Can’t complain about the nice weather we’ve been having.  Last Monday was 52 degrees, sunny and warm.  I hung the laundry out on the line and it dried.  That was awesome.  Hadn’t done that for months.   I hear we may be getting a “little” snow, but most of the storms are going to stay out along the coast.  New York, New Jersey, DC and Maryland can have it all.   We’ve been pretty lucky so far this year.

Due to the warm weather, there will be no toboggan slide in Eagles Mere this year.  That’s the sad part about the weather since this is a major fund raiser for the Eagles Mere Fire Company and they depend on the cold weather to make the slide.

Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Steve Gulich, Sr., who passed away on January 31st.  Funeral was held on February 4th at St. Vladimir’s Church, with burial in the parish cemetery.  Rev. Dennis Hendershot presided.  Steve was a good member of the community and visited with anyone he’d see while walking to town every day to pick up his mail.  He will be missed by all who got to know him.

Visiting Mrs. Irene Huray on Saturday was her daughter, Irene Pequignot and her grandson, Kevin Pequignot.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order yours, call 570-928-1099.

Don’t forget……..Winterfest is coming up on the weekend.  Lots of things planned for the weekend, so take a ride to Camp Brule and enjoy the fun.   Take part in the Polar Bear plunge; check out the ice carving, the live auction, the human dog sled races, and many more things that will be going on.  I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

Sunday is Valentine’s Day so enjoy the day with loved ones.   Do something special for someone, just because.

Happy Birthday wishes to Haley Latch, 15th;  and Allison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th.
Hope you all have a nice day.

HINT:  “Use toothpaste to buff a CD/DVD.  Apply toothpaste to a cotton ball and wipe the disc.   Wash with water and you’ve got a brand new disc.”
There’s still time to get your Cold Spring donation in.  If you’d like to give to that project, mark your envelope “Cold Spring” and send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628.  All monies greatly appreciated.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  February 7, 1978 – Cloudy, cold, flurries and 10 degrees.  On that date, now, we had sun, little wind and 10 degrees early, but did warm up to 40 degrees later in the day.   I think one of these days we’ll get snow and cold and it will be here a while.  But…………maybe not.  Maybe we’ll get an early Spring.  There are conflicting reports that the groundhog saw his shadow, he didn’t see his shadow, so I’ll just wait and see what happens.

I’ve had people tell me they like the weather reports I give in my column.  They know how to dress and what to bring to the area if they’re coming for a weekend or a few days, so they enjoy that.

Guess that’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

I just can’t believe the nice weather we’ve been having.  The weekend was great.  Sunday was warmer than Saturday, with 28 degrees early in the morning and warming up to 54 degrees in the afternoon, with lots of sunshine and not much wind.   At 11 p.m. it was still above 40 degrees.  I did hear there “may” be a coastal storm coming on the 10th of February.  That’s close to Valentine’s Day when some folks say there is usually a storm at that time.  We’ll have to wait and see, but maybe it will miss us again.   Really can’t complain of the winter we’ve had so far.   Many people are noticing that some of their trees and bushes are budding.  Only hope they don’t get frozen and not bloom for the summer time to enjoy.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray, on Sunday.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 928-1099.

Had a nice visit with Chris Cokos in Dushore one day last week.  He’s alive and well and has his wits about him and still has his great sense of humor.  Was nice to see him out and about.  Said to let everyone know he’s doing well.

No snow to go sledding, skiing, or snowmobiling, so I see lots riders out and about on their quads, enjoying the nice weather.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Alex Aharonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; and Tommy Van Dyke and Krystal Vermiere, both on the 14th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  January 31, 1983 – cloudy and 32 degrees.  Not too bad, but I liked our day much better.

HINT:  “Bananas are the magical fruit because they heal many common problems on the skin.  By rubbing the peel on your skin, you can heal bruises and cuts, eliminate rashes, itching and warts.  If you have a common skin problem, it can be cured by this fruit.”  (See, bananas aren’t just for breakfast anymore.)

Well, I guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Should be really nice to get out and take advantage of the good weather.  Rain may be here for Wednesday and then a cold front might be coming through.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Weekend wasn’t too bad.  Saturday we had some sprinkles.  Sunday we had a light dusting of snow.  Just enough to cover the roads and the grass.   Last I heard, it’s to be nice during the week until Friday, when someone said a BIG storm is coming our way.  We’ll see what happens.  It’s kind of early to tell, since the weatherman can’t predict tomorrow.  The temperatures have been pretty cool to start the day, but does warm up pretty nice.  Haven’t had a lot of sun, so makes for a dreary day.  I know those that like to snowmobile, ski or do some sledding are really ready for more snow.  I guess there are some four wheelers still out and about with the better weather.

Congratulations to Jaron Williams for making the Dean’s list at Penn College in Williamsport for the Fall of 2015, Bachelor of Science, Manufacturing Engineering and Technology.   Good job, Jaron.

Jerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire, Main Street.  An enjoyable time for everyone.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.

Mrs. Irene Huray, Church Street, spent a few days with her daughter, Irene Pequignot, Linden.

Happy Birthday wishes to Mike Stavisky (down there in sunny FL), 24th; Owen Evans and Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot, 28th; and Lisa and Jason Burke, 30th.  Hope you all have a really nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Al and Jeannie Kapler as they celebrate on the 23rd.  Congratulations and have a good day.

HINT:  “To shine up your dull wood paneling, mix one pint warm water with four tablespoons white or apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons olive oil.  Put on with a cloth and let the mixture soak in for a few minutes and then polish.”

Winterfest is coming up on President’s Day weekend, February 13 and 14, held at Camp Brule.  You can brave the cold and do the Polar Bear plunge, along with many other activities planned.  Mark your calendar now and take part in Winterfest.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  January 17, 1974 – Clear, cold, drizzle and 16 degrees.  Ours was a tad better on that day in 2016.

The Civic Association still has some sweatshirts available for this colder weather.  We do have t-shirts also.  You can wear the t-shirt under the sweatshirt.  For information about these items, contact me at the info below.

There are still some 2013, 2014, and 2015 Lopez mugs available.  To get yours, for $20, contact Bob at the info below.   Working on the 2016 mugs to be ordered soon.

The 47th annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club show will be coming up in March.  This year it will be on Saturday, March 19th, and Sunday, March 20th.  It’s held at the Athens Township Vol. Fire Hall in Sayre.  Watch the Sully for more information and there will be posters placed in various areas around the County.  Mark your calendar for this event.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; it could be worse, so go with the flow and have a good time.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me atuvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Have been having some pretty nice weather for a few days.  The weekend wasn’t too bad.  We did have some heavy rain at times, but it was sunny, warm and 52 degrees.  From what I heard, we’re in for some stormy weather during the week, with a lot of cold coming.  Guess we have to expect that.  After all………….it is winter…………..as I was told.  I would take the nice weather from now until April and then warm up for the summer.  Don’t think that will happen, but I can dream.   The McDonald’s saw a rainbow on Sunday.  Was pretty neat from the pictures I saw, but I missed this one.  On Sunday afternoon the creek looked pretty high and was rumbling along really fast.

Hope everyone is well and not bothered with flu bugs and colds.

Congratulations to Chloe Shea for being selected Student of the Month.  Keep up the good work.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order yours, please call 570-928-1099.

Don’t really have a lot of news to report right now.  Not a lot going on here in Lopez, but I know elsewhere there were “doings” to attend.

Thanks to Brian McGuire for taking the Christmas display back to the Pavilion for the winter.  Job well done.  Also, to Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald who helped with the cords and flowers.

Remember, NO Civic meeting for the month of January.

Happy Birthday wishes to Adel Bradshaw, 20th; Alice Fedorchak and Jim Rouse, 21st; Irene Pequignot, 22nd.   Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Mary Lowden, 17th; Alex and Ginny Stavisky; 22nd.   Many more happy years.

HINT:  “Vinegar (1/3 cup) works real well as a rinsing agent in your dishwasher.  Simply add it to the wash with your regular dishwasher detergent.  It can help with cloudy glassware.”   (Can’t try this; I still do dishes the old fashioned way.)

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:   “Cold, light snow and MINUS 2 degrees.”   Guess I’ll take our weather over that any day.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; even if it is cold, it’s good to get out and get the fresh air.  Maybe some snow on the way, but early yet to tell.  We’ll know when we go outside or look out the window and see the white stuff.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading; I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and wish all of you a very Happy, Healthy New Year.  Let’s hope it good for everyone.   The weather was perfect for travel over the Holidays, so hope you all got to where you wanted to be.   I hear the weather for the middle of the week is to get warm again, with temperatures in the 40’s.  Sounds good to me.

There will be NO Civic meeting in the month of January.  Watch my news for the next meeting, or you may get a call about one.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, enjoyed some time over the New Year Holiday at their home on Church Street.  Joe saw a bald eagle while he was outside the one day.  Tried to get the camera, but not in time to get a picture.   We were invited up for dinner on Saturday and had a delicious meal and good time visiting and catching up.

Tony and Patti Sneidar, along with Forest, Philadelphia, spent some time over New Year’s at their home on Church Street and enjoyed visiting friends while they were here.  Tony did some hunting, but don’t know if he was successful.

Mrs. Irene Huray spent the Christmas Holiday with her daughter, Irene Pequignot, Linden; Shawn Pequignot family, Jennifer Pequignot family and Kevin Pequignot family.

Congratulations to Jeffrey and Kristin (McDonald) Mensch on the birth of their first baby.  Hailey Lou Mensch was born on December 22, 2015 and weighed 9 lb. 11 oz. and was 22 inches long.   Maternal grandparents are Mike and Heather McDonald, Rose McDonald and Rick Weist.  Paternal grandparents are Jeff and Holly Mensch.  Great grandparents are Pat and Tim O’Conner, Joe and Joan McDonald, Harvey Vough and Ron and Janet Mensch.  Aunts include Nicky Brennan, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald and Uncle Cory McDonald.   This is going to be one spoiled baby, I know.  Lots of luck and fun with the new little one.

Still taking donations for Cold Spring.  If you’d like to donate, send it to the Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628 and mark the envelope “Cold  Spring”.   Thanks to those who have given so far.    There will be some more work done in the Spring when the ground is more favorable.

Happy Birthday wishes to go out to Jim Craig, January 1st; Georgette Matychak, 3rd; Jeannie Kapler, Edith Tamburro and Alex Stavisky, all on the 4th; Pete Tomasak and Frank Baines, both on the 5th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th; Craig Germany and John McDonald, Jr., both on the 9th; Crystal Pequignot, 12th.   Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver as they celebrate on the 12th.  Have a good day.

B’s gang sends birthday wishes to Tyler Higley for his special day on the 13th.  Hope you have a great day.

HINT:  “A great use for a length of stocking or a knee-high.  Slip one over your pet brush and poke the bristles through.  Brush your dog or cat as normal.  When you’re done, you can pull the stocking off the brush and the hair will be caught inside.”

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  January 3, 1978 – Fair and cold with zero temperature.   Our weather for January 3, 2106 was a little better.  We had 24 degrees and a few flurries and was cloudy.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Should be pretty nice.  Get out and take a walk in the brisk air, if you like.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading and sending hints.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 23, 2015 by draco66August 25, 2016

Still having pretty nice weather most of the day.  The mornings start out really cold and sometimes very windy, but guess we can put up with that.  We had a “few” of those little “white” things come down, but nothing to speak of.  Hope they stay away.  Heard Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are to be super and I’ll go for that.  I do feel bad for the ski lodges and folks who like to get out and ski, snowboard and go snowmobiling.  But……I don’t feel “that” bad.   We’ll get ours…………..in due time.

Got the following e-mail to share.  “Hello, Jim Glasson, Sr., here, from Tall Timbers Hunting Club, located in Lopez since 1980.  This year we had nine hunters in the club make it up.  Those included Jim Glasson, Sr. (President); Jim Glasson, Jr., who harvested a beautiful six pointer on opening day, estimated weight 180 pounds; Jim’s brothers, John and Tom; and members Tim Callahan, Sr. and his son Tim, Jr.  They all hunted.  Also there was Gary Shafer and his brother-in-law, Bill Moyer, who joined the Club this year.  Jeff Ellershaw, who is a member, hunted very hard.  Unfortunately, the unseasonably warm weather didn’t cooperate.  Saw plenty of grouse and four bear, but no shots.  We had long time friend, Tony Sneidar from Church Street and his friends stop down to visit, along with the Ten Point Club, from Flat Street.  This included Oats, Bob, Tubby, Tommy and many more.   We spent lots of time playing cards and reminiscing about all the great times we’ve had hunting since 1978 and remembered visiting with Vito Arcaro when he had the Grid Iron, and talking about all the deer stories the guys made up.  Seems like the deer herd shrunk or not enough hunters to keep them moving.   Merry Christmas from Tall Timers Club and a Healthy New Year for everyone in the Ice Box of Pennsylvania.”

Ted, Mike, TJ and Kevin were all lucky hunters during the season.

Good luck to Jim and Barbara Craig who have sold their home on Church Street.  They will go back to their home in Media, but hope to visit now and then.  They will be missed by all their neighbors and friends.

Ted and Mary Lowden, Maple Terrace, took a short trip to Marlton, NJ, to visit TJ and Allison Lowden, at their home there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order yours, call 570-928-1099.  Makes a nice Christmas dinner.

HINT:  “To freshen the air in your home, place a sheet of Bounce in drawers or hang in the closet.  You can also put a sheet of Bounce in your vacuum cleaner for a nice smell when cleaning.”

Cory McDonald, Wakefield, RI, is spending the Christmas holiday here and about with family and friends.

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  December 20, 1981 – Cold and 14 degrees.   Our weather today was a low of 22 degrees and I don’t think it went up above 34 degrees all day.  Ours is a tad better than what they had back in 1981.

Well, this is the last Sully for the year.  Next one will be January 6, 2016.  The year seemed to go by pretty fast.  I’d like to wish everyone, including the Sully staff, a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year.  I’ve enjoyed writing the Lopez news and thank everyone who had a hand in giving me news items and Hints for the column.  Enjoy your week with friends and loved ones.  Be careful if you’re out for New Year’s Eve.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for everything and I’ll be here next time.

Can’t really complain about the nice weather we’ve been having.  Cold mornings, but warm during the day.  I know the hunters would rather snow to track the deer and then drag it out of the woods when its shot, but I’ll take this weather for sure.

Cory McDonald, Wakefield, RI, spent the Thanksgiving holiday here visiting family and friends.

NO Civic meeting in the month of December due to the Christmas holiday.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.

Santa Claus made a visit to Lopez on Saturday when he stopped by Russian Hall to visit with the many kids and others who gathered there.   Thanks to Barbara Andrewlavage who again chaired this event.  Big Thank You to her for donating all the craft items used and the candy given.  It is much appreciated.  The Civic Association has Santa give out the big bag of toys.  All had a great time.  Someone mentioned there must have been fifty people in attendance.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Dylan Amon, 13th; Noah Brown, 14th; Carter Vermiere, 17th; and V Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, both on the 19th.  Hope you all have a great day.

Johnson.JackieJ@jobcorps.org.   You’ll enjoy doing this.

HINT:  “Brighten up your fireplace brickwork by using one cup of white vinegar and one gallon of warm water.  Scrub the area and your bricks will look shiny and nice.”   (Good for those decorating for the Christmas holiday.)

Still have a few Lopez mugs available.  Also Lopez t-shirts and sweatshirts.  Makes nice Christmas gifts.  If interested, contact me at the info below.

I guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week.  Get out and take advantage of the sunshine.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Are we having some good weather or what?  Can’t believe these temperatures.  I really feel bad for those in TX, KS and CO and the bad weather,  no power, and flooding they are getting again.  We can be thankful for what we have.  Weather was really good for those traveling over the Holiday.  It’s to be nice all week, from what I heard on TV.

Friday was the perfect day for members of the Civic Association to put up the Christmas decorations at the Monument.  Didn’t have to work with snow or sloppy weather.  Those who came out to help included:  Bob and JoAnn; Brian and Nina; Molly and Clair; Brandan and Robyne; Robyne’s brother, Steve Hetrick, who was visiting from VA; and Macrina.  We got done in no time and had the lights turned on at 5 p.m. for all to enjoy.   After decorating, Bob and I went into the lower park and while there we saw a bald eagle flying around above us.  Stayed for a while; then went up toward the creek near Pigeon Creek Road.  Beautiful bird.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.   I hope all who were able to go to their Ethnic Foods dinner on Sunday had a good meal and enjoyable time.

Rifle deer season has started, so please be aware there will be a lot more action and hunters around.   Good luck hunters and hope you “bag” the big one.

Tony Sneidar, Philadelphia, is spending a few days at his home on Church Street and doing some hunting while he is here.

Ted and Mary Lowden, Marlton, NJ, are enjoying a lot of time at their home on Maple Terrace.  TJ Lowden, Marlton, NJ, spent the weekend at his home on Church Street and visited them also while he was here.

Tent City has some campers occupied for a few days.  There are many of the Borick family relatives here to do some hunting and visiting friends.    A lot of Ron and Kevin Franks friends are also here doing some hunting.  Good luck, guys.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and son, Tyler, Hunlock Creek, and Bob and JoAnn McGuire, spent Saturday with Brian McGuire and Nina for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.   Had a great time playing Win, Lose or Draw.   Looking forward to another game night soon.

I think everyone is glad that Cold Spring is running again.  There will be some landscaping done in the Spring when the area gets dried up some.  If you’d like to help maintain Cold Spring, you can do so by sending your donation to the Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA and mark your envelope “Cold Spring”.  Thanks and all donations greatly appreciated.

Jim and Barbara Craig, Media, PA, spent the Thanksgiving holiday at their home on Church Street.

Happy Birthday wishes to Elexus Dunkleberger, December 6th; Tony Sneidar, Jr., Marino Santarelli and Robyne McCobin, all on the 8th; Aaron Risser, 9th; Rose Decker, 10th; and Andrea (Matychak) Anderson, 12th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

HINT:  “Use Bounce dryer sheets in your books and photo albums that don’t get opened too often.  Takes the odor out.”  (And you thought Bounce was only for the dryer.)

I guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Sure will be nice to get out and about with the weather we’ll be having.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get your news in.  Thanks  for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on November 25, 2015 by draco66August 25, 2016

Not a bad weekend.  Was a little chilly, but we didn’t get what some of the other States got and the week is to be pretty nice.  Will make it nice for those travelers going visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday.  I know there were quite a few hunters in for the three days of bear season and hoped they maybe got one.  Then, rifle deer season will be upon us right after Thanksgiving, so I’m staying as far from the woods as I can during that time.

Just want to put another “blurb” in about telling folks to SLOW DOWN  on any street in Lopez.  There was another cat that was hit and killed by a car.  I know pets are family, but if that was a child, it would be much worse.  There is no reason to “fly” on these roads, especially now that we have many more kids in town.  Think about it.  SLOW DOWN and keep everyone safe.   If you have to get somewhere so fast, leave a little earlier.

I hope you got to see “A Fractured Christmas Carol”, put on by the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company on Friday or Saturday.   We went Friday evening and it was so good.  The cast did an excellent job and I never laughed so much.   During Intermission, they auctioned off bags that you didn’t know what was inside and they also had a Chinese auction.  It’s always nice to support these folks with their fund raisers.  Good job, all, and can’t wait for next year.

The Civic Association will be putting up the Christmas decorations on Friday, the 27, 11 a.m.  Meet at the Pavilion and anyone is welcome to come and help.  Weather should be in our favor.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.  They will also be having an ethnic foods dinner on Sunday, the 29th, Noon to 5 p.m. at the Church Hall.  This is eat in or take out.  See their ad in the paper.  Nice place to go and have some good food to eat.

Cold Spring is coming along very nicely.  The water is running.  There will be some landscaping done in the Spring when it’s not so muddy.  If you’d like to donate anything toward maintenance of Cold Spring, please send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA and mark your envelope “Cold Spring”.  All donations greatly appreciated.

Tony and Patti Sneidar and “Forest”, Philadelphia, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.

Also spending time at their homes on Church Street was TJ and Allison Lowden, Marlton, NJ, and Joe and Diane Fanning and “Molly”, Landenberg.  Joe and Diane said a bear, about 350 lbs., crossed the road in front of them as they got almost to their house on Wednesday evening.  They also had some deer in the yard while they were here.

Ted and Mary Lowden, Marlton, NJ, are spending some time at their home on Maple Terrace.  They had a couple of beautiful, big bucks in their yard one evening.  Maybe they will stay there so they can’t be taken during hunting season.

Happy Anniversary to Don and Wilda (Wood) Paul as they celebrate on December 2nd.  Have a great day.

HINT:  “Need more refrigerator space?  Stack gelatin salads and casseroles using cake cooling racks or trays.  Plastic glasses can help adjust the height.”  (With the holidays coming and friends over, this may be useful.  Probably can be used for other salads, etc. also.)   To make a kitchen look more cheerful, add healthy plants or a small herb garden on the windowsill.

The Civic Association still has some Lopez sweatshirts and t-shirts in stock.  They make nice Christmas gifts.   For more information, colors and pricing, contact me at the info below.    There are a few Lopez mugs available.

There will be NO Civic meeting in the month of December because of the Christmas holiday.   January, February and March are “iffy”, so watch the Sully for further details.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you have a nice day with family, relatives, and friends.  Think of those who are serving our Country who won’t make it home for the Holiday.  Pray that they are kept safe during these turbulent times and that  everyone will be able to live without fear.

That’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Hope those weathermen have the forecast right for theHoliday.  Don’t eat too much, but enough.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Wow!!  Had a couple cold, windy days with a few flurries.  Sunday did turn out nicer with sun and not much wind.  Later in the week it’s to warm up, so that will be nice.

Congratulations to Dustin, Sam and Gaige Burke on the arrival of their baby.  Grayson Charles John Burke was born on the 8th, weighing in at 8 lb. 9 oz. and 20 inches long.   Now the fun begins and I’m sure Gaige will be a helpful big brother.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.   Also, on the 29th, they will be having an ethnic foods dinner, Noon to 5 p.m. at the Church Hall.  This is eat-in or take out.

New Albany Volunteer Fire Company held their first production of “A Fractured Christmas Carol” on Friday and Saturday.  If you missed it, they will have their final production on Friday and Saturday, the 20th and 21st.  This is at the New Albany Social Hall and will be at 7:30 p.m.  They also have things taking place during intermission.  Get out and support the Fire Company.

Cold Spring is now running.  I’m sure everyone will be glad to hear that.  There is some landscaping that needs to be done when the ground is not so muddy.   Donations to this project still being accepted and very much appreciated.  Send yours to Lopez Civic Assoc., P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628 and mark envelope “Cold Spring”.   Thanks  for your support.

Jim and Barbara Craig, Media, spent some time at their home on Church Street.  Always something to keep them busy.

I guess there is still hunting going on, but haven’t heard if there have been any lucky hunters.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Jaeden Patson, 20th; Jeff Olsen, 22nd; Serenity Laird and Reese Baton, 23rd; and Cassidy Brown, 30th.   Hope you all have a sunny, good day.

HINT:  “For winter storage of apples, peaches and citrus fruits, keep them in a cool, dark place, such as unheated garage.  They will keep longer if they don’t touch one another.  Loosely cover to retard drying.  Wrap unblemished fruit loosely in newspaper or place crumpled newspapers between layers of fruit.  If the temperature drops below 32 degrees (which it will do here), you will need to protect them from freezing.  Line a box with a large plastic garbage bag that has holes punched in it for ventilation.  Layer fruit as described above.”   (From the book I received from Connie.  Has lots of great hints.)

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  November 15, 1973 – Clear, warm and 52 degrees.   I had 23 degrees early Sunday morning, but the sun was out really nice and it’s clear and maybe will hit 52 degrees later.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Get out and take advantage of the warm, sunny days.  There won’t be many more of them; although I did hear we are to have a mild winter.  We’ll see how right they are.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@ epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Getting some cooler weather, but is to warm up again next week.  Veterans Day will be on Wednesday, so thank those who serve and have served to keep us free.    I heard even the following week is to be “above” normal temperatures.  Maybe we’ll have a mild winter this year.

Don’t forget, Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m. the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company presents their play, “A Fractured Christmas Carol”.  This will be at the New Albany Social Hall.   Another presentation will be on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21, same time, same place.   If you get a chance to go, it’s well worth it; a fun time for all.

Tony and Patti Sneidar, Philadelphia, spent the weekend at their home on Church Street.  I imagine Tony is getting things ready for the up-coming hunting season.

Jim and Barbara Craig, Media, spent some time at their home on Church Street and enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-1099.

Got a phone call the other day wanting people to really slow down when going through town.  No need to think you’re on a super highway.  Seems a cat was hit on Main Street and killed.  If that were a child, it would be a tragedy.   Of course, pets are also like family.  So, people, please SLOW down.

If you’d like to donate to the Cold Spring project, please send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 224, Lopez, PA  18628 and mark your envelope “Cold Spring”.  The up-grade is in progress and will be done soon.

On Sunday, November 29th, St. Vladimir’s Church will have an ethnic foods dinner, Noon to 5 p.m., at the Church Hall.  This is eat in or take out and B.Y.O.B.   Sounds pretty good so have a nice meal out; you won’t have to cook; and you’re supporting the Church.

Next Civic meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17th, 6 p.m., Township Building.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray, on Saturday.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire visited his sister, Lola and Mike Mattie, Forty Fort, on Friday.  Also visited with Georgia (Mattie) Martin and son, Mcguire.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Monica Black, 16th; Alek Laird, Mike McDonald and Philip Elchak, all on the 19th.   Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to TJ and Alison Lowden as they celebrate on the 17th.  Hope you have a great day.   Hope you had an enjoyable time on your trip.

HINT:  “Rubbing alcohol will remove permanent marker.  Dab the surface that has the permanent marker on it with a cloth or cotton ball covered in rubbing alcohol and it will disappear quickly.”

I guess that’s the news for now.  I hope you all enjoy your Veterans Day holiday.  Get out while it’s still nice.  You know this won’t last forever, even though we wish it would.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.  Special Thank You to Connie for the book on hints.  I love it and they will get used in my column.

Can’t complain about the weather too much.  It’s been pretty nice the last few days and I hear the week is to be even better.  We did have some pretty cold, frosty mornings, but then it warmed up well.   Most all the gardens are done and the flower beds pretty dead looking.

IHM Parish is having their annual Fall Bazaar on Sunday, the 8th at St. Francis Hall in Mildred.  This will be from Noon to 5 p.m. with all kinds of activities going on.  If you get a chance, check it out.  It’s really a good time and a nice way to support the Church.

We had a really good turn out this year for the Civic Association Halloween party, held on Saturday, at the Pavilion.  Thanks to Chairman, Kim (Neufer) Hall, who did a good job for her first time.  Thanks to the judges, Gloria Weisbrod and Rhonda Stasiak, who had their job cut out for them in picking out the winners.  There were some awesome costumes this year.  Prizes were awarded to the following:  0-3 age group: Pretty -Khloie Bahr; Ugly – Owen O’Conner; Funny – Henry Ritinski.   4-7 age group:  Pretty – Kaeleigh McDonald; Ugly – Gaige Burke; Funny – Weston Higley.  8 -11 age group:  Pretty – Ember Higley; Ugly – Connor Partington; Funny – Luke Hontz.  12 & Up age group:  Pretty – Erica Brigham; Ugly – Kyler Burke; Funny – Layton Shen.   Everyone enjoyed refreshments.  After the party, Brian McGuire took kids, and parents, trick or treating through town on his hay wagon, pulled by his truck.  That was fun for all and thanks to him for doing that.  Thanks to all who donated “goodies” and helped with the party.  Thank you to those who had their porch light on and treated the kids when they stopped by.  Looking forward to next year.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order yours, call 570-928-1099.

New Albany Volunteer Fire Company presents their play, “A Fractured Christmas Carol” on Saturday and Sunday, November 13 and 14 and 20 and 21.  This will be held at the Social Hall and will be at 7:30 p.m.  It’s well worth it to see and support the Fire Company.

If you’d like to donate to the Cold Spring up-grade project, please send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Box 100, Lopez, PA  18628 and mark the envelope “Cold Spring”.

Next Civic meeting will be Tuesday, November 17, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to  Aiden Sperry, 13th; and Wilda (Wood) Paul, 14th.   Have a super day.

B’s gang sends Happy Birthday wishes to their buddy,  Brian McGuire as he celebrates on the 11th.  Have a great day.   Dad, Mom, Jr. and Tyler also say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy Anniversary to V Rev Andrew and Georgette Matychak as they celebrate on the 10th.  Congratulations and have a nice day.

HINT:  “Keep windows frost free by pouring a cup of salt into a liter of water.  Sponge the liquid on the inside of windows to prevent frost from forming during the winter months.”
(Have to try that as they do get frosty.)

Ted and Mary Lowden are back from NJ to their home on Maple Terrace.

We’ve seen a lot of turkeys around in the fields, but not too many deer.

Guess that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Hope the weatherman is right when he said we may hit close to 70; supposed to be our “Indian” summer.  I’ll take it and more.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.
