Got some good frost over night on Sunday into Monday morning. Sun looks nice, but it’s only 21 degrees as I’m typing my news at 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The week’s weather wasn’t all that great. It was cold, windy, rainy and a tornado watch was in effect, which was cancelled, so that was good. We sure don’t need more rain, but I heard rain all week. The ground is already so saturated. Can’t work in the garden or flower beds, just too wet. Anything planted will freeze with these cold temperatures. Whatever happened to Spring and what will Summer bring? I guess that’s Lopez living. Never know what Mother Nature has in store for us. There was a tornado watch out Friday evening, which was cancelled, so that was good. There is still clean-up going on from the last storm and tornado that went through.
Hope all you turkey hunters were successful on Saturday, the first day of the season.
St. Vladimirs Church has pierogies for sale. To order, call 570-928-1099.
Don’t forget to keep these dates marked on your calendar:
Wednesday, May 22nd — Civic meeting, 6 p.m. at the Township Building. Note date change. The 21st is Election Day so there will be voting at the Township Building that day. I do hope you’ll get out and vote.
Saturday, June 8th — Dumpster will be at the Township Building. Call Tim Brown for details.
Saturday, July 6th — Annual Lopez Flea Market – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables available and also booths can be used. Time to clean the closets, basement and garage. You may have something that someone else might be interested in. For information, call me at the number below.
HINT: The humming birds will soon be arriving. Here is the recipe for their food. Please do not use any red food coloring. Mix 4 cups boiling water and 1 cup sugar. Put in feeders and watch the cute birds come and enjoy. They usually come by Mother’s Day, but never know with this weather if they will or wait until it’s warmer. Lots of other birds at the feeders now, and we enjoy watching them. Can even put bird seed in our hand and feed them that way.
Happy Birthday wishes to Paige and Kyler Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th; Ted Lowden, 7th; and Diane Fanning, 9th. Hope you all have a nice day.
Hopefully with the warmer weather coming, there will be activities going on around the County. Keep an eye on the Sully for that information.
Guess that’s the news for now. Enjoy your week, even if you need the umbrella and rain boots. Could be worse. I heard Chicago was to get 10 inches of snow Saturday into Sunday before it quit. Guess we’re lucky in that respect. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
