AUGUST 7, 2019
What can I say!! We had a couple of really miserable days with heavy rain. Was hard to get things done for the weekend, but Saturday turned out so nice for Old Home Day. Finally, no rain. Sunday was as nice with sun, warmth and a nice breeze.
The Civic Association would like to THANK EVERYONE who made our Old Home Day another success. To all who donated in any way, volunteered their time and all of you who came to support us, it was so much appreciated. Special thanks goes to Brian McGuire for chairing the event. A lot of hard work; a job well done.
The annual Homza reunion was held on Saturday at Connell’s Dam. Weekend visitors at the Huray home included: Irene Pequignot; George Homza; Sophie Bednar; Marge Whipple; Michey and Karen Bednar; Paul and Marge Bednar; Paul, Susan, Andrew and Morgan Bednar; Shawn Pequignot and friend, Jess; Dylon and Misty Pequignot and friend, Hunter; Kevin and Alyssa Pequignot; Jennifer Pequignot and friend, Andy; Elexus Dunklegerger; serenity and Alek Laird. They took a ride up to Martin’s swimming hole and there was a bear laying in the road in front of Betty Popso’s home. They also saw two buck and a doe in the cemetery. They also visited Sulfur swimming hole and did some berry picking. Good time for all.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order, call 570-928-1099.
Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, spent Saturday with Bob and JoAnn McGuire, Brian McGuire, Nina Weslowski, and helped at Old Home Day.
Don’t forget. The 4-H Sullivan County Rocketry Club will hold their launch on Saturday, the 10th, at Harvey Vough’s farm at 10 a.m. Rain date will be Sunday, the 11th.
Happy Birthday wishes to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherill Dayton, August 4th; Kyle Froese and Kathy Lebo, 9th; Randy Lebo, Jackie Craig, and Mary Lowden, 10th; and Kari Spinosa, 11th. Hope you all have a nice day.
“Camper City” (can’t call it “tent city” anymore; no tents) was filled with many campers for some time last week and the weekend. The Borick relatives were here and many of their friends came to spend time and enjoy Old Home Day. Many kids were there this year, along with some family dogs. They had a super time while they were here.
Job Corps CRC will have their annual picnic on Thursday, the 15th, 5:30 p.m. at the Pavilion. This is for anyone in the community who would like to attend, have a good meal, and find out the latest happenings at Job Corps. They are doing some pretty amazing things there.
Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 20th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Hope you can make it. September will be the start of new memberships and renewals for 2020. If you haven’t paid your 2019 membership, now is the time to do that. See Heather McDonald.
Guess that takes care of the news for now. Enjoy your week. I heard it’s finally to be pretty nice. Hope so. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks
