Hope you all had a good week and one next week too. We had some pretty nice weather and then Sunday had a pretty good thunderstorm. Rain is needed. It’s very dry and the grass feels crunchy when walking on it. The hummers are loving this weather and emptying the feeder in a few days. Fun to watch their “shenanigans” during the day. Haven’t see a deer or turkey for quite some time. We do have a couple cute little bunnies and one medium sized ground hog. Gardens are looking pretty good and there are so many places with beautiful hanging baskets and flower garden plots.
Happy Birthday to Carole Kilgus (late) on the 28th. Also to Matt Dayton, Jr., 29th; and Casey Bonardi, 30th; Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherril Dayton, both on August 4th. Have a nice day to all of you.
Hope everyone is doing well. Those that are “under the weather”, hope feel better real soon.
Happy Anniversary to John and Mary Rajkiewicz as they celebrate on the 3rd of August. Have a happy day and many more.
This Saturday, the 1st of August, the Lopez Civic Association will be celebrating 150 years. Something for everyone. Noon to 10 p.m. with lots to see and do. Meet old friends and make new friends. Check it all out. Many new things this year. At the Pavilion on top of the hill, coming into Lopez.
Have you noticed if your paprika, chili powder, and other condiments turn a dark color when they have been opened for use and then replaced on the shelf? Try keeping them in the refrigerator. They will hold their true color if placed back there after each use. (I wonder if it keeps them from getting hard. Maybe should try rice too, since rice is used to keep salt from getting hard. I have problem with garlic powder. Once I open it, it gets hard and I have to get it all mixed again, or sometimes it gets so bad I have to throw it out. Think I’ll try the salt idea.)
I learned a good idea this week. When frying on the stove, put those aluminum throw away pie tins, upside down, over the burners you are not using. It keeps them clean and no hard work to get the burners cleaned. Good idea and I never thought of that and sometimes it gets pretty greasy. But…….sometimes I’m using all of them at one time. Depends on what I’m frying.
I think I rambled enough for this time. Enjoy your week, whatever you may decide to do. Take a walk, do the laundry, do some baking, visit a friend. Just “do”. You’ll be glad you did. If you want news in the paper, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com. I will get it in for you. Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.
