Wasn’t a bad week.  Had some nice days.  Had some rain on Thursday.  Saturday was really nice, no rain, so Mildred Old Home Day was sure a success.  It did start raining pretty heavy after 10 p.m.  Sunday started out pretty foggy and cool, but by the afternoon, it was HOT.   Hopefully this week will still be pretty pleasant.  The gardens are about done, but I think everyone did pretty well.  I saw lots of tomatoes and squash, as well as cucumbers and beans in the gardens in my walks around town.

       Sympathy from the community to family, relatives, and many friends of Joe Caccia who passed away on Sunday, the 13th.  He was such a pleasant person to know and he will be missed by all who knew him.   He was a Lopez native and was recently living in NY.

     Got the following from Wanda Brumwell to share:     Dutch Mountain Pottery, 5667 Dutch Mountain Road, Lopez, is participating in the 2^nd annual Sullivan County Arts & Artists Tour September 19th  and  20th.  My studio will be open!  I have unpacked & have a huge amount of pottery for sale, as well as giving demonstrations on the wheel.  Hours: Saturday 10-4 & 11-4 on Sunday.  The 150^th anniversary Lopez mugs & crocks are here for pickup or shopping.  Stop by to see what all is there.

     Civic meeting on Wednesday, the 16th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

     Saturday, the 19th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. St. Vladimir’s is having their Train Meet at the Church Hall (behind the Church).  Seems like an interesting time, so stop and take a look at what is going on there.

     Happy Birthday to Roland Dayton, 21st; Bob Day and Rosalie Nicznski, both celebrate on the 23rd.  Hope you all have a nice day.

     Nina Weslowski spent some time over the Labor Day holiday in Allentown with her parents, Team Mom and Team Dad.  Also with her brother, Paul, and friend, Chris.  On that Saturday Nina, Paul and Chris traveled to Boston, MA, to visit with their grandmother.  Such a nice visit, especially since Nan is 102 years young and still knows everybody and every thing.

      If you put a “squirt of lemon” or a teaspoon of vinegar in the water when you boil cauliflower, you will find no discoloration.   Another good one:  place a heel of bread on top of cabbage before putting the lid on the pot to cook.  There will be no odor.  The bread has no effect on the cabbage and should be removed after cooking.  This works well also for broccoli and Brussels sprouts.  (Gonna try that for broccoli as it does smell pretty bad when cooking.)

     There are still plenty of things that will be going on in the next few months.  Keep an eye on the Sully to see if you’re interested.   (Halloween will be coming up before we know it.)
