Cold!  Cold!  Cold!  Had some mighty bitey temperatures during the week.  I don’t think it got out of the teens all week.  I did see it hit 23 degrees on Sunday afternoon for about five minutes and then dropped.   I was surprised when walking on Friday (19th) to see a big flock of geese going South.  Guess they thought it was nice enough to wait and now decided it is too cold.    Last I heard, temperatures are to go up but with wintry mix and rain for most of the week.  Guess that’s better than the teens, but could be warmer.

Mark you calendar so you remember.  The next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, 20 March, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  No meeting in February.

Something to share that I did not know.  Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.  Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.  I never really look at the bottom of the pepper.

I see on Face Book that some brave souls are ice fishing on the lakes and ponds.  Be very careful and make sure it is thick enough before going out on the ice.  Don’t want any accidents.

I hope that everyone who has animals is taking good care of them and seeing that they are warm and out of the cold.  They mind the cold as much as some of us adults do.

Congratulations to Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald for Distinguished Honor Roll for the first marking period.  If you live in Lopez and also made the Honor Roll, please let me know and I will gladly put it in my news.  The School didn’t send anything over to the Sully, so I don’t know who did make it.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events you may be interested in.

Happy Birthday to Anna Williams and Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot-Laird, 28th; Lisa Burke and Jason Burke, 30th.  Have a nice day.

I guess that’s it.  With the cold, snowy weather, lots of folks are staying close to the home fires.  Enjoy your week, whatever it is you may do.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

WOW!!   As I sit her typing my news on Sunday afternoon, it is 19 degrees, the wind is whipping like crazy, the sun is shining, but it’s BITTER cold out.   Had some snow turn to rain during the week and it melted the snow we had.  Winter is sure upon us.  Supposed to be a cold week, with temperatures in the teens for night time lows.   From looking at the reports on Buffalo, I can’t imagine what they are going through there.  Saw pictures on Face Book and you could hardly see the trucks trying to keep ahead.  It’s wicked up there, so we are lucky so far.  And, we haven’t lost power like some areas did.  Mother Nature can quit any time and give us some nicer weather.

As Gordon Papke used to say, “Spring is just around the corner.”  Haven’t found that corner yet.

Not too much news to report.   Don’t see too many people out and about but do see Jerry often when we both are going for the mail.  Always have a nice visit with him.

Happy Birthday to Irene (Huray) Pequignot, 22nd; and Mike Stavisky down there in FL, 24th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Alex and Ginny Stavisky, 22nd; and Al and Jeannie Kapler, 23rd.  Have a fantastic day.

A good way to soothe sore muscles, cramps, bruises and joint pain is to soak in an Epsom salt bath.  Also great for an after workout soak.  Add 2 cups of salts to a warm bath.  Mix the salt so it dissolves in the water and soak 10-15 minutes.  Nice way to relax and relieve stress.

There are still some things going on around the area, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what you may be interested in.

The Che-Hanna Mineral Club show will be coming up in March, so watch for details in the Sully and Face Book on that.  Will be the 54th annual show.  Good time for everyone.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  If you have news you’d like in the paper, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Stay warm.  Stay safe out there.

Hope all of you Orthodox folks had a Merry Christmas on Sunday.  Mother Nature sure provided you with lots of snow.  It started on Saturday afternoon and didn’t quit until Sunday, late morning.  There were totals of 4-10 inches, depending on where you live.  It was quite windy on Sunday too.  I didn’t see much activity over the weekend.  Did see some shoveling, plowing and the neighbors did some sledding on the hill across the street.  Even saw my neighbor, Kyleigh McDonald,  had made a real cute snowman.

The week’s weather doesn’t look all that great.  Lots of snow showers and maybe some rain mixed in.  Have to watch and see and hope it doesn’t get too bad for school or work travel.  I guess winter is finally with us.

If you’d like to join the Civic Association, please contact Kathy Isett, Secretary, at 610-413-6439 and let her know.  Only costs a buck for one year.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed.  Melt Andes mints in a double broiler and pour over warm brownies.  Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.  They sound yummy.

Hope everyone is well.  I know there is a lot of viruses going around again and hope they stay away from you.  No fun being under the weather.

Happy Birthday wishes to Tyler Higley, 13th. Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver, 12th and Ted and Mary Lowden, 17th.  Have a great day.

We still have a few of the 2022 and 2023 Lopez mugs left.  One is Squire Dunn’s Store and the other is Nessy at the pond.  Check out lopezpa.com to take a look and place an order, if interested.  Or call Bob at the number below.

I think there are still activities coming up so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what you may be interested in.  Some fun, winter things, I think.  Me, I’m waiting for Spring.  Don’t forget, too, there are many restaurants, Legions and pubs that are offering some pretty good food.  Support them, if you can, and enjoy a good meal.

Congratulations to Eloise Caseman, the Shunk reporter, on her winnings at the PA Farm Show over the weekend.  Her pie that was shown on Face Book was absolutely perfect.   Love reading her news, especially her joke at the end of her column.

Don’t think I have anything else to report right now.  Enjoy your week.  May need the snow shovel a couple of times, but it is winter.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Happy, Healthy New Year.  Let’s hope it’s a good one.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many friends of  Willowmea  (Will) Hoover who passed away on the 21st of December.  She was certainly loved and will be very much missed by all who knew her.

We had some heavy rain a couple of days.  Was just miserable, but temperatures were up.  Just glad it wasn’t snow.  Hardly seems like we are in to the month of January already.

Don’t have a whole lot of news yet.  Haven’t really talked to many people so far.

Will get out and about in the next week to see what’s going on.  I see some have taken their tree down and some have taken their displays and decorations down too.   The ones that are still out are looking really nice, especially when it’s dark and they are all lit up.

Happy Birthday to Jeannie Kapler and Alex Stavisky, 4th;   Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th and John McDonald, Jr., 9th.  Hope you all have a great day.

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes.  You can double it in size.  You get to frost more with the same amount and eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Seems like it may be nice, but a few snow showers on the way.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 26, 2023 by Bob McGuireDecember 26, 2023

We’ve had some pretty nice weather after some cool, frosty mornings.  Temperatures did get up to 40+ degrees.  We did have some rain and with the warm temperatures, the snow is almost gone.  Last I heard, the weather is to be fairly nice for the week.  Sure hope Santa has a plan to get around for Christmas if there is no snow for his sleigh.  He’s a pretty inventive guy, so I’m sure he’ll work something out.  All the boys and girls better be good for him to stop by.

Kids will be on Christmas break from the 20th until after New Year’s.  Please be watchful as there may be kids outside playing or riding bikes, etc. and we don’t want any accidents happening.  Just slow down and be alert.

The Civic Association thanks St. Vladimir’s Church for the use of the Church Hall for the kids Christmas party.  Was a good time for all.

Thank you to Mildred American Legion Post 452 for the third year sponsoring Wreaths Across America on Saturday, the 16th.  A large crowd was in attendance at St. Francis Hall for a service led by Tim Higley, Post Commander.   Wreaths were given out to those who were designated to put them on the various cemetery graves to honor the fallen heroes who “gave their all” to keep our country FREE!!   In Lopez, wreaths were placed at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, EUB Cemetery and Ellis Cemetery.    Thank you to everyone who participated.   Weather was perfect to place these wreaths.

Nina Weslowski and her Mom, Paula, from Allentown, spent a week in Boston helping out with Nina’s Nan (Paula’s Mom) as she had the misfortune to fall and break her wrist.  She’s coming along well for a “young” lady who will turn 101 on New Year’s Eve.

Happy Birthday wishes to Everlyn Brumwell, 21st; Kaeleigh McDonald and Lillie Ann Bahr, 23rd; and Ginny Stavisky, 31st.  Hope you all have a nice day.

To get rid of ants, put small piles of cornmeal where you see them.  They eat it, take it “home” and can’t digest it so they are killed.  May take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it does work and you don’t have to worry about harming pets or children.

Still got time to get that last minute shopping done.  Got your tree up and decorated; got the baking all done?  Time is passing by so quickly, Christmas will be here in the blink of an eye, so hope you’re ready.

There are still some things that will be going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to check them out.  Something might be of interest to you.

This will be the last Sully until after the New Year.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Shoemaker family and all of the Sully staff for the work they do in getting the paper out every week.   Christmas greetings to all who take the time to read my news and give me advice or compliments (good and bad).  I enjoy all the comments.  Hopefully 2024 will be a good year.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever it is that’s on your agenda.  I will see you in 2024.  Hope everyone is well and the flu bug stays away.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for the first issue of 2024.  Thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 15, 2023 by Bob McGuireDecember 15, 2023

I think we had our first “official” snow fall.  As I sit here typing my news at 6 a.m. Monday morning, the plow is going around taking care of the roads.  School is on a two hour delay.  Seems like a heavy, wet snow.   If you have to go out, take a little extra time and be safe out there.   We’ve really been lucky so far with just a few flurries off and on.  Sunday we had non-stop rain all day long.  Good thing that wasn’t snow.   It is that time of year so we have to put up with it.  I did hear it’s to warm up later in the week again.  Here is the “recipe for the sidewalk de-icer that you will be using soon, I imagine.  Mix 1 teaspoon of Dawn liquid, 1 tablespoon rubbing alcohol and one-half gallon of water.  Pour over your walkways and they won’t re-freeze.

On Friday, Les and Kathy Isett,  Rose Bizup, Cindy Neufer, Barbara Bell and myself got together to do the Christmas decorating at the Monument.  Weather was perfect to get the job done.  It does look really pretty with it all lit up.  Will stay until after Orthodox Christmas which is the 7th of January.  Enjoy as you drive down the snake into town and see what we have done.

I guess Saturday was a full day of fun for all the activities that were going on in Dushore.  I know everyone had a great time.

I guess hunting season is over for now.  Will resume after Christmas, from what I’ve been told.  There sure were lots of buck pictures in last week’s Sully so there were some lucky hunters.  Good luck to all on the next hunt.

The Christmas party for the Lopez kids was held on Sunday at the Orthodox Church Hall.  Was a fun time for all who gathered there.  Santa stopped by to hand out gifts to all the good little boys and girls.  Rudolph also made an appearance.  Thanks to Jodi Brumwell and all her helpers for the work they put into this to event again this year.

On Saturday, Bob and I went to a Christmas luncheon with a few of his classmates from Forty Fort High School.  This was held at Angelo’s in Wyoming.  Was great visiting with those we had not seen for some time and the weather was quite nice.

On Sunday, Bob and I attended the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral club party held at Wild Fire Grille and Bar in Towanda.  Despite the rain, everyone made it ok and all that were there had an enjoyable time.  At least it wasn’t snow.

Here’s something for everyone who hates to clean the bath tub.  Use 1 cup of Heinz Cleaning Vinegar and 1 cup of Blue (has to be Blue) Dawn.  Heat the vinegar and put into a spray bottle.  Add the Dawn and shake.  Will be a little thick.  Spray on the tub and leave it for an hour.  Rinse off.

Happy Birthday wishes to Carter Vermiere and Austin Stavisky, 17th; Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, 10th; Alyssa Pequignot, 20th.    Have a nice day.

I think there are still events going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to check them out.  Might be something you would be interested in.

There will be no Sully Christmas week, so if you have news, get it to me by Sunday, the 17th, to make that last issue.

Hope you all have your tree up, presents under the tree and your shopping and baking all done.  I know Santa is watching all the kids to see who’s been naughty and who’s been nice, so be on your best behavior, not only now but for the whole of 2024 too.

I guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your day.  Will probably need the boots and the shovel for a bit.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Weather has been so “iffy”.  It is that time of year and to be expected, but it’s up and down.  One day it did hit 53 degrees.  Saturday was a really nice day.  Sunday was a raw, cold, rainy day.   Good day to stay in and bake, read a book or do a puzzle.   The weather for the week is to be mostly cloudy with no rain predicted……. so far.  It changes from one day to the next.  Haven’t seen deer or any other animals here in our yard.  Hopefully they are hiding from the hunters.

Hope the hunters are having good luck with hunting.  I did hear it’s until the 9th, so still time to bag that buck.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few relaxing days at their home here.  Got some winter projects taken care of.

Remember, NO Civic meeting until March of 2024.

Got your Christmas shopping all done?  Got your cookies and nut roll all made?   Santa will be checking to see who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.    Hopefully all will be nice.

I see more nice decorations going up on my walks around town.  Very festive and makes you feel good to see the effort put into the decorating.

Did you know drinking two glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs.

Happy Birthday to Alexis Musani, 10th; and Noah Brown, 14th.  Hope you both have a nice day.

Can’t think of much more, so guess that’s for for now.  Enjoy your week.  No need for snow boots yet, I don’t think.  Maybe a heavier jacket and gloves.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.  Hope the hunters had luck getting whatever they went for.  I know of some that were lucky and some not, so far.  Good luck to all.  What a dark, cold, windy day on Sunday.  Temperature was 39 degrees, but sure didn’t feel it.  Felt like it was going to snow at any time. It did rain, starting about 5:30 p.m,    Hopefully some warmer weather yet on the way.  Getting too late for that now, I think.

There will be no Civic meetings until March of 2024.  None because of Christmas and January and February the weather is usually not in our favor.

Did you know water at bedtime helps prevent leg cramps?  Leg muscles need hydration.

Foggy windshield?  Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove compartment.  Window the window fogs, rub with the eraser.  Gonna have to try that.

Happy Birthday to Kevin Partington, December 4th; Elexus Dunkleberger, 6th; Robyn McCobin, 8th and Aaron Risser, 9th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

I see folks are getting their Christmas decorations up and they are looking pretty nice.

The Civic Association will be decorating at the Monument and Pavilion on Sunday, the 3rd of December at 1 p.m.  If you’d like to help, show up and give a hand.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Getting your shopping done for Christmas?  There are a lot of places right in Sullivan County to get some pretty nice gifts.  Shop local and support those businesses.  We still have a few of the 2022 and 2023 Lopez mugs available.  They make nice gifts.  If interested, contact me below.

Not much to report.  Haven’t really been out and about much so far.

That’s about it this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may be doing.  Let’s hope no shoveling.  Just not ready for that yet.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Stay warm; stay well.

Hope you all enjoyed the nice weather we had last week.  Even though it started out pretty frosty, by afternoon the temperature went up to 60 degrees and the sun was nice.  From what I’ve seen, Thanksgiving week is to be pretty nice also.  Still don’t see too many deer or turkey.  Haven’t even seen a bear lately, but that’s fine with me.

Sympathy to Ruth Kale, her family, relatives and many friends on the passing of David Kale on the 8th.  They were long time residents of Lopez and involved in many things that went on in the County.   They had moved away, due to his health, but he will be remembered.

Congratulations to Charles Armioia and Bryson Charles for being recognized in the Northern Tier Career Center, where they attend specialized classes.

Early Sunday morning, Barbara, down on Lilac Lane, had a large red fox walk right by her kitchen window.   Also, she would like to remind Sullivan County Veterans that they can adopt a dog at The Animal Sanctuary in Milan for FREE!  Just call Sylvia at 570-596-2200 and she will hook you up with an adorable pet for the holidays.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Did you know if you drink one glass of water 30 minutes before meals, it helps in digestion?   Good to know, I guess.

Tyler McGuire is enjoying his Thanksgiving break here, from RIT, Rochester, NY, with his Dad, Bob, Jr., us, Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski.

Hoping for nice weather while he is here.

Good luck hunters.  Hope you get whatever you go out for.

Happy Birthday to Serenity Laird and Reese Baton, 23rd; Parker Schiele, 24th; and Cassidy Brown, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Here’s a cool treat:  Leftover Snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert.  Simply chop them up with a food chopper.  Peel, core and slice a few apples.  Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.  Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.   (If you have any Snickers bars left from Halloween.)

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent Wednesday to Sunday in Boston, MA, and enjoyed Thanksgiving with her family, especially her Nan, who is soon going to be 101 years young.  God Bless this special woman.

Hopefully everyone is in good health and not being hit with the flu mug or any other germ that may be going around.  Stay well, everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.  Enjoy your time with family and friends.  Do take time to pray for all those that cannot be with us that day.   They may be service members or working their job, but we thank them.

Enjoy your week whatever it is you may do.  I know Thursday will be a busy day for a lot of folks.  I hear that hunters will be out right after that, so be alert.  If you’re out walking along the trails or by the woods, wear orange so they don’t think you’re something they can shoot.  Be safe, everyone.

Guess that’s it for this time.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Can’t put your news in if you don’t give it to me.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

We had some really nice weather during the week.  Got up to the 60 degree mark.  Cool, frosty mornings.  Sunday temperature was 17 degrees.  Ouch!!  Never got up past 31 degrees all day long.  Not a good sign.  I did hear that this week will be warm again.  I’ll take it.   Still don’t see many deer or turkeys.  Maybe they are hiding from the hunters.  If you are a hunter, Good Luck.  I haven’t seen any hunters, but I know they are out there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 15th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Dues for 2024 are now due.  See Heather McDonald.  If they aren’t paid before December 31st, you will no longer be a member and have to start over to become a member.

Birthday wishes to Alek Laird and Mike McDonald, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to TJ and Allison Lowden as they celebrate on the 19th.  Have a great day.

There are still events going on around the County.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what, where and when.  You may be interested.

We still have some 2022 and 2023 Lopez mugs for sale.  Check the website to see availability and ordering, or give me a call at the number below.  We’ve had quite a few really nice comments on the 2023 (Nessie) mug.  Jim Stenerson was at his home on Dutch Mountain and had a relative visiting from MA.  She loved his Nessie and stopped by to purchase one.   Will keep you posted as to when the 2024 mug will be available.  That will be the last one to the set.

Hope everyone is doing well and not bothered with the flu bug or cold.  It’s that time of year, but with the heavy frost early in the morning, maybe the bugs are all dead.  We can hope so, so that everyone stays well.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans may be.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.  Comments always welcome.

Weather seemed  pretty nice, off and on.  Had some cool, frosty days during the week and then some warm, sunny days where the temperature hit the 50 degree mark.  Last I heard, we are to have some nice weather for the week again.  Sounds good to me.   We can only hope the nice weather stays around for a while yet.  Did you remember to turn your clocks back?   Did you remember to get out and vote?   Hope you remembered both of those things.

The Halloween party held at the Pavilion on Halloween night was very well attended and all had a good time.  There were a lot of decorations, lots of treats and goodies; hot chocolate;  hot coffee and even a fire to keep warm by.  Winners for the night included:   0 – 4:  Cutest – Anna Williams; Funniest – Willow Nitcznski; Scariest – Ceci Stasiak; Most Original – Roseleigh Nitcznski.  4 – 6:  Cutest – Everyln Brumwell; Funniest – Averie Bahr; Scariest – Eli Ritinski; Most Original – Deacon Burke.  7 – 9:  Cutest – Emerson Brumwell; Funniest – John Kapler; Scariest – Kessler Gilbert; Most Original – Emilia Williams.  10 – 12: Cutest – Layla Durland; Funniest – Xander Kapler; Scariest – Cam Murray; Most Original – Tessa Kapler.  Best Dressed Family was the Kapler’s.   Thank you to Jodi Brumwell and her “crew” who put this all together for a nice night for the kids.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Veterans Day coming up on the 11th.  Take time to thank a veteran.

Happy Birthday to Brian McGuire, 11th; Ferdie Marek who will be 98 years young on the 12th; Aiden Sperry, 13th; and Castiel Williams, 15th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 15th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Mike and Lola (McGuire)  Mattie, Forty Fort, visited Bob and JoAnn McGuire on Sunday.  They also visited  Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden,  who was at her home here.

You can still keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what’s going on around the County.  I see things advertised.  There are some pretty good meals at the various restaurants for you to enjoy.

There are still some pretty Fall decorations I see as I do my daily walking.    They are nice and hope they don’t get snow covered for quite a while yet.

Still have some 2022 and 2023 Lopez mugs left.  If interested, check the website or contact me at the information below.  Make nice Christmas gifts.

I guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  It’ll be fine, I’m sure.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend with Halloween activities that went on during that time.  We did have some really nice weather with days in the 70’s.  Saturday was a perfect day, with no rain, for Halloween doings.  Sunday, not so nice.  Rained most of the day and was quite cool, but Halloween parties were still enjoyed by all.    I hear rain and maybe white stuff for most of the week, but we’ll see what happens.  Changes daily.

Don’t forget Saturday to turn your clocks back ONE HOUR  before you go to bed.  Don’t really like the time change, but can’t do anything about it.   We have to put up with it, like we do with the weather that Mother Nature sends our way.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Don’t forget, Election Day is Tuesday, the 7th.  Get out and vote and make it count.  It’s your right and privilege.

Saw some really cool carved pumpkins on one of my walks.  Everyone does a great job with Halloween decorating.   One place on Main Street had an awesome display again this year.    Next, we’ll be looking for Thanksgiving decorations.   They always look nice too.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Don’t forget 2024 Civic membership dues are due before December 31st.  See Heather McDonald to renew or become a member of the Civic Association.

I guess it’s some sort of hunting season now, so Good Luck hunters and hope you get whatever you go after.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what’s going on around the County.  Still time to have activities for you to attend or even take part in.

Happy Birthday to Tim Bullis, November 5th; Teri Bullis, 7th; and Grayson Burke, 8th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

That’s about it.  Enjoy your week, whatever it is you may be doing.  Might need the rain boots, but hopefully no snow boots or shovels yet.  We got spoiled with the nice weather and are just not ready for that other stuff.

Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Stay well; stay safe and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for reading and the comments I’m getting.

The weather sure is changing.  It’s been cold, rainy, frosty and that wind just doesn’t stop.   The leaves are all gone from the trees here and the color was not really pretty this year.  I know some places had some gorgeous color.    Sunday was a really cold, windy day.  I did hear that some warmer temperatures are on the way. 60’s sound pretty good to me.   Hope Mother Nature will cooperate.     Just not ready for all this cold weather just yet.   Did see only four turkeys in the field across the street.   No deer for a while.

The Civic Halloween party will be on Tuesday, the 31st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Get your costume ready and come on up.  Prizes and refreshments.   Trick or treating after the party.  PLEASE LEAVE YOUR PORCH LIGHT ON IF YOU’D LIKE THE KIDS TO STOP.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Please call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown,  spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.  They all enjoyed visiting John and Gloria Schwab and going to the surprise birthday party for John in Mansfield.   On Sunday, Brian visited friends, Joe and Donna in Troy.

Civic dues for 2024 are now due.  See Heather McDonald to pay yours before December 31st.

I think there may still be some events going on around the County  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what might be of interest.   May just have to bundle up some.  Just don’t know what the weather will do, but good to be prepared.

Hope everyone is in good health and not bothered with colds and flu that are really going around this time of year.   Hopefully with the colder, frosty weather, the germs will stay away.

Happy Birthday to Makalya Day, 27th; Lydia Spinosa, 28th; and Misty Pequignot, 31st.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Marty and Dee Whatley as they celebrate on the 27th.   Congrats and many more.

That’s about it.  Enjoy your week.     Can’t believe the month of October is almost gone and will be time soon to turn the clocks BACK one hour.  Time sure flies by.   I’ll keep you posted.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.

Here is the complete collection (to date) of the Lopez Commemorative Mugs.

The final mug will be released late Spring or early Summer 2024. The mugs

I might have to come up with another something to keep the website going.

THANK YOU TO ALL THAT ENJOYED COLLECTING THESE PIECES.

Another rainy weekend.  I guess despite the rain, many folks enjoyed the events that went on.  We also had frost on Monday and Friday.  We did have some sun, but still very windy and cloudy.  The leaves have gone from our trees here and  we didn’t have much color at all.  I see some places really had beautiful color from the pictures posted on Face Book.  We did see four turkeys in the field across the road.  First time for them in quite a while.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Paul Bizup who passed away on the 6th.  Graveside services were held on Saturday at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery in Lopez.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.   They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Bob McGuire spent the weekend with his son, Tyler, at RIT in Rochester, NY.  They enjoyed a hockey game while he was there.  The weather wasn’t the best, but nice to get together.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 18th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Membership dues for 2024 now due.  See Heather McDonald to pay yours.

Happy Anniversary to Kevin and Teri Bulllis, 20th; and Tom and Kristin Iwancio, 25th.    Have a lovely day and many more.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Looks like it may be a bit rainy off and on, but it’s better than that white stuff that we’ll be seeing before long.  Take an umbrella and go for a walk.

Boy!  Did we get some rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  It came down heavy at times.  Would rain, quit, and rain again.    Didn’t make it very nice for the events that went on over the weekend.   It was pretty windy at times.   After a few days of really warm weather, I hear that we are to get some pretty cool weather.  Guess we just have to take what Mother Nature throws at us.  The flowers seemed to like the warm weather for those few days as they had a spurt of growth and color.   Finally saw a couple deer in the field across the street,  Don’t see many at all and haven’t seen any turkeys for a while.

Cynthia Arnone, Buffalo, NY, spent a week visiting Roseanne Lukachik.  Not the best weather but still an enjoyable time.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.   They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up you may be interested in.  There are many things listed in “Coming Events” in the Sully.  SC News and Bulletin Board on FB also has notices for many things.   Also, check out the places to find a good meal.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  May be time to get out the heavier jackets and gloves, but still may get some nicer weather yet.  We can hope, but I think our nicer weather has passed us by.    Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  Will get it in for you.  Have a great week and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 7, 2023 by Bob McGuireOctober 7, 2023

We had three days of rain early in the week last week.  We did have a couple warm, sunny days.   I saw and heard that this week is to be pretty nice.  Might be our Indian Summer.  Bring it on!   There are cooler nights.  The leaves seem to be falling faster than normal.  Color is nice in some places, but here it’s not so nice.  Might still perk up and look good.   Haven’t seen any geese going South so far, but I think the humming birds have taken flight and gone.  We don’t even have any stragglers that are stopping by.

I see there was a lot of activity at Tent City over the weekend.  Lots of campers were occupied.  Was a nice weekend for camping, quad riding and whatever else they might have been doing.

DOG WALKERS:   It’s nice to take your dog(s) for a walk.  But, PLEASE, take a bag and pick up after him/her.  It’s not fun to go out in the yard and step in dog crap when you know it shouldn’t be there since you don’t even have a dog.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, October 18, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Sorry I forgot some birthdays last week so Happy Belated Birthday to Elizabeth Kapler, 1st; Joe Fanning, 2nd; Kyleigh McDonald, 2nd.  Hope you all had a good day.

Also, missed some anniversaries.  Happy Anniversary to Gerry and Paula Weslowski, 1st; and Tony and Donna Cikovic, 2nd.  Hope you had a happy day.

Birthdays on the horizon include Maggie Brumwell, 5th; Gwen Hontz, 7th; Dylon Pequignot, 7th; Leah Elizabeth Risser, 8th; Ryan Weisbrod, 8th; and Sally Bender, 12th.  Happy Birthday to all and have a nice day.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire at the boat club.  Gerry and Paula celebrated their anniversary while they were here.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Saturday, the 7th, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. is Dushore Fall Festival.  Lots to see and do for the family in downtown Dushore and also at Agway.  Events include pumpkin glamming, scarecrow decorating contest, Christine’s karaoke, sidewalk art, beard and mustache contest, pie contest.  Also, vendors, food and hay rides.  Sounds like an exciting day for all.  Check the Sully “Events of Interest” to see more events that will be going on.  You can also check things on Face Book.

That’s it.  Enjoy your week.  I’m hoping it’s going to be as nice as predicted.  If not, we’ll take what we get.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; USPS mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

It sure was a rainy, cold, nasty weekend for any events that were taking place.   I guess it’s to be a soggy week too.  Hoping for some more warm weather.  I guess the “hummers” have left.  Only see one or two stragglers on their way wherever they go for the winter.   Haven’t even seen many deer or turkeys.  The fox has been around from time to time and once in a while the bear make their appearance.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Barbara and Jerry on Lilac Lane enjoyed a wonderful visit with her sister and brother-in-law up from VA.  Too short, but hopefully next time than can visit longer.

Civic dues are now due for 2024.  Please see Heather McDonald to renew your membership.  If you’d like to join the Civic Association, she can help you with that too.   Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, October 18th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Getting a little too chilly to meet at the Pavilion.

There are still events scheduled for October.  Check the Sully or Face Book to see what’s going on.   And, remember to support your local businesses.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in Allentown with her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski.  They also visited her Aunt and Uncle, who were visiting from NH, while they were there.

I think the gardens and flowers have petered out.  Hope for another good season next year.

Time to get your pumpkins and also do the decorating for Halloween since it’s “just around the corner”.    Seems hard to believe that it’s going to be October in another week.  Where does the time go?

Happy Birthday to Jon-Paul Matychak, 25th; Ted Beaver and Rosalie (Dinky) Burke, 27th.  Have a super day.

Happy Anniversary to Dustin and Sam Burke as they celebrate on the 28th.  Have a fabulous day and many more.

We still have a few of the 2022 and 2023 Lopez mugs available.  If interested, contact me at the info below.    2022 is Squire Dunn’s Garage and 2023 is Nessie at the pond.  The last mug, 2024, is not available and don’t know just yet what will be on that mug.   Will keep you posted.

With the cooler, rainy weather, I hope everyone isn’t being bothered with the flu bug or colds.  Also, seems like they keep coming up with a new “bug”  to get sick from.  Stay well, all.   Stay hydrated and eat healthy.

Well, I guess that’s all the news for this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Could be nice enough to attend any events you might be interested in.  Might have to wear your boots and take and umbrella.    Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

The last week wasn’t too bad, weather-wise.  We had some rain, some wind, lots of nice sun.  The weekend was pretty nice for the activities going on.  Sunday was rainy later in the day, and most of the night,  so hopefully most activities were finished.    Getting much cooler now.  Seems like Fall is in the air.  The leaves are falling a little more and colors are changing.   Gardens are about done and hopefully you got lots of produce to put up for the winter.  Flowers are just about done also.  There were some really nice displays over the summer.   There’s been no frost…….yet, but getting around that time, probably soon, especially for here.  Haven’t seen many deer or turkey.  Seems our “hummers” have either gone or are visiting someplace else.  Haven’t had them for a couple days now.  Maybe they know something we don’t know.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Get well wishes to Diane Fanning who recently had back surgery.  Hope she’s coming along well.

Happy Birthday wishes to Annaliese Froese, Tom Finan, and Jon-Paul Matychak, 25th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

As I sit here and type my news very early Monday morning, it’s raining pretty good.  No thunder and not much wind so far; nothing like what was predicted for Sunday night that we didn’t get.    We did have rain on Thursday and again a good storm on Saturday with lots of thunder.  We didn’t lose power so far, which is good.  Rain predicted for a few days during the week again.  Supposed to be cooler temperatures also.  We will make the best of whatever we get.  The gardens are doing quite well and I think the zucchini did the best of anything.   Flowers are still looking so pretty.   Hopefully no frost for a while yet.  I’m just not ready for the cold weather to settle in.   The leaves are changing color already and Fall is in the air.   There are places where the leaves have already fallen.   The grass has been growing steadily and will be time to mow again soon.

Thank you to Les Isett, Alex Stavisky and Bob McGuire for placing the plaque at Cold Spring.  Good job and looks really nice.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.

Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Labor Day holiday.  Weather was perfect for things going on over the weekend.  The Sullivan County Fair was held and there is always so much to see and do there.  I saw many yard sales and flea markets advertised in the Sully and on Face Book.  There are always good places to eat and get ice cream too.   Hope you found something of interest for you and your family.   There’s always swimming to do at the parks.

This week’s weather is to be much warmer than usual.   I will take it.  I’m just not ready for the cold yet.  The gardens and flowers still seem to be doing pretty well.  Sure are a lot of zucchini to be had.  I’ve made a lot of chocolate zucchini bread for the freezer and for now, but will come in handy this winter.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Happy Birthday to Emerson Brumwell, 10th; Alexia Vermiere, 13th.  Hope you both have a great day.

Happy Anniversary to Les and Kathy Isett, 10th; and Scott and Susan Aharonian 14th.  Have a fantastic day.

Tyler McGuire finished his Internship with Lockheed Martin in Liverpool, NY.  he spent time at home with his family and has now gone back to RIT in Rochester, NY, for his Senior year, majoring in Software Engineering.   Have a great year!

That’s it.  Enjoy your week, especially since the weather is going to be so nice.  Might be able to get some swim time in yet before it gets too cold.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that will be coming up in September and October.  Always something of interest.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

Had some half decent weather, but I see showers on the way this week.  Getting a little nippy in the early morning.  Grass is growing so fast, from the rain we had; flowers and gardens seem to be doing well.  The bear, deer, fox and rabbits are out and about and the humming birds are loving the feeders.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  Please call 1-732-221-2803 to order .  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Sullivan County Fair officially opens on Wednesday, the 29th.  Hope you got to enjoy Home Talent Night on Tuesday.  The Fair will run until Labor Day with lots of interesting things to see and do.  Last week’s Sully had a full, color, back page ad you can check out and see what may interest you.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Her son, Richie Ruggerio also came to help with some outside work.  Weather was pretty nice.

Kids are back in school, so keep an eye on the buses and kids waiting along the road to board the bus.  Just slow down and take a little extra time to get where you’re going.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 20th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many friends of Bill Bohensky, Sr. on his recent passing.  Such a friendly man; always with a smile.  He enjoyed visiting with all who knew him.  A great businessman and community leader, he will be missed.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, with interment at Fairview Cemetery, Dushore, with full military honors.

How about that pouring rain we had Thursday into Friday!!   The rain came down so heavy, the wind blew and it was miserable.  The creek really raised and I heard we had four and a half inches here in Lopez.   Lasted into Friday morning.  Finally got nice.  Saturday was a nice day for our Lopez  Flea market held in town by the pond.  Was sunny and hot.  Sunday was another nice day for things going on around the County or even if you had something going on at your house.

Thank You Mildred Ambulance for sending a couple of your personnel for stand-by at our Lopez Old Home Day on August 5th.

Our next Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 20th of September, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Nina Weslowski spent the weekend with her family in Allentown.

The bear sure have been around all over town.  They make themselves known any time of the day, evening or night.  Tim Brown has been getting some really good pictures on his trail cam.  The one is huge and Tim said waddles as it walks and it looks like it does.   Just have to be aware if you’re out or the kids are out to watch for them.

First day of school is Thursday, the 24th.    I know some kids would rather be off yet and some are really anxious to go back to see their friends from last year.  Keep alert, people, buses will be on the road and kids too waiting for the bus.  Doesn’t hurt to slow down a little.

Sullivan County Fair is coming up the end of August into Labor Day.  Check it out.  May be something to spark your interest.  Always a good time for everyone that goes.  I hear lots of good food is available too, along with many good programs and lots to see in all of the buildings.

Happy Birthday to Gaige Burke, 29th.  Have a super duper day.  Gerald Maloney’s family would like to wish him the best birthday ever and many more.  He celebrates on the 30th.  Have a good one.

Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke as they celebrate on the 26th.  Have a great day.

Guess that’s it for this week.  Enjoy your week.  I’m told it’s to be pretty nice with hardly any rain.  We shall see what we shall see and hope that’s right.  Have news give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 18, 2023 by Bob McGuireAugust 18, 2023

We had a couple thunder storms during the week, but nothing like what was predicted.   No tornadoes but some really windy times with pouring rain.  Then, the sun would come out and get hot and humid.  The gardens and flowers got watered quite well.  Lots of good things in the gardens, especially zucchini, and so many pretty flowers around.   I did hear there are no berries and apples due to the hard frosts we had earlier.   There were lots of blossoms, but no fruit.    Does that mean a “mild” winter this year?  Guess we shall see.   The humming birds didn’t mind the rain at all and the bear managed to come around any time during the day.

Saturday, the 12th, was a perfect day for the Marek family reunion, held at the home of Ferdie Marek on Church Street.    Folks came to enjoy the day with good food and lots of visiting.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home on Church Street.  She attended her SCHS Class of 1969 annual picnic at Connell’s Dam on Saturday, the 12th.  Fourteen classmates attended with a total of 23 in attendance.  Everyone brought a dish to pass.  They all enjoyed games and, of course, reminiscing.  Plans were discussed for next year’s 55th reunion.

I made a “goof” in my news last week.  It’s Parker, not Carter, Schiele who is the great grandson of Carole Kilgus, who she visited while she was here recently.  Had a nice phone conversation with Carole over the weekend and she enjoys the Sully down in New Holland and she mentioned my mistake.

Happy Birthday to TJ Lowden and Grayson Schiele, 17th;  and Andrew Froese, 20th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Bill and Bonnie Killian as they celebrate on the 16th.  Have a nice day.

That’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Hopefully the weather will be nice.   Some days are starting to cool off late in the evening, but we’ll take what we get.  Hardly seems possible that the month of August is almost over and school will be starting before you know it.  I’m sure the kids want more time off.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events that you may be interested in.  I know the SC Fair will be at the end of the month, until Labor Day.  Always something for everyone to enjoy there.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238, mail me, see me, or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

What a perfect weekend for things going on in the County.  The weather was super on Saturday for our Old Home Day festivities.

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped in any way to make our Old Home Day a success.  Whatever you did, no matter how big or small, it was so much appreciated.  I can’t name names as I’ll surely forget someone.  Just Thank You!

Everything went smoothly and I think all had a good time.  They enjoyed the variety of foods;had fun with the games; the kids liked to sit on the pillow at the dunk tank and if someone was lucky to trip the trigger, down they went into the water.  Many had good luck with Bingo and the Rip-Off tickets.  AM Flashback (Don Cicero) was our DJ from 5 to 9 p.m.  Madam Lopezina did a great job again with her fortune telling expertise.  The basket raffle was a huge success and the 50/50 drawing gave those who won some extra money.   And….we couldn’t have done it without you, the public, who were here to support us for the day.  Hopefully, another good day next year.

Next event —  Saturday, August 19th, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Lopez Flea Market at the pond by Nessie.  Anyone is welcome to come and set up.  Hope to see you there.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Tent City was alive with so many campers for the weekend as they all gather for their annual reunion.  They also enjoyed Old Home Day.  Fireworks from down there were enjoyed by those who watched from the Pavilion.

Sr. Ella Mae McDonald was in town from NJ and attended Old Home Day  She enjoyed Bingo and visiting.  I missed her but she stopped at the Civic booth and told them to be sure to tell me she was here.  “I want my name in the paper”.  So, Sr. Ella Mae, I listened and sorry I missed you, but here you are in the paper.

Happy Birthday to Randy Lebo and Mary Lowden, 10th; Kari Spinosa, 11th; Al Kapler and Chase Brumwell, 12th; Linda Beaver, 13th; Dustin Burke, 15th; and Kevin Pequignot, 16th.  Have a nice day.

Barbara Bell of Lilac Lane had three close encounters with a large black bear in the last two weeks.  On August 2nd, she was walking her dog, Dixie, and thought she saw the bear behind a neighbor’s shed.  Turned out to be a man!  Let’s just say she’s a bearanoid!!

Scott, Susan and Alex Aharonian, Narvon, along with Marian Hubiak, Baltimore, MD, spent the weekend at their home on Dutch Mountain.  They enjoyed Old Home Day while they were here.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here on Church Street.  She attended the annual Homza family reunion on Saturday at Connell’s Dam and also spent time at Old Home Day.  Sunday she had a family dinner.  Visitors for the weekend were Shawn Pequignot; Kevin and Alyssa Pequignot with her great grandkids, Brayson and Ariella; Jennifer Pequignot-Laird; Shawn Buck; Serenity and Alek Laird; Paul and Marge Bednar, Mickey and Karen Bednar; Sophie Bednar.  Had a really nice day for visiting with family.

Guess that’s it.  enjoy your week.  Looks like some storms, but it changes daily so we’ll wait and see.  Have news, all me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all survived the weekend.  Had a couple really good rain storms and the wind was wicked.  Thought we would lose power, but it just blinked a couple of times.  Sunday was a much nicer day with cooler temperatures.

Was nice to see Carole Kilgus on Friday.  Her daughter, Teri Bullis, brought her up from New Holland, where they now live, to an 85th birthday breakfast at Pam’s Restaurant.  Friends gathered there to wish her well for many more birthdays.  They spent Thursday with Dawn Kilgus Darrin, Tara (Kilgus), Greyson and Carter Schiele.  Such a nice time for everyone.

Sympathy to the family and friends of Linda (Popso) Schroeder who passed away on the 25th.  She spent many summers here in Lopez with her Aunt Bettie Popso.  She was living in Florida.

Thank you to all those who came on Sunday for pavilions and grounds clean up.  Those included Jason and Maggie Brumwell; Jodi Brumwell; Les and Kathy Isett; Alex and Ginny Stavisky; Ted, Fay and Nick Puzo; Clair Johnson and us.  Thanks to Jason and Nick for taking care of the big tree limbs that came down due to Saturday’s storm.

Don’t forget, Saturday, the 5th, is Old Home Day.  Noon to 10 p.m. with lots to do.  Good foods of all kinds, games, Bingo, Dunk Tank, Raffles and music by AM Flashback.  Hope to see you there.

Flea market coming up on August 19th, at the park, by Nessie.  Anyone is welcome to come and set up a table.  If you’d like to do that, please let Bob McGuire know by calling 570-928-9238.   8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Happy Birthday to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherril Dayton, August 4th; Kyle Froese and Kathy Lebo, 9th.

Happy Anniversary to John and Mary Rajkiewicz as they celebrate 60 years on the 3rd.  Many more to you.

Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book for happenings around the County that you may be interested in.   Many things are happening now with the nicer weather.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  I think it’s to be pretty nice.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had some nice weather and had some really rainy weather.  The gardens and flowers sure got some nice drink and no one had to water for a while.  Haven’t checked for the week’s weather, but I’m sure we will have some.   In my walking around town, I see so many pretty flowers and hanging baskets.  The gardens are doing well too.

Went to an excellent presentation by Michelle Knight, on Cortez Jennings and the Jennings Bros. Lumber Company, mostly about their time in Lopez.  She is the great, great grand daughter of Cortez Jennings.  This was held on Sunday at the Mattern Building in Mildred.  Was nice to see so many people that came out.  If you missed it, you missed a very well presented talk.

St. Vladimir’s has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 570-928-8909; 732-221-2803, or 440-645-9719.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Mark your calendar.  Lopez Old Home Day is just around the corner and hope to see you there.  Lots of good food, games, Bingo, raffles, dunk tank and music by AM Flashback.  From Noon to 10 p.m.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for coming events.  I see many listed every week, FB, of things to do around the County.  You may be interested in something.

Happy Birthday to Marino Santarelli, and Carole Kilgus, 28th; Matt Dayton, Jr., 29th; and Casey Bonardi, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

I’ve heard and seen a lot of folks that have been doing a lot of fishing and swimming now that the weather has been so nice.  Hope you all get to enjoy lots more of that.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Just get out; take a walk; breathe; enjoy the day.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.  We sure did have our share of rain the past few days, along with the thunder and lightning.   I guess the gardens and flowers sure got enough water.  The creek raised again.   We did have some nice days for just walking, quad riding, picnics and get-togethers.   Hopefully we’ll have some nicer weather now.  I did hear more smoke may be coming from the Canada fires and our air quality may go back to orange.   Sure hope not.

Congratulations to the following for the Fourth Marking Period of school honor roll:  Distinguished Honor Roll:  Miles Baton, Kyleigh McDonald, Kaeleigh McDonald.  Honor Roll: Makalya Day, Izabella Capriotti, Ruby Malkemes, Adriana Capriotti, Bruno Day; Charles Armioria, and Enrico Capriotti.  Great job!

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 570-928-8909; 732-221-2803, or 440-645-9719.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Thank you to Ryan Vnuk for his donation for Cold Spring.

Mark your calendar for the Lopez Flea Market on Saturday, August 19th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Park with Nessie.  Check your attic, basement or garage for things you may want to not keep any more.  If you’d like to set up, please call Bob at 570-928-9238.

Old Home Day is right around the corner.  Plans are coming along well.  This will be Saturday, August 5th, Noon to 10 p.m.  Lots of things to do, along with visiting with old friends.   Hope to see you there.

Happy Birthday to Evalyn Lansberry and Sr. Ella Mae McDonald, 20th; Matt Beaver, 21st; Billy Stasiak, 23rd, and Jan Marie (Benjamin) Manuel, 25th.   Hope you all have a nice day.

As I walk, I see there are more folks coming to town to spend time at their cabins or homes.  The gardens and flowers seem to be doing really well.  Just hope all the rain didn’t rot anything.  I see the ground hogs, rabbits, and humming birds are enjoying the nice weather, rain or no rain.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things that may be going on around the County that you may be interested in.    I guess the rain doesn’t stop some folks from getting out and about and enjoying our County.

That’s about it.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.   Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 12, 2023 by Bob McGuireJuly 12, 2023

What a thunder/lightning storm we had early Sunday.  Poured like crazy, was windy and very foggy.  It finally did quit, but a light rain followed most of the day.  I don’t know total rainfall, but must have been pretty good.  There were pools and puddles in some yards and fields.  Ducks would have loved it.  Creek raised pretty good again.

Bob and I had an enjoyable time at GEMFEST in Syracuse, NY, on Saturday.  It is the annual mineral, gem, jewelry and fossil show put on by the Syracuse mineral club.  Lots of interesting things to see and do.  Many educational displays, educational programs and many dealers with all kinds of minerals, fossils, etc. for sale.  Also lots of kids activities, so a great day for all who attended.  Was a fun time for us and we got to see many old friends we hadn’t seen for quite some time.  Weather was perfect.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p. at the Pavilion.  OHD is about a month away, on Saturday, August 5th, Noon to 5 p.m.  Can you help?  Call Bob at 570-928-9238 if you can “spare” some time to give a hand.  Pat Arcaro is looking for basket donations for her raffle.  If you’d like to do a basket, call her at 570-928-8930.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of each month.  To order, call 570-928-8909; 570-732-2803; or 570-645-9719.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Happy Birthday to David Black, 14th; and Adam Aharonian, 18th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to David and Lavonne Black, 14th; and Matt and Sherril Dayton, 14th also.  Have a great day and many more.

Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book for things that may be going on that you may be interested in.  There’s always something now with the nicer weather.  That’s it for now.  Looks like more rain on the way.  All the gardens and flowers are looking really good.  Just hope that storm on Sunday wasn’t enough to rot the produce that seems to be coming along nicely.  Enjoy your week, whatever you choose to do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 6, 2023 by Bob McGuireJuly 6, 2023

Hope you all had an enjoyable and safe 4th of July Holiday.  We did have a couple of thunderstorms early in the week.  Was also hot, humid, sunny and smokey weather from the fires in Canada again.  A few days the air quality was in the red zone.  Hopefully, the air will clear and all will be good.

Had a nice phone chat with Carole Kilgus.  She is doing well and getting settled in with Kevin and Teri.  Enjoying the weather.  She gets to spend time with great granddaughter and says that’s a lot of fun.  She said to tell all her friends here that she says Hello.  She does miss Sullivan County and all her friends here, but does like where they are now.  They are in Amish country so enjoys watching a horse and buggy go by every now and then.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 570-928-8909; 732-221-2803; or 440-645-9719.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, spent a few days over the Holiday with his Dad, Bob Jr.  He also spent time with Uncle B, Nina Weslowski and his grand parents, Bob and JoAnn McGuire.  Fun time while he was here.

Thank you to the Blatt’s for their generous donation to Cold Spring.  They say they sure appreciate having the water there and have used it for quite some time.   We’ve had so many good comments on the face lift that was given to the trough and everyone says thanks for the water supply there.

Welcome to Duane and Patty Johnson who have become permanent residents at their home on Turrell Town Road.  Their son, Jason, Melissa and James recently spent ten days with them.

Civic meeting, July 19th, 6 pm. at the Pavilion.  Old Home Day plans coming along.  Still need volunteers so if you’d like to help, let us know.

Pat Arcaro would like anyone who wants to donate a basket for our raffle, to please call her at 570-928-8930.

Don’t forget to start cleaning your attic, garage and basement.  The Civic Association is having a flea market on Saturday, August 19th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Nessie, at the pond.  Anyone is welcome to set up.  If interested call Bob ant 570-928-9238 and let him know.   In case of rain, it will be held at the Pavilion.   You know the saying, “your trash might be someone else’s treasure’.

Happy Birthday wishes to Patty Johnson, 9th; Samantha Burke 10th; Dan Stasiak, 11th; and Woody Woodford and Averie Bahr, 13th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Heather McDonald who celebrate their anniversary on the 7th.  Also to daughter, Kristin and Jeffrey Mensch, who celebrate the same day.  Hope you all have a great day.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Hopefully get some much needed rain to help tame down all the smoke and will be good for the gardens and flowers.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on July 1, 2023 by Bob McGuireJuly 1, 2023

We didn’t get the thunder storms, at least in Lopez, that were predicted the last few days.  We did get one little clap of thunder Saturday evening with a splash of rain and that was it.  Sunday was very cloudy and sprinkly, but nothing to speak of.  About 6:30 p.m. we did get a good rain shower, with the sun out, and a nice rainbow.   See what happens during the week.

Cynthia Arnone, Buffalo, spent a few days here with her cousin, Roseanne Lukachik.  Nice time together.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 570-928-8909; 732-221-2803; or 440-645-9719.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Barb, from Lilac Lane, returned from an extensive journey around the US to visit children and grandchildren.  She says she had a wonderful time, but glad to be home in good old Lopez.   (From what she told me of her journey, it sounded like a great time!)

There will be a Lopez flea market on Saturday, August 19th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Nessie at the lake in town.  Anyone is welcome to set up.  If interested, call Bob at 570-928-9238 and let him know.  In case of rain, it will be held at the Pavilion.  I know it’s early, but you’ll have time to clean your attic, garage, or basement to bring your “goodies”: to the sale.

Still looking for volunteers for Lopez Old Home Day which is coming up on Saturday, August 5th, Noon to 10 p.m.  If you’d like to help in some way, please call Bob at 570-928-9238 and let him know.

If you’d like to donate a basket for the raffle on Old Home Day, please contact Pat Arcaro at 570-928-8930.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.

I see on Face Book there are a lot of bear around the different Sullivan County areas.  There are some big one around so be on the watch when you’re out and about.

Mark and Lisa Fenster, Philly, spent some time at their home on Church Street.

Happy Birthday wishes to Brandan McCobin, July 4th; Brayson Siddle, 5th; Bill Stasiak and Bryson Charlesl, both on the 6th.   Have a nice day.

Things coming up around the County so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to check it all out.

Fourth of July is coming right up.  Hope everyone has a Safe and Happy Holiday.

I think that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  Rain will be good for the gardens and flowers.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
