Lopez, PA Posted on May 7, 2025 by Bob McGuireMay 7, 2025

As I sit here typing my news “early” Monday morning, the sun is rising and it’s a “cool” 27 degrees with a frost.  But, it’s gonna be a nice day from reports I saw.  We had some crazy weather the past few days.  Saturday was rainy; Sunday was very windy and sunny.  The wind kept up all day long with gusts up to 35 mph.  I hear rain is on the way for a few days during the week.  It seems that Mother Nature does not want to cooperate.  I do see the bluebirds are back.  We’ve been watching one in our birdhouse for a couple days.  Someone mentioned that the humming birds are coming back earlier and have reports that they have been seen.  With this colder weather, they may turn around and wait for a while.  I see some are getting their gardens and flower beds tilled and ready for the up-coming nicer weather.  Hopefully it will get warm to finally start planting.  I hear the bear are making their way around town, so watch out for them.

FLASH —  Meet at the Pavilion on Sunday, the 4th, at 1 p.m. for a work bee inside and outside to get ready for the summer.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Questions…..call Jodi at 971-5002 or Kathy at 610-413-6439.

Birthday wishes to Kyler and Paige Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th; and Ted Lowden, 7th.  Hope you all have a sunny day.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting.  Should be getting nice by then.

Dab some Vicks Vaporub on your ankles, wrists and neck for a bug repellent.  It’s about that time of year when the little buggers will start bothering.

Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book.  I see there are many things coming up and you may be interested in something.  Greenhouses are opening for your plants and vegetables; places are offering a variety of good food and ice cream.   There are fund raisers and benefits also in the works.  Lots to see and do in Sullivan County.

That’s all for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.  Comments always welcome.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 22, 2025 by Bob McGuireApril 22, 2025

We had some warmer weather for a few days, after cool morning starts.  On Friday it hit 83 degrees, which was nice.  Need more of them.  On Saturday there was a pretty good rain storm with lots of wind.  I did see it is to warm up during the week, but still have rain off and on.

Hope you all had a very Happy Easter and the bunny was good to you.  Was a nice, sunny day, but a little cool wind until later in the afternoon,

Happy Birthday to Leni Sonon, 24th; Katherine Kapler, 25th; Mickie Mowery, 26th and David Spinosa, 28th.  Hope you all have a great day.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, enjoyed a few days over Easter with his Dad, Bob, Jr.  He also visited his Uncle “B” and Nina Weslowski and his Grampa and Gramma.  Was nice to have him home.  Good time for all.

On the sunny, hot days that will be coming up and you’re bothered with a sunburn, you can take an Epsom Salts bath to soothe the skin.  Mix 1 cup of salts in warm bath water.  Mix to combine and soak in the bath for 10-15 minutes.

There’s always a lot going on in Sullivan County.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things that may be of interest to you.  Hopefully, the weather will start to be a little more “likeable” to be out and about.   Will be soon time to think of gardens, if the frost would stay away.  Last I heard, folks usually don’t plant until after Memorial Day.  Sometimes that’s “iffy” too.  I see some of the ice cream stands are open or will be opening soon.

Don’t have much to report, so guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week.  Stay cool.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; USPS mail; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 18, 2025 by Bob McGuireApril 18, 2025

How about this weather.  TWELVE degrees last Wednesday; a couple days in the 20’s; lots of cold, windy conditions.  I hope Spring is on the way.  We need some warm, sunny days; the wind is getting tiresome.   I did hear that Monday, the 14th, is to be the nicest day of the week.  We can only hope.   Gardens will be late getting planted this year.  With the frosts, the buds and flowers will be frozen.  The bear are really making their appearance now, so watch your feeders.  They like to demolish them and eat the seeds.  I saw some pictures on FB of some pretty big guys.  One here on Main Street was a big guy, just ambling down the driveway and into the field.

Happy Birthday to Pat Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, both on the 17th; Holly Sperry, 20th.  Have a nice day.

I hope you all have a very Blessed Easter with family and friends.

Instead of whittling a candle at the base to make it fit in the candle holder, hold the end in a cup of very hot water for a few minutes to soften the wax.  Then gently and firmly press it into the holder.

Thank you to Brian, Nina, Bob, Jr.,and Marcia for my birthday dinner on Saturday at Bob, Jr’s house.  Was a fun time and really good food.  Another year gone by.  Where does the time go.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events.  Check out some of the other news columns also.  They have a lot of listings and you may find something of interest for you.  With the warmer weather coming, the yard sales and flea markets will be popping up all over.

I think that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, even if you need your heavy coat and hat.  It will warm up, trust me.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Is it April or January?  Sure has been cold, windy and rainy so we don’t know for sure.  Now, I hear snow, maybe, on Tuesday.  It should not last too long, even we get any.  The birds are also wondering what’s going on.

The Civic Association would like to thank Mr. Ferdie Marek for his generous contribution.  Also, thanks to Brandan and Robyn McCobin for generously donating the paint and supplies to restore the Christmas statues.  They held up quite well during the winter.

Congratulations to Xander Kapler and Tessa Chapman on earning honors for the 3rd making period for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.

Bury your banana peels in the soil in your garden.  They are rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium.  They make excellent natural fertilizer and repel insects.  They can also be chopped in small pieces and added to your plants.  As they decompose, they enrich the soil. You can even make banana water by soaking the peels in water for 24 hours..  Then use the water on your plants.  (Just hope they don’t grow bananas.)

Civic meeting on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jaron Williams, 11th; John Risser, 12th; and Joyce Walsh, 13th.  Have a fantastic day.

Happy Anniversary to Michael and Georgia Martin as they celebrate on the 15th.  Enjoy your day.

There may still be events going on around the County, so keep your eye on the Sully and Face Book.to see what might interest you.  Yard sales are popping up now.  Hopefully, it will get warmer for outdoor activities.

Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Don’t let the wind blow your hat off.

Have news, call me at 570-982-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on April 8, 2025 by Bob McGuireApril 8, 2025

I’m back!!  We were so busy last weekend that I forgot all about my news.

The geese, robins and bluebirds have arrived. We had some really nice weather during the week, and more to come, along with some rain and thunder storms.  Folks are starting to prepare the gardens for planting coming up later on.  Hopefully everyone will have a good crop again this year.

The Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral show was very well attended, with close to 800, last weekend.  All the vendors seemed to do very well.  The food truck that provided the food was excellent.  We saw some local folks who attend year to year.  The kids especially enjoyed the mini-mine and got nice “treasures”.  They also liked making a cabochon and have a geode cut in half to see what was inside.  UVBOB’s mineral presentation had many adults and children to see “ugly” rocks fluoresce.  One young girl even had him autograph her mineral ID card.  Rather than his name, he signed “UVBOB’.  Made her day.   Was a great show and hope as good, or better, next year.

Thanks, Connie, for the “plug” in your column last week.

Want to know how to get rid of spiders?  Using a Q-Tip or cotton swab, spread a thin layer of Vicks along the edges of your windows and door frames.  Focus on areas where you’ve noticed them.  The strong scent of the Vicks will act as a barrier, encouraging them to go elsewhere.  Apply weekly..  There are many uses for Vicks.

I missed birthdays last week, so Happy Belated Birthday to Aaron Kinsey, March 21st; Irene Risser, 28th, and Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey, 30th.  Hope you all had a nice day.

Happy Birthday now to Tim Higley, April 1st; V Rev Andrew Matychak 5th; Shawn Pequignot, 6th; and “Team Mom”, 7th.  Have a great day.

Next Civic meeting  Wednesday, April 16th, 6 p.m., Township Building as it may still be too cold for the Pavilion.

Hope everyone is well since there are so many different viruses going around.  Maybe the nicer, warm weather will make everyone feel better.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that will be coming up that you might be interested in.  Sullivan County has many things planned during the four seasons.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, even if you need the umbrella. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time, if I don’t forget, and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 20, 2025 by Bob McGuireMarch 20, 2025

Hope you all enjoyed your St. Patrick’s weekend and wore lots of green.

We had some really windy weather and two days got up to 50+ degrees.  Was nice enough to wash clothes and hang them on the line.  They dried really well.  Sunday we had quite a thunder storm with lightning and very high winds.  Mother Nature is still telling us she’s here.  At least it wasn’t snow, for which I’m glad.  The sun came out Sunday afternoon and made for a nice afternoon.  Hopefully, it will start getting nicer now and we’ll have lots more warm weather.  The geese have been coming back, robins have been seen (I haven’t seen any).  Waiting to see if the blue birds will come back to the same nests they had last year.   I think Spring will get here within a few days.  At least, according to the calendar, but the weather changes day by day.

Hope to see you at the 55th annual Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral show this weekend, the 22nd and 23rd.  This is held at the Wysox Fire Hall and is from 9-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.  Plenty to see and do while you are there.  Food will be available for purchase.  There are nice, educational displays.  There are dealers with lots to offer in the way of minerals, books, fossils, etc.  There will be a mini-mine for the kids; you can have a geode cut open and see what’s inside and take that home;  you can make a cabochon and take it home with you.  UVBOB will be doing fluorescent mineral programs during the weekend.  Come, see what it’s all about.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Was nice to get away even though they couldn’t do much here.

B’s Gang sends birthday wishes to Steph Putnam, 17th; Kristin (Putnam) Carter, 18th; and Lori Higley, 19th.  Have a great day.

Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor’s office.  NO!!  Why?  Because it smells, and it is not healthy.  Did you know bleach was invented in the late ’40’s?  It’s chlorine.  It was used to kill our troops.  Peroxide was invented during WWI.  It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals.  (Learned a history lesson.)  Take one capful of hydrogen peroxide and hold it in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out.  No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes.  Use it instead of mouthwash.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.  Despite the weather, they had an enjoyable time.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may be coming up that you’d be interested in.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  It’s going to get better, I just know it.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

We had some really strange weather the past week.  Pouring rain all day Wednesday, but it did get up to 51 degrees.  We had some really windy and frigid weather.  Didn’t know what it was going to do next.  On Saturday a snow squall went through that covered roads and made for an icy mess for a while. I guess Mother Nature isn’t done yet.  Hoping for Spring and warmer weather soon.  Supposed to arrive on the 20th, so we’ll see what happens.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, had a nice visit with Linda (Hallabuk) Baton on Saturday at The Highlands in Laporte.  She also stopped by to visit us while she was in Lopez.

Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Weisbrod, 14th; Kathy Isett, 15th; Gianna DiRocco, 16th; and Don Risser, 17th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Che-Hanna 55th annual Gem and Mineral show is coming up soon.  Check the article here in the Sully and more information on Face Book.  Hope to see many of you there.

Did you know if you place the heel of the bread on top of cabbage before putting the lid on and cooking it——there will be no odor.  The bread has an effect on the cabbage and can be removed after cooking.  This also works well for brussel sprouts and broccoli.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for those activities coming up that you may be interested in.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowki enjoyed a mini vacation in Bonita Springs, FL, where they visited friends.  They also visited his Uncle John and Aunt Barb Hart and their son, Greg, in Valrico, FL.  Weather was perfect and they did some sightseeing, played some mini golf, had excellent food and just an enjoyable time while they were there.

That’s it for this time.  Enjoy your week, Better days are ahead from looking at the map.  Maybe some rain, hopefully no ice, and lots of sunshine.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, how do you like that brisk wind we’ve been having.  It’s been brutal for a few days, but the sun is at least out to help a little.  Does this mean March is coming in like a lion and will go out like a lamb?  Sure hope so.  Heard some warmer temperatures on the way with some rain too.  Spring is coming, have no fear.  A couple days it did get up to 40+ and that was nice.

SPRING AHEAD!!  Turn your clocks AHEAD ONE HOUR on Saturday before you go to bed.

Happy Birthday to Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, both on the 10th; Julian Bonner, 11th; and Bob McGuire, Sr., 13th.  Hope you all have a nice day,

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the weekend in Allentown with her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski.  Weather was nice for travel and visiting.

You can remove a splinter by taking an Epsom salts bath.  The salts will draw out the splinter and leave the area clean.  Who really has time to do that?  I think the needle works much faster, but give it a try,

Lopez Civic meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building,.

Check out the Sully and Face Book for any events coming up that might be of interest to you.  I see the Eagles Mere Toboggan slide is closed for the season.  It was so good to finally have it open for the many that came to enjoy the ride and see what else was going on around Eagles Mere and the County.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy the cold week and think sunny, warm thoughts for Spring to come soon,  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  If anyone would like their birthday or anniversary in my column, please let me know and I will put you on my calendar.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 26, 2025 by Bob McGuireMarch 5, 2025

Finally had a couple days of warmer weather, along with days of cold weather.  Sunday it hit 37 degrees with sunshine.  The week is to be pretty nice too.  Hope some of the ice gets melted.  Last thaw was good, but night time came and it all froze into a solid mass of ice.  Lots of “grippers” were used to get around.

Nice to see the Eagles Mere Toboggan slide is still running.  Not long lines now and it’s a fast ride down over the lake, but a slow walk back up the hill.  Brian McGuire, Nina Weslowski, Tim and Lori Higley enjoyed it on Saturday afternoon.  Sad it was fun and about 45 mph.  This was a first time for Nina, Tim and Lori.  Right ahead of them to ride was TJ, Allison and Jase Lowden, and a friend of theirs, with Ted watching from the sidelines.  What a fun day they all had.  From some pictures i saw on Face Book, it looked pretty windy too, going at that speed.

I goofed in last week’s paper when I said Clair Johnson II celebrated his birthday on the 29th.  I meant to hit the “0”, but missed.  His special day was the 20th. There aren’t even 29 days in February this year.  (LOL)

Happy Birthday wishes to Linda Baton, 8th; and Janelle Day, 9th.  Have a good day.

Fourth weekend in March will be the 55th Annual Che-Hanna Rock and Gem Show.  Check out details on Face Book Events.  There will be an article in the Sully soon.

Did you know you can use Peroxide to clean mirrors?  Just spray some on and wipe clean.  No smearing, works like a charm.

I know there may be more things coming up in the weeks ahead, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book  to see if there’s something of interest to you.  I know they’re going to try and get the Sleigh Rally in; it has been cancelled twice; Mother Nature did not cooperate for that.

Lopez Civic Association meeting coming up on Wednesday, March 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Contact Jodi Brumwell or Kathy Isett for details.

Get well wishes to all those who are not feeling well.  Still a lot of ” junk” going around that is making people sick.  And, it does not go away soon; sometimes lingers for 3-4 weeks, or longer.  Hope you all feel better soon,

Guess that’s about it.  Enjoy your week, especially is we have nice, sunny, warm weather.  I’ll take ti for sure.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

I guess the groundhog was right.  I think we’re in for six more weeks of winter and then some.  This weather we’ve been having is brutal.  The wind is never ending and the temperatures really drop down over night and don’t go up much during the day sometimes.  We did have a couple of days that hit 40 degrees.   We had some rain and very icy conditions.  Sure hope it clears up soon.   The week’s weather I heard is not to be so good, with a snow storm coming about Thursday.  Early to tell, but hope it’s wrong.  Stay safe everyone.

Happy Birthday wishes to Clair Johnson II, 29th; Armond Spinosa, 22nd; Jacob Williams, 23; and Bob McGuire, Jr., 26th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Nice to see that there are so many enjoying the Eagles Mere Toboggan slide.  It’s up and running when weather permits.  It’s a good fund raiser for the Fire Company.

Don’t have much news as I’m not out and about with the cold, snowy, icy conditions.   Don’t need any more aches and pains.  There are still some flu bugs going around, so get well to those who don’t feel quite up to “par” right now and hope you feel better soon.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may be coming up that you’d be interested in.   It was too bad the Sleigh Rally had to be cancelled, but hopefully it will take place later in the month.

I think that’s about it.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; snail mail me, see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 12, 2025 by Bob McGuireMarch 5, 2025

Winter is still with us.  Had some pretty cold days.  Had a couple of warm days.  It got up to 45 degrees last Monday.  Had some pretty good wind gusts.  I hope better weather is on the way.  From the forecast I saw, it doesn’t look too good for the week.  I guess we’ll take whatever Mother Nature throws our way.

Seems like everyone is enjoying the Eagles Mere toboggan slide.  Need the colder weather for that to run,  I’m glad to see it going as that’s a major fund raiser for the Eagles Mere Fire Company.  If you’re in the area, take a ride.  It’s a good ride down over the lake.  The hard part is walking back up the hill with the sled.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for information on the 55th annual Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral Show, coming up the 4th weekend in March.  Lots to see and do while you’re there.  Mark your calendar for March 22 and 23.  Hope to see you there.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, braved the cold, snowy weather and spent a few days at their home here.  Since Diane couldn’t work outside, she enjoyed putting her puzzle together.

Happy Birthday to Tommy VanDyke, 14th; Haley Latch, 15th; Allison Lowden, 17th; and Khloie Bahr, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Linda (Hallabuk) Baton is now a resident at The Highlands in Laporte.  If you’re in the area, stop in and say Hello.  I’m sure she’d be glad to see you. Or, send a cheery card.   Hope she is doing better after her hip and arm surgery.

An Epsom salt bath is a wonderful way to draw toxins out of your body.  Soaking in a bath for 10-15 minutes is also a good way to reduce swelling.  Mix 1-2 cups of Epsom salts in a warm bath and mix to dissolve in the water.

Lot of flu bugs going around, so get well to anyone suffering from the flu or a cold.  Hope you’re feeling better soon.  Can’t wait for warm, sunny days.

That’s about it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans.  Make the best with whatever you do.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 5, 2025 by Bob McGuireMarch 5, 2025

Enjoying the nice cold, windy, snowy weather?  It is that time of year so should be expected.  It is snowing Sunday evening as I sit here and type my news. We had rain all day on Friday, colder on Saturday, and really cold and windy on Sunday, with only 3 degrees in the morning.  The high for Sunday was only 23 degrees.   That wind we’ve been having is making lots of tree limbs and branches to fall and even some trees have come down.

Glad to hear the Eagles Mere toboggan slide is finally in operation after 11 years not working, due to weather conditions.  It was closed Friday evening, due to rain, but did open on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.  Quite the crowd was there as it’s quite exciting to ride that sled down the hill and across the lake.  The hard part is walking back up with the sled for another ride.  So many people waiting in line, they had to close down selling tickets because they wouldn’t be able to ride.   Great job by all those who helped make this happen, during some really cold weather.  It’s a nice fundraiser for the Eagles Mere Fire Company.  Hats off to all for what you do!  We may get some warmer weather during the week, with more rain.

Keep an eye on the Sully and FB for those things that may be up-coming, some will be weather permitting.   You may be interested in taking part in them or just watching.  I know the Sleigh Rally and the Chocolate/Wine walk is Saturday, the 15th.

Happy Belated birthday to our grandson, Tyler, who celebrated 24 years on Ground Hog day.  Yes, we will have six more weeks of winter.

Birthday wishes also to Dee Whatley, 4th; Alex Aharonian, 11th; and Lisa Williams, 13th.  Have a nice day.

Get well wishes to all those who may not be feeling “up to par” right now and hope you feel better soon.  Lots of “stuff” (crap) going around right now.

More information on the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral 55th annual show will be in the Sully soon.  Mark your calendar for March 22 and 23.  Will keep you posted.

Lopez Civic Association is still on hiatus until the third Wednesday in March.  Meetings are at 6 p.m. and are held at the Township Building.  Membership dues are due, so contact Kathy Isett at 610-413-6439.  You can also let her know if you’d like to me a member.

I think that’s all I have for now.  Enjoy your week; I know there will be lots to do.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

BRRRRR is all I can say for the week’s weather.  We had Minus 23 and minus 21 and very windy conditions.  Too frigid to do much outside.  The kids had a two hour delay.  Then, on Sunday, it hit 34 degrees, which felt pretty good.  Sun was shining, but still a frigid wind.  Most of the next week is to be fairly nice until Thursday when there may be a cold spell again.

Congratulations to Kyleigh McDonald and Ruby Malkemes for Outstanding Achievement, who both scored  Advanced in all subjects of the 2024 PSSA tests and the Keystone All Star tests.  Kyleigh was awarded a certificate and medal for the PSSA tests and Ruby was awarded a certificate and medal for the Keystone All Star tests.  Well deserved honor!

Please keep Linda (Hallabuk) Baton in your thoughts and prayers as she fell and broke her hip and her arm.  She is at UPMC in Williamsport right now.  Hope she can come home soon.

Got an e-mail from Joyce Bohensky Johnson Ford in Pensacola, FL. listing the best places to live and retire.  Lancaster, PA, was listed as the #1 place to retire, followed by Harrisburg, PA #2.  Pensacola, where Joyce lives, was named 3rd best place to retire.  Pensacola’s overall rating from US News & World Report is 6.4 out of 10.  Think that’s the reason people are moving to FL?  Also in the top 25 were FL cities, including Melbourne #12; Lakeland #13; Ocala #16; and Port St. Lucie #22.   The rest of the article was interesting, but too much to put here.  Thanks Joyce.

Hppy Birthday to Jennifer Pequignot Laird, 28th; and Lisa and Jason Burke, both on the 30th.  Hope you have a nice day.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, stopped by to visit us on Saturday when she was in town.

Did you know you can use Listerine for clogged nose and sinuses?  Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold or plugged sinus.  It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria.  Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up that you may be interested in.  The BIG news is that the Eagles Mere toboggan slide is going to be held this year.  Opening day is Friday, the 31st.  Go check it out.  Wear warm clothes and be prepared to take a long walk back up the hill.  There is a lot of this mentioned, along with pictures, on Face Book.  This is great news as 2014 was the last time it operated, due to warm weather..  Enjoy!

I think that’s all the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Brrrr!  It’s cold outside.  We have MINUS 5 at 7:30 a.m. early Monday morning and guess it’s going to get worse during the week.  Be safe out there; dress warm; and don’t go out if you don’t have to. Glad the kids had no school, due to Martin Luther King holiday.   Had some snow on Sunday evening; enough to plow and shovel.  Hopefully that’s it for a while, but I don’t think so.

Irene Pequignot recently attended her granddaughter, Elexus Dunkleberger’s pinning where she also received the Daisy award for extraordinary nursing.  The next day, she attended her graduation for her Associate of Applied Science Assoc. degree for nursing.  After, they all enjoyed lunch to celebrate.  Congratulations, Elexus!

Did you know you can make your own home-made drain cleaner?  Dump 1/2 cup baking soda in the drain.  Add 2 cups vinegar and 1 cup hot water.  Let sit 20 minutes.  Flush with boiling water.

The annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club show is slowly coming up.  Check the Sully and FB for all the information.  It’s a great show and you should attend, if you can.  Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 22nd and Sunday, March 23rd.

Remember, St. Vladimir’s Church has no pierogies for sale until Spring when they hope to start again.  Will keep you informed.

Happy Birthday to Irene (Huray) Pequignot, 22nd; Scott Aharonian and Anna Williams, both on the 27th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Alex and Ginny Stavisky, 22nd and Al and Jeannie Kapler, 23rd.  Have a great day.

Civic meetings will start again in March, weather permitting.  Third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.  Membership dues are now due.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your cold, cold week, whatever you may be doing.  Dress in layers if going out to keep warm.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get your item in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

editor note: Tuesday hit -19.5 degrees and that’s pretty cold.

COLD & WINDY!!!  Had some pretty low temperatures; some flurries and about an inch of snow.  Heard there is another storm coming around the 18th.  We shall see.

Get well wishes to anyone bothered with colds or flu.  There is a lot of stuff going around again.  Feel better soon.

Did you know you can use Epsom Salts for dry, cracking, flaking lips?  Heal this uncomfortable condition with a homemade Epsom salt lip balm.  Mix equal parts organic coconut oil and Epsom salts.  Apply to lips generously to exfoliate and moisturize.

Won’t be long and the annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Show will be here.  It’s held the fourth weekend in March at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Co. Social Hall.  Lots to see and do.  Posters will be put out soon with all the information.  Watch the Sully and Face Book for articles and up-dates.  Food will be available for purchase.  Hope to see you there.

Keep an eye on FB and the Sully for up-coming events you might be interested in.  The Sully has a section on “Events of Interest”.  Check them both out and you might find something to “tickle your toes”.  There are a few things coming up that need snow to take place.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you may do.  Let’s hope Mother Nature and Ol’ Man Winter will be good to us and not leave us with a lot of snow.  I know it’s winter and we get snow and  I know it’s pretty, but shoveling and plowing aren’t fun.

Have news give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for your.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Stay warm, everyone.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 12, 2025 by Bob McGuireJanuary 12, 2025

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!   Hope the 2025 year will be a good one for everybody.

We ended the year with some really cold weather; some snow; and the wind.  As I type my news this Sunday morning, it is sunny and 18 degrees, but still windy.  No snow so far, which is good, I guess.   Seems like the week is going to be pretty good too, with little or no snow.  That can change in an instant, so just have to watch out the window and see what we see.

FLASH:  St. Vladimir’s Church has SOLD OUT on pierogies.  They hope to be back in production in the Spring, if all goes well.  I will keep you informed as soon as I know when that will take place.

We had a nice visit from Bill and Linda Pfieffer, Hughesville, when they came to wish us a Happy New Year.  Lots of catching up to do and was a fun time.  She brought her really good homemade fudge, cheese and beef stick; and she went home with a loaf of homemade chocolate zucchini bread.

Happy Birthday wishes to start off the New Year are sent to Jeannie Kapler and Alex Stavisky, 4th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th; John McDonald, Jr., 9th.  Have had/have a nice day.

B’s gang wishes Tyler Higley a great day as he celebrates his birthday on the 13th.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver as they celebrate on the 12th.  Have a fantastic day.

Did you know that if you add one teaspoon of water when frying ground beef, it helps pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski spent the New Year’s weekend with her family in Boston.  They helped her Nan celebrate her 102nd birthday on New Year’s Eve.   God Bless her.  Many more, Nan.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  You will probably have to bundle up if you are out and about.  That air is sharp.  Have news give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopez.pa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

What a frigid day, Saturday, as I sit and type my news.  Supposed to get some pretty cold weather, so bundle up if you’re going out.

I missed the end of the year birthdays last week, so here they are.

Happy Birthday to V Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, 19th; Alyssa Pequignot, 20th; Everlyn Brumwell, 21st; Kaeleigh McDonald and Lillie Ann Bahr, 23rd; and Ginny Stavisky, 31st,  Hope you all had or will have a great day.

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many, many friends of Mary Lowden who passed away on the 19th after her hard fought battle with ALS.   She touched many people’s lives with her kindness, laughter and just being a good person.  Taken way too soon and she will certainly be missed by all who  knew her.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m..  To order call 732-221-2803.

MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all.  HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR too.   Enjoy the holidays with family and friends.

Thanks to John and Chris for allowing me to write my news for the past year.  It’s been fun and I’ve enjoyed the comments I’ve gotten.  Hope the Sully staff has a very Merry Christmas.

This is the last paper until the New Year, but if you do have news you’d like in, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Like the nice frosty weather?  We had some really cold temperatures last week.  Had some snow and some nicer days too.  I guess we can now say winter is here with the single digit numbers.   I did hear some nicer weather for this week.  Gotta take what we get.

Congratulations to the following students who all made the Distinguished Honor Roll for the first marking period.  This includes Reese Baton; Greyson Schiele; Miles Baton; Makayla Day’ Kyleigh McDonald; Izabella Capriotti; Ruby Malkemes; Kaeleigh McDonald; Adriana Capriotti; and Bruno Day.  Great job and keep up the good work!

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Did you know if you pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip, you will not have a clingy skirt or dress.  Works also with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose.  Try it.  Static will be gone.

To get the full weather report, check Sam Burke’s weather in the paper.

Enjoy your week.  Got your Christmas shopping done?  Still time to do that last minute run to the store for gifts.  Shop local and support the small businesses.  May need the snow shovel this week.  Time will tell.

Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome.

Weather has been up and down.  Can you believe 45 degrees Sunday for the 7th of December.  Sun was nice and melted a lot of the snow.  See the whole week’s weather in Sam’s Lopez weather report elsewhere in the paper.  I did hear it’s to be in the 40’s for most of the week, with rain predicted.  Sure did see a lot of BIG buck pictures in last week’s paper.  There were some lucky hunters out there for sure.  If it’s still hunting season, good luck hunters.  If not, good luck next time.

Sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Roseanne Lukachik who passed away on Friday, the 6th.  She had been very active in her Church, Mildred American Legion Post and the Civic Association.  Such a pleasant person and always had a kind word for everyone.  She certainly will be missed.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order, call 732-221-2803.

I see more Christmas decorations going up and they look quite festive.   Santa will be here before you know it.  I hope all the boys and girls have been nice as Santa is checking his list.

Remember, no Civic meeting until March 2025.

Happy Birthday to Noah Brown, 14th; Carter Vermiere and Austin Stavisky, 17th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Here’s a tip for those of you who like garlic and use it in your cooking.  Add garlic immediately to a recipe for a light taste.  Add garlic at the end of a recipe for a stronger taste.

I think there will still be things going on around the County, so keep an eye on “Events of Interest” in the Sully and also Face Book to see what might interest you.

Haven’t been out and about so don’t know a who lot of news.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you get into.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 2, 2024 by Bob McGuireDecember 2, 2024

Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving with whoever you celebrated it with.  Weather wasn’t bad at all.  Saturday was 15 degrees for a low and Sunday was 10 degrees for a low.  Always a lot of wind, frost and cold.  But, it is that time of year.  Hopefully some calm, nice weather is on the way yet.

Hunters—did you bag your trophy deer?  If not, I think there is still time.  I did see a couple of pictures on Face Book and in the Sully where some got some pretty big ones.  I think if the snow stays in the fields, the hunters will have a better time tracking and getting it out of the woods or wherever it may be.   Food for the winter months.

Did you know that tomatoes and take stains off your hands?  And, they can also take stains out of white clothes.  Good information.  Thanks, Connie.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski enjoyed Thanksgiving weekend with her family in Boston, MA.

Bob McGuire, Tyler McGuire, and Marcia Pedro fixed a delicious Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the fixings at his house.  Tyler made a really good pumpkin pie.  I was not feeling up to par, so didn’t do any of the cooking.

Happy Birthday to Kevin Partington, 4th; Elexus Dunkleberger, 6th; Gabriel Williams and Robyn McCobin, 8th; Aaron Risser, 9th; and Alexis Musani, 10th.  Hope you all have an awesome day.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book.  There’s always something listed in “Coming Events” in the Sully and on SC News and Bulletin Board on FB.  You may something of interest to you.   Haven’t heard anything so far about the Eagles Mere toboggan slide, but may be a bit early yet.

Hope everyone is well.  If not, I hope you get better soon.  Maybe this cold weather will kill the germs that are going around.

Enjoy your week, whatever you plan to do.  I see many are getting their trees up and decorations done outside.  Will look pretty nice with the lights on at dark.

Had quite the snow storm Thursday into Friday.  Got dumped with 12+ inches.  Made for a really snowy day on Friday with schools closed and bad road conditions.  Our power went off at 5:15 a.m. on Friday and just got it back at 2:15 on Sunday afternoon.   Thank you to all those hard workers that got the power restored as soon as they could.  Lots of damage done with the heavy, wet snow.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, is spending Thanksgiving week with his Dad, Bob, Jr., Uncle B, Nina Weslowski and us.  Looking for a good visit while he is here.

December birthdays coming up include Kevin Partington, 4th and Elexus Dunkleberger, 6thj.  Have a nice day.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

There will be Civic meetings for the winter months, unless a special one may be called to take care of business.   Civic dues are now due.  See Kathy Isett or give her a call at 610-413-6439.  Next meeting should be the third Wednesday in March, 2025.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all with your friends, family and loved ones.   Make it a special day.

Not much else to report.  Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events you may be interested in.

We’ve had some nice weather, some frosty weather, some warm weather and always windy days.  I think it’s going to be cooler now, but we can hope for more nice days.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski hosted a Halloween Party/50th Birthday (Brian) Bash on Saturday at their home on Main Street.  Friends near and far came for a great evening.  So much variety and delicious food brought by those who came.   Lots of visiting and catching up.  Most everyone came in costume and there were some pretty good ones.   There was an amusing slide show, presented by Diane Karonian and her family, of Brian from his early years to today.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, along with their son, Paul, and his friend, Chris, Allentown, spent the weekend with Brian and Nina and had a good time at the party.

Tent City was pretty much full over the weekend as they all came in to attend the party for Brian.    What a fantastic time for all.

Happy 50th  Birthday “B”, on the 11th, and many more.

Happy Birthday toTim Bullis, 5th; Teri Bullis, 7th; Grayson Burke, 8th; and Aiden Sperry, 13th.  Have a great day.

Special Birthday wishes to Mr. Ferdie Marek as he celebrates 99 years young on the 12th.  Have a fantastic day.

John Caccia of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24th, 2024.  He was born June 22, 1936 in Lopez, PA, the son of the late John J. and Helen (Maksimiak) Caccia. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Victoria Matera in 2011; along with sister-in-law Sharon Caccia. He is survived by his brothers Joseph (Edda) Caccia of Horseheads, NY, Ronald Caccia of Aurora IL, and James (Marilyn Moberly) Caccia of Cincinnati, OH;  For complete obit go to:

Irene Peqignot, Linden, spent Saturday at her home here.

Hope you all are in good health and enjoying the nice weather yet.  Pretty soon, down the road, we’ll get some “not so nice” weather.  I don’t look forward to it, but it’s coming.

Out of Windex?  Fill a cup with water half way and fill the other half with Listerine.  Pour it on your glass table or spray on your windows and wipe off with a paper towel.  Sparklingly, smudge-free glass.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may be going on around the County that you might be interested in.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever your plans are.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments always welcome

As I sit here Sunday evening typing my news, I see we finally got some much needed rain.  Still need more to really wet things down so there is still a burn ban in effect.  We did have some frosty days, always windy, and some nice, sunny days.  May get some more rain during the week.   Haven’t seen many animals around lately.  Guess they’re trying to stay away from the hunters.  Hope you hunters were lucky during archery season and got your deer.  It ended on Saturday and rifle will be in next for you to try again.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 20th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Membership dues are now due and being taken by Kathy Isett.  To renew or to join, see Kathy or give her a call at 610-413-6439.

Happy Birthday to Castiel Williams, 15h; Mike McDonald and Alek Laird, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to TJ and Alison Lowden as they celebrate on the 17th.   Have a great day.

Did you know that watermelons are good for you?  They contain Vitamin, A, B6, C, lycopene, inflammation fighting antioxidants and minerals, even though they are mostly water.  Lycopene also is valued for its role in protecting the cardiovascular system and preventing some cancers.  Interesting.  I did not know this, and I do like watermelon.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book, especially the news columns of Connie Hatch and Eloise Caseman.  They know a lot of what, when and where things go on in the County.  And, you’ll enjoy Eloise’s “joke of the week”.

Guess that’s about it for now.  Enjoy your week, even though it may be a bit rainy, should be warm, from what I saw.  But, you know Mother Nature.  She can change her mind any time.

Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; snail mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will do my best to get it all in.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Always enjoy the comments.

Lopez, PA Posted on November 20, 2024 by Bob McGuireNovember 20, 2024 1

We had some wicked wind during the week.  I saw a gust of 25.4 mph.  Lots of frost and some sun too.  Maybe Mother Nature is telling us something.  We’ve been very lucky so far.  Almost the end of November and can’t complain.  Just hope it stays nice for Thanksgiving and Christmas for those who will be traveling.

It gets dark so early, the other night it was 6 p.ml and I thought it was time for bed.  Makes for a real dreary day.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  To order call 732-221-2803.

Happy Birthday to some fine folks out there who will be  celebrating.  Serenity Laird, 23rd; Parker Schiele, 24th and Cassidy Brown, 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Did you know you can use Listerine as a deodorant?  My report says it really does work.  It’s great for fighting odors  Dab some on a cotton ball and gently rub it in your arm pits.  Give it a try!

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.

Got your Christmas shopping done?  There’s still time and there are local businesses to get those nice gifts for your loved ones.  Shop local and give them the support.

Civic dues are now due.  See Kathy Isett or give her a call at 610-413-6439 to renew or to join the Civic Association.  Only a buck and would be nice for some of the younger ones to get involved with helping.  Older folks are also welcome.

Hope everyone is feeling really good, with the Holidays on the horizon.  No fun being under the weather at this special time of year.  I see some folks are getting their Christmas decorations up and they look very festive and bright.  Love seeing all the displays for the season.  I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but if you’re in the mood for Christmas, go for it!  Won’t hurt anyone and may brighten up your day.

Check Sully and Face Book for up-coming events you may be interested in.  The Sully has many listed under “Events of Interest”.  You may find something to your liking.

I guess that’s it for now  Enjoy your week, even if it’s not the best.  Good weather is on the way.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Comments always welcome.

Some frosty mornings, but nice, sunny weather during the day.  Enjoy while you can.   I see there are some nice days during the week again, but we never know what Mother Nature has in store for us.  We’ve been pretty lucky so far.

Civic Association Halloween party on Thursday, the 31st, 6 pm. at the Pavilion.  Food, fun, prizes.  Trick or treat later so if you’d like kids to stop by, please have your porch light on.  There are some pretty neat Halloween displays around town.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Call 732-221-2803 to order.

Sunday, November 3rd, turn your clocks BACK one hour.  It’s fall behind this time.

Tuesday, November 5th, please get out and VOTE.  It’s your right and your privilege to do this.

Happy Birthday to Marty Whatley, 25th, Makayla Day, 27th; Lydia Spinosa, 28th; Misty Pequignot, 31st.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Marty and Dee Whatley as they celebrate on the 27th.  Many more happy days.

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge, add an empty paper towel or gift wrap roll to the end of your vacuum.  It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

I think there will still be things going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what you may be interested in.  I know gardens and flower beds are winding down, but I think they did really well this year.  If you read Connie Hatch’s or Eloise Caseman’s news, you will find what’s happening.  They know a lot more around Sullivan County than I do.  You will also get a “kick” out of Eloise’s “joke of the week”.

Enjoy your week.  I’m sure it’s a busy time for all, with Thanksgiving and Christmas on the way.  October will be gone; seems impossible it went that fast.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Have a good week and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for reading.

Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful weather.  Did have 6 days of early frost, but warmed up quite nicely by afternoon.  More nice days to come.  Sure hope this is our Indian summer.  I could take this all winter, but I know lots of you love the cold and snow.  We will have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.

Volunteers needed —  There will be a work bee at the Pavilion on Saturday, the 26th, at 10 a.m. to prepare the statues for the Christmas display.  If you can spare a few minutes, or more, help would be appreciated.

There will be  decorating done on Wednesday, the 30th at 5 p.m. to get ready for the Halloween party, which will be held on Halloween night, the 31st, 6 p.m., at the Pavilion.   There will be food, prizes and fun. Get your “spooky” outfit ready, or even a “beautiful” one.   Hope to see you there.  If you can come to either of these work bees, please show up and give a hand.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Happy Birthday wishes to Marty Whatley, 25th; Makayla Day, 27th; Lydia Spinosa, 28th; and Misty Pequignot, 31st.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Marty and Dee Whatley as they celebrate their special day on the 27th.  Have a super day.

Did you know you can use Listerine in your toilet to freshen it?  If you feel it’s a waste to use so much, spit in a cup after rinsing your mouth, and dump that in the toilet, killing bacteria in two places.  It’s not just mouth wash any more.

Hope everyone is feeling good.  If not, I send you best wishes to feel better and have a full recovery.  ‘Tis the season for sickness and so many viruses seem to be going around.

Take a look when riding around town and see the pretty neat Halloween displays.  There will probably be more doing decorating, but so far looks pretty good.

That’s it.  Enjoy your day.  Weather looks pretty good.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Fall weather is upon us.  We had some pretty nice days last week with early morning frosts and warmer temperatures during the day.  It got down to 23 degrees and heavy frost on Friday.  Guess it’s that time of year.  There was quite a thunder storm, with lots of lightning and heavy rain on Sunday.   More warm weather on the way, from what I hear.  We are very lucky with our weather so far.  Pray for those in the southern states that are still recovering from Helene and then got hit with Milton.  Will take some time to get everything cleared up down there.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order call 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Here’s something for you to try.  I know it works as the person who sent it to me tried it.  To remove a brown ring from the inside of your toilet, use a wet pumice stone.  Rub lightly and it will be removed and leave no scratches.  (Thanks, Irene)

Happy Birthday to Bob Burke, 14th; Ken Smith and Josh Anderson, 17th; Marie Cikovic 19th; and Aine Lee McDonald, 21st.  Hope you all have a bright, sunny day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Fay Puzo, 14th and Kevin and Teri Bullis, 20th.  Have a great day.

Get well wishes to anyone who might be feeling under the weather and hope you feel better soon.

Had a nice phone chat with Carole Kilgus.  They are all doing fine and enjoying the nice weather in New Holland.  She said their trees are just beautiful with color now.  Carole said to give her Hellos to all her friends in Sullivan County.  She misses being here.  She wishes everyone the best days to come.

Keep watch reading the Sully or Face Book.  I’m sure there will be more events taking place around the County that might spark your interest.  May need a heavier jacket, but nice to do.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  I’m hoping it will be nice.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you are enjoying this nice Fall weather, even though we did have some rain but some really nice days. The leaves are sure falling off the trees, since it’s been so windy,  and the color has been pretty nice in most areas.   We are very lucky.  Pray for those in the states where Helene did so much damage.  Another storm, Milton, is to hit down there again this week.  Would be nice if it tracks back out to sea and give those people a break.  Devastation is heartbreaking.  Will take many, many months to get things back in order.   I’ve seen plenty of deer and turkeys lately.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 pm.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.

Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.  Membership dues now due.  See Kathy Isett.

Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, spent a nice weekend with his Dad, Bob Jr. and visited with his Uncle B and Nina Weslowski and also with us.  Was a good time.  He and I even got to play some ladder golf, which he won every time.  It’s not about winning; it’s just fun.

Did you know Listerine has many uses, other than mouth wash?  Give your feet a pedicure by mixing Listerine with warm water and a cup of vinegar.  Soak your feet for 30 minutes.  It’s also good for getting rid of toenail fungus and is good for dry, cracked feet.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events that may be coming up that you’d be interested in.  Let’s hope we get some more nice, warm, sunny weather.  Just not ready for what is sure to be coming.

Hope everyone is well and the viruses are staying away.   Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  I think it’s to be pretty nice.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Stay well, stay safe and see ya next time.  Comments always welcome.

Little nippy for three days, with temperatures in the 30’s.  Did warm up nicely during the day.  Guess we have to expect this since it is the end of August and more cooler temperatures are on the way.  The weekend was really nice.  I hear rain in the forecast for a few days during the week, but maybe will change and be nice for the Labor Day holiday.  The leaves are starting to change color.  The flowers are still pretty nice.  The gardens are doing quite well.

TIME CHANGE —  The fluorescent mineral program at Worlds End will be at 8:30 p.m., rather than 9 p.m.  UVBOB will show you how ugly rocks turn pretty when using ultraviolet light.  This will be held at the new Amphitheater.   Hope to see you there.

Sullivan County fair starts this week on Wednesday, the 28th, and runs until September 1st.  Lots for everyone to see and do there.  Hopefully there will be nice weather.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home here.  Was perfect weather to get outside chores done and just enjoy there time here.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale the first and third Sunday of the month.  To order, call 440-645-9719 or 732-221-2803.  They can be picked up at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.

Happy Anniversary to Chase and Jodi Brumwell as they celebrate on September 2nd.  Have a nice day.

Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events going on around the County.  There will something of interest for you, I’m sure.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  Stay well.  Let’s hope Mother Nature will be good to us.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
