Can’t really complain about the nice weather we’ve been having.  Cold mornings, but warm during the day.  I know the hunters would rather snow to track the deer and then drag it out of the woods when its shot, but I’ll take this weather for sure.

Cory McDonald, Wakefield, RI, spent the Thanksgiving holiday here visiting family and friends.

NO Civic meeting in the month of December due to the Christmas holiday.

Sympathy from the community on the passing of Jim McGinty on the 29th of November.  A mass of Christian burial will be held on December 10th at St. Francis Church, Mildred, with Rev. Rojas presiding.   A pleasant man to know and he will be missed,

The first marking period Honor Roll has come out.  Those on the Distinguished Honor Roll include Kyler and Paige Burke; Aaron and Trevor Kinsey; and Kassidy Brown.  On Honor Roll was Joey Malkemes and Jacob Williams.  Congratulations, great job and keep up the good work.

Santa Claus made a visit to Lopez on Saturday when he stopped by Russian Hall to visit with the many kids and others who gathered there.   Thanks to Barbara Andrewlavage who again chaired this event.  Big Thank You to her for donating all the craft items used and the candy given.  It is much appreciated.  The Civic Association has Santa give out the big bag of toys.  All had a great time.  Someone mentioned there must have been fifty people in attendance.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Dylan Amon, 13th; Noah Brown, 14th; Carter Vermiere, 17th; and V Rev Mother Christophora and Christian Santarelli, both on the 19th.  Hope you all have a great day.

On December 16th, Red Rock Job Corps will be having their wrapping party at the Santa Workshop there.  The kids get to pick a gift for someone at home, it is wrapped for them and everyone has a good time.  If you’re interested in helping, contact Jackie Johnson at

HINT:  “Brighten up your fireplace brickwork by using one cup of white vinegar and one gallon of warm water.  Scrub the area and your bricks will look shiny and nice.”   (Good for those decorating for the Christmas holiday.)

Are we having some good weather or what?  Can’t believe these temperatures.  I really feel bad for those in TX, KS and CO and the bad weather,  no power, and flooding they are getting again.  We can be thankful for what we have.  Weather was really good for those traveling over the Holiday.  It’s to be nice all week, from what I heard on TV.

Friday was the perfect day for members of the Civic Association to put up the Christmas decorations at the Monument.  Didn’t have to work with snow or sloppy weather.  Those who came out to help included:  Bob and JoAnn; Brian and Nina; Molly and Clair; Brandan and Robyne; Robyne’s brother, Steve Hetrick, who was visiting from VA; and Macrina.  We got done in no time and had the lights turned on at 5 p.m. for all to enjoy.   After decorating, Bob and I went into the lower park and while there we saw a bald eagle flying around above us.  Stayed for a while; then went up toward the creek near Pigeon Creek Road.  Beautiful bird.

Rifle deer season has started, so please be aware there will be a lot more action and hunters around.   Good luck hunters and hope you “bag” the big one.

Tony Sneidar, Philadelphia, is spending a few days at his home on Church Street and doing some hunting while he is here.

Ted and Mary Lowden, Marlton, NJ, are enjoying a lot of time at their home on Maple Terrace.  TJ Lowden, Marlton, NJ, spent the weekend at his home on Church Street and visited them also while he was here.

Tent City has some campers occupied for a few days.  There are many of the Borick family relatives here to do some hunting and visiting friends.    A lot of Ron and Kevin Franks friends are also here doing some hunting.  Good luck, guys.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and son, Tyler, Hunlock Creek, and Bob and JoAnn McGuire, spent Saturday with Brian McGuire and Nina for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.   Had a great time playing Win, Lose or Draw.   Looking forward to another game night soon.

I think everyone is glad that Cold Spring is running again.  There will be some landscaping done in the Spring when the area gets dried up some.  If you’d like to help maintain Cold Spring, you can do so by sending your donation to the Civic Association, P.O. Not a bad weekend.  Was a little chilly, but we didn’t get what some of the other States got and the week is to be pretty nice.  Will make it nice for those travelers going visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday.  I know there were quite a few hunters in for the three days of bear season and hoped they maybe got one.  Then, rifle deer season will be upon us right after Thanksgiving, so I’m staying as far from the woods as I can during that time.

Just want to put another “blurb” in about telling folks to SLOW DOWN  on any street in Lopez.  There was another cat that was hit and killed by a car.  I know pets are family, but if that was a child, it would be much worse.  There is no reason to “fly” on these roads, especially now that we have many more kids in town.  Think about it.  SLOW DOWN and keep everyone safe.   If you have to get somewhere so fast, leave a little earlier.

I hope you got to see “A Fractured Christmas Carol”, put on by the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company on Friday or Saturday.   We went Friday evening and it was so good.  The cast did an excellent job and I never laughed so much.   During Intermission, they auctioned off bags that you didn’t know what was inside and they also had a Chinese auction.  It’s always nice to support these folks with their fund raisers.  Good job, all, and can’t wait for next year.

The Civic Association will be putting up the Christmas decorations on Friday, the 27, 11 a.m.  Meet at the Pavilion and anyone is welcome to come and help.  Weather should be in our favor.

Cold Spring is coming along very nicely.  The water is running.  There will be some landscaping done in the Spring when it’s not so muddy.  If you’d like to donate anything toward maintenance of Cold Spring, please send to Lopez Civic Association, P.O. Tony and Patti Sneidar and “Forest”, Philadelphia, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.

Also spending time at their homes on Church Street was TJ and Allison Lowden, Marlton, NJ, and Joe and Diane Fanning and “Molly”, Landenberg.  Joe and Diane said a bear, about 350 lbs., crossed the road in front of them as they got almost to their house on Wednesday evening.  They also had some deer in the yard while they were here.

Ted and Mary Lowden, Marlton, NJ, are spending some time at their home on Maple Terrace.  They had a couple of beautiful, big bucks in their yard one evening.  Maybe they will stay there so they can’t be taken during hunting season.

Happy Anniversary to Don and Wilda (Wood) Paul as they celebrate on December 2nd.  Have a great day.

HINT:  “Need more refrigerator space?  Stack gelatin salads and casseroles using cake cooling racks or trays.  Plastic glasses can help adjust the height.”  (With the holidays coming and friends over, this may be useful.  Probably can be used for other salads, etc. also.)   To make a kitchen look more cheerful, add healthy plants or a small herb garden on the windowsill.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you have a nice day with family, relatives, and friends.  Think of those who are serving our Country who won’t make it home for the Holiday.  Pray that they are kept safe during these turbulent times and that  everyone will be able to live without fear.

Wow!!  Had a couple cold, windy days with a few flurries.  Sunday did turn out nicer with sun and not much wind.  Later in the week it’s to warm up, so that will be nice.

Congratulations to Dustin, Sam and Gaige Burke on the arrival of their baby.  Grayson Charles John Burke was born on the 8th, weighing in at 8 lb. 9 oz. and 20 inches long.   Now the fun begins and I’m sure Gaige will be a helpful big brother.

New Albany Volunteer Fire Company held their first production of “A Fractured Christmas Carol” on Friday and Saturday.  If you missed it, they will have their final production on Friday and Saturday, the 20th and 21st.  This is at the New Albany Social Hall and will be at 7:30 p.m.  They also have things taking place during intermission.  Get out and support the Fire Company.

Cold Spring is now running.  I’m sure everyone will be glad to hear that.  There is some landscaping that needs to be done when the ground is not so muddy.   Donations to this project still being accepted and very much appreciated.  Send yours to Lopez Civic Assoc., P.O. HINT:  “For winter storage of apples, peaches and citrus fruits, keep them in a cool, dark place, such as unheated garage.  They will keep longer if they don’t touch one another.  Loosely cover to retard drying.  Wrap unblemished fruit loosely in newspaper or place crumpled newspapers between layers of fruit.  If the temperature drops below 32 degrees (which it will do here), you will need to protect them from freezing.  Line a box with a large plastic garbage bag that has holes punched in it for ventilation.  Layer fruit as described above.”   (From the book I received from Connie.  Has lots of great hints.)

From Mr. Neubauer’s little brown book:  November 15, 1973 – Clear, warm and 52 degrees.   I had 23 degrees early Sunday morning, but the sun was out really nice and it’s clear and maybe will hit 52 degrees later.

Getting some cooler weather, but is to warm up again next week.  Veterans Day will be on Wednesday, so thank those who serve and have served to keep us free.    I heard even the following week is to be “above” normal temperatures.  Maybe we’ll have a mild winter this year.

Don’t forget, Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m. the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company presents their play, “A Fractured Christmas Carol”.  This will be at the New Albany Social Hall.   Another presentation will be on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21, same time, same place.   If you get a chance to go, it’s well worth it; a fun time for all.

Tony and Patti Sneidar, Philadelphia, spent the weekend at their home on Church Street.  I imagine Tony is getting things ready for the up-coming hunting season.

Jim and Barbara Craig, Media, spent some time at their home on Church Street and enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors.

Got a phone call the other day wanting people to really slow down when going through town.  No need to think you’re on a super highway.  Seems a cat was hit on Main Street and killed.  If that were a child, it would be a tragedy.   Of course, pets are also like family.  So, people, please SLOW down.

On Sunday, November 29th, St. Vladimir’s Church will have an ethnic foods dinner, Noon to 5 p.m., at the Church Hall.  This is eat in or take out and B.Y.O.B.   Sounds pretty good so have a nice meal out; you won’t have to cook; and you’re supporting the Church.

Next Civic meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17th, 6 p.m., Township Building.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Huray, on Saturday.

Bob and JoAnn McGuire visited his sister, Lola and Mike Mattie, Forty Fort, on Friday.  Also visited with Georgia (Mattie) Martin and son, Mcguire.

HINT:  “Rubbing alcohol will remove permanent marker.  Dab the surface that has the permanent marker on it with a cloth or cotton ball covered in rubbing alcohol and it will disappear quickly.”

Can’t complain about the weather too much.  It’s been pretty nice the last few days and I hear the week is to be even better.  We did have some pretty cold, frosty mornings, but then it warmed up well.   Most all the gardens are done and the flower beds pretty dead looking.

IHM Parish is having their annual Fall Bazaar on Sunday, the 8th at St. Francis Hall in Mildred.  This will be from Noon to 5 p.m. with all kinds of activities going on.  If you get a chance, check it out.  It’s really a good time and a nice way to support the Church.

We had a really good turn out this year for the Civic Association Halloween party, held on Saturday, at the Pavilion.  Thanks to Chairman, Kim (Neufer) Hall, who did a good job for her first time.  Thanks to the judges, Gloria Weisbrod and Rhonda Stasiak, who had their job cut out for them in picking out the winners.  There were some awesome costumes this year.  Prizes were awarded to the following:  0-3 age group: Pretty -Khloie Bahr; Ugly – Owen O’Conner; Funny – Henry Ritinski.   4-7 age group:  Pretty – Kaeleigh McDonald; Ugly – Gaige Burke; Funny – Weston Higley.  8 -11 age group:  Pretty – Ember Higley; Ugly – Connor Partington; Funny – Luke Hontz.  12 & Up age group:  Pretty – Erica Brigham; Ugly – Kyler Burke; Funny – Layton Shen.   Everyone enjoyed refreshments.  After the party, Brian McGuire took kids, and parents, trick or treating through town on his hay wagon, pulled by his truck.  That was fun for all and thanks to him for doing that.  Thanks to all who donated “goodies” and helped with the party.  Thank you to those who had their porch light on and treated the kids when they stopped by.  Looking forward to next year.

HINT:  “Keep windows frost free by pouring a cup of salt into a liter of water.  Sponge the liquid on the inside of windows to prevent frost from forming during the winter months.”
(Have to try that as they do get frosty.)

We’ve seen a lot of turkeys around in the fields, but not too many deer.
