Nina Weslowski, 14th and Marty Slocum, 16th.  Have a fabulous day!

With the nicer weather finally getting here, more folks are coming to their summer homes and cabins.

Now that school is out, please watch out for kids on the road.  It doesn’t hurt to take a little more time to get where you’re going.  Just slow down.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week.  Should really be nice.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com., by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Here are some old timers. Know any of them?

What a miserable Memorial Day weekend.  Rain, rain and more rain.  Cold and windy and not fun.   There were still a lot of folks in for the weekend, despite the rain.   Last I heard, Tuesday is to be the nice day, with more rain the rest of the week.   Sure hope that’s wrong and Mother Nature gives us a break.  Forty-one degrees is a bit low for this time of year.

I hope many of you were able to attend and/or take part in the Memorial Day activities around the County to honor our fallen heroes who died to keep us free.

Adel Bradshaw, West Chester, spent a few days at her home here over the Holiday.   Weather sure wasn’t in her favor this time.

I saw a lot of campers at Tent City for the weekend.  Lots of activity down there while they were here and had an enjoyable time no matter the weather.

Mark and Lisa Fenster, Mark, Jr., Tatania and Sophia Fenster, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.

TJ, Allison, and Jase Lowden, along with Wesson, Marlton, NJ, spent the weekend at their home here and visited his parents, Ted and Mary, Maple Terrace.

Charles and Valerie York came in to spend a few days at St. Nicholas House and to celebrate their anniversary.  They were here during the winter and liked it so much, decided to come back.  Was more like winter weather again for them.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.

4-H Model Rocketry will be starting on Wednesday, June 9th, 3 p.m. at the Extension Office in Dushore.  New members welcome.  For more information, contact leader, Bob McGuire.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, June 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion if the weather cooperates.

Mama bear and one or two cubs are running around different areas of town.  I’ve seen video on Face Book from different ones who have seen them in their yards.

This crazy weather makes it hard to get any gardens ready for planting and what hanging baskets are out need to be brought in nightly.   Need some warm sunshine to help things along.  The ground is soft and mushy from all the wetness.

Happy Birthday to Lydia Stasiak, June 5th; Lynn Malkemes, 8th; and Matt Dayton, 10th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

I think that’s it from my rainy, cold back yard.  Enjoy your week.  It has to get better, I hope.  Have news, let me know by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening by calling me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, we couldn’t have asked for a better week.  We had some warm temperatures and lots of sun.  Sure felt good after all the cold and frost.  We may get some showers during the week, but won’t be bad with the higher temps.

Memorial Day is fast approaching.  Hope you will be able to attend one or all of the parades going on in the County.  Lopez parade will be at 10 a.m. in the Park.  Speaker will be Bob McGuire and placing the wreath will be Heather McDonald.  If any town kids would like to march, be at the Post Office by 9:45 a.m.  Sam and Dorothy will be there to get you all lined up.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Was nice for them to get yard work done.  We went to visit on Sunday afternoon and sitting on the porch we saw a mother bear, a little cub and an older cub cross the field and go down to the creek.   Joe and Diane had also seen them on Friday evening.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent Saturday at her home here.  Was a nice day for travel.

Mother Christophora and Mother Paula, Transfiguration Orthodox Church, Ellwood City, are spending some time here at St. Nicholas House on Church Street.   Hopefully the weather will be in their favor so they have a nice time during their stay.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski enjoyed vacationing in Alaska and toured many places while there  They did some gold panning and saw some massive glaciers and attended the wedding of their friends, Nartcy and Tanya.   They went on some exciting adventures and was a great time away.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Diane Fanning, 28th; and Joyce and Jack Walsh, 29th.  Congratulations and have a nice day.

Happy Birthday to Nick DeSanto on the 29th; and Bruno Day, 31st.    Have an amazing day.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Sandy Pardoe as she celebrates on the 31st.  Have a great day.

I keep seeing more and more hanging baskets and flower beds being done.  They look nice after so much snow and frost.  Hopefully they will be ok now for the summer.  Soon will be time to get the gardens planted and hope they will be spared the frost and the animals getting into them.

Covid is still with us, so wear your mask, practice the 6 foot rule and wash your hands often.   Maybe soon it will be a thing of the past.

I guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; looks like a nice one.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

I doubt any regular readers will be able to help, but I am trying it any way. Can any one out there maybe be able to ID the gal in this picture of the one of the oldest shots of the LOPEZ HONOR ROLL?

We had some really frosty days last week.  Was rainy and cold too.  Hopefully this week we are in for some nice, sunny weather.   Maybe Mother Nature is finally getting the hint.

Memorial Day is coming up on Monday, the 31st.  The parade will be at 10 a.m. in town.  If there are any kids that would like to march in the parade, please meet Sam and Dorothy at the Post Office at 9:45 a.m. to get lined up.  Mr. Ferdie Marek started this tradition years ago and each year we have kids that like to take part.  Questions, just give me a call.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many friends of Esther Bohensky who passed away on the 13th.  She was a person with a nice personality and friend to everyone.   Always had a smile and a kind word for all who knew her.  She will be missed.

Hope everyone got out to vote on Tuesday.

Ted and Mary Lowden spent the weekend in New Jersey with their son, TJ, Alison and Jase.  They helped Jase celebrate his third birthday.  Had quite a nice time while they were there.  Weather cooperated for them.

Did you mark your calendar for Saturday, June 5th, for the flea market at the Pavilion.  Time is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Check your attic, basement, garage and see what things you may not want.  Bring them to the flea market and make a couple bucks and you’ve cleaned up.  Questions, call me.

Happy Birthday to Janet Weidner, 22nd; Susan Aharonian, 24th and Tanya Stasiak, 25th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Tim and Bobbi Jo Brown, 21st; and Tony and Patty Sneidar, 26th.  Congratulations and many more.

With the nicer weather, little by little, I see folks getting their gardens tilled and ready for planting.  I see some who have their flowers out, but take them in at night to prevent frost from killing them.   We are to get some days this next week that will hit the high 70’s, with rain.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; hopefully full of sunshine and nice weather.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Mother’s Day weekend.  The weather sure didn’t help things.  It was a miserable weekend with rain, wind and clouds.  Sunday morning we had frost and only 22 degrees.  Yuk!  Its been raining all afternoon and evening on Sunday.  Good day for ducks.

I heard only Tuesday and Wednesday this week are to be nice.  The other days rain, rain, rain.  With this rain ending and the sun warming things up, the grass is going to grow like crazy  We can only hope that we will eventually get some summery days with warm sunshine.  Even though it has been cool and rainy, the hummingbirds have been slurping at the feeder during the day.

Congratulations to Kyler and Paige Burke for making the Distinguished Honor Roll.  Congratulations also to Serena Armioia, Ruby Malkemes, Charles Armioia, John Camelo and Karson Musani for making the Honor Roll.  Great job to these students.

Adel Bradshaw, West Chester, thought winter was over so she came to her home on Church Street for a few days.  Was she surprised at how cold and rainy it was.  She said winter is still with us.  Hopefully next time she comes, she won’t have to wear her winter coat.

The next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 19th at 6 p.m. at the Township Building since I don’t think Mother Nature is going to cooperate just yet to hold meetings at the Pavilion.

Don’t forget!  The Civic Association Flea Market will be on Saturday, June 5th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Check your attic, basement and garage and see what you may not want to keep any more.  Bring it to the Flea Market and make yourself a couple of bucks.  Have questions?  Call me at the number at the end of my news.

The Martinez family spent a few days over Orthodox Easter at St. Nicholas House and helped with the Easter services at the Church.

The reports are that the corona virus numbers are going down and then they show the maps and reports on TV and they have been going up in certain areas.  I guess we aren’t out of the woods yet..  So, wear your mask, practice the six foot distance and wash your hands often.

Happy birthday to Jase Lowden and Les Isett, 14th; Cory McDonald and Deacon Burke, 15th; and Marian Hubiak, 19th.  Hope you all have a fantastic day.

That’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Be like a duck and go out anyway.   Wear your boots and take your umbrella and just do it.  Have news?  Call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Please get it to me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

What a week, weather-wise, it was.  Had a little bit of everything.  Couldn’t believe how cold and windy it was and then the ground cover of snow on Friday.  We did get up to 74 degrees on Tuesday early in the evening.  The wind just does not want to stay away for any period of time.   Let’s hope for nicer weather soon.

Sympathy to the family and friends of Ron Garey, Lesterville, who passed away on April 26th, with his loving family by his side.  Such a pleasant man.  He will be missed.

B’s gang sends sympathy to the Stasiak family on the passing of Roda’s Dad, Ron Garey, Lesterville.

Clean your attics, basements and garages.  The Civic Association will have a flea market on Saturday, June 5th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pavilion.  For table space, contact me at the information below.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here and got lots of yard work done.  They were surprised to see the snow.  They’ve been watching the birds at the feeder and also a turkey with many little ones.  No bear just yet.

I guess the humming birds are back.  Bob McGuire, Jr. put his feeder out on Sunday and had hummers in no time.  So, we put ours out and had a hummer right away.  Told Heather and she put hers out, but didn’t hear if she had any yet.   I read on Face Book that the male comes back first to check things out and then the female comes later.  They are interesting little things to watch.

I see there was activity down at Tent City over the weekend, so they are slowly coming back and enjoying their time here.  Always lots of mowing to do.

Just remember, the virus is still with us.  Wear your mask, practice the six foot rule and wash your hands.   If you don’t feel well, stay home.   Hopefully, most of you are well and not bothered with the crazy flu or Covid.  It can go away any time and not come back.   I did hear May is a bad month for ticks, so check yourself if you’re out in the grass.  Check your pets too.

Remember to support the local establishments as they cope with these trying times.

Congratulations to Sally Houseknect and Dave Bender who were just married.  Good luck and lots of happy days ahead!

Happy Birthday to Paige and Kyler Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th; Ted Lowden, 7th; Elizabeth Spinosa, 10th; and Xander Kapler and Kessler Gilbert, 12th.  Hope you all have a super nice day.

It’s lawn mowing time so I see lots of folks out doing mowing and all kinds of yard work.  Getting the flower beds and hanging baskets ready.  Hopefully, the frost doesn’t kill everything.    Time to till the garden soon and get that ready for planting.

I think that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  It has to get nice soon, I hope.  Might get a little rain, but no snow on the horizon.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in.  Remember, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll catch ya next time.

Remember Kitty? She and a lot of other people that use to help make OLD HOME DAY a great event are gone now.

We lost many really great people and are having trouble getting people to work and continue holding OLD HOME DAY.

Hope you all enjoyed the cold, frosty, windy week we had last week.  We had a little bit of everything; we did have a couple of nice, sunny days, but it sure doesn’t seem like the end of April.  It’s more like January and February.  We need to do a Happy Dance and have Mother Nature give us some nice, nice weather.  I heard we are in for some thunderstorms and some higher temperatures.  Hopefully not snow and cold.  Seems the wind is always with us; never seems to stop blowing.

HAPPY EASTER to all of the Orthodox faith who will be celebrating this weekend, the 2nd of May.  Hope you have a Blessed time with family and friends.

Stupid virus is still with us, so do your thing……wear your mask, practice the six feet distance and wash your hands often.  If you don’t feel well, stay home.  When we think we’re getting somewhere, boom…..more cases come up.  Support the local businesses when possible.

Our Sunday early evening entertainment was watching a porcupine way up in the tree behind our house having dinner, I guess.  Looked like he was eating the buds and small branches near him.  When the wind blew and the branch swayed, he swayed along with it.  Pretty neat to watch the big guy and he finally climbed down.  Didn’t know they come down backward and use their tail to help them get down the tree.

Doesn’t seem like folks are having much luck yet with the gardens and flower beds.  Just too much frost in the early morning to have things out right now.

Happy Birthday to Mickey (Fedorchak) Mowery, 26th; David Spinosa, 28th; and Abby Matychak, 30th.  Hope you all have a sunny day.

Hopefully with the nicer weather coming, if it ever does, we’ll see more folks at their homes and cabins.  I think many are kinda staying home right now with all this pandemic going on.  Sure wish it would leave us very soon and we can get back to doing what we’ve been doing.

Well, that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  It has to get better……I hope.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Remember, I need it by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Wow!!  I think we are back to winter, rather than nice, sunny April weather.  We had some snow, cold, wind and a couple sunny days.  Seems more like January.  Last I heard, we are to get some rain this week.  The flowers are popping up and the bushes starting to bud.  They may survive or they may get frozen and not do anything this summer.   Let’s hope for some nice warm, sunny days.

Orthodox Easter will be coming up on Sunday, May 2nd.  Wishing all those who celebrate, a Blessed time with family and friends.

I guess this pandemic just doesn’t want to leave.  There are more virus cases every day.  Remember to wear your mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing. Just when we think it seems to get better, there are more cases.   I guess there are many who have been vaccinated.

Remember to support your local businesses during this time.  They need your help as they struggle through this situation.   I know there are some establishments who put their menu on Face Book, or will say what the specials are for the week and weekend.  Check them out.

I’ve heard there will be Memorial Day services this year.  Don’t know all the details, so watch the Sully for further information as it becomes available.

If we ever get some summer weather, hopefully start to see more folks coming to their summer homes and cabins.   Don’t see too many around right now.

Happy Birthday to Holly Ann Sperry, 20th; Jon-Paul Matychak, 23rd; and Katherine Kapler, 25th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Enjoy your week, whatever you do.  Get out and take a walk and just take in some fresh air, even if it’s a little brisk.  Gardens and flower beds will start to take shape.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in.  By 6 p.m. on Sunday evening is when I need it by.  I will be here next time and have a great week.

Well, we are getting some nicer days.  Had some frosty mornings, some warm and sunny days and a rainy Sunday.  I heard we are to have rain and showers every day for the next couple of weeks.  The saying, “April showers brings May flowers” better produce a bunch.  Flowers are peeking up out of the ground.  Soon, we’ll see the gardens and flower beds being worked on for the summer season.  Just hope we have a summer season.

Civic meeting, WED., the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Crazy pandemic is still with us so haven’t seen a lot of people out and about.  Hopefully we can soon visit and get back to doing things.  Remember to support the local folks during this time.   AND, remember to wear your mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.  Even if you’ve had your shots, they say it’s still a good idea to wear a mask.

Birthday wishes to Pat (Romania) Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, 17th; Tom Beck and Roseanne Lukachik, 18th.

Happy Anniversary to Michael and Georgia Martin as they celebrate on the 15th.  Have a nice day.

We will be having Memorial Day this year.   Watch the Sully for times and places.

A decision has been made on the 2021 Lopez mug.  It will be Jennings Store which used to sit between what is now Tabor’s and Bizup’s. Short column this week.  That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Get out and get some of that sunshine and nice weather.  Wear your boots in the rain, but do enjoy.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; snail mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Remember, by 6 p.m. on Sunday night.   Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

What a perfect day Sunday to celebrate Easter with family and friends.  The day was sunny, warm, and not much wind.  I hope you all had a nice day and the Easter bunny was good to all the kids.    The last I heard, we may be in for some rain the latter part of the week.   I hear the crocuses and daffodils are making their appearance and even the buds on the lilac bushes.  Just hope a good frost doesn’t ruin everything.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, enjoyed Thursday to Monday at their home here.  Was nice just to relax and not have to shovel snow.  Probably did some little odd jobs.  They did have the bear on Friday night.  Tried to get a higher feeder and took a piece of the siding off the back side of the house.  She was trying to tell him the feeders are empty, but he had to see for himself.   So, be watchful and keep an eye on your feeders.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent the Easter weekend at her home here.  Visiting on Sunday were her kids, Shawn Pequignot; Kevin Pequignot; Jennifer, Elexus, Serenity and Alek Pequignot.

Mark and Lisa Fenton, Mark, Tatania and Sophia Fenton spent a few days at their home here and enjoyed the nice weather.  They are from the Philly area.

TJ, Allison and Jase Lowden, along with Wesson, were here for a few days at their home.  They came in from New Jersey and had a great time.  Visited his parents, Ted and Mary too.  I’m sure the Easter bunny make a stop there.

We enjoyed an Easter lunch with our son, Bob, Jr. at his home and enjoyed visiting.

Don’t forget, Civic meeting on Wednesday, April 21st, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Hope you can make it.  We need to make some decisions on up-coming events.

Crazy virus cases are on the rise again.  Just when we think we are getting somewhere, it goes crazy.  Hopefully it will be a thing of the past very soon.  In the meantime, wear your mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.  Heard on TV there is some other strain of virus in a lot of states now.  Remember to support the local businesses.

Happy birthday this week to John Risser, 12th; and Joyce Walsh, 13th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Sheldon and Penn Sperry as they celebrate on the 13th.   Enjoy your day.

I know there were probably other families that gathered at Easter, but they haven’t contacted me, so hope you all had a wonderful time.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  It’ll be garden and flower time before you know it.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had some nice weather and had some rainy, cool weather.  I heard some of those white flakes maybe on Thursday with rainy conditions the other days.  We really need to let Mother Nature know that we need warm, sunny days.

Jim Rouse called me on Thursday and told me he has crocuses up and says that’s a good sign of Spring.  He’s also seen some robins.

Congratulations to Mike Stavisky & Rebecca Kamber of Jupiter Florida for tying the knot on Saturday March 20th.  Mike is the Son of Alex & Virginia Stavisky of Palm Bay, Florida and Lopez..  Mike and Becky are planning to visit Lopez again this summer to enjoy the mountain air.   Good luck and many years together.

Don’t forget the Civic meeting coming up on WED. April 21st, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Hope to see you there.

Hope you are getting out a little more.  Hopefully, soon, we all can do what we were doing before this pandemic.  Gotta still remember to wear your mask, practice the six foot distance and wash your hands frequently.   And……remember to support the local businesses.

Birthday wishes to V Rev Andrew Matychak, 5th; Shawn Pequignot, 6th; and Jaron Williams, 11th.  Have a nice day.

B’s Gang sends special birthday wishes to Tim Higley whose special day is the 1st.  Have fun.  Wonder if they’re going to pull a “prank” on him.

Happy Anniversary to Julio and Mary (Maximiak) Santiago as they celebrate on the 5th.  Many more.

B’s Gang says Happy Anniversary to Bill and Roda on the 6th.  Have a great day.

It’s Easter already on Sunday, the 4th.  Hope the Easter bunny makes a stop at your house to leave some eggs for you to find and maybe they will have surprises inside.  Have a Blessed Easter with all your loved ones.  Take a moment to remember those who cannot be with us, wherever they may be.

I see there was a little activity down at Tent City recently.

I think that’s all I have for now.  Enjoy your week.  I see folks are starting to work in the yard to spruce things up.  Let’s hope for warm, sunny weather coming soon.  If you have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I will get it in for you.  Take care; stay safe and well.  I’ll be here next time.

We are starting to get some nicer weather, after some cold, frosty mornings.  Saturday I had 12 degrees with frost and Sunday frost but I didn’t get the low in time. We did have 60 degrees late Sunday afternoon.  Felt so good.  Was a perfect day for a walk and fresh air.   Check out Sam’s weather report.   I did hear we are to get some nice, sunny, warm days during the week, with maybe some rain late on Thursday.   With the snow and ice melting away, its starting to look so much better.

Don’t have much to report.  Soon, we might start seeing folks coming to their summer homes and cabins to check things out.   They will probably start the process of cleaning up from the winter weather.

Gee, haven’t even seen any deer, birds or turkeys lately.  We do have woodpeckers at the suet feeder and our buddy, “Chippy” from last year.  He’s back and ready for the corn and bird seed.

Birthday wishes to Irene Risser, 28th; Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey, 30th.  Have a nice day.

Our Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club was cancelled for the end of March due to Covid.  It has been rescheduled for October 9th and 10th at the Wysox Fire Hall.  Mark your calendar now and take a trip to enjoy our show.  There will be a mini-mine for the kids to try their hand at; geode cutting where you can get a geode cut and find out what’s inside; and dealers with all kinds of things for you to buy.  It’s a great little show.

Don’t forget to support the small local businesses as they try to stay afloat until this craziness is over.  Remember to wear your mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.  If you don’t feel well, stay home.

That about sums it up for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you might get involved in.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopez.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Wow!!!  The wind just doesn’t stop.  After a couple of really nice days, Saturday and Sunday were terrible windy and cold.  Friday was a perfect day to do laundry and use the sun and breeze to dry the clothes on the line. We had many geese going North, lots of red wing blackbirds and many robins during the week.  Sure hope this is a good sign.  Next week’s weather doesn’t look really good, with a lot of rain predicted.  Don’t need that. It’s pretty muddy now so hopefully it will dry up soon.  Did you all remember to turn your clocks ahead on Sunday morning??

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Please call 570-928-8909 to order yours.

I know it’s early, but mark your calendar.  There will be a Civic meeting on WEDNESDAY, April 21st, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.   Hope to see you there.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire on Main Street.  Saturday evening, they, along with Bob McGuire, Jr., Marty Slocum, Tim and Lori Higley had a little birthday celebration for Bob McGuire, Sr.    Dogs, burgers and salads were delicious.  It was just nice to get together and visit.

I guess we still have to follow the rules, so do your part and wear your mask, practice the six foot social distancing and wash your hands frequently.  If you don’t feel well, stay home.  Hopefully, this virus will soon be a “thing” of the past and we can get on with life.

Hope you all have a nice St. Patrick’s Day and wearin’ of the green.

Happy Birthday to Dan Risser and Sherlyn Dendler, 17th; Joe Tabor, 18th; and Aaron Kinsley and Alyssa (in the Post Office), 21st.  Hope you all have a nice day.

B’s Gang sends special birthday wishes to Steph Putnam, 18th; Kristin (Putnam) Carter,  and Lori Higley, 19th.  Hope you all have a super day!

Now, if the weather does get nicer, maybe I’ll see folks out and about.  Lots of yard work to do from all the snow, ice and cinders from the winter.  I guess some will be thinking about gardens and flower beds soon.

Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  If you have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 12, 2021 by Bob McGuireApril 12, 2021

Was a cold weekend with some snow showers and gusty wind.  It was only 8 degrees on Sunday morning. Mother Nature just doesn’t want to be done with us yet with the wintry weather.   Check out the full Lopez weather from Sam in another part of the paper.   I saw about a dozen doves and fifteen red wing black birds early Sunday morning in a little grassy spot across the street scratching in the dirt.  They didn’t stay long.  Guess they figured it wasn’t food after all.

Last Wednesday, the 3rd, Church Street, Lilac Lane and Maple Terrace lost power from 4:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. due to a blown transformer or fuse.  Was glad to finally have it back on.   I feel really bad for those in Texas that were without power for days.  Never know how good we have it until it’s taken from us.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 570-928-8909.

Well, it’s coming.  On March 14th we SPRING AHEAD with our clocks early Sunday morning by turning them ahead one hour.  And, Spring isn’t far behind as that will be here on March 21st.  Let’s hope we start to get some half decent weather.  Will be good to get out and be able to do things.  Some folks have already ordered their seeds for planting this year.

Sympathy from the community to family and friends of Mary Louise (Hoover) Stavisky who passed away on February 23rd.

It’s a good idea with this virus still going around to wear your mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.   I heard on TV that this pandemic won’t be over with even in March of 2022.  Sure hope that is wrong.  Don’t forget to support the local businesses as they work so hard to get through this time.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY to all.  Hope you have a great, green day.

Do any of you plan to have a sand box this summer for the kids.  I saw this on Face Book and thought I’d pass it along.  Take one cup of cinnamon and mix it with the sand.  It will deter bugs, critters and even cats.  Try it to see if it works.  I have no kids, so no sand.  (Thank you Dorothy.)

Don’t go too many places so don’t see too many people.  I do walk but don’t run into anyone.  So, don’t know who is around and about.  I think most are staying close to home to be safe.  When the warmer weather gets here, I’m sure there will be cabin people coming to check things out and spend a day or two or a weekend.

Happy Birthday to Julian Bonner, 11th; Bob McGuire, Sr. and Theresa Pochatko, 13th; Elizabeth Weisbrod, 14th and Gianna Mae DiRocco, 16th.  Hope you all have a fantastic day.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Tina Tabor as they celebrate on the 14th.  Have a nice day. Guess that’s it from here.  Enjoy your week.  Hopefully it will hit 50 degrees as the weather man says.  We could use some warm weather and lots of sun to melt the dirty snow and ice.  If you’d like news in the paper call me at 570-928-9238; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com, before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Check out these students. How many do you recognize?

Hope you all had a good weekend.  Seems like the coyote hunt held over the weekend was quite a success.  We had all kinds of weather during the week.  Some fog; some plowable snow; some sunny days with the temperatures in the high 40’s and 50 degrees; a couple days with rain all day long.  Had a couple days of nice sunshine and then had early morning frost.  We had it all.  But…….I hear Spring is just around the corner, we just have to find which corner.    Sure hope we find it soon.   The deer and turkey are having a hard time getting through the fields, so you see a lot of tracks in the snow where they are walking right in the road.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here and did a lot of snow removal.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of each month.  Call 570-928-8909 to order and they can be picked up at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.

Hardly seems possible that it’s March already.  Sure hope it doesn’t come in like a lion.  Last I heard, it’s to be a pretty calm week with with no storms on the way, but that can change in an instant.

Happy Birthday to Anthony Sneidar, March 1st; Keene Vinetelli; 5th; Bethany Dendler, 6th; Janelle Day, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, 10th.  Hope you all have a sunny day.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your day.  May there be lots of sunshine for everyone to enjoy.  Remember the Covid rules.  Don’t have to remind you.  I think they have been ingrained in our head for such a long time.  Can only hope this pandemic is over with soon and we can all get back to a more “normal” life, if we can figure out what that is.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Take care; thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Anyone remember this couple?

Well, another storm on the horizon so here I sit Sunday evening typing my news and wondering if we’ll get the 3-5 inches they’re calling for.  Guess we’ll find out tomorrow (Monday).  We had some really cold mornings and it didn’t warm up much during the day.  We did have one day that hit 33 degrees; regular heat wave.  This weather has gotta change soon.

I put this item in a couple years ago, but with all the ice we’ve been having, I thought I’d do it again.  For sidewalk de-icer, mix 1 teaspoon of Dawn Liquid, 1 Tablespoon rubbing alcohol and one half gallon of hot water.  Pour over walkways and they won’t re-freeze.

Distinguished Honor Roll – Serena Armioia; Kyler Burke; and Paige Burke.

Honor Roll – Joey Malkemes.  Congratulations to all of you.

Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Eleanor Grandinetti who passed away on February 13th.   She was 99 years young. She was a long time resident of Lopez and involved in many things. I remember her as crocheting many, many lap blankets for Veterans at nursing homes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month, from Noon to 1 p.m.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall.  Call 570-928-8909 to order.

Can’t believe the month of February is about over.  Where does the time go?  Hope the warmer weather gets here as fast.  Days are getting longer, so that’s nice.

Not much to report.  Everyone is staying kinda close to home.  I did hear some snowmobiles on Sunday afternoon.  Haven’t even seen many deer or turkeys now.  Just the birds at the bird feeders.

Happy Birthday to Jacob Williams, 23rd; Bob McGuire, Jr. and Christopher Sneidar, both on the 26th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Don’t forget, wear your mask; do the six foot distancing; wash your hands; and support the local businesses when you can.  Pray for this pandemic to finally be over with.

Guess that wraps it up for this time.  Enjoy your week.  May need the shovel and may not.  See what happens.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; see me, if you can find me around; mail me; or e-mail at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  If I leave any birthdays, anniversaries or anything out, please let me know and I’ll get it in.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had a couple days of plowable snow, had some wind and had some sun and nice days.  Can’t tell from one day to the next what it’s going to do.  I know I’m ready for warm weather.  How about you?  The weather has to change for the better soon, I hope.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home here on Church Street.  Couldn’t believe how much snow there was.  Took a while to get up the lane to the house but they made it and had lots of shoveling and snow blowing to do.  Kind of a tiring weekend but they got the job done.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They are available from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  Call 570-928-8909 to order yours.

Birthday wishes to Haley Latch, 15th; Allison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th.  Have a nice day.

Sunday, the 14th, is Valentine’s Day.  Hope you have a great day with your loved ones.

Not much news to report.  Have been watching the woodpeckers at the suet feeder.  Haven’t seen any deer for a while now.

I did see Mike, Heather and Kaeleigh McDonald on the hill across the street, sledding.  When they got a path, they were going down pretty good.

Hope you all have been doing well.  Still remember to wear your mask, practice the social distancing and wash your hands often.  If you don’t feel well, stay home.   I think with all the Super Bowl parties on Sunday, there’s going to be another rise in Covid cases.

That’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  Probably some snow will be predicted.  Have news, call, e-mail or see me, before 6 p.m. on Sunday.  Phone 570-928-9238; just catch me around town; e-mail – news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’m sure to be here next time.

Thirteen turkeys meandering around the town were having a bit of trouble as their feet would hit the snow and sink down.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 10, 2021 by Bob McGuireFebruary 10, 2021

It’s been snowing all day Sunday in Lopez.  Everything is white and looks pretty nice.  No plow has gone through an no shoveling or snowblowing yet.

Don’t know how much we’ll end up with but probably too much.  At least it isn’t as cold as it has been.  When it does stop, the plows, shovels and snowblowers will be kept busy.

Valerie Iwancio-York and Charles York, Jefferson, PA, came to spend a two week Valentine’s get-away at St. Nicholas House while their 1800’s house is being up-dated.  Hope they enjoy the snow while they are here.    Tom, Kristin, Tai and Luke Iwancio, Harrisburg, spent the day with them on Saturday.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  You can pick them up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  Call 570-928-8909 to place your order.

Hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected with the Covid and the flu running around.  I see our Sullivan County cases have gone up again.  Please do your part and wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands frequently.  Stay home if you’re not feeling well.  Hopefully, we can get Covid and these other strains gone for good.

Support your local businesses when you can as they struggle to do the best they can.  Every little bit helps to keep them going.

No Civic meeting for the month of February.  May be one in March, weather permitting.  If anyone has any fund raising ideas, let us know.  Need to have money coming in to pay the bills.  We still have t-shirts, hoodies, koozies and masks for sale, with the Lopez logo.

Happy Birthday to Alex Aharonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; Tommy VanDyke and Krystal Vermeire, 14th, which is Valentine’s Day.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Don’t have much else to report, so guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week; let’s see how much snow we do get.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in before you.  Remember by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.
