Had some on and off nice weather/cold weather/snow showers/sunshine; no we need some nice, warm weather. Temperature early Sunday morning was only 10 degrees, but did warm up during the day and the sun sure helped. On a walk on Saturday, just up the road from our house, we watched as 22 turkeys came up from the creek and headed for the woods. That’s the most we’ve seen. Usually 12 or so is a lot, but they were sure out that day. I hear the weather is to warm up in the 40’s and low 50’s during the week and especially on Saturday.
If anyone is interested in helping to remove the Christmas decorations from the monument area, we can use your help. We’re meeting at the Pavilion on Saturday, the 22nd, at Noon. Shouldn’t take too long and the more help, the better.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order, please call 570-928-9011.
There is no Civic meeting for the month of January.
Check out the Lopez Civic Association items for sale on Face Book. Go to Face Book and click on “Search”. Type in Lopez Civic Association and you will see the new, retro t-shirts, koozies, and hoodies. Hoodies are especially nice for the colder weather.
Don’t think there’s a lot going on around town; haven’t seen many out and about. Hopefully, with the warmer weather, more folks will get out.
Happy Birthday wishes to Jim Rouse, 21st. Special birthday wishes to Alice Fedorchak from all her Sullivan county friends as she celebrates on the 21st. Irene Pequignot, 22nd; and Mike Stavisky (Florida), 24th. Hope you all have a nice day.

While visiting their hometown of Evesham Township, NJ, Ted and Mary Lowden attended the annual awards banquet of the Evesham Township Fire Department. Ted has been a member of that organization which consists of about 140 members, both career and volunteer for 41 years. They respond to thousands of fire and EMS incidents each year in a densely populated suburban area.
Along with about 100 members in attendance, local government elected leaders and representatives from surrounding emergency service communities attended the affair. This year the catered affair took place at Paris Catering located in Berlin, NJ. At the conclusion of the awards dancing and cocktails help the members celebrate for several hours.
The awards banquet is held each year in January and serves a platform for celebrating the dedication and successes of its members for the prior year. This year in addition to awards to members in pf both the fire and EMS divisions for their individual commitments to successful achievement of emergency service training and education, a half dozen awards for saving lives for CPR were issued, a meritorious service award for child delivery and medal of valor for life saving were bestowed upon members.
Additional awards are bestowed upon the station responder of each of the five divisions within the FD with one of those then selected as the overall Department Responder of the Year. All awards are based upon merit and in cases as necessary an independent investigation of the fact related to the nomination of the award.
HINT: “Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place the pin in the seam of the slacks and static is gone.”
I guess that’s about it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever you plan to do. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
