July 6, 2016
Was a fantastic weekend for the 4th holiday. Weather was great for picnics and parties. Little windy and cold early on Sat., but turned out nice later and Sunday was super. Hope you all had a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday.
Congratulations and good luck to Stacey Olsen who has opened and “eatery” at the bottom of Red Rock Mountain on Route 118. Check out her website at www.mountainsteak.com. Stop in to say hello and get a good meal. She had a grand opening on June 29th. It’s called Mountain Steak and Wings.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, July 19th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Clean up at the Pavilion to get ready for Old Home Days will be on Wednesday, July 20th, 10 a.m. Any volunteers that can help, it would be appreciated. Many hands make light work.

Flea market at the Pavilion is coming up soon. Will be on Saturday, August 20th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., so check your attic, garage and basement and see what you may not want anymore. Maybe you can sell your items and get some “spending” money.
Mrs. Irene Huray and Miss Sophie Bednar spent a week with Irene Pequignot. They attended the wedding of Jennifer Pequignot and Shawn Laird and also the graduation of Alyssa Pequignot.
Last Tuesday evening, on our usual walk, Heather Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald and I ran into a bear up the dirt road. He looked at us, we looked at him. He walked up the road and we turned around and went down the road. Then, on Thursday afternoon, about 3 p.m., we had him/her come down the road from us, walk into our yard as if it lived there. Bob got a couple pictures from the front porch. It then went next door, between the houses, back over in our yard and then down the hill. Tony Sneidar, Jr. got pictures and a video of the same bear on Maple Terrace, by the former Rosie Gardner home. Be aware as they are coming around much earlier in the day. With little kids playing outside, you never know what the bear may do.
Bob and I were invited to World’s End State Park on Saturday evening where he (UVBOB) presented the fluorescent mineral program to the campers. There were 80+ folks who attended, with lots of kids this time. Was a very good program and enjoyed by all. Many questions were asked and we were told it was very educational and “cool” to see what ugly rocks can do when put under ultraviolet lamps. Thanks to Jane Swift of World’s End for inviting us and the super job of publicity she did in getting the word out for all to go to the Visitor’s Center to take part in the program.
Tony and Patti Sneidar, Philly, spent a few days over the Holiday at their home on Church Street.
Quite a few of the Borick “off-spring” enjoyed some days at “Tent City” over 4th of July.
Old Home Day is coming up. It will be on Saturday and Sunday, August 6th and 7th. Watch for the ad in the Sully for details. Come, visit with old friends and make some new friends. There will be a spectacular fireworks display and if you’d like to help off-set that cost, please send your donation to Brian McGuire, 197 Main Street, Lopez, PA 19628. Will be much appreciated.

HINT: “Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge and, wow, the squeak is gone.”
Here’s another good hint: “When you buy a container of frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double its size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount and also eat less sugar per serving.”
From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book: July 3, 1982 – Cloudy, rain and 42 degrees. Wow!! I sure like ours for today much better. It’s warm, sunny and no rain. I’ll take it.
Charlotte Grant and her family, from Bear, DE, spent a few days over the Fourth at the Charnik/Fanning home on Church Street. All had a good time.
