Here is another oneHad some much needed rain again during the week. It did turn out nice for the weekend for Halloween parties and other activities that were going on. Looks like more rain for the coming week.
If you want trick or treaters on Halloween to stop at your house, please leave the porch light on, so they know they can stop.
NOV. 2nd – time to change the clocks again. Turn your clock BACK one hour before going to bed on Saturday evening.
NOV. 4th – Election Day. Get out and vote.
“Spaghetti and Meatballs” spent the weekend Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. Had an enjoyable time while they were here.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here. Along with them was Diane’s cousin.
I’ve been hearing the saws and wood splitters telling me some are getting their winter wood supply ready for the up-coming you know what.
Keep an eye on the Sully for future events that will be going on in the County. There may be something to “spark” your interest. Sullivan County has lots of “cool” things to see and do.
Did you know fresh eggs are rough and chalky in appearance. Old eggs are smooth and shiny. To determine whether an egg is hard boiled, spin it. If it spins round and round, it is hard boiled. If it wobbles and will not spin, it is raw. Pierce the end of an egg with a pin and it will not break when placed in boiling water.
Guess that’s it. Enjoy your week; wear your “galoshes” if it does rain. Be glad it’s not snow as it has fallen in some places. Hope we don’t get any for a while yet. Before we know it, November will be here and it will be Thanksgiving. Time is going by so fast it seems, but we can’t stop time.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Enjoy and be safe.
Have news, call me at 570-982-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Comments always welcome.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Had some strange weather for the week. Hot, cold, very windy, sunny and nice. Couldn’t tell what it would do next. Sunday was quite a warm day with temperature in the high 60’s. It was very windy the whole day and many places had power outages. Hope this next week will be much better.
I see a lot of very nice Halloween decorations going up and lots of pumpkins decorating the homes. Hopefully, no damage will be done and all stays nice for Halloween, which is coming up soon.
Got the following to share from Kathy Isett, Secretary of the Lopez Civic Association: 2026 membership dues for the Lopez Civic Association are payable now. If you are a current member, thank you. If you are not a member, please consider being one. The cost if only $1.00 per year. The Civic Association is all about the children and our community. Contact Kathy Isett at 610-413-6439.
Kathy also mentioned that the Lopez Halloween party will be on Friday, the 31st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Get your costumes ready. Come and have some fun.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Marty Whatley, 25th; KayLynn Kapler, 26th; Makayla Day, 27th and Misty Pequignot, 31st. Hope you all have a nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Marty and Dee Whatley as they celebrate on the 27th. Have a great day and many more happy years together.
I keep hearing there are more strains of different viruses going around. Hope everyone is not affected by them and all are feeling well.
I also heard that we are having a lot of those lantern flies around. They are to be killed instantly. With the warm weather we had on Saturday, the lady bugs and flies were abundant. Guess they liked the heat on the windows as they were really a lot there.
There are still events going on. Keep and eye on the Sully for something that may be of interest to you. Hopefully, the weather will still cooperate.
That Eloise who writes the Shunk news has a funny “joke of the day” every week. This last week was a really good one. Take time to read all of the correspondents columns. You’ll find some really neat things mentioned.
OK. It’s late. Almost my bedtime so guess I’d better get off. Enjoy your week, whatever your little heart desires to do. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; “snail” mail me, see me, or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Finally had some good rain on Saturday and a little on Sunday. It was really needed and hoped it helped the water situation for everyone.
We did have some warm, sunny days early in the week, with “frosty” mornings. Still some nice days to come, along with more rain. Haven’t seen any deer or turkeys lately. Even the humming birds haven’t been around. Maybe a bunny rabbit now and then.
Happy Birthday to Marie Cikovic, 19th and Aine Lee McDonald, 21st. Have a really nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Kevin and Teri Bullis as they celebrate on the 20th. Enjoy and many more.
Still enough time for any events taking place that you may be interested in. Check the Sully for their calendar of events. Carol and Connie always have a lot of events in their news columns, so check that out too. I’m sure there will be something interesting for you to do.
I see more Halloween decorations going up. All looks good. Gardens are done. Some flowers are doing well yet. Some got hit with the recent frost and turned black. The leaves are gone from most trees and the color isn’t pretty at all now.
Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent some time on Sunday at her home here. She also visited Linda Baton in Laporte and stopped to visit us while she was here.
Hope everyone is feeling well. Hopefully the up-coming cold weather will kill all the bugs and germs and we’ll all stay well. I know a friend who is suffering from shingles right now. The pain is terrible. Hope she feels better soon.
Come on people! Write your little story of what you remember about Lopez. Living here in the earlier days; living here now. Bob is waiting and wants to put them on “I Remember” section of the Lopez website. You must have some good memories. Send your thoughts to the e-mail below.
OK. Done for now. Enjoy your week. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; USPS mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will do my best to put it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time. Comments always welcome.

What another nice week we had. Little nippy early in the morning, but did warm up nicely by afternoon, The weekend was perfect for any kind of activities that were going on around the County. Let’s hope this week will be as nice. I do see rain in the forecast, but we need rain desperately.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent an enjoyable weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.
I see lots of pumpkins around being used for decorations. There are also some nice decorations for you to check out. I’m sure more will be decorating as Halloween gets closer. After Halloween, those pumpkins will make a lot of good pies.
Happy Birthday wishes to Mike Bednar, 13th; Bob Burke, 14th; and Ken Smith, 17th. Have a nice, sunny day,
Happy Anniversary to Ted and Fay Puzo as they celebrate on the 14th. Have a super day,
I think there are still events that will be going on around the County. Keep an eye on the Sully for something you may be interested in. The leaves are about gone for color. Was kind of disappointing this year. They starting falling off the trees early this year. Hopefully, next year, we will get a better, colorful display. Will have to talk to Mother Nature about that.
Hope you all are feeling well and not bothered with an illness. I heard there is another strain of the Covid virus. Just another reason to come up with another shot. Hopefully, it will stay away.
Guess that’s about it. Enjoy your week, whatever you might choose to do. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; snail mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you if I receive it before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Have had some pretty cool mornings lately. Three days in a row with low 40’s. Glad the sun warms things up during the day. The weekend was perfect for anything going on around the County. Nice sun, warm temperatures and just a great day. Looks like the week may be the same so far. But, it can change daily. Take what we can for now. It gets cold and that “white stuff” will be here before long.
Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Kapler, 1st; Joe Fanning and Kyleigh McDonald, 2nd; Maggie Brumwell, 5th; Gwen Hontz and Dylon Pequignot, 7th; Leah Risser and Ryan Weisbrod, 8th. Hope you all have a great day.
Happy Anniversary to Team Dad and Team Mom as they celebrate on the 1st. Enjoy your day.
Two pieces of paper towels make an excellent dust cloth. Wet hands and dry on the two sections. Apply a little furniture polish on one towel and polish. Buff with the other one. Then discard No dirty cloths lying around.
Was nice to see Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, while spending the weekend with his Dad, Bob, Jr. Always a nice time while he is here.
There will still be events going on around the County, so keep an eye on the Sully for things you may be interested in. I see “lots” of pumpkins available to do so many things with. Halloween decorations are starting to appear. Hardly seems possible that October is here already. Time is marching on.
That’s about it. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Can’t beat this nice weather we’ve been having, but we do need rain desperately. Some reports say we may get rain during the week, but we’ll have to wait and see. We’ve had some really cool mornings and evenings, but during the day it warmed up nicely. The leaves are falling off the trees so doesn’t look like a lot of nice color this year. It can change, but doesn’t seem likely. Well, we just take what Mother Nature sends us. We can be thankful that it’s not as bad as those that are getting the bad storms and fires. Saw quite a few turkeys in the Church yard. There were 4 nice buck that walked through the yard to the cemetery on Thursday and then one doe, all alone, on Friday. They hadn’t been around for some time, so was nice to see. I’m sure the hunters will keep an eye on them for when hunting season comes up.
Deepest sympathy to the Burke family on the passing of Lisa recently. Great lady and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
When baking anything that has raisins in it and you don’t want them to sink to the bottom…put the raisins in the top of your flour sifter before adding the flour to the mixture. Then put the flour coated raisins in your batter and they will not sink to the bottom during baking. (I’m going to try this with chocolate chips as they always sink to the bottom when I make chocolate zucchini bread.)
I hear there is another Covid strain going around and hope no one is affected by it. Hope you’re all feeling well and those that are a “little under the weather”, I hope you get well very soon.
Happy Birthday wishes to Tom Finan, 25th; and Ted Beaver, 27th. Hope you both have a nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Dustin and Sam Burke as they celebrate on the 28th. Congratulations and enjoy your day.
There are still some events going on around the County you may be interested in. Check the Sully for those things that might “spark your interest”.
It seems there is always something going on in Sullivan County.
I guess I’ll close for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans might be. If you have news you’d like me to report, give me a call at 570-928-9238; USPS me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading, and the comments. I’ll be here next time.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Good morning all!! Hope you are enjoying this nice weather. We’ve had some really warm days that started out with a tad of frost a couple of times. Did warm up really well during the day. We really, really do need rain. Everything is so dry and dying. The grass is brown and brittle, the wells are pretty low too. We need a slow, steady rain to help things along. Hummers are still around. Not too many rabbits now. I think the stray cat has gotten them We had a few baby bunnies and it was cute to see them playing We have a small ground hog that visits once in a while. No bear here, so far, so we’ve been lucky. I think they enjoy being up Tim Brown’s. He’s gotten some great pictures on his trail cam.
Happy Birthday to Roland Dayton, 21st; Bob Day and Roseleigh Nitcznski, both on the 23rd. Hope you all have a nice day.
Use a large green pepper as a contain for dip. Cut off the top and take out the ribs and seeds. When empty of dip, you can eat the pepper. Good idea.
Still time to get out and enjoy events going on around the County. Keep an eye on the Sully to see what’s happening that you may be interested in. Hopefully, we will get some nice color later for a good looking Fall. Seems “iffy” as a lot of the trees have already lost their leaves, but we can still hope.
Don’t forget that school has started so be extra careful when driving and you see the kids waiting for the bus. Slow down and keep everyone safe.
I guess that’s it for this time. Enjoy your week, get out and get some sunshine. Before we know it, cold weather and that “icky” stuff will be here. If you have news you’d like me to report, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. We did have some rain Friday and Saturday, with cool temperatures. Sunday was a really nice day with sun, even though the wind was brisk. Supposed to be nice for the week. We do need rain, but we only get a little at a time. Need a nice, steady rain for a couple of days to fill the creeks, wells, etc.
Saw some deer across the street in the field. Haven’t seen any for a while so it was nice to finally see them. “Hummers” are still busy at the feeders. With cooler weather on the way, they will be leaving soon. The bear have been out and about. Lots of nice pictures in the Sully of some. Berries are sporadic this year. There will be some, then a few more, but nothing to speak of. Gardens are slow but coming along.
Happy Birthday to Alexia Vermiere, 13th; JoAnn McDonald, 19th. Hope you both have a great day.
Happy Anniversary to Scott and Susan Aharonian as they celebrate on the 14th. Congratulations and have a super day.
Things are still happening around the County so check the Sully to see what, where and when. Connie, Carol and Eloise always have lots of things listed in their columns, so check it out.
Did you know fitted sheets will go on the mattress much easier if you fit diagonally, corners first. Try it and see.
When cooking rice, add a spoonful of vinegar or lemon juice. Rice will be light, fluffy and separated.
Bob is still waiting for your “I Remember” stories for the Lopez website.
That’s the news for now. Enjoy your week; I’m sure you have plenty of things planned. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me (USPS); see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will do my best to get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hope you all had a very nice Labor Day Holiday. Early mornings started out a little chilly, with low 30’s and frost. It did warm up nicely for the day.
Was a great weekend for all who did whatever they did. Lots of festivities going on that anyone could attend and have a good time. Looks like rain maybe Wednesday and Thursday, but very nice the other days. We’ll see if that holds up.
John and Brittany Ruby, Malboro, MA, had an awesome Labor Day holiday with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. They enjoyed a lot of quad riding, touring, just “chillin” and making a lot of new friends. She is Nina’s “favorite” cousin. They were especially impressed with Ellis Cemetery and seeing the Revolutionary War veterans buried there. They enjoyed lunch at F&N Thunderbird. They also attended the “Monga” party held in Lopez. Just an all around great time. First time here but definitely will be back again soon.
Happy Belated birthday 3rd to Willow Nitcznski who celebrated on August 28th with a fun party with family and friends.
Happy Anniversary to Les and Kathy Isett whose anniversary is on the 10th of September. Congratulations and have a great day.
Happy Birthday to Emelia Williams, 6th; Miles Baton 8th; and Emerson Brumwell, 10th. Have a fun day.
Did you know you can use a ricer of food mill for egg yolks when making lots of deviled eggs. (I did not know this and would be useful when I’m making three dozen eggs at a time.)
To determine when hard boiled eggs are done, lift one from the water with a spoon. If it dries quickly, they are done. Put them in cold water. Peel, starting from the large end. (Interesting.)
Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, enjoyed the Labor Day holiday with his Dad, Bob, Jr. Also visited with us and with Uncle “B” and Nina Weslowski. Good time for all and weather was great.
There are still activities coming up in the days ahead so keep an eye on the Sully and see what you may be interested in.
That’s my news for now. Have a good week; get out and enjoy the sunshine. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Still looking for “I Remember” stories for the Lopez website.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Pretty foggy early Monday morning as I type my news. Sun is trying to burn the fog off, and looks like it will be a nice day. Had some rain on Thursday and again on Sunday. Helped the dry weather we’ve been having. Looks like more may be coming during the week. Hope we will have some Indian summer eventually.
Hardly seems possible that the month of August is almost over. The S. C. Fair is this week until Labor Day. Kids have already started school, so be watchful for kids and buses that will be going around.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent some time at their home here. Weather was really nice this time for them.
Bob and I spent a few days in Richmondville, NY, to attend my family reunion. Family members came from PA, MI, FL, and NY. Was a nice time while we were there. On Saturday, we attended a reunion with Bob’s sister, Linda, and her family, held at Lake Jean. Was a perfect day and enjoyable time. We even got to play some Bingo.
Happy Birthday to Kristin (McDonald) Mensch on September 5th. Hope you have a nice day,
Happy Anniversary to Chase and Jodi Brumwell as they celebrate on the 2nd. Have a great day and many more.
When you bake a cake and want it to stay fresh longer, cut the cake in half and cut the first slices from the center of the cake. Then, push the two halves together and the cake doesn’t get dry on the cut sides.
Keep an eye on the Sully and FB for things going on around the County. Always some nice things to do and see. The SC Fair is one of the big things right now. Lots of vendors, good food, good entertainment, etc. etc.
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; snail mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Have a great week! (The fog burned off before I got my news done.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Hope you all had an enjoyable week. We did have some 80+ days that were very humid. We also did have some rain on Saturday and Sunday, but didn’t amount to much. The weekend was just about perfect for those attending gatherings. We really need the rain for the gardens, lawns and to fill the wells. Everyone is trying to conserve water the best they can. More rain may be on the way during the week, but we’ll see what Mother Nature has in store for us. The hummers are liking the rain. They sit at the feeder and just let the rain fall over them. Maybe that’s their bath. Cute watching the little buggers.
Looks like school will start on the 21st. Good luck and have fun to all the kids going this year. Drivers….please watch out for the kids and the buses during that time.
Sullivan County Fair will be coming up at the end of the month. Check the Sully and FB for all the information on that. Always something for everyone and the food is always so good. Also check for any other happenings going on around the County that may be of interest to you.
Happy Birthday to Izzy Chapman, 21st; and Gerald Maloney, 30th. Have a nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke on the 26th. Congratulations and have a great day!.
Geez. Labor Day is coming up so fast. The month of August went by quickly.
Bob and I attended our Che-Hanna Mineral Club picnic on Sunday, held at Kirby Park in Nichols, NY. Was a beautiful day; the rain held off. From New Albany to Lopez we had the rain, not a lot, but did cool off just a tad. Was a nice picnic, good food, fun activities and visiting.
Still looking for “I Remember” stories to put on the Lopez website. Anything you remember growing up in Lopez, going to school and Church, activities, etc., etc., etc. Doesn’t have to be long, or it can be, but something of interest you’d like to share. Send your story to lopezpa.com and Bob will add it to the website. Check the site for some that have been on there. Pretty interesting.
Did you know if you cook carrots and potatoes together and then mash them, they have a slight orange color and produce an entirely new flavor. (That sounds pretty good. May try that myself.)
When boiling potatoes, put a little cooking oil in the water to eliminate the sticky ring at the top of the pan. Will not affect the taste of the potatoes. ( Now, that’s a good one. I have that ring every time.) I have a Heloise’s Housekeeping Hints book from 1962. Has many good hints so will be adding a couple in my news each week. If you have a favorite hint you’d like to share, just let me know at the info here at the bottom of my news. Will gladly add it for you.
Guess that’s it for now. Enjoy your week. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
We had some really nice weather during the last week. Was perfect for all the activities that were going on over the weekend. Lots of sunshine and warmth for all. Hope you were able to find something of interest for you. I did hear we may get some rain on Wednesday for a few days, but it’s probably needed. Gardens are doing well. Tomatoes are a little slow, but they’ll get there. The “hummers” are enjoying the feeders and really active.
Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here. On Saturday she enjoyed her class picnic, held at Connells Dam. On Sunday visiting her was her cousin, Lola and Mike Mattie, Forty Fort. Lola and Mike also stopped here to visit her brother, Bob and I.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.
Happy Birthday to Dustin Burke, 15th; Kevin Pequignot, 16th; TJ Lowden and Grayson Schiele, 17th. Hope you all have a perfect day.
Happy Anniversary to Bill and Bonnie Killian as they celebrate on the 16th. Congratulations and many more happy years.
If you have tired feet, rub some Vicks VapoRub on your heels and arches and put socks on. Should help.
Check the Sully and FB for events coming up in the area. Always something during these summer months to spark your interest to see or even take part in.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent some time at their home here. Perfect weather to get a lot of things done around the house.
Guess that’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Get out and enjoy the fresh air before the rain comes.
Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed the splendid weekend we were given to have such nice weather for activities going on around the County.
Was a great day for Lopez Old Home Day. Thanks to all who made it the success it was again this year.
Sunday was just as nice and I hear we are to have a few days of “rain free” time. That suits me. I see the gardens are doing really well and folks will have product for freezing for the winter, as well as some for eating now.
Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here. Visiting on Saturday was Jennifer Pequignot, her fiance, Justin Cowles, and her son, Alek Laird. They all enjoyed Old Home Day. On Sunday George and Vicke Homza stopped by to visit. They had attended the annual Homza reunion that was held on Saturday at Connell’s Dam. Was a nice day for all who were able to make it.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent some time at their home here. Looks like nice weather for them.
Tent City was really populated for the week and weekend with lots of adults and kids. They come every year and really like Old Home Day. Every year the group gets bigger. They had a nice fireworks display one evening during the week.
Happy Birthday to Kathy Lebo, 9th; Randy Lebo, 10th, Erica Kapler, 11th; Al Kapler, 12th; Chase Brumwell, 12th; and Linda Beaver, 13th. Have a nice day.
Happy Belated birthday to Tessa Chapman as she celebrated on the 27th. Hope you had a fun day.
With the nice weather coming, be sure to keep an eye on FB and the Sully to see what you may be interested that will be going on around the County.
Take a look at the Lopez website at lopezpa.com. Has some interesting things to read about there. I know we’ve gotten a lot of comments on how much they enjoy the site. At OLD HOME DAY some folks said they would write some stories for I REMEMBER LOPEZ page and some said they would find some pics for the LOPEZ VETS page. Quite a few folks learned a lot about the Lopez web site and a lot about Lopez history. It was an interesting day. If you’d like something on that site, please let Bob know and he’ll be glad to add whatever you have. Bob also sends thanks to Jodi for use of the pavilion.
That’s it. Enjoy your week; should be really good, weather wise. If you’d like to have your news in, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Had some pretty nice weather during the last week. Did have a couple of short thunder storms on Sunday that didn’t amount to much. Supposed to be rain for a few days this week, but the weekend looks good. We can only hope Mother Nature will be a little kind to us. I see the gardens are producing well and the flowers are looking good too. Seems that squash are doing well. I’ve made some zucchini bread and squash casserole. Haven’t seen many deer, but the “hummers” are out in full force and enjoying the feeder. A few bunny rabbits are playing in the yard.
Don’t forget, Saturday is Old Home Day from Noon to 10 p.m. Lots of things to do. Meet old friends, make new friends. Hope to see you there and that the weather will be just great for another successful year.
Happy Birthday to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherill Dayton, both on the 4th. Hope you have a nice day.
Special birthday wishes to Suzanne Heitler, Timberville, VA, on August 5th from Scott, Leni and Kessler. She is Leni’s Mom and visits Lopez when she can. She loves reading the Sully. Have a great day.
Happy Anniversary to John and Mary Rajkiewicz as they celebrate on the 3rd. Have a wonderful day,
Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for activities that will be going on around the County. Something may “spark” you interest. Connie and Carol always have lots of things in their columns, so take a look. Face Book has lots of listings of things to do. And, hope to see you at Lopez Old Home Day.
That’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans may be. Might need an umbrella some days when going out and about.

Had some nice weather; had some rain; had some humidity. Hopefully better weather for the week, from what I’ve been seeing on the map.
The “hummers” are still out and about. Haven’t seen many deer or turkey in the field, but guess they are around some place. Haven’t seen a bear at all, but I know they are around getting into things they shouldn’t. We do have some bunny rabbits that are fun to watch.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, got to spent quite some time at their home here. When they first got here, we were having a storm and said they had to sit in the truck for 20 minutes until it let up enough to get in to the house.
Old Home Day is just around the corner. Check FB for all the details of what’s going to be happening on Saturday, August 2nd from Noon until 10 p.m. Hope to see you there.
Happy Birthday wishes to Billy Stasiak, 23rd; Jan Marie Manuel, 25th; Carole Kilgus, 28th; Matt Dayton, Jr., 29th; and Casey Bonardi, 30th. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
Looks like the gardens and flowers are doing well. Guess the rain helped them along. Seems the gardens are producing well. There will be canning and freezing done for the colder weather, I’m sure.
Keep an eye on the Sully and FB for activities that will be going on around the County. I’m sure there will be something of interest for you.
Did you know Listerine can be used as a great itch relief on bug bites and even poison ivy? Dab some on a cotton ball and apply to the itchy area.
Think that’s it. Enjoy your week. Should be nice for at least four days, from what the map shows. I know it can change, but hope not. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a good week and enjoyed whatever you did. Didn’t turn out too bad. Thought we were going to get a storm on Thursday, but passed us by. We were in Sayre and they got hammered with wind and torrential rain for about half an hour. Never saw it rain that hard that you couldn’t see across the road. By the time we got ready to leave, you wouldn’t know it had rained. The sun was out, got warm and dried everything up in no time. Never can tell where Mother Nature is and what she will do. The weekend turned out pretty nice. We did have quite a storm late Sunday with lots of thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Now, I hear storms again for most of the week, but that can change in the blink of an eye.
I have news to share from Jodi Brumwell, President of the Civic Association: “It’s that time of year again! Saturday, August 2nd, starting at Noon, come out and have a great time at Lopez Old Home Day! Delicious food, cold beverages, kid’s games, bounce house, bingo, fireworks, DJ, raffle baskets, 50/50, and so much more. Volunteers are really needed. Contact Maggie Brumwell at 484-735-0671 or Jodi Brumwell at 570-971-5002 if you can help. Hope to see you there.”
Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, July 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.
Happy Birthday wishes to Adam Aharonian, 18th; Evalyn Lansberry and Sister Ella Mae McDonald, 20th; and Matt Beaver, 21st. Have a nice day.
Gerry Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. Wife, Paula, is spending some time in Boston, MA, helping to care for her Mom (Nan), who is 102 year young. She’s doing quite well for her age.
If you have a toothache and cannot get to the dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for 10 minutes several times during the day. The pain will lessen greatly.
Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up in Sullivan County. Something may be of interest to you. Read the other news columns for reports of things happening. I know you will find something to really like.
Keep an eye to the sky as reports are for lots of rain during the week. Sure wish Mother Nature would take a break and give us nicer days for a long period of time. Enjoy your week, whatever you may do. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your Holiday, whatever you did. Saturday and Sunday were perfect for outdoor cookouts, getting in the pool to cool off, or going to check out the various fireworks displays around the County. We did have one day of rain that didn’t last too long. Our hearts go out to Texas and other states that have been having such bad weather. The death toll of children, and adults, has risen from those at the camp in TX. Please keep them in your prayers.
The gardens seem to be coming along. Flowers are looking nice. Humming birds are playing at the feeders. Saw a couple deer in the field. All is good.
From what I’ve seen on Face Book, the bear sure are around. Some pretty big ones and with little ones too. Be aware of your surroundings. You never know when they will show up.
Tent City had quite a few there over the Holiday and had some really nice fireworks again this year. I also saw some from the front room window from up Lilac Lane or somewhere in that area. They were nice too. So much color.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the long weekend with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. They all enjoyed camping.
Happy Birthday to Samantha Burke, 10th; Dan Stasiak, 11th; Averie Bahr, 13th; and David Black, 14th. Have a fantastic day.
Happy Anniversary to David and Lavonne Black who celebrate on David’s birthday, the 14th. Have many more.
Nicer weather on the way, so lots to see and do in Sullivan County. Check the Sully, Face Book and Connie Hatch to find out all the particulars. There’s sure to be something of interest for you.
Did you know Listerine can be used as a great itch relief on bug bites and poison ivy? Dab some on a cotton swab and apply to itchy areas.
Ticks are especially bad this year so be careful when out, especially in higher grass and around bushes. Sure don’t need Lyme disease.
My son and grandson went looking for berries and said the ticks were terrible. Didn’t find any berries. Said they are green yet. They had ticks on them when they came home but got them all off before they embedded themselves in their skin.
I think that’s about it. Enjoy your week. Rain may be on the way again, but higher temperatures. I know it’s allergy season, but hope you’re not bothered too much. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all had a great week, despite the rain showers. A couple days were very hot and humid. Saturday evening we had a passing thunder storm with lots of rain, thunder and lightning. Didn’t last long, but enough to wet everything down. There were a few really loud “booms”. We can be glad it wasn’t snow. Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day. Looks like the week may be “iffy” some days, but the holiday weekend looks good. We can hope it stays that way. Lawns were finally able to be mowed after a spell of rainy weather. Be nice if it would stay warm and sunny.
Congratulations to these students who made the fourth period honor roll: Distinguished Honors – Reese Baton, Miles Baton, Makayla Day, Kyleigh McDonald, Ruby Malkames, and Kaeleigh McDonald. Those on honor roll are Izabella Capriotti and Bruno Day.
Hope you all have a safe Fourth of July Holiday, whatever your plans may be. Be safe. Looks like the weather may be in our favor, but later in the week will tell for sure.
Happy Birthday, right on July 4th is Brandan McCobin; Brayson Siddle, 5th; Bill Stasiak and Bryson Charles, 6th; and Patty Johnson, 9th. Have a great day.
Happy Anniversary to Mike and Heather McDonald and Kristin (McDonald) and Jeffery Mensch as they all celebrate on the 7th. Have a great day.
Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up you may be interested in. Yard sales, flea markets, etc. are pretty much every weekend now with the warm weather.
Did you know you can use Listerine as a deodorant? Sounds strange but it was tested and works. Dab some on a cotton ball and gently rub it on your arm pits. Great for fighting odor. If you run out of deodorant, give it a try.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a whole week at their home here. In between the rain, I think they got a lot of yard work done.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire. Had an enjoyable time while they were here.
Remember — watch out for kids, as well as adults, who may be in the roads in town. Slow down and everyone will be safe. What’s the big hurry.
Guess that’s about it. Enjoy your week, whatever you may do. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend with the better weather. Friday we did have a short thunder storm. Saturday and Sunday were hot and humid with a “tad” of rain. I hear the week is to be quite warm, with a shower or two. The more severe storms that were predicted passed us.
Congratulations to Goran and Leslie Lazarevic. They were at Kalahari resort and received an award from the State wide adoption network for permanency family of the year as they adopted Sean this year. They stood with the Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Pennsylvania Health and Human Services from Harrisburg. She gave a short speech and “kudos” to Lopez. Well deserved award. Great parents and great place to live. Welcome, Sean.
From Kathy Isett, Secretary of the Lopez Civic Association: “The Civic Association would like to than Steve, of Delta T HVAC, for his generous donation of a new water heater for the Pavilion. It is greatly appreciated.”
The baby bunnies are “cavorting” and so much fun to watch as they get around. I think some of the baby birds have left as we don’t hear any “chirping” from the nests. The humming birds are out and about. Like watching them at the feeder and how one is always trying to be the “boss”. Haven’t see a bear here but I know they’ve been “calling” at other places in town.
Keep an eye on the Sully and FB for up-coming events you may be interested in. You can also read the other news columns. They seem to know first hand of activities going on. They know when, where, and what time events are being held. Help support the local businesses. There are yard sales, flea markets, little stands open with ice cream and “treats”. It all helps them. You can always check Sam’s Lopez weather to see what you missed the week before. Lol.
I guess that’s it for now. Enjoy your hot, humid week. There may be a storm or two, but that seems natural. I think some of the pools are open so they can enjoy the hot weather. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.
JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
Geez. I thought we were to get some nice weather. What do we get? Rain and more rain. One nice day, three days of rain. Maybe it will get nicer during the week, but I have my doubts. We need to send Mother Nature to the doctor to get some better meds. It is what it is, and we can be glad we aren’t getting terrific storms, like some places. So, hope you all enjoyed your weekend, despite the “not so nice weather”. Better days are coming. Count on it! Hope so. Can’t even get in the pool yet. A little too cool. The bunnies and birds and deer are liking the weather. Once the lawn is mowed, the birds are all over looking for bugs and worms. Just have to watch out for ticks. I keep hearing they are bad this year.
Joyce Hails, from Hails Family Farm, tells me their ice cream shoppe is open from 12-8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Produce stand is open daily. (Stop up and check them out. They are located just outside Lopez on Route 487.)
Got the following from Maggie Brumwell, Civic Association: It’s about that time folks!! Lopez Old Home Day is Saturday, August 2nd, from Noon to 10 p.m. We are going to need many volunteers, donations for raffle baskets, donations for prizes for kids and lots of hungry people. Lopez Civic Association will be discussing this topic and more at our next meeting. If you would like to join us, it’s Wednesday, June 25th at 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Also, if you are a Lopez resident, please consider become a member. If you are not a Lopez resident, please consider becoming an associate member. Hope to see you all there. NOTE: The meeting date has changed from the 18th to 25th for this month.
Happy Anniversary to Bob and Lisa Burke as they celebrate on the 19th. Congratulations.
Happy Birthday to Cindy Stavisky, 23rd; and Ethan Leo Stavisky, 28th. Hope you both have a fun, exciting day.
Did you know that June 19th is Juneteenth day and there will be no mail, no Court House and no bank. Wonders will never cease. Wonder what will be coming up next.
For bug bites relief, dab a small amount of Vicks VapoRub on the bites and rub it in.
Was nice to see Joe Caccia, Elmira, NY, and his son, Joe, Jr. from IL when they stopped to visit us on their way through Lopez.
Don’t forget that school is out and be watchful for kids. Don’t be in such a hurry to get some place. Leave a little earlier. Kids are kids and sometimes are where you have to watch out for them. Please slow down and drive safely when going through Lopez. I will be here next week.
JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
As I sit and type my news Sunday evening, it is raining…..again. Was pretty nice during the day. Saturday we had some heavy rain. Makes it hard for the farmers and those who want to plant a garden and flower bed. Too much rain; stuff rots in the ground. BUT…..warmer weather is on the way. All my reports say rain a couple days and then quite a few days of hot weather. The wind is still with us. I guess we should be thankful. It could be worse with flooding or tornadoes that others have been getting.
Happy Birthday to Sandy Kriel and Nina Weslowski, on the 14th. Hope you both have a great day!
School is out. Please watch out for kids on the streets in Lopez. There are quite a few and they like to play in the road, walk or ride bikes. You don’t have to be a speed demon going through town. You gotta get some place, leave a little earlier. Let them enjoy their summer.
The humming birds, other birds and baby bunnies are out and about. We did see a couple deer the other day, but not like usual.
Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for events coming up. Something may interest you.
For an early birthday present for Nina Weslowski, she and Brian McGuire went to an Avril Lavigne concert in Hershey Saturday evening. Had an awesome time. Before the concert, they went to Hershey Gardens and Butterfly Atrium and saw many, many beautiful butterflies that landed on her for quite some time. On Sunday, on their way home, they stopped at a reptile expo to see what all was there. A really nice weekend.
Apply a small dab of Vicks VapoRub to your temples to relieve a headache.
Don’t have a whole lot of news. Haven’t been out much. Just had cataract eye surgery on both eyes, so have been staying close to home so they heal properly. Never knew how much I rub my eyes until they told me, “no fingers in the eyes or rubbing them”. It’s hard but I’m trying my best.
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy your week. May need the umbrella and boots for a day or two. Then, it’s shorts and t-shirts. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Take care. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Can’t get used to this colder, windy, rainy weather. Seems Mother Nature just doesn’t know what to do next. We have constant wind and we had some really heavy rain on Saturday evening. Sunday turned out really nice with lots of sunshine and not so much wind. Then, it rained for a while. Started June off with a bang with the rain and early Monday morning with frost. Last I heard, it’s to be in the high 70’s, low 80’s for the week. Sounds good to me. Hard to mow lawn or do any garden work with it so wet and “squishy”. Hopefully, better weather is on the way.
Happy Birthday to Lydia Stasiak, 5th; Lynn Malkemes, 8th; and Matt Dayton, 10. Hope you all have a really nice day.
Richie Reggerio and his friend came in from DE to spend the weekend at the Charnik/Fanning home. Weather wasn’t the best, but they had a nice time while they were here.
Congratulations to all the graduates. Those from Lopez included Bruno Day, Adriana Capriotti, Angel Clark and Nathan Christopher. Good luck in your future endeavors, whatever you choose to do.
Keep a check on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events. You may be interested in something you see. There’s always something going on in Sullivan County for your pleasure.
Hope everyone is feeling well. There are so many “new” viruses going around, I hope they miss all of you. Seems like we should live in a bubble to avoid them.
After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria. Can also be used in the bathroom for “misses”. Put some in a spray bottle and spray around the toilet. Will take the smell away and kill any bacteria.
Guess that’s it. Enjoy your week and hope for lots of sunshine. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

FROST on Memorial Day! Nice bright sunshine, but a cold morning. Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday. We had some rainy, windy weather that made it tough for everyone, whether camping, doing yard work or working in the garden. Sure hope we’re going to get some nicer weather now. We could be having really bad weather, but we’re lucky. The tornadoes that are going through those States are really doing a lot of damage and taking lives along with it. So, we should count our blessings. Hope you got to attend one, two, or maybe all of the Memorial Day parades throughout the County to honor those who fought so we have the freedoms that we have today.
Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, spent Friday to Tuesday with his Dad, Bob, Jr. and visited his Uncle B and Nina Weslowski and us, his Gramma and Grandpa. Weather wasn’t the best, but still and enjoyable time. We all enjoyed a cook out on Monday.
Happy Birthday to Nick DeSanto, 29th and Bruno Day, 31st. Have a nice day.
Happy Anniversary to Jack and Joyce Walsh as they celebrate on 29th. Enjoy your day.
Keep an eye on the Sully for events that may be coming up in the County that you might be interested in.
Tent City had some campers down there for the Holiday. Enjoyed the fireworks displays on Saturday and Sunday evening.
Richie Ruggerio and his finance spent a few days at the Fanning home over the Memorial Day holiday. Sure could have been better weather.
That’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Hope for warm, sunny weather. May need a goat or two to get the lawns taken care of.
Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Are ya likin’ this weather? It’s crazy some days and some days pretty good. Check out Sam’s weather report elsewhere in the paper. She does a good job keeping track of everything. Hopefully some nicer weather is on the way.
Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent some time at their home here. Weather wasn’t the best for outside work, so they got some inside work done.
Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nine Weslowski and Brian McGuire.
Happy Birthday to Janet Weidner, 22nd; Susan Aharonian, 24th and Tanya (Stasiak) Nitcznski, 25th. Hope you all have a great day!
Happy Anniversary to Joe and Diane Fanning as they celebrate on the 28th. Have an enjoyable day.
Memorial Day will be on Monday, the 26th. Parade and service will be held in Lopez Park at 10 a.m. Speaker this year will be Barbara Bell. Placing the wreath at the monument will be Samantha Burke. Hope to see you there. Check the Sully for other parades and speakers in the County. After the harsh winter we had with so much wind, the cemeteries sure look nice with all the fresh, new flags. Most flags were about torn to shreds. The new flags sure brightened things up, along with the flowers that folks have placed on the graves.
Here’s a good hint. The fresh smell of Listerine is a turn-off for fleas! Fill half a spray bottle with water and half with Listerine. Spray your dog with the entire bottle. Then, bathe him/her as usual and it’s Goodbye fleas. Hope this works. I don’t have a dog, so can’t try it. Didn’t say if it works for cats too, but could try it and see what happens.
Keep an eye on social media to find out what’s coming up around the County that you may be interested in.
Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
I think that’s all I have for this time. If you have any kind of hint you’d like in my column, please let me know and I will gladly put it in for others to see.
Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Hope you all enjoyed your Mother’s Day. Weather was just about perfect after only 33 degrees early in the morning. The wind should die down and let it stay warm. Got pretty chilly in the late afternoon. I hear we are to get some nicer weather for a few days, which will feel good. Friday was a miserable day with rain all day long and gusty winds. Hopefully, it’s going to be nice days for going on long walks to enjoy the sun and breeze. We can hope so anyway.
Next Civic meeting will be on the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion. Thanks to those who helped last Sunday with the clean up in the parks and at the Pavilion. Appreciated. Don’t know names, so thank you to whoever it was.
Happy Birthday to Cory McDonald and Deacon Burke, 15th; Ariella Siddle; 18th; and Marian Hubiak, 19th. Have a fun filled day.
Happy Anniversary to Tim and Bobbi Jo Brown as they celebrate on the 21st. Enjoy and many more.
Hope there were some lucky turkey hunters out there. I didn’t see any up this way. Haven’t even see turkeys in the yard across the street. Haven’t seen deer.
We do have humming birds now. Put the feeder out and they found it right away. I think we also have baby blue birds in the nesting box that our son, JR, made for us. And, the bear are really making their rounds and causing quite a bit of damage wherever they go.
Did you know that soaking your hands in Epsom Salts is healthy? It’s a great way to soothe rough skin, calm aching finger joints, remove nail polish and remove dirt from under your nails. Add 1/4 cup of Epsom salts to a large bowl of warm water. Soak hands for 5-10 minutes.
Lots of places now are getting all their gardening needs out for sale. All kinds of plants, bushes, trees, vegetables. You name it, they got it. I see some gardens are tilled and ready to be planted, probably after Memorial Day, IF the frost stays away.
Hope everyone is feeling pretty good and not bothered with all kinds of “bugs” that are going around. Ticks are also out in numbers, so make sure to check your clothes and body, and your pets for those pesky things. Lyme disease is certainly no fun.
There will be plenty of things going on in the coming months, so keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book to see what may interest you. Support the local businesses. It’s a good thing to do.
Well, folks, that’s it for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

As I sit here typing my news “early” Monday morning, the sun is rising and it’s a “cool” 27 degrees with a frost. But, it’s gonna be a nice day from reports I saw. We had some crazy weather the past few days. Saturday was rainy; Sunday was very windy and sunny. The wind kept up all day long with gusts up to 35 mph. I hear rain is on the way for a few days during the week. It seems that Mother Nature does not want to cooperate. I do see the bluebirds are back. We’ve been watching one in our birdhouse for a couple days. Someone mentioned that the humming birds are coming back earlier and have reports that they have been seen. With this colder weather, they may turn around and wait for a while. I see some are getting their gardens and flower beds tilled and ready for the up-coming nicer weather. Hopefully it will get warm to finally start planting. I hear the bear are making their way around town, so watch out for them.
FLASH — Meet at the Pavilion on Sunday, the 4th, at 1 p.m. for a work bee inside and outside to get ready for the summer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Questions…..call Jodi at 971-5002 or Kathy at 610-413-6439.
Birthday wishes to Kyler and Paige Burke, May 1st; JoAnn Day, 2nd; Ken Pochatko, 6th; and Ted Lowden, 7th. Hope you all have a sunny day.
Next Civic meeting will be on Wednesday, the 21st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting. Should be getting nice by then.
Dab some Vicks Vaporub on your ankles, wrists and neck for a bug repellent. It’s about that time of year when the little buggers will start bothering.
Keep and eye on the Sully and Face Book. I see there are many things coming up and you may be interested in something. Greenhouses are opening for your plants and vegetables; places are offering a variety of good food and ice cream. There are fund raisers and benefits also in the works. Lots to see and do in Sullivan County.
That’s all for now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading. Comments always welcome.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
We had some warmer weather for a few days, after cool morning starts. On Friday it hit 83 degrees, which was nice. Need more of them. On Saturday there was a pretty good rain storm with lots of wind. I did see it is to warm up during the week, but still have rain off and on.
Hope you all had a very Happy Easter and the bunny was good to you. Was a nice, sunny day, but a little cool wind until later in the afternoon,
Happy Birthday to Leni Sonon, 24th; Katherine Kapler, 25th; Mickie Mowery, 26th and David Spinosa, 28th. Hope you all have a great day.
Tyler McGuire, Liverpool, NY, enjoyed a few days over Easter with his Dad, Bob, Jr. He also visited his Uncle “B” and Nina Weslowski and his Grampa and Gramma. Was nice to have him home. Good time for all.
On the sunny, hot days that will be coming up and you’re bothered with a sunburn, you can take an Epsom Salts bath to soothe the skin. Mix 1 cup of salts in warm bath water. Mix to combine and soak in the bath for 10-15 minutes.
There’s always a lot going on in Sullivan County. Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for things that may be of interest to you. Hopefully, the weather will start to be a little more “likeable” to be out and about. Will be soon time to think of gardens, if the frost would stay away. Last I heard, folks usually don’t plant until after Memorial Day. Sometimes that’s “iffy” too. I see some of the ice cream stands are open or will be opening soon.
Don’t have much to report, so guess that’s it. Enjoy your week. Stay cool. Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; USPS mail; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

How about this weather. TWELVE degrees last Wednesday; a couple days in the 20’s; lots of cold, windy conditions. I hope Spring is on the way. We need some warm, sunny days; the wind is getting tiresome. I did hear that Monday, the 14th, is to be the nicest day of the week. We can only hope. Gardens will be late getting planted this year. With the frosts, the buds and flowers will be frozen. The bear are really making their appearance now, so watch your feeders. They like to demolish them and eat the seeds. I saw some pictures on FB of some pretty big guys. One here on Main Street was a big guy, just ambling down the driveway and into the field.
Happy Birthday to Pat Burd and Carole (Fedorchak) Underwood, both on the 17th; Holly Sperry, 20th. Have a nice day.
I hope you all have a very Blessed Easter with family and friends.
Instead of whittling a candle at the base to make it fit in the candle holder, hold the end in a cup of very hot water for a few minutes to soften the wax. Then gently and firmly press it into the holder.
Thank you to Brian, Nina, Bob, Jr.,and Marcia for my birthday dinner on Saturday at Bob, Jr’s house. Was a fun time and really good food. Another year gone by. Where does the time go.
Keep an eye on the Sully and Face Book for up-coming events. Check out some of the other news columns also. They have a lot of listings and you may find something of interest for you. With the warmer weather coming, the yard sales and flea markets will be popping up all over.
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy your week, even if you need your heavy coat and hat. It will warm up, trust me. Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Is it April or January? Sure has been cold, windy and rainy so we don’t know for sure. Now, I hear snow, maybe, on Tuesday. It should not last too long, even we get any. The birds are also wondering what’s going on.
The Civic Association would like to thank Mr. Ferdie Marek for his generous contribution. Also, thanks to Brandan and Robyn McCobin for generously donating the paint and supplies to restore the Christmas statues. They held up quite well during the winter.
Congratulations to Xander Kapler and Tessa Chapman on earning honors for the 3rd making period for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.
Bury your banana peels in the soil in your garden. They are rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium. They make excellent natural fertilizer and repel insects. They can also be chopped in small pieces and added to your plants. As they decompose, they enrich the soil. You can even make banana water by soaking the peels in water for 24 hours.. Then use the water on your plants. (Just hope they don’t grow bananas.)
Civic meeting on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.
Happy Birthday wishes to Jaron Williams, 11th; John Risser, 12th; and Joyce Walsh, 13th. Have a fantastic day.
Happy Anniversary to Michael and Georgia Martin as they celebrate on the 15th. Enjoy your day.
There may still be events going on around the County, so keep your eye on the Sully and Face Book.to see what might interest you. Yard sales are popping up now. Hopefully, it will get warmer for outdoor activities.
Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Don’t let the wind blow your hat off.
