Wow!!   What a cold, windy, rainy, miserable weekend we had.  Must have been at least five inches of rain and the creeks were ready to go over their banks.  I guess the whole US had bad weather of some sort, according to reports and pictures on TV.  Mother Nature doesn’t know what to do next.  I heard we are in for rain, and some snow showers, for the week.  Oh, joy!   I guess it could be much worse, so be happy we didn’t lose power or have serious flooding.

Congratulations to the following for achieving honor roll status.  Distinguished Honor Roll – Miles Baton; Kaeleigh McDonald; Kyleigh McDonald; and Bruno Day.  Honor Roll – Makayla Day; Izabella Capriotti; Adriana Capriotti; Enrico Capriotti;  Ruby Malkemes; and Aaron Kinsey.  Keep up the good work.

Next Civic meeting will be on Thursday, May 18th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Note change of day.

Happy Birthday wishes to Ken Pochatko, 6th; Ted Lowden, 7th; Diane Fanning, 9th; and Elizabeth Spinosa, 10th.  Hope you all have a great day.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, spent the weekend with his Dad, Bob, Jr. and visited his Uncle “B”, Nina Weslowski and us while he was here.  Was a nice surprise when he stopped to visit.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that might be coming up you’d be interested in.  Hopefully, the weather will get much better.   The start of summer is approaching and lots of things will be going on around the County.

I guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  You may need your rain boots and umbrella, but get out if you can.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Weather for the week was up and down.  Nice, then flurries, windy and cold.  Saturday we had a good rain storm, along with some thunder.  Sunday was a cold, windy day.  I heard rain and snow showers for most of the week, and sure hope that is wrong.  I also heard we will be getting some frost.  Not a good idea.  Guess we have to wait and see.  If we get a lot of rain, we’ll need goats to mow down the grass.   Tick season is upon us and I read that it’s going to be pretty bad this year.  So, what’s new?  Bugs are bad every year.  Just have to deal with them.

FLASH!!  THERE WILL BE A PARK CLEAN UP ON SUNDAY, APRIL 30TH, TO GET READY FOR THE MOWING SEASON    If you’d like to volunteer some time, please meet at the Pavilion.  Many hands make light work.

Mark and Lisa Fenster and Mark, Jr., Tatania and kids spent the weekend at their home on Church Street.  Wasn’t the best weather, but I think they had a good time while they were here.

Happy Birthday wishes Mickie Mowery, 26th; David Spinosa, 28th; and Abby Matychak, 30.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Some May birthdays include Kyler and Paige Burke, 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd.  Have a great day.

With the summer weather on the way, hopefully, there will be more things going on around the County.  Keep an eye on the Sullivan Review and Face Book to see what you may be interested in.  Flea markets and yard sales are already in progress.   There are also many good places for your eating pleasure.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, snow, rain, sun, whatever.  We will manage.  Have news, give me a call, before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, at 570-928-9238; see me; snail mail me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  Will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope all of you that celebrated the Orthodox Easter had a blessed holiday .  Kind of a rainy weekend, but not too bad, and the much needed rain is really going to help with the dry situation.   I heard it may be a rainy week, but we’ll deal with it and be happy.  It could be much worse.  The grass will get green, will be time to mow and some are planning gardens and flower beds.  The bear are also out and about and the deer and turkeys are running around, so be on the watch for them.  I guess there are a couple of good sized bear that have been captured on camera.   Birds are plentiful and have been checking out areas to build their nests.

Scott, Susan and Adam Aharonian, Narvon, spent a few days at their home on Dutch Mountain.  They visited us one day while they were here.  Had an enjoyable time, since it had been a while.

Ted and Fay Puzo, Ashtabula, Ohio, spent some time at their home on Main Street.  Weather was pretty nice while they were here, and they also celebrated Easter too.

It seems the summer weather is on the way and lots of folks will be coming to open up their homes and cabins to spend time here.  Can’t beat Sullivan County for a place to live.

Happy Birthday to Holly Ann Sperry, 20th; Jon-Paul Matychak, 23rd; and Katherine Kapler, 25th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Keep a watch on the Sullivan Review and Face Book for information on things that may be coming up that you’d be interested in.  There’s always lots of activities that will keep you busy during your time here, plus many fine dining establishments, with many delicious foods, to keep you fed.  Ice cream is also available for those hot, sunny days for you to enjoy.

Have a great week and enjoy whatever you may do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter weekend.   Lots of egg hunts, dinners, Church services and being with friends and family took place.  Weather was perfect.  Check out Sam Burke’s weather report for the week elsewhere in the paper.  About time we are due for the nicer weather.   Since it’s getting nicer, the buds are starting to pop out on the trees and bushes; lots of birds are making their appearance; and it’s just nice to be out in the warmth and sunshine.  Of course, the wind makes an appearance almost all day long.   I know many are thinking of gardens and flower beds.

Spending Easter Sunday with Irene (Huray) Pequignot at her home here was Shawn and Dylon Pequignot; Shawn’s friend, Janell and her daughter, Sophie; Kevin Pequignot, his daughter, Alyssa Pequignot, her son, Bryson and daughter, Ariella; Jennifer Pequignot, her daughter, Elexus and son, Alek, and Jennifer’s friend, Shawn; Sophie Bednar; Mickey Bednar and his daughter, Karen.  Was a nice family time for all.

Civic meeting Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Joyce Walsh, 13th; Pat (Romania) Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, 17th; and Roseanne Lukachik, 18th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Sheldon and Penny (Benjamin) Sperry; 13th;  and Michael and Georgia Martin, 15th.  Have a great day.

Check the Sully and Face Book for events that might be coming up to see if there is something of interest for you.  I know yard sales and flea markets will be more plentiful as the weather gets nicer.  Lets hope it stays warm now.  Someone did mention to me they were coming to Lopez to open their cabin for the summer one year  and we had a wicked snow storm.  Hope not this year.

Hope everyone is feeling well and not bothered by any “bugs” that may be going around.

That’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Sure can’t believe this weather.  It’s up; it’s down.  It’s rainy, cold and windy.  Don’t know from one day to the next what it’s going to do. How about the short blizzard like storm that went through the one day.  Could not see across the road.  The wind blew and sounded like a train going through.  Sure hope it’s going to start being nice and sunny, along with no wind for a change.  Let’s see what the week will bring us.  Sunday is Easter and hope it will be nice then.   Hope everyone is feeling well and not bothered with the bugs that are still going around.  With the nicer weather, hopefully, on the way, folks can get out and start on the gardens and flower beds.  I’ve seen some flowers starting to poke through the ground and hope they don’t get hit with frost and freeze.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, and her cousin, Michael and his girlfriend, spent from Monday to Thursday here.  Had a good time and got some clean up done too.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and friends of Jim Ritinski who recently passed away.

Next Civic meeting will be Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Happy belated birthday from “B” to Tim Higley as he celebrated on the 1st.  Hope it was a great day!

Birthday wishes to V Rev Andrew Matychak, 5th; Shawn Pequignot, 6th; Jaron Williams, 11th; and John Risser, 12th.   Hope you all have a nice day.

Keep an eye on the Sully for things going on in the County that you may be interested in.   Face Book is also a good source of information.

That’s it for now.  Have a good week, whatever your plans.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a good weekend.  The weather was up and down.  Had some rain, flurries, snow showers and always lots of wind.  I did hear the week is to be much better with a warm up on the way.  That would be nice.  I did see robins, for the first time, on Monday.   April is just around the corner and the Easter bunny will be hopping along to see all the little kiddies.

Bob and I were at our mineral club show for the weekend, so was a busy time.  It was very well attended and everyone did well.  I did see a few Sullivan County folks and hope they enjoyed the day.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Weather was wishy/washy, but they got some winter clean up done.

Hope everyone is feeling their best.  Hopefully with the nicer weather coming, the “bugs” will go away and there will be good health for all.  It’s time to start planning of the gardens, flower beds and hanging baskets.

Mary Lowden had the bear on her back deck.  Guess he/she was hungry.  Took her bell shaped bird feeder and it was no where to be found.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, April 19, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Summer plans will be in the works.  Hope to see you there.

That’s it.  Hope you all enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  The sun is shining, it’s a little frosty, but it’s going to be a great week.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; “snail” mail me, see me, or e-mail be at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.   Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 22, 2023 by Bob McGuireMarch 22, 2023

Crazy weather, for sure.  After 50+ temperatures during the week, we wake up to 17 degrees Sunday morning with a bitter wind and some sun.   First day of Spring is Monday, the 20th, according to my calendar, but I have my doubts.  I think we’re still in for some cold, nasty weather.  Hopefully not.  We can hope that nice weather is on the way.   We did see 15 turkeys one day, taking advantage of the nice weather and taking a walk in the cemetery.  Have been seeing and hearing geese also.   I know our Florida friends are anxious to get back to Lopez and Sullivan County for the summer months.

Friday morning Bob heard one of the mouse traps snap and then the wiggling and flip-flopping of the trap.  He went to check out the incident to find a somewhat larger mouse in the trap.  Thought we got the head of the household.  It was really fighting to get, out being it was caught around the waist.  He placed a pan over it to let it die, but after ten minutes it was still fighting. Bob changed strategy and put the animal in a can of water.  By golly it was able to keep its head above water, so more water was added and still in the trap it went under and died.  Dumping it out revealed it was not a mouse but a young weasel.  This size weasel can get through an unbelievably small hole.  One less weasel to get the chickens.

Recent visitors to Sullivan County were Mark Libbey and Jim Faulkner.  Jim’s buddy/wife, Darlene Paige, of almost 50 years, unfortunately passed away recently.  She was part of the Huray family, local Lopez residents for over 100 years.  To fulfill Darlene’s wishes they brought hundreds of pieces of clothing to the Loan Closet.  The items included slacks, dresses, blouses, shoes, sweaters and coats/jackets. There were also many medical supplies, with future trips to include more clothes and medical supplies including a hospital bed.  The Loan Closet is located on Water street in  Dushore and is open Thursday through Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM for purchases.   (Thank you, Jim, for your generous donations.)

Happy Birthday to Aaron Kinsey, 21st; Irene (Kravitz) Risser, 28th; Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Civic meeting on Wednesday, April 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.   Summer plans will starting to be made.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many friends of Norm Vaughan who passed away on the 8th.

Put a banana peel or two in a Mason jar and cover with water.  Leave for a day or two.  Pour just the water on your tomato plants and you will have more blossoms and they will thrive on the potassium.    Try it when you plant your tomato plants this summer.

Don’t forget the 53rd Annual Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral Show is coming up on the 25th and 26th.    This is held at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company from 9 – 5 on Saturday and 10 – 4 on Sunday.  Hope to see you there.  Lots to see and do for everyone.   Check out all the details on chehannarocks.com.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  I did hear we are to have some more 50 degree weather.  Hope so.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Wow!  Woke up Sunday morning to an 8 degree temperature.  Was glad the sun came out and it went up considerable.  The week wasn’t too bad, except for the wind and cold.   As I sit and type my news on Sunday evening, I saw a weather report for a massive storm on Monday into Tuesday.  Did we get that storm?   Hope not.  I do remember one year we did have a bad snow storm on March 13th.  Seems like we just get the snow cleaned up and we get another dumping.   I’m just so ready for Spring.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend visiting her parents, Gerry and Paula in Allentown.    Weather cooperated for them.

Civic meeting will be held in April, on Wednesday,  the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Will be a little too cold yet to meet at the Pavilion.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on the 17th.  Hope you all wear the green and have an enjoyable day, whatever you do.

Happy Birthday to Gina Mae DiRocco, 16th; Don Risser, 17th.  Enjoy your day.

“B” says Happy Birthday to Steph Putnam, 17th; Kristin (Putnam) Carter, 18th and Lori Higley, 19th.  Hope you all have a great day.

John and Brittney Taylor, along with their three sons, Lititz, spent the weekend at their home here.  Came to enjoy the snow since they have not had any at home.  Had a great time sledding, going up into the woods and just being in the snow.

Hopefully, we’ll start to see some of the winter birds coming back to their homes and cabins here.  I think they are anxious to get back too.

Don’t forget the 53rd annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Show on March 25 and 26 at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Hall.  Something for everyone to see and take part in.  Lots of educational displays, mini-mine, geode cutting, all kinds of mineral related items for sale and fluorescent mineral programs by UVBOB both days.  Food sold on the premises.  Hope to see you there.  Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday Noon to 4 p.m.

Thank you to Greg and Vicke Pirnik for their generous donation for Cold Spring.  They love it and have been using it since they bought their home here.  Much appreciated and it all helps.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Might have to shovel and plow.  Might not have to do that.  Would be fine with me to have nothing.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

What  brisk, cold, snowy, rainy days during the week we had.  Mother Nature is telling us winter is still here.  Cold in the early morning and then warms up during the day, but the wind just does not quit.  Hopefully, we’ll have some better weather on the way.

FLASH:  Don’t forget to TURN your clocks AHEAD on Sunday morning.  It’s SPRING AHEAD this time and hopefully Spring won’t be far behind.

The geese are still coming North, so that may be a good sign.  We can only hope.

Congratulations to Tyler McGuire for making the Dean’s List for the Fall Semester at Rochester Institute of Technology.  He is enrolled in the software engineering program.

I saw this hint when reading some information the other day:  Store lemons in a jar of water in the fridge and they are to last up to three months, so they say.  I don’t buy lemons, so try it and see what happens.

There’s still a “bug” going around with some being sick for a few days and some just over night.  Can’t seem to get away from it.  Hope everyone is feeling much better if they’ve had this nasty thing.

Third Wednesday in April, the 19th, Civic meeting, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Mark your calendar for that date.

53rd Annual Che-Hanna mineral club show, 25 and 26 March at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Social Hall.  9-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.  Mini mine; educational displays, cabochon making, geode cutting, vendors with all kinds of mineral related goods; UVBOB fluorescent mineral programs; food sold on premises.  Something for everyone.  Hope to see you there.  Mark your calendar now.

Thank you to Ken and Sara Smith for their generous donation toward up-keep of Cold Spring.  It is appreciated.  If you’d like to donate, you can send a letter, with our donation, to Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.  Thank you in advance.

Happy Birthday to Linda Baton, 8th; Janelle Day, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, 10th; Julian Bonner, 11th; Theresa Pochatko and Bob McGuire, Sr., 13th; Elizabeth Weisbrod, 14th; and Kathy Isett, 15th.  Hope you all have a great day.

I’m sure when this weather gets nicer and it’s not snowy, rainy, icy or muddy, folks will be thinking of gardening and flowers for the summer.  Hopefully, we will get some good weather for that this year.

Keep and eye on the Sully for things that may be going on around the County that you may be interested in attending or even taking part in.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me, by 6 p.m. on Sunday, at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

What a wishy-washy week we had with the weather.   Had snow, rain, fog, lots of wind and some sun.  Saturday was very cold and windy with gusts up to 25 miles an hour.  Sunday morning it went down to 5 degrees, but warmed up a little during the day with sunshine.  Didn’t get as high as predicted.  Of course the wind was with us still.   LOTS of geese going North the past few days.  Good sign?  I sure hope so.

Tick season is upon us and I got this tip from a friend.  Use any product with 5% permethrin to keep ticks at bay.  She said it remains protective through several washings.  She has a lot of ticks in her area and says it works really well for her.

Hopefully the weather will be getting better and we’ll start to see more folks around at their seasonal places.

Watch the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events that you may be interested in.

Don’t have much to report this week.  I do want to wish Linda (Hatch) Raub good luck in whatever she will be doing.  I will miss her Forksville column as she always has the hunting and fishing seasons down pat.  I know she likes to do that and kept everyone informed as to when and where.  Hopefully, someone will take over and do the same.

Mark your calendar for Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26.  The Che-Hanna R&M Club will be having their 53rd annual show at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall.  Something for everyone.  I will put more in as it gets closer.

Congratulations to Matt and Danielle Williams.  They had baby number five.  Anna Yvonne was born on January 27th and baby and mama are doing fine.

I guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  Don’t know what the weather will bring, but there will be some.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had an enjoyable Holiday weekend.  Weather has been really good with cold and frost in the early mornings and 40 and 50 temperatures during the day.  Really unusual for February.  Looks like the week will not be too bad either.  The weekend was perfect for activities going on in Dushore.   It was nice weather for quad riding and just getting out and going for walks and enjoying the fresh air.

Someone mentioned about the flowers coming up through the ground and then we had that cold snap and they froze.  Seems they are coming up again.  Will they freeze?  Just have to wait and see what’s in store for us down the road.  Early Spring would be fine with me.   There have been many reports of geese going North, so I hope they’re on the right track.  I know folks are thinking of gardens and flower beds in their future pretty soon.

The 53rd annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Show is coming up the end of March.  You can check it all out on FB at chehannagemshow and see what’s happening, when, where, and what time.  Mark your calendar now for Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th.   More in next week’s paper.  Fun time for all.

Keep an eye on the Sully and FB for up-coming events which may be going on that you might be interested in.

Happy Birthday wishes to Clair Johnson II, 20th; Armond Spinosa, 22nd; Jacob Williams, 23; and Bob McGuire, Jr., 26th.  Hope you all have a very nice day, whatever you may do.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  May get some rain, but temperatures are to be fairly good again.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; see me; call me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and your team won the Super Bowl.  Can’t believe this weather we’ve been having.  Cooler temperatures early in the morning and some higher temperatures during the day.  We were in Sayre on Saturday and when we were leaving early evening, we saw a flock of geese heading North.  Wonder if they know something or are going to wish they stayed South a little longer.  I thin Ole Man Winter still has a good storm in store for us before this is all over.  Hope I’m wrong and we will have an early Spring.  The weather for the week isn’t to be too bad, from what I’ve seen.  But, it can change at any time.

Sorry to hear that the Sleigh Rally scheduled for the weekend had to be cancelled because of no snow.  The Chocolate and Wine Walk is still scheduled, so take part in that event. Check the Sully and Face Book to see what all takes place, when, and where.    It’s always a fun time for everyone, with lots of things to see and do.  And, it is a Holiday weekend, so you have an extra day.

Garon Lazarevic will be running for Sheriff of Sullivan County.  See his article elsewhere in the paper.  He lives in Lopez with his wife, Leslie, and two beautiful dogs.  Originally from Philly, they say they love Lopez and the County since they have moved here.  Good luck to him.

Happy Birthday to Haley Latch, 15th; Allison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th; Khloie Bahr, 19th.   Hope you all have a nice day.

With nicer weather coming, more folks may be out and about.   Will see them doing yard work and cleaning up the dirty snow and cinders.  Some have said they even have some flowers starting to pop through the ground.  Will be time to think of gardens pretty soon.

Sorry to hear that Linda Raub won’t be doing the Forksville news.  She was my “go-to” person if you wanted to know about hunting and fishing.  Wish her good luck in whatever she may do.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Boy!  Mother Nature sure gave us some wicked weather the last week.  We had two brutal days of high winds, below zero temperatures and blowing snow.  Then, on Sunday, the temperature hit 42 degrees.  That really felt good.  I guess from what I’ve heard, the week is to be pretty mild.  Let’s see what happens.

I heard that there will be no Eagles Mere Toboggan slide, due to not enough ice that is thick enough.  That’s a shame since it’s one of their major fund raisers.  Have to see if there will be enough snow for the Sleigh Rally that will be coming up soon.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  Do you have plans for that special one?   Check out the Sully or Face Book to see what might be going on that you’d be interested in.

With this crazy weather, there isn’t too much to report.  I think everyone is staying close to home and indoors.  The flu bug is also going around and has a lot of folks sick with that.  Get well to all who are bothered.

Got an e-mail from someone who was interested in my UFO article last week and checked into it.  He sent a different article to me also about it.  Interesting.

Happy Birthday to  Alex Arahonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; and Tommy Van Dyke and Krystal Vermiere, 14th.  Have a nice day.

That’s it.  Have a good week, whatever you may do.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments appreciated.

Wow!!  We sure are having unpredictable weather.  Rain, 5+ inches of snow, more rain, no snow, temperatures in the 40’s.  What will February and March bring?  Hopefully, nothing too much.  We’ve really been lucky so far.   Will the ground hog see his shadow?   From what I saw on the map, the week doesn’t look all that bad…..so far.  It changes pretty fast.

Good luck, Tyler McGuire.  He will be starting his Spring/Summer internship (co-op) at Lockheed Martin in Liverpool, NY (near Syracuse), on Monday, the 6th.  He will go back to R.I.T. in Rochester, NY, in the Fall for his Senior year.

The article on the UFO I put in last week’s issue had a “goof”.  It should have said March.   Interesting article in the book we have on Pennsylvania UFO’s.   There is some scary stuff going on out there.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Weather was in their favor this time.

Happy Birthday to Tyler McGuire, 2nd; and Dee Whatley, 4th.  Have a nice day.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  Hoping for snow for some things and some really good ice for the toboggan slide in Eagles Mere.  So far haven’t had much luck.

Can’t think of anything more so will close for this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 26, 2023 by Bob McGuireJanuary 26, 2023

Well, woke up to a good snow storm from overnight and still snowing lightly.  I’m sure at least three inches.  We really don’t need that.  Schools closed in most places and a good day to stay in and bake, do a puzzle or read a book.  It’s pretty messy out there.  The trees and bushes are covered with snow.  Looks very pretty, but don’t care for it.  It’s windy and hope we don’t lose power.  I did hear there is another potential storm coming on Wednesday.  Have to wait and see.

Joe and Jack Caccia, Elmira, NY, visited Will Durland in Dushore on Monday.  He and Jack were Air Force buddies and they had a nice time talking about their time in the service.  Will had seen, in my news,  that Joe and Jack had visited us.  He contacted us, we contacted Jack with phone number, and they made plans to get together.  Good times.

Got a hint from a neighbor.  She said to save your pizza boxes and use them in the bottom of your garbage can.  If your bag happens to leak, it will go on the box rather than get the can ikky.  Thanks, Barb, for that hint.

The first meeting for the Civic Association will be on Wednesday, April 19. 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Mark your calendar now and maybe we can start planning things for the summer months.

Since eggs are so expensive right now, here are a couple of substitutions:  1 tsp baking soda and 1 TBSP baking soda.  Also, one fourth cup of applesauce can be used.  (I use applesauce instead of shortening.)  There sure are a lot of jokes going around about eggs right now.  I’ve seen so many on Face Book.  Hopefully, the prices will eventually come down.

Happy Birthday to Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot Laird, 28th; Lisa Burke and Jason Burke, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

And, now a question for our readers.  Does anyone remember anything about the UFO incident at the Benton Air Force Base on Mary 5, 1965?

That’s all for now.  Enjoy your week.  Probably will have to do some shoveling.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Have a great week and I’ll be here next time.

Wow!!  It sure has been frigid and windy.  I guess it is winter.  We did have a couple of sunny days, but still cold.  I hear there may be a potential  winter storm coming on Thursday.  See if we do.  I’m hoping not, but we do have the rest of January, February and March to put up with.   We have been lucky so far with no major storms.

I had a nice phone conversation with Carole Kilgus on Monday.  She said they are very happy where they are.  They have no snow; had some rain.  She, Kevin and Teri are getting settled in the new home.  She said she does miss Sullivan County and sends her love and best wishes to every one here.

Don’t have a lot of news.  Haven’t been out and about to see who else is out and about.  Was a shame that the sleigh rally couldn’t be held over the weekend.  Hopefully, the 4th of February there will be enough snow to make that event happen.  Don’t know about the Eagles Mere Toboggan slide, but there hasn’t been a lot of really cold weather to make the ice.  Maybe there’s still time.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may or may not take place.

Happy Birthday to Jim Rouse, 21st; Irene (Huray) Pequignot, 22nd;  Mike Stavisky, down there in warm Florida, 24th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Alex and Ginny Stavisky, 22nd; Al and Jeannie Kapler, 23rd.  Hope you all have a fantastic day.

I guess there is still some kind of hunting season going on.  Good luck to all the hunters out there.

Guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  See what kind of weather we do get.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for the comments, good or bad.  Appreciate all of them.

Hope you’re enjoying this weather.  It seems unreal that it’s this warm for January.  We may have some snow/rain showers during the week, but I don’t think anything major on the way.   Been seeing some pheasants now and then around town.  They are a pretty bird, so must be the males.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and many friends of Leo McDonald who passed away on the 2nd.  The funeral was held on the 7th at St. Basil’s Church with interment in the Parish cemetery.   Leo was a friend to so many; always with a smile; always ready to help anyone he could.  He will be so missed by all who knew him.

Had a nice visit on Tuesday with Bill and Linda Pfeiffer, Hughesville, when they stopped by.

Congratulations to Eloise Caseman, another news reporter, on her winning pie at the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg.  She placed fifth out of seventy-two entries.  That’s pretty amazing.

Weather permitting and in our favor, there are still things that will be going on late January, early March.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to check on what’s going on and when.

B’s guys say Happy Birthday to Tyler Higley as he celebrates on the 13th.  Have a good day. Did you realize that’s a Friday this year.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Mary Lowden as they celebrate on the 17th.  Enjoy your day.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  With the nice weather, it almost feels like you can dig in the garden or flower bed.  The grass is pretty green too.  Just get out and breathe; go for a walk.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  If you’d like a birthday or anniversary listed on my calendar, please let me know

Lopez, PA Posted on January 9, 2023 by Bob McGuireJanuary 9, 2023

Can you believe this weather?  Temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s this time of year.  Doesn’t look like anything but rain coming for the next couple of weeks.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and Santa was good to you.  Have a Happy, Healthy New Year.  Let’s hope its a good one.  Christmas decorations are going down.  Now, I guess, it will be time to decorate for Valentine’s Day.

I missed a few birthdays the end of December, so hope you all had a great day!

Civic Association would like to thank Janet Sell, Macungie, and Dave Tregea, Grantville, for their generous donations to Cold Spring.  They get water from there when they’re in the area.  If you’d like to donate, you may do so by sending yours to LCA, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.

There will be no Civic meetings until the third Wednesday in March, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Weather should be good by then.  Membership dues are due and can be paid to Heather McDonald.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent New Year’s holiday in Newton, MA, and helped Nina’s Nan (Christine Gentile) celebrate her 100th birthday.  There was an open house for this great lady and she’s doing really well.  The city of Newton gave her a citation stating December 31st will forever be Christine Gentile Day.  St. Mary of  Carmen Society gave her a lifetime achievement plaque.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jeannie Kapler and Alex Stavisky, 4th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th; and John McDonald, Jr., 9th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver on the 12th.  Many more good years.

Will probably start seeing more folks coming around as the weather gets nicer.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things going on around the County.  Still some activities going on, if the weather cooperates.  You may be interested in participating or just watching.

Joe and Jack Caccia, Elmira, NY, visited Bob and JoAnn McGuire on Saturday.  They were surprised how much snow we still have around.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, even if you need your boots.  Temperatures are to be half decent.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 22, 2022 by Bob McGuireDecember 22, 2022

We did have some snow on Thursday.  Was heavy and wet and got about 5 inches, maybe more, depending on where you measured.  I did hear there may be another storm coming this week.  Hope not too bad.  There will be lots of people traveling over the Christmas and New Year holidays and don’t need a lot of delays or accidents.  Have to keep an eye to the sky and go day by day.

Many thanks to Mildred American Legion Post 452 for their generous donation of the wreaths, for Wreaths Across America, for our three cemeteries here in Lopez.  They are fresh wreaths and look nice against the white snow.  These wreaths were placed at the Veterans graves on Saturday, the 17th.  Those who placed wreaths included:  John and Jerff Hoodak and Mike Stavisky at SS Peter & Paul Byzantine Cemetery; Mike Stavisky, Jim Sysock, Craig Kachmarcky, John Delovich, Richard and Rose Bizup, Jim and Jean Patson Minarsky and Kevan and Julie Vanderpool Williams at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery.  They would also like to thank the Township men for plowing the cemetery parking lot.  They also plowed at SS Peter & Paul.  Bob McGuire placed wreaths at EUB Cemetery and Clair Johnson placed them at Ellis Cemetery.  Thanks to all for your help.

Happy belated  First Birthday on the 17th to Austin Michael Stavisky, son of Michael and Becky Stavisky, Tequesta, FL.  He is also the grandson of Alex and Ginny Stavisky, Palm Bay, FL and Lopez.  Hope he had a great day.

There are no Civic meetings until into the New Year.  Hopefully, the first one will be held on the third Wednesday of March, weather permitting.  Keep an eye on the Sully for more information.  Membership dues can still be given to Heather McDonald.

There may still be activities that will be going on in the County, if Mother Nature helps.  Hoping for the Eagles Mere toboggan slide, but need very cold weather to make the ice.  This hasn’t been happening for the past few years.  Maybe this time.  Hoping for some snow for the annual sleigh ride in Dushore.  That’s always a fun thing to attend.  There will be more information on these as they get closer.

This is the last Sully of 2022.  Thanks to John, Chris and the Sully staff for the good work they do in putting out this little County paper and letting us reporters put our thoughts on paper.   I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year.  Enjoy and remember the “reason for the season”.  See you in 2023.

This is going to be short and sweet.  I’m in bed with a miserable cold.  I do know that Santa visited the good little boys and   girls of :Lopez at the Church Hall on Sunday afternoon.  Thanks to Jodi Brumwell and her crew who put this together for all to have a good time.  Good food was there to enjoy too. Games were played by all who attended.   Before Santa left, he gave each boy and girl a little gift.

Our weather for the week doesn’t look too good.  Lots of rain and snow showers, but it can change quickly.

There are only two issues of the Sully left for this year.  Hardly seems possible that 2022 is almost gone.

Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Got last minute shopping to do; got your cookies to make; will be a good time to do those things.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238 and I will get it in for you.  You can also snail mail me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.    Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Weather was brisk, windy and sometimes cold.  Sun looked good, from inside.  We had some frost and Saturday was a really wet day with rain most of the day, heavy at times.  Looks like the week’s weather isn’t to be too good, but we gotta take what we get.  We’ve been very lucky so far.  Temperatures aren’t usually this warm for December.

Thanks to Vito Arcaro, Kathy and Les Isett, Maggie and Jason Brumwell, along with Bob and I, who got the Christmas decorating done at the Monument.  Will look good when the lights are turned on.  Good job to all.  Was a little nippy, but we did it.

Just a reminder:  St. Vladimir’s Church has sold out of pierogies and will NOT be making any until Spring.

Congratulations to those who got their deer.  I heard there are a few who did just that.  Good luck to the rest of the hunters as you go out into the woods.

Boy!  Hardly seems possible that Christmas is just around the corner.  Have you seen the really great Christmas displays around town?   Santa will be watching all the little boys and girls to see if they’ve been nice so he can stop at their house.  Make sure you have your milk and cookies ready for him.

Happy Birthday wishes to Dylan Amon, 13th; Noah Brown, 14th; Carter Vermiere, 17th; and Rev Mother Christophora, 19th, along with Christian Santarelli the same day.  Hope you all have an enjoyable day.

There’s probably still some things that will be going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully and check Face Book too.

Guess that’s it.  If you have news and you’d like it in the paper, please let me know by calling 570-928-9238; USPS mail; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 4, 2022 by Bob McGuireDecember 4, 2022

Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, whatever they did and wherever they were.  The weather for Saturday was great!  Sunday was not so nice.  It rained most of the day, then turned to pouring rain late afternoon into late evening.  Glad it was not snow.  The weather for most of the week is rain and snow showers.  Guess we’ve been pretty lucky so far.

Tyler McGuire saw a bald eagle fly over Church Street when he came up to see us on Friday.  Was pretty cool.  He returned to RIT in Rochester, NY, on Sunday, after Thanksgiving break on Wednesday.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  December 4th will be the last until Spring when they make them again.  To order call 570-928-8909.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski enjoyed a few days over Thanksgiving with her family in Boston, MA.

Civic Association says Thanks so much to Ellen Boland, from Monroeton, for her generous donation for Cold Spring up-keep.   If you’d like to donate, you can send it to P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.

Distinguished Honor Roll recipients include Miles Baton; Kyleigh McDonald; Ruby Malkemes; Kaeleigh McDonald; Bruno Day; and Enrico Capriotti.

Honor Roll recipients are Makayla Day; Izabella Capriotti; and Adrianna Capriotti.  Congratulations to all of you for a job well done.

Any lucky deer hunters out there?  I saw a lot of hunters out and about but don’t know if they bagged their “prize” or not.  Good luck.

Happy Birthday to Aaron Risser, 9th; Alexis Musani, 10th.

Saw lots of activity at Tent City the last few days.  Hope there were some hunters in the bunch.  Good luck if you’re out.

Think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy the week, whatever your plans.  Should still be nice enough to get out and take a walk just to get some fresh air.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; USPS mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

BRRRRR!!  As I sit here very early Monday morning, typing my news, it is a “balmy” 7 degrees.  That’s right SEVEN degrees.  The weather report says temperatures in the 40’s for the week.  Sure hope so.  It has been very cold and windy most of the week  No snow to speak of and temperatures didn’t make it much past 25 degrees during the day.  I guess Mother Nature is trying to tell us it’s “that time of year” and we have to deal with it.   I saw fifteen turkeys in the field across the street the other day.  Haven’t seen any for quite some time so was a nice surprise.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!  Hope you all have/had a nice day with family and friends.  Please take a minute to give thanks to those departed who cannot be with us this year.  Pray for those who are away and fighting for the freedom that we have to celebrate this special day.

After their recent, exciting, trip to Florida to visit family and friends, Jerry and Barbara welcomed a new family member to their home on Lilac Lane — a cat named Calliope.  She is getting along fine with Dixie dog in her new forever home.

I guess deer season is coming in right after Thanksgiving.  Good luck hunters.   Maybe some other up-coming events you may be interested in.  Check the Sully and Face Book for these happenings.

There will be no more Civic meetings until the month of March.  Enjoy the Holidays.   Membership dues are now due.  See Heather McDonald to renew or to join.

The Civic thanks the Macort family from Lansdale for their very generous donation for Cold Spring.  They go there often and said the water is great!  If you’d like to donate, you can do so by sending it to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 224, Lopez, PA  18628.  Thank you in advance.

Here’s a “recipe” I found for Magic Oven Cleaner:  Mix 2 oz. of Dawn dish detergent, 4 oz. bottled lemon juice, 8 oz. white vinegar and 10 oz. of water and put in a spray bottle.  Spray on the oven surface and leave overnight.  Wipe clean with wet cloths to remove residue.  DO NOT use heat in the oven.  The secret is to let it sit, then wipe with clean towels.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 570-928-8909 to order and can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.   Get them now; they won’t be made again until Spring.

Happy Birthday to Jaeden Patson; 20th; Serenity Laird and Reese Baton, 23rd; and Cassidy Brown, 30th.  December birthdays include Kevin Partington, 4th; Elexus Dunkleberger, 6th; Robyn McCobin, 8th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Hardly seems possible that November is almost gone.  Time flies by so quickly.   Christmas decorations are going up.   They are starting to look very festive.

The Civic Association will be decorating for Christmas at the Monument and Pavilion on Sunday, the 27th at 10:30 a.m.  If you’d like to help, feel free to do so.  The more hands, the faster the job is done.

That’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in.  Stay safe; stay warm and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for reading.

We sure had some up and down weather.  We had rain, wind and cold.  Friday was a heavy rain all day.  Sure raised the creeks and streams and the temperature was 65 degrees.  Can you believe that for November!  Saturday, rain again.  Sunday we had the “white stuff” and very windy.  Only 36 degrees most of the day.   I heard we may get some more “white stuff” during the week.  YUK!!   Guess we gotta put up with it; can’t do anything about it.

I apologize for the goof if last week’s paper concerning the Halloween party.  It was Mary Lowden, not Pat Arcaro who was a judge.  Sorry, ladies for the mix up and was glad it was brought to my attention so I could correct it.

Thank you for some anonymous donations for up-keep of Cold Spring.  They are appreciated.  Anyone wishing to donate may do so by sending it to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 224, Lopez, PA  18628.   Every little bit helps.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Happy Anniversary to TY and Alison Lowden as they celebrate on the 17th.  Have a great day!

Happy Birthday to Mike McDonald and Alek Laird, both on the 19th.  Enjoy your day.

Congratulations, Ted Lowden, on winning the gun from the White Ash raffle.

Still may be some things that will be going on in the County.  Check the Sully and FB and see if there’s something you may be interested in.  Things are starting to wind down, but there are usually a couple things that take place.

Guess that’s about it.  I see Halloween decorations are going down and Christmas decorations going up.  At least I did see one big, blow up turkey on a lawn.   Enjoy your week; may need the boots or shovel, but hope not yet.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Stay safe; stay warm; I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

We’ve had some pretty nice days.  Can’t believe it’s 60 degrees in November.  Halloween night was perfect weather for the Civic party at the Pavilion.  Thanks to Jodi Brumwell and her “crew” for doing a good job.  Thanks to everyone who donated in any way so the kids could have a good time.  The judges, Pat Arcaro, Linda Beaver and Linda Patson had a tough time with the winners, but they got it done.  Winners were:  Age 0-2 years:  Cutest – Roseleigh and Willow Nitcznski; Funniest – CC Stasiak; Most Original – Castiel Williams.  Age 3-5 years:  Cutest – Jase Lowden; Funniest – Everlyn Brumwell; Scariest – Eli Ritinski; Most Original – Deacon Burke.  Ages 6-10:  Cutest – Emelia Williams; Funniest – Xander Kapler; Scariest – Layla Durland; Most Original – Grayson Schiele.  Ages 11-13:  Cutest – Kyleigh McDonald; Funniest – Carter Vermeire; Scariest – Cameron Murray; Most Original – Miles Baton. Best Family Costume was the Stasiak/ Nitcznski families.  All enjoyed hot dogs, treats and drinks.  Thanks to Bill Stasiak and Adam Ritinski for the hay rides around town for the kids to get treats from folks with their porch light on.  Thanks to all!!

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and  third Sunday of the month.  Order by calling 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 16th; 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Membership dues still being taken.  See Heather McDonald to renew or to join.

Had a nice phone call from Ronnie Schoonover who now lives in Black Walnut, PA, but was very involved in Sullivan County in the early years.  He had a couple bands and played many different places and still loves the County.  He is 81 years old now and still does play for certain events.  Read my column and ordered two Lopez decals.  One for him and one he sent to his brother in California.  Thanks, Ronnie.

I see there is activity at Tent City for a few days.  Weather sure has been in their favor.

Happy Birthday to Brian McGuire, 11th; Mr. Ferdie Marek will be 97 years young on the 12th; Aiden Sperry, 13th.  Hope you all have a good day.

Don’t forget that November 11th is Veteran’s Day.  Take a moment to honor those who are not with us any more.  If you see a Vet, thank him for his service.

Things are kinda winding down for the County now.  Keep an eye on the Sully to see if there might still be something going on that you would be interested in.  You can also check Face Book for that too.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  I hear the weather is to be pretty good with temperatures in the 60’s again.  Sure will take that.  Just hope we don’t get blitzed with a “big” storm after that.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Take care and I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the many Halloween activities that were going on.  The weekend was perfect.  We did start out with quite a lot of early morning frost, but got nicer as the day went on.  Of course, the wind was still with us.  Supposed to be better for the week.

ALERT:  Don’t forget to change your clocks ONE HOUR back on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.  Don’t like that idea at all, but gotta do what we gotta do.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with daughter, Nina, and Brian McGuire.  They enjoyed the Halloween party that Nina and Brian hosted, along with many other friends who were also there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Can be ordered by calling 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.  Can be picked up from Noon to one p.m. at the Church Hall.

Happy Birthday wishes to Tim Bullis, November 5th; Devon DeSanto, 6th; Teri Bullis, 7th; and Grayson Burke, 8th.  Have a good day.

DON’T FORGET TO GET OUT AND VOTE ON THE 8th.  It’s your right.  Don’t complain if you don’t vote.

I don’t know if there are many activities going on now in the County.  You can check the Sully or Face Book to see if there might be.  Things are winding down now.

John McDonald, Worthington, MA, and a friend of his, spent a few days recently here at the cabin to do some muzzle loader hunting.  He was one of the lucky hunters while he was here.  They also visited his Mother, JoAnn McDonald in Sayre.  Short, but nice visit.

Guess that’s all I have for this time.  Be sure to enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Colder weather is on the way.  I’m hoping Mother Nature will be good to us this winter.  Have heard all kinds of predictions and see all different “wooly bears”, so we’ll just have to take what we get.

Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me USPS; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Thought I would pass this along to those of you who have chickens:  add cayenne pepper to your chicken feed to have them lay more eggs in the winter.  Don’t know if it works, but try it and let me know.

Lopez decals are going fast.  Get yours before they’re gone.  They are oval in two colors.  One decal is white with black lettering.  The other decal is green with white lettering.  $3.00 each.  Contact me below if interested.

I see there was a lot of activity at Tent City over the weekend.  Was a little chilly, but they still have a nice time while they are here.

Happy Birthday to Makayla Day, 27th; Lydia Spinosa, 28th; Leo McDonald and Misty Pequignot, 31st.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Marty and Dee Whatley as they celebrate on the 27th.  Congrats and enjoy your day.

Hardly seems possible that October is almost gone.  Just seemed like not too long ago we were trying to have some summer weather.  Let’s hope we don’t get a really bad winter this year.  What is “bad”?   Some say a little snow is bad, some same a lot of snow is bad.  I’d like none if it could happen.  Just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.

That’s the news.  Enjoy your week.  Looks to be nice.  Have news, call me by 6 p.m. on Sunday evening at 570-928-9238; snail mail me; see me; or e-mail me at  news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  If you have any birthdays or anniversaries that you’d like me to report, please let me know details.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 22, 2022 by Bob McGuireOctober 22, 2022

Well, the weather is starting to cool down.  We had some more frosty days and the wind is always around.  We did have a nice weekend with lots of sunshine, so that felt good.  The week is to be fairly nice from what I’ve seen, but you know that can change in an instant.

FLASH —  Meet at the Lopez Pavilion on October 31st at 6pm for refreshments, snacks and a children’s costume contest. Traditional Trick or Treating. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your flashlight and bring your own camera for the photo booth. Come out for a Spooktacular time!!!  Please leave your porch light on if you want trick or treaters to stop.  (There will be NO hayride.)

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They are available at the Church Hall and can be picked up between Noon and 1 p.m.  Call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803 to place your order.

Happy Birthday to Aine Lee McDonald, 21st; and Marty Whatley, 25th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Kevin and Teri (Kilgus) Bullis, 20th; Bruce and Helen Amon, 24th; and Tom and Kristin Iwancio, 25th.  Have a great day.

Activities are starting to dwindle, but may be more coming up, so watch the Sully or Face Book for things going on that you might be interested in.

Lopez decals still available.  $3.00 each.  Contact me if interested.  Benefit Lopez Civic Association.

Can’t think of anything more to report.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Get out, take a walk, breathe in that fresh air before it gets too cold.  Have news, give me a call, by Sunday at 6 p.m., at 570-928-9238; snail mail; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Take care.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

It was really a nice weekend for those activities that were going on.  Was nice to have no rain for a change.  Was still a bit windy and Sunday morning went down to 25 degrees and we had a nice frost on the pumpkins.   I hope you all got your garden produce inside so it didn’t get hit.   Did warm up during the day, but the wind was rather chilly when sitting outside.  I sure hope we get some more warm weather.  I haven’t seen any geese so far or heard any.  They must be sneaking by when I’m not watching.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent some time at their home here and enjoyed the nice weather and getting things done at the house.

Thank you to Alex and Ginny Stavisky for their generous donation to the Civic Association to help with up-keep of Cold Spring.  Much appreciated.  Check out the sign that has been placed at Cold spring and tells you how you can donate to this good cause.  There are a lot of local and not local people that get their water from there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803 to order.  Can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Dues are now due.  See Heather McDonald to pay yours or to become a member.

I still have some Lopez decals for those of you interested.  One is a black oval and the other is a green oval, both on white background.  Price is $3.00 each and supports the Civic Association.

Happy Birthday to  Tom Iwancio and Mickey Bednar, 13th; Brad Hubiak and Bob Burke, 14th; Josh Anderson and Ken Smith, 17th; and Marie Cikovic, 19th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Fay Puzo as they celebrate on the 14th.  Enjoy your day.

There are still things going on, so keep an eye on the Sully and also Face Book.

Hardly seems possible that October is almost gone. Halloween is fast approaching and I see a lot of cute decorations on my walks around town. Don’t like the colder weather that is coming, but maybe Mother Nature will be nice to us this year.

I did not know this.  Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes and excellent salve for burns?  Learn something new every day.  Will have to try that.  Not that I want to get burned, but if I do, I will see what happens.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  I did hear sunshine and nice until Thursday when the rain may come again.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for your.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

HERE IS LOPEZ COLD SPRING GUSHING THE BEST WATER IN THE COUNTY.

THE LOPEZ CIVIC ASSOCIATION WORKS TO KEEP IT GOING AND IT TAKES EFFORT AND MONEY.

THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT HELP AND THOSE THAT CONTRIBUTE.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 5, 2022 by Bob McGuireOctober 5, 2022

Hope you all are enjoying the brisk, windy, rainy, and sometimes sunny weather.    The wind is never ending.  I don’t really like what Mother Nature has in store, but we can’t do anything about it.  I did hear that the week is to be warm, with NO rain and temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s.  I’ll take that as long as we get it.   We had a couple of straggler humming birds who stopped to get “juiced” up for the trip South.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent Saturday at her home here on Church Street.  Had a nice visit with her cousin, Lola and Mike Mattie who came up from Forty Fort to spend some time.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  The can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Membership dues are now due.  See Heather McDonald to renew yours or to become a member.

Happy Belated birthday to Elizabeth Kapler; 1st; Joe Fanning, Kyleigh McDonald; 2nd.  Hope you had a good day.

Happy Birthday wishes to Gwen Hontz and Dylon Pequignot, 7th; Leah Elizabeth Risser, Ryan Weisbrod, 8th; and Sally Bender, 12th.  Have a good day to all of you.

I found a unique use for Preparation H.  For puffiness under your eyes, all you need is a dab carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes.  The ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling.  Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Happy Anniversary to Tony and Donna Cikovic who celebrated on the 2nd.  Congratulations and hope you had a great day.

There are still events going on in October.  Check the Sully and Face Book to see what you may be interested in.  We may get some Indian Summer yet.  Can hope.

That’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  I’ll be here next time.
