May 6, 2020
Weather has been up and down. We had some rain last Monday; frost on Tuesday; sunny on Wednesday; heavy rain all day and into the night on Thursday. Ended up having four plus inches by Friday morning. There was flooding in some areas, which was sad as it just gets cleaned up and we get more rain. Just can’t seem to get a break. Saturday and Sunday were really nice with the temperatures hitting the 60’s and 70’s mark. Was still 70 degrees after 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. The sun felt good and I’ll take more of these sunny, warm days. Maybe the sun will dry up the wet, gushy ground.
CHANGE – There will be NO Civic meeting in May. There will be NO Memorial Day services in town. The Flea Market scheduled for late June has been POSTPONED to a later date. So, disregard what was written last week. Hopefully, we will be able to have a June meeting and get things organized and going. Watch the Sully for up-dates.
Sympathy to the Matt Dayton family on the passing of his brother Monroe (Butch) Dayton on April 29th. He spent a lot of time at Matt’s cabin on Route 487.
With the nice weather over the weekend, I heard many motorcycles going out of town; heard lawn mowers running for folks to do first time spruce up of the yard; saw folks working in their garden and flower beds; and saw and heard the motorbikes running around. Was a good weekend to be out and about.
The bear made his rounds again. Was at the neighbor’s and tipped over the compost bin, went through the garden and the bee balm patch that had just been transplanted. I did see on Face Book a mother and three cubs in Mildred area.
Lots of birds around, but no hummers yet. Should be soon. Flowers are blooming and look really nice. Others don’t look so good from the frost we had earlier.
Hope many of you got your “bird” on turkey day. Haven’t heard anything from anyone about that. Will probably be pictures in the Sully.
Happy Belated birthday to Kyler and Paige Burke who celebrated on May 1st; and to JoAnn Day on the 2nd. Hope you had a nice day.
Happy Birthday to Ken Pochatko, 6th; Ted Lowden; 7th; Diane Fanning, 9th; Elizabeth Spinosa, 10th; Xander Kapler and Kessler Gilbert, 12th and Jase Lowden will be 2 years old on the 14th. Hope you all have a nice day.
Don’t forget, Sunday is MOTHER’S DAY. Honor your Mom or anyone who has a “mother” role by doing something nice for them, even if it’s a phone call, a card or a Face Book message. Make them feel special.
Guess that’s the news for now. Enjoy your week. Last I heard it’s to be cooler and maybe a shower or two. Hopefully frost and snow are over with. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
Do to the China virus situation and the maintain distancing option, Lopez will not have a Memorial Day program this year. We ask instead that every one be safe and remember all those that gave their all, those that were injured, and those that were lucky enough to return home unharmed. They are the ones that made us safe and keep us safe. Honor all Vets past and present. From Lopez, to the people that produced the Memorial Day programs and the participants over the past many many years, THANK YOU.
Bob, civic pres.
