Had quite a rain storm on Saturday, but the rain was needed. Some places got way more than we did and a lot of damage was done. Didn’t get anything on Sunday; was hot and humid; a few dark clouds, but nothing came of them here. Heard there are to be scattered showers during the week.
St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale. To order, call 570-928-1099.
Had a nice phone chat with Delmar McCauley, an Irishman from Lancaster area. Wanted to tell me he likes reading my column and all of the Sully. He is now 83 years old, but had been up in Sullivan County many times and went through Lopez. Said reading the news brings back many good memories. Mentioned the people are much friendlier here than where he is now. He also said when he would come here, he went to the Grand Canyon, enjoyed Ricketts Glen and liked to eat at the Forksville restaurant. He now lives on a big farm with his son and is still able to get up on the machinery and help out, thanks to his son making it easy for him. Thanks for the comments, Delmar, and hope you continue to enjoy the paper.
Congratulations to Anthony and Bethany Sneidar on the birth of their first baby, a son, Dominic Anthony, born on July 24th. Have fun with the new little one. Tony and Patti Sneidar are so happy to have a grandson. Hope to see the new parents and baby in Lopez sometime.

“Tent City” is booming again this year. The relatives in the Borick family gather every year around this time to spend a week, some maybe more, at the homestead on Turrell St. Many friends also come. They all enjoy Old Home Days and they have lots of activities going on while they are here.
Many things going on in Sullivan County, so check the Sully to see what, when and where.

HINT: “For easy starting barbecue, place charcoal briquettes in an empty egg carton. Close the lid and when ready to start the fire, ignite the carton. You can also soak the carton with charcoal starter beforehand.”
(I think there are quite a few yet who still use charcoal.)
I guess that’s about all for this time. Enjoy your week; it’s to be pretty warm even if we do get some showers. Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I’ll get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
How about a step back in time? Any one remember this??
