Well, can’t complain too much about the weather. Did have a little rain and some windy days, but nothing major. Gardens and flower beds are looking good, so we do need the rain on and off to help them along, as well as filling the creeks and wells. Last I heard we are to get rain most of the week, except for Wednesday, which is to be really nice. Goats will be needed to help get the grass under control. But…….the weather can change in the blink of an eye, so we’ll wait and see what happens. Before we know it, the month of June will be gone. Hoping for more summer like weather.
Next 4-H Rocketry meeting will be held on Monday, July 3rd, 2:30 p.m. at the Extension Office in Dushore. New members welcome. Any questions, call Bob at the number below.
Fourth of July weekend will be upon us soon. July 7th and 8th is the annual Mildred Fireman’s community festival, held on the Legion grounds in Mildred. Friday is the equipment parade, games raffles, DJ providing music and lots of good home-made food. Saturday will be a corn hole tournament at Noon. At 6 p.m. the grounds will be open with the same things as Friday, except no equipment parade. DJ will provide music and to top the evening off, there will be a spectacular fireworks show after dark. Hope you can make it and support your local Fire Company.
Don’t forget, Saturday, July 15th, St. Vladimir’s Church will be celebrating their 110th anniversary. There will be many things going on from Noon until 5 p.m., so you may not want to miss this special celebration. If you have questions, call Bob Neufer at 570-928-1099.
4-H camp was held at Camp Brule from Wednesday until Sunday. They had the largest attendance this year in the whole State of PA. Kids came from Sullivan, Bradford, Tioga, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties to enjoy the fun filled days. Bob and I were there Wednesday evening so UVBOB could do two fluorescent mineral presentations for about 200 kids and counselors. Was a great time; they all enjoyed the program and asked many questions. There were a lot of oooohs and aaaaahs when the lights were turned out and the ugly rocks turned pretty. Thank you to Sandy Pardoe, Sullivan County 4-H Coordinator for having us and the opportunity to teach the kids a little about fluorescence.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order, call 570-928-1099.
Visit the new Wysox Flea Market, behind Flynn Beverage in Wysox. I hear they have many vendors, inside and out. Something for everyone. Open from Thursday to Sunday. Check it out on Face Book. Search “Wysox Flea Market” for information and photos. Hope to get there sometime.
Happy Birthday wishes to Mamie Kravitz, Don Springer and Stacy Olsen who all celebrate on July 2nd. Have a good day.
B’s gang sends birthday wishes to Chris Darrow for his day also on the 2nd. Hope it’s great.
HINT: “Sugar removes grass stains. Enzymes in sugar help break down the chlorophyll that causes grass stains. Mix 1/4 cup sugar with just enough water to make a paste. Apply to the stain and let sit for 30 minutes before washing.” (Now with summer here and kids playing outside, this would be a good one to try.)
I know there are many activities going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully for that information. You can also get information from the other reporters in their news.
Enjoy your Fourth of July weekend and do be careful, whatever you do.
