Lopez, PA Posted on March 18, 2020 by Bob McGuireMarch 26, 2020

Finally getting some nicer weather.  Had some good, not so low, early morning temperatures during the week.  Monday hit 65 degrees late afternoon. Lots of welcome sunshine.  Still pretty windy, but getting better.   Robins are out in bunches, along with the turkeys.  I heard that the ticks are out already, in big numbers.  So, be on the alert if you are quadding or walking in areas of high grass.  Please check yourself and your clothing to make sure you don’t have any attached to you.  Stupid things are as bad as this Coronavirus going around.

Congratulations to John Carmelo for second period Honor Roll.  I missed him in last week’s news.  He’s a new boy in town and I didn’t know of him.

FLASH:   Just to let you know, the 51st Annual Che-Hanna Gem and Mineral  Show, scheduled for March 28th and 29th has been cancelled, due to the virus.  Sorry to make this announcement, but hope to see you all next year.

We have a couple of the 2019 Lopez mugs, depicting VFW Fire Hall still for sale.  If interested, contact me at the info below.    The 2020 mugs have been ordered.

Hope you all are feeling ok so far.  But…..never know when that Coronavirus will hit out area.  You know the drill.  Wash your hands; stay away from crowds; if you’re sick, stay home; etc., etc. etc..

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale the second and fourth Sunday of the month.  Available at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Stop by to get yours.  They do go fast.

Happy Birthday wishes to round out the month of March go to:  Aaron Kinsey, 21st; Irene Risser, 28th; and Heather McDonald and Trevor Kinsey, 30th.  Have a nice day.

If you stop in the post office, wish Alyssa a Happy Birthday as she celebrates on the 21st.  Have a good day, Alyssa.

Most activities and events in Sullivan County have been cancelled.  Hopefully, not for too long.  Watch the Sully for them when this is over with.  I guess the kids will be happy to be home from school for a couple weeks, but it’s hard on working parents to either stay home or find sitters.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week.  Last report I heard it’s to be warm; maybe a couple rain showers.  Get out and get some fresh air, even if you need to take the umbrella along.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Take care and I’ll be here next time.  Thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 13, 2020 by Bob McGuireMarch 13, 2020

Our weather was fairly nice during the week.  Temperatures were mainly pretty good early morning.  We did have a lot of sun,  a little rain and a snow shower, but nothing major.  There were geese flying North, a robin was seen by my neighbor in his yard, and the turkeys have made their presence known.  Sunday was a perfect day and got up to a balmy 51 degrees.  There was quadding and dirt bike riding that some enjoyed.  Did you remember to turn your clock AHEAD on Sunday morning so you weren’t late for things?

Sympathy from the community to the family, relatives and many friends of Alice Fedorchak who passed away on the Monday, the 2nd.  Funeral was held on Friday, with burial at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Lopez.  She was a long time Lopez resident and such a good friend and neighbor.  I enjoyed visiting and sitting on the porch visiting with both her and Mike.  She was most recently living in Williamsport and I enjoyed the many phone conversations we had.  She always said to tell everyone Hello.  She will be missed.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.  Available at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Stop by and get yours.  They do go fast.

Congratulations to Charles Armioia and Paige Burke for making the second period Honor Roll.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, spent a few days at their home on Church Street and took advantage of the nice weather.

Civic meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Gianna Mae DiRocco, 16th; Don Risser and Sheryln Dendler, 17th; and Joe Tabor, 18th.  Have a good day.

“B” sends birthday wishes to Steph Putnam, 17th and Kristin Putnam, 18th.  He also wishes Lori Higley a “Nifty” birthday on the 19th.  Hope you have a fantastic day.

For those of you bothered with a sore throat, put a pinch of cayenne in two ounces of water and gargle.  For flu and virus, take raw garlic clove in applesauce two times a day.  Maybe it will help, maybe not.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and son, Tyler, Hunlock Creek, visited on Monday with us and with Brian McGuire.  Tyler is on break from RIT in Rochester, NY.

With the warm weather, I don’t think much ice fishing got done, but we did see someone on Lake Jean a couple weeks ago.  Wouldn’t get me out there, for sure.

Keep an eye on the Sully.  There will be many activities coming up.  There’s always a dinner or a benefit you may be interested in.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th.  Wearin’ of the green that day and all that goes with it.  I’m sure there will be green beer and green foods served at most places to help celebrate.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  I heard it’s to be “stupendous”!!  Hopefully that will happen.  Then, we’ll probably get more cold weather.  Wish it would get warm and stay warm.  This yo-yo type weather is not for me.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on March 4, 2020 by Bob McGuireMarch 13, 2020

Weather for the week wasn’t too bad.  Had a couple of days in the teens in the early morning.  Other days were in the 20’s and 30’s each morning.  Some days it did warm up; others it didn’t.  We had rain late Tuesday afternoon; Thursday we had some snow.  We still had that whistling wind each day.  There were quite a few turkeys in the field across the street, I guess just checking things out.  Saturday we had a snow shower that covered the roads with snow.  The roads got plowed, but the wind blew so hard it blew the snow back across the road on the hill above us.  Sunday was sunny and not quite so cold, but that darn wind still blew.   Now, I hear it’s to hit the 40’s during the week, but rain almost every day.  We’ll see what happens.  It’s pretty muddy and the ground is so soft.  Lots of ruts on the dirt roads where vehicles have traveled.  With more rain, it will get quite messy.  The month of March started out pretty nice, so does that mean March is coming in like a lamb and will go out like a lion?  Hope it will go out like a lamb too.

FLASH!!!!   Remember to turn your clocks AHEAD on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.   Wish they would leave it one way or the other and not have to do this in March and November.

Sympathy from the community to the family and friends of Ralph Edkin who passed away on February 23rd.

Sympathy from the community also to the family, relatives and friends of Joe Sbardella who passed away on February 24th. His wife, Rose (McDonald) was a former Lopezian and they had a home in Mildred.  After moving back to Warren, RI, they came to Sullivan County often during  the summer, always coming and helping at Lopez Old Home Day.  He was a very friendly, nice fellow.  He will be missed.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale every second and fourth Sunday of the month.  They will be available at the Church Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.  Stop by to get your supply; they don’t last long.  They make a really good meal.

Ted and Fay Puzo, Ashtabula, OH, spent party of their winter vacation with Alex and Ginny Stavisky in Palm Bay, FL.  Alex said, “Happy to say the weather was excellent and both took some sun back home to Ohio”.

Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 17th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home here.  Was a nice day for travel.

Sorry to hear, due to the warmer weather, that there will be no toboggan slide in Eagles Mere.  That was a major fund raiser for the Fire Company.  Been having bad luck the last few years with the weather to warm to build the slide.

Fifty-first annual Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 28th and 29th at the Wysox Fire Company Social Hall.  Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Educational displays, dealers with all kinds of gems and minerals, mini-mine for the kids, cabachon making by you to take home, geode cutting, UV programs by UVBOB, door prizes and food available.  Something for everyone so stop over and take a look.

I had a phone chat with Diane Fanning on Sunday and she said maybe an early spring.  Down in Landenberg they have crocuses and daffodils coming up and they have had many robins when it’s been warm.  Don’t know where they go when it’s cold, but she said they don’t seen them.   It’s really early here for robins yet.  Hopefully soon, along with the humming birds.

Have some birthday wishes to send out.  Happy Birthday to Anthony Sneidar, March 1st; Keene Vinetelli, 5th; Bethany Dendler, 6th; Janelle Day, 9th; Ruby Malkemes and Tally (McGee) Tierney, 10th; Dan Zhou Tomasak and Julian Bonner, 11th; and Bob McGuire and Theresa Pochatko, 13th; Elizabeth Weisbrod, 14th.  Hope you all have a great day.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Tina Taber as they celebrate on the 14th.  Have a nice day.

Congratulations to Tony Sneidar on his retirement from the Philadelphia Fire Department.  He can now enjoy his time here at his home in Dushore.

Keep an eye on the Sully for events going on that you may be interested in.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week.  It’s to be warm, but take the umbrella with you; it may be needed.  Don’t forget to turn your clocks AHEAD on Saturday or Sunday early.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 11, 2020 by Bob McGuireFebruary 11, 2020

As I was typing my news late Sunday evening, I happened to look out the window and it’s snowing lightly, small glistening flakes; maybe some light rain mixed in it.  I think by midnight, when I checked,  we had an inch, maybe more.  During the week, after cool mornings, it warmed up a bit.  Lows were in the 20’s except for Saturday, 6 degrees and Sunday 9 degrees.  We had a pouring rain early Friday that changed to heavy snow and really came down.  School had been cancelled the night before and that was a good call as it got worse as the day went on.  There was enough to shovel and plow.  Did go up to 50 degrees on Monday and Tuesday and that felt good.   Was nice enough to dry laundry on the line and just love the smell of freshly air dried clothes.  Of course, the wind is always with us, no matter what.  I did hear this week it’s to get up in the 40’s, which a chance of rain showers.   I did see some kids sledding on the hill across the street on Saturday.

St. Vladimir’s Church has halupki and pierogies for sale the second and fourth Sunday of each month.  Available at the Church Hall from Noon to 1 p.m.  Stop by and stock up.  The do go fast.

Coming up on Friday is Valentine’s Day, so have a great day.  On Saturday is Winterfest at Camp Brule starting at 7 a.m. and also the Wine and Chocolate Walk in Dushore starting at noon.   Apparently, no toboggan slide in Eagles Mere this year, due to the warm weather and ice not thick enough to make the slide.

Happy Birthday wishes to Allison Lowden and Tim Brown, 17th, which is also President’s Day; Khloie Bahr, 19th; and Clair Johnson II, 20th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Still time to get your order in for the 2020 Lopez mug.  Still $20 and the order will be going out.  If you want one reserved, please contact me at the information below.  This year’s mug will be Sulick Hall.

Hopefully we’re going to get an early Spring.  I think everyone is ready to get out of this up and down weather.  Hope everyone who is bothered by colds and the flu is feeling much better.  I guess that Coronavirus is really causing problems.  We can only hope it doesn’t hit here; the strain of flu we have now is quite bad.

Will leave you until next time and have an enjoyable week.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me in person; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on February 7, 2020 by Bob McGuireFebruary 7, 2020

As I’m sitting here typing my news on Sunday afternoon, the snow is falling.  First, it’s big puffy flakes, then it’s fine.  The fields and the road are getting covered, but it’s still warm enough to try and melt some of it. The plow did go through late afternoon as there was enough to plow and shovel.  Later in the evening it turned to snow and rain.  The week wasn’t too bad after early morning frosts; the wind still with us.  Phil DID NOT see his shadow so that means early Spring.  If you can believe that.  I’m going to hold him to it.  Now, they want to not use the ground hog and use a robot.  Never heard anything so silly.

St. Vladimir’s Church now has pierogies and halupki for sale the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from Noon- 1 p.m.  Pick them up at the Church Hall.  Stop by and stock up; they go fast.

The 2020 Lopez mug is going to be Sulick Hall.  If you’d like to reserve one, let me know ASAP.  Still $20 and the order will be going out soon.  Don’t miss out.  You may not get one if you wait until they’re here.

Winterfest is coming up on Saturday, the 15th, at Camp Brule.  Check out the Sully and the Chamber website for information on this event.  Also, check the Sully for other events that may be going on and you would be interested in.

Glad to hear Mary Lowden is progressing nicely after her recent surgery.  She’s out and about a little bit and giving Ted a break from his duties.

Bob and I spent Friday in Forty Fort visiting his sister, Lola and Mike Mattie, his niece, Georgia Martin and her daughter, Casey.   On the way home we stopped in Hunlock Creek to visit and have pizza with son, Bob, Jr. and meet the new kittens, Otto and Echo.  Jr. spent Saturday at RIT in Rochester, NY, with his son, Tyler, and helped him celebrate his birthday.  Nice time for everyone.

I heard the week is to be quite nice.  Warm temperatures, but maybe some rain.  I hope you’re not bothered with the flu or the colds that are going around.

Happy Birthday wishes to Alex Aharonian, 11th; Lisa Kellogg Williams, 13th; Tommy Van Dyke and Krystal Vermiere, 14th; and Haley Latch, 15th.  Hope you all have a great day.

Hope you all have a nice Valentine’s Day with loved ones.  Hope you do something special for that special person.

I think that’s all I have to report for now.  Enjoy your week; it’s to be warm and nice.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

NOTICE: THE 2020 LOPEZ MUG WILL BE THE “SULICK HALL”. I AM ORDERING THE AMOUNT WE NEED

TO FILL THE ORDERS. BE SURE YOUR ORDER IN.

The weather was all over the place for last week.  Monday was a low of 11 degrees, with flurries.  Tuesday and 1 degree and Wednesday was a whopping Zero.  Thursday, 4 degrees and Friday 18 degrees for a low with a high of 49 degrees.  That really was nice.  The wind was still present all the time.  Saturday we got the pouring rain with a little snow mix and the wind was wicked.  Sunday was a better day with some son and felt pretty good.  Heard the week is to be pretty good with no rain, snow or sleet.  But….Saturday and Sunday may be another weekend with a mix of snow and rain.  Hope not, but we have to take what Mother Nature gives us.  One lady I talked to during the week said she’s pretty sure we’ll get an early Spring.  I said I’d hold her to it.  See what happens.

St. Vladimir’s Church has halupki for sale.  They are available every second and fourth Sunday of the month, from Noon – 1 p.m.  Stop by the Church Hall and get yours before they are gone.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent Sunday at her home here.  Was a nice day for a ride and Church.

Winterfest is coming up on Saturday, February 15th at Camp Brule.  Check out the website sckiwanis.com and see what all will be happening during the day.  Of course, there will be the Polar Bear Plunge, along with many other things going on.  This is held snow or no snow.

Get well to Mary Lowden who had recent surgery.  I hear Ted is taking very good care of her.

Happy Birthday wishes for early February to Kyra Vinetelli and Brian Dendler, 1st; Dee Whatley, 4th; and Helen Amon, 5th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Us, along with Uncle “B” send special birthday greetings to Tyler McGuire as he celebrates on the 2nd.  That is Groundhog Day.  Do you think Phil will see his shadow and give us six more weeks of winter?  We can only hope he does not.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home on Church Street.

I think that’s he news for this time.  Enjoy your week; hope it’s all you want it to be.  If the weatherman is right, should be pretty nice.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 25, 2020 by Bob McGuireJanuary 25, 2020

Had some cold temperatures last week.  Went down 10 degrees on Friday and 8 degrees on Saturday, with snow.  Most of the week early temperatures were in the 20’s.  The wind was still with us.  That never seems to stop.  Last I heard it’s to warm up later in the week.  We can only hope.

FLASH…….THE 2020 Lopez Mug will be Sulick Hall, which was on Main Street.  If you are interested in RESERVING a mug, please let me know ASAP as the order will go out soon and we will only order as many as we need.  Price is still $20.  Contact me at the information below.

Winterfest will be coming up on February 15th at Camp Brule.  Gates open at 7 a.m., snow or no snow.  Vendors, plenty of food, ice fishing, ice skating, ice carvers, live auction and the famous Polar Bear Plunge.  This is sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Sullivan County and it’s a major fund raiser.  Support and help is needed to keep Winterfest profitable so they can continue helping everyone in Sullivan County.  Mark your calendar now and plan to go to Winterfest.

St. Vladimir’s Church has halupki for sale.  They will be available every second and fourth Sunday from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Church Hall.  They go fast, so stop by and get yours.  Pierogies are sold out, but they hope to make more soon.   Watch the Sully for up-dates.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Irene (Huray) Pequignot, 22nd; Mike Stavisky (Alex and Ginny’s son, down in sunny FL), 24th; Owen Evans and Scott Aharonian, 27th; Jennifer Pequignot-Laird, 28th and Lisa and Jason Burke, 30th.  Have a great day.

There may be other things going on around the County you might be interested in, so keep a watch on the Sully to find out.

Hope everyone is feeling well and not bothered with colds or that terrible flu virus going around.  Maybe this cold, freezing weather will kill all the flu bugs and leave us alone.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week; should be lots of warm weather and no storms, unless the weather man changes it day by day.  Have news, give me a call at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I will be here next time, storm or no storm.

Boy!!  Mother Nature is sure being unpredictable now.  We had some

really nice weather last week, with temperatures in the 50’s with lots of

sunshine, but that wind was still whipping around.  The sun felt good, but it was quite muddy and “gushy” when walking in the yard.    I guess we are to get

more of the same for the week, but then we may be in for some colder

weather with some snow on the way.  I knew it couldn’t last forever.  Gotta

take whatever she gives us.  It’s “freaky” weather for January.

Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown, spent the weekend with their daughter, Nina Weslowski and Brian McGuire.  The enjoyed dinner at Colley Pub on Friday evening and the chili/soup cook-off on Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to Brian McGuire who took first place with his taco soup at the chili/soup cook-off, held on Sunday at the American Legion in Dushore.

Congratulations to the Sneidar family, and staff, as they celebrated their one year anniversary, over the weekend,  owning the Colley Pub.   Good luck for many more years.

St. Vladimir’s Church has halupki for sale.  They will be available every second and fourth Sunday at the Hall, from Noon to 1 p.m.  Stop by and get yours as they go fast.  They have sold out of pierogies, but hope to make more soon.  Keep your eye on the Sully for up-dates.

Bob McGuire, Jr. and son, Tyler, Hunlock Creek, visited his parents, Bob and JoAnn McGuire and his brother, Brian, on Friday.  Tyler left on Saturday to return to his studies at RIT, Rochester, NY.

Happy Birthday wishes to send out to Adel Bradshaw, 20th; and Alice Fedorchak and Jim Rouse, both on the 21st.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Linda Beaver, 12th; and Ted and Mary Lowden, 17th.  Have an enjoyable day.

B’s gang sends special birthday wishes to Tyler Higley as he celebrates on the 13th.  Have a good day, “Slick”.

I forgot a birthday at the end of 2019, so Happy Birthday to Ginny Stavisky who celebrated on the 31st.  Hope you had a nice day.

Has the flu bug gotten to you?  There is quite a bit of that going around, so if you don’t get it, you’re one of the lucky ones.  Get better soon if you have it.

Thank you to Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald who helped me get the Christmas decorations down from the Pavilion area.  The higher stuff is now up to the guys to take care of.  The weather was perfect Sunday to take care of this, before a snow fall comes.   No work bee as it was a spur of the moment decision when we were walking.   They did a good job carrying everything back up to the Pavilion to be put away sometime later.

There will probably be things going on in the County.  Watch the Sully for those things that will take place during the winter weather and there may be something you’d like to take part in.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week,  Get out and get some fresh air and sunshine while you can.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Happy New Year!!   Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and hope the New Year is going well so far.  The weather did cooperate for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Was good for travel for those who were going to visit friends and family.  New Year’s Eve was a little dicey with some slick roads.  New Year’s Day was much better.  Flurries are flying around out there this Sunday as I am typing my news; it’s bitter cold and windy, but the sun is trying to help out, but not doing much.  Maybe more coming Tuesday into Wednesday, but don’t know how much.

Congratulations to Tyler McGuire who was named to the Dean’s list at RIT, Rochester, NY.  He is the son of Bob McGuire, Jr. Hunlock Creek, and grandson of Bob and JoAnn McGuire, Lopez.

St. Vladimir’s Church has halupki for sale.  Available the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 12 – 1 p.m., at the Hall.  Stop by and get yours; they go fast.  They are out of pierogies, but hope to replenish soon.

Cold weather is coming for sure and you need a Lopez hoodie..  We still have retro hoodies and tshirts for sale.  If interested, contact me at the info below.

Some birthday wishes for January.  Some are for early, some are for later.  Happy Birthday to Jim Craig, 1st, down there in sunny FL; Jeannie Kapler, Edith Tamburro, and Alex Stavisky, all on the 4th; Matt Weisbrod, 6th; Linda Santarelli, 7th;and John McDonald, Jr., 9th.  Hope you all had/have a nice day.

I know there will be some winter activities going on, so keep an eye on the Sully for those happenings.

Guess that’s the news from my snowy back yard.  Enjoy your week; might just be pretty nice.  If not, stay warm; drink something hot and bundle up if you have to go outside.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.  Comments, good or bad, are always welcome.

Lopez, PA Posted on January 4, 2020 by Bob McGuireJanuary 4, 2020

Well, here it is.  This is the last issue of the Sully for the year.  Hope you all had a good year.  Weather during this last week was in the low digits and still very windy.  I did hear that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are to be really nice.  And….the week up to New Year’s.  Will those weather men be right?  We’ll have to wait and see.

Job Corps Center hosted a Christmas luncheon on Saturday.  The gym was decorated with a large, beautiful tree from Jugan’s Tree Farm.  The tables were festive with tiny trees and chocolate candies.   Santa stopped to visit with the kids.  This luncheon was for the Staff and their families, any kids who were not able to go home for Christmas and for CRC members. Kids got a treat from Santa and CRC members were also given a Christmas gift.   Food was delicious and plentiful; desserts were so good, made by Mad Bakers in Dushore.  Christmas music played while we ate and then there was a silent auction where the winners were announced.  Congratulations to Tom and Kathy Robbins and Wylie and Melanie Norton who were presented a plaque for their many years of involvement with Job Corps, their community and Sullivan County and beyond.  Those from Lopez who were able to go included Les and Kathy Isett, Molly and Clair Johnson, Dave and Ruth Kale, Mr. and Mrs. Saylor and Bob and I.  Everyone at Red Rock Job Corps Center is to be commended for making this a day to remember.   Merry Christmas!!

Safe travels to all who are going to visit relatives and friends over this Holiday season.  Seems there will be no storms, so that’s good right there.  I’ll have more when the next Sully comes out of visitors around the area.

Guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy!  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and see you in 2020.  Merry Christmas to all and to all a great day!

Weather was nice off an on during the last week.  Had some higher temperatures with rain, but then Thursday it went down to 9 degrees.  That ever present wind and cold is what bothers most.  Hopefully, we’ll get some more nice weather.   As I type this Sunday evening, it doesn’t look good for Monday into Tuesday and the rest of the week looks pretty good.  Just have to wait and see what Mother Nature will bring us.  A little snow is ok, but the rain, sleet and snow is a no-no.  The rain did spoil some of the activities at Dushore on Saturday, but I’m sure there was enough for all to do, especially visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Congratulations to Kyleigh McDonald who was inducted, on the 18th,  into the National Elementary Honor Society with the Agora home school program.  Way to go Kyleigh.  Keep up the good work.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale.  To order, call 570-928-8909 and leave a message.  Pick up will be on Sunday form 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Makes a nice meal for the Holidays.

TJ, Alison, and Jase, along with Wesson, Marlton, NJ, spent a couple of days at the home here and visited with his parents, Ted and Mary Lowden, Maple Terrace.

There probably are many more things that will be going on around the County in the next few weeks.  Keep an eye on the Sully to see what might be coming up that you’d be interested in.

Good luck hunters.  I guess there is still a little time left to get your deer.  I’ve seen a lot of turkeys in the field, but not many deer.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week.  Get that last minute shopping done.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get your article in.  Thanks for reading and your comments.  I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on December 15, 2019 by Bob McGuireDecember 15, 2019

Sure is winter weather now, with the cold temperatures we had during the week.  A lot of teens, with that never ending wind.  Sunday morning was down to a glorious 4 degrees, with ice on the tree branches.  Looking out the window, the sun was making them look all sparkly.  Did we hit the 50’s for Monday and Tuesday?  I doubt it, but will let you know next week.  The sun does look good……from inside.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, visited with Linda Baton at Darway on Sunday.  She also stopped to visit us while she was here.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale.  To order, call 570-928-8909 and leave a message on the machine.  Order pick-up will be on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Makes a good meal for the Holidays coming up.

The kids are really enjoying the snow covered hill across the street from us.  They have a pretty good trail for their toboggans and come down pretty fast.  They also made a couple snowmen and even a snow fort.   Oh, to be young again and do those things.  My bones would never take that ride down the hill.

I guess there is still time for hunting, so good luck to those who have not gotten their deer yet.

Happy Birthday wishes to Dylan Amon, 13th; Noah Brown, 14th; and Carter Vermiere, 17th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

All the decorations in town are looking nice and festive.  I’ve heard some nice comments about the Monument with the manger and the trees that are lit so nice.  Also, the big star on the Pavilion looks good too.  Will be there for your enjoyment until Orthodox Christmas in January 2020.

You still have time to pay your 2020 Civic Association dues.  See Heather McDonald to do this.  Remember, NO Civic meetings now until March, weather permitting at that time.

I think that’s it for now.  Enjoy your week.  See if we get that warm weather.  I’ll take it, if we do.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, how do you like the crazy weather??  All week was some snow, cold, frost, wind and Thanksgiving wasn’t all that good.  As I’m typing my news Sunday evening, the weather is nasty, as it was all day with sleet, wind and flurries.  Sure would like it to warm up, but don’t think that will be the case any time soon.

Congratulations to Paige and Kyler Burke for making the Honor Roll.  Keep up the good work.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale.  To order, please call 570-928-8909 and leave a message with your order.  Pick up will be Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.  Enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski were her parents, Gerry and Paula Weslowski, Allentown; her brother Paul Weslowski and his partner, Chris Weand, Allentown; Bob McGuire, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek; Marty Slocum, New Albany and us.  Meal was delicious, especially desserts.  All enjoyed playing Win, Lose or Draw.

No Civic meeting for the coming months.  Watch the Sully for date, time and place of the next one.  It’s not too late; you can still pay your 2020 dues.  See Heather McDonald.

Started out nice on Sunday, but the weather suddenly changed.  Despite the freezing rain and wind, the Monument area and Pavilion were decorated for Christmas.  Had a really good group of workers that included Molly and Clair Johnson; Heather, Kaeleigh and Kyleigh McDonald; Vito Arcaro; Kyler Burke; Brian McGuire; Nina Weslowski; and us.  Didn’t take that long and hope you all like it when the lights are on and you’re coming into town.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days over the Holiday at their home here.  Went home early to avoid the storm.

Happy Birthday wishes to Aaron Risser, 9th; Andrea (Matychak) Anderson and Irena Pochatko, 12th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Good luck deer hunters.  With the ground cover of snow, you will be able to track that big buck with no trouble.

There are still things that go on around the County.  Keep your eye on the Sully to find out details.  You may be interested in something.

Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, but be careful out there and stay safe.  I heard we may get up to ten inches of snow.  Hope it’s wrong, but never know at this time of year what Mother Nature has in store for us.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on November 26, 2019 by Bob McGuireNovember 26, 2019

Weather wasn’t all that bad during the week.  Higher temperatures until Friday and Saturday when it went from 38 degrees down to 16 degrees.  On Sunday we had our second snow fall.  Was surprised when I woke up and saw it snowing.  Only a couple of inches, but enough to shovel and plow.  Enough on the hill across the street for Mike and the girls to enjoy sledding.  I heard this week is to be pretty nice and good weather for Thanksgiving travelers.  Hope that is the case.

On Sunday, December 1st, we are going to Christmas decorate up at the monument.  If you’re available, come on up, at 10 a.m. to give a hand.  The more to help, the soon it will get done.  Just hope the weather cooperates for that day.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies and halupki for sale.  To order, call 570-928-8909 and leave a message on the phone.  Pierogie pick up will be on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home on Church Street.

Time is going by pretty fast.  Before we know it, it will be December.  The decorations around town are looking pretty nice.  Hope you all enjoy them when driving through.

I guess bear hunting is in now, with deer hunting on the horizon.  Good luck hunters and bag that big one.

Happy Birthday wishes to Elexus Dunkleberger on December 6th; Tony Sneidar, Jr. and Robyne McCobin on the 8th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Keep an eye on the Sully for events coming your way, that you may be interested in.  Seems there’s always something going on in Sullivan County.

I think that’s the news for this time.  Enjoy your week.  Hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends.  Take a moment to pray and thank those who cannot be with us as they are fighting for our freedom.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on November 20, 2019 by Bob McGuireNovember 26, 2019

Had some pretty cold temperatures and frost during the week.  Lowest was four degrees on Wednesday.  The sun feels nice, but the wicked wind is always with us.  Last I heard, it’s to warm up, with rain.  I’ll take the warm, but not the rain.  We’d probably get sleet.

I see there are some Christmas decorations going up.  Looks nice but we have to get through Thanksgiving first, and it’s only a couple of weeks away.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-8909 and leave a message with your order.  Pierogie pick up will be on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Guess there is some kind of hunting going on.  I see hunters going up in the woods.  Don’t know if they’ve gotten anything, but good luck to all.  If you want to check hunting dates, look at Linda Raub’s Forksville news.  She’s really up on all that since she and her family do hunt.

Some birthday wishes to send out.  Happy Birthday to Serenity Laird and Reese Baton who both celebrate on the 23rd.  Cassidy Brown ‘s special day is on the 30th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

I haven’t seen much ice on the ponds so far.  Going past Lake Jean the other day, there were just dribs and drabs along the shore line.  May be a little early yet.

There will still be things going on around the County.  Keep an eye on the Sully for these events.  Might be something you’d like to do.

If you missed the New Albany Volunteer Fire Co. play, you still have time.  The play, A Fractured Hee Haw will be presented again on Friday and Saturday, the 22nd and 23rd, 7 p.m. at the Fire Hall in New Albany.  There will be a bag auction, basket raffles, food and beverages for sale each evening.  Take time to go and support the Fire Company.

Bob and I enjoyed lunch, with some of his classmates, at Angelo’s Restaurant in Wyoming on Saturday.  They are making plans for their 60th high school class reunion next July.  Thirteen were in attendance and all had a nice time and got some things taken care of.

I will say Happy Thanksgiving now as some may not get the paper in time for the following week.  Enjoy your time with family and friends.  Give thanks to those who cannot be with us due to serving out of Country to keep us free.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week, whether it’s warm, cold, sunny or rainy.  Gotta put up with this kinds of weather.  It’s winter, ya know.

Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail met a news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Lopez, PA Posted on November 15, 2019 by Bob McGuireNovember 15, 2019

Guess we have to expect this cold weather we’re getting.  It’s that time of year, even though it’s a little early.  We had some really cold mornings and some nice days when it warmed up.  Saturday we had only 7 degrees early, but did get nice during the day.  We did have some snow that covered the grass and the road, but the sun took care of that pretty quickly.  Heard we are to get an arctic blast during the week and then warm up again.  Mother Nature still wants to play tricks on us.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order call 570-928-8909 and leave a message with your order on the phone.  There will be pierogie pick up on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

I missed some birthdays again last week.  So, Happy Belated Birthday to Grayson Burke who turned 4 on the 8th; and to “B” who celebrated on the 11th.  Hope you had a good day.

Happy Birthday to Aiden Sperry, 13th; Monica Black, 16th; Alek Laird and Mike McDonald, 19th; and Jaeden Patson, 20th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to TJ and Alison Lowden as the celebrate on the 17th.  Have a super day.

Bob and I had visitors on Saturday when his sister, Lola Mattie, Forty Fort, and his niece, Georgia Martin, Swoyersville, stopped by to visit.  They also visited next door with their cousin, Irene Pequignot, Linden, who had come to spend the weekend at her home here.  Nice time for all.

Don’t know if there is hunting now or not.  If so, good luck to all.  I don’t hunt so don’t keep tract of the schedule.

We still have a couple of Lopez mugs in stock for sale.  We have 2013 (EUB Church) and 2015 (Jackson Hotel).   $20 each.  If shipped, postage is extra.  They make nice Christmas gifts.  If interested, contact me at the information below.

Still don’t get out much, but improving every day.  Thanks for the get well cards.  They are appreciated.

I failed to mention Veterans Day last week, so hope you thanked those who have served and are serving to keep us safe and free.   They are an elite bunch of men and women doing a great job for our country.

Guess that’s about it.  Keep and eye on the Sully for things going on.  I’m sure there will be some.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Well, hope you all remembered to turn your clocks back on Sunday morning.  I failed to mention it in my news last week.

We had some really frosty, cold, windy days and had some really nice days too. Guess it’s that time of year to expect the weather we’re getting.

The Civic Association Halloween party was a big success, despite the rain, wind and even a tornado warning.  The kids had a great time and Brian had the trailer decorated and covered to keep the rain out.  Thanks to all who donated to make this a fun event.   Thanks to Nina and Brian for chairing and the judges.    Hope next year is as much fun.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order call 570-928-8909 and leave a message on the phone.  There will be pierogie pick up on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 19th, 6 p.m. at the Township Building.

I failed to mention birthdays and anniversaries so here are some for the end of October.

Happy Belated birthday wishes to Maddie Pochatko, 24 October; Marty Watley, 25th; Makayla Day, 27th, Lydia Spinosa, 28th; and Leo McDonald and Misty Pequignot, 31st.  Hope you had a nice day.

Happy Belated anniversary to Bruce and Helen Amon, 24 October; Tom and Kristin Iwancio, 25th and Marty and Dee Whatley, 27th.  Hope it was great.

Here are some birthdays for the first part of November.  Tim Bullis, 5th; Devon DeSanto and Tai Iwancio, 6th; and Terry Bullis, 7th.  Have a nice day.

Guess that’s about it.  I haven’t been out and about too much yet, so keep and eye on the Sully for things that may be going on that you’d like to attend.  I hear we may get a few flurries and some rain during the week, then get  nice again.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Enjoy your week.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Again, as in the past, the civic association had their Halloween Social. Attendees were paraded around, Winners were picked, they were given a goodies bag, fed cookies candy and punch and then Brian got them loaded on his COVERD hay trailer to cruse around town to stop at the homes that had their porch light on. The costumed group covered Lopez and added more goodies to their stach. A great night was had by all.

There they go.

Sorry, I didn’t get any new in last week.  I was sick and wasn’t by the computer at all.  I’m getting better, slowly; not there yet, but hopefully every day is better.

Since I wasn’t out all week, I don’t know of things going on.  The weather was pretty nice.  Sunday we had some heavy rain in the morning, but turned out nice in the afternoon.

Civic Halloween party will by Thursday, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Please have your porch light on if you want the kids to stop by after the party.

Keep an eye on the Sully for activities going on that you might be interested in.

Don’t know what the weather will be for the week, but hope it’s nice.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 24, 2019 by Bob McGuireOctober 24, 2019

Had another week of up and down weather.  Had pouring rain all day Monday.  Had some frosty mornings and then a warm up during the day.  Saturday and Sunday we were hit with frosts, but got nice after a while.  Last I heard, we may get some showers and cooler weather during the week, but the weekend is to be really warm again.  I’ll take it.  Just not ready for what will soon be coming.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly and a couple of friends, came up from Landenberg to spend the weekend at their home here.  They all enjoyed the Fall Festival in Forksville, even with the rain that dampened them for a while.  It did get warm and sun shiny later in the day.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home on Church Street.

Don’t forget that Halloween will be coming up on the 31st.  The party will be held at the Pavilion at 6 p.m.  Prizes, treats and fun, so get your costume ready and come on over.   Please remember to leave your porch light on if you want all these “spooks” to stop by.

Civic dues are now due.  See Heather McDonald to pay your 2020 dues or any that you have been lax on.

Bob McGuire, Jr., Hunlock Creek, Brian McGuire and Nina Weslowski enjoyed an old fashioned “weenie” roast on Friday evening with us.  Weather was a little chilly, but a nice bonfire was going to roast the dogs and keep warm.   Missed you Alex.

Haven’t heard if there have been any lucky archery deer hunters in this area.  Don’t know how long the season is, but good luck anyway.

Happy Birthday to Marie Cikovic, 19th; Ted Hubiak, 20th; Aine Lee McDonald, 21st.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Kevin and Terri Bullis as they celebrate on the 20th.  Have a good day.

Keep an eye on the Sully for things that may be coming up that you might be interested in.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  Please call 570-928-8909 and leave your order on the phone.  There will be pierogie pick up on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Thank you for your order.

The Halloween and Fall decorations are looking quite nice at the homes around town.  I see there are a lot of pumpkins to make pie, pumpkin roll and cookies when Halloween is over and they can be used.

Guess that’s about it for now.  Enjoy your week, whatever you plan to do, even if we get some sprinkles.  Have your boots and umbrella handy.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will put it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

An old building in town was just torn down. It was once the Hallabuk home. One photo was saved from it was a photo of Helen Hallabuk taken some time ago.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 9, 2019 by Bob McGuireOctober 15, 2019

We are getting some frosty weather.  I guess it’s that time of year.  We did have some nice days after cool mornings.  Saturday we had a good frost.  We had rain, wind and cold too.  I still haven’t seen any geese going South.  Guess I’m just not out when they are flying over.

It is with sadness that I report another loss in our community.  Sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Bob Neufer who passed away on Saturday.  He was a big part of the community, being very involved with St. Vladimir’s Church, the Civic Association and mowing lawns.  He will truly be missed.

Got the following e-mail from William Fox in Lesterville, after reading about the black panther.  He said they were at Foxes Den up there and the guys saw a Fisher Cat in the back yard for a second time.  He thinks rather than a black panther it was the Fisher Cat.  He said it’s a pretty good size and runs like a cat.  So, maybe no black panther, just a Fisher Cat.

While Alex and Ginny Stavisky were here recently they were out quadding up past Cold Spring and they saw a porcupine.  Nothing unusual; he just thought with the mention of the other animals, he would mention what they saw.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 15th, at the TOWNSHIP BUILDING.  I think it will be too cold at the Pavilion.  Civic dues are still being taken by Heather McDonald.  See her to pay your 2020 dues or any years you may be behind on.

Halloween is fast approaching.  The annual party will be on Halloween, the 31st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Goodies and prizes.  If you’d like the ghosts and goblins to stop by your house, please leave your porch light on.

B’s gang sends Congratulations and Best Wishes to Billy and Tori (Robinson) Stasiak as they were married on Saturday at Connell’s Dam.  Beautiful day for an outdoor wedding.

Sympathy from the community to the family and relatives of Victor Stavisky who recently passed away.

Happy Birthday wishes to Sally Houseknecht, 12th; Tom Iwancio and Mickey Bednar, 13th; Brad Hubiak and Bob Burke, 14th; Josh Anderson and Ken Smith, 17th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Ted and Fay Puzo as they celebrate on the 14th.  Have a good day.

Don’t forget, Saturday and Sunday, the 12th and 13th,  is the 39th Sullivan County Fall Festival, held at the Forksville Fair Grounds, rain or shine.  Lots of food, kids activities, demonstrations, lumberjack/chainsaw carving competition.  Take a ride down and enjoy the time there.

TJ, Allison and Jase Lowden,  along with Wesson, Marlton, NJ, spent a few days at their home on Church Street and visited his parents, Ted and Mary on Maple Terrace.  They did some archery deer hunting while they were here.

I didn’t realize archery for deer is in now.  Good luck hunters.  Haven’t heard if there were any lucky hunters so far.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Will really need the umbrellas and boots.  Heard we are to get some substantial rain most of the week.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

A very lovely bridal photo of some one we think was a local person , but we just don’t know who.

Lopez, PA Posted on October 2, 2019 by Bob McGuireOctober 3, 2019

Had a week with some pretty warm temperatures, after cool mornings.  Maybe we’ll get a few more.  Did have rain all day Thursday and some on Saturday.  The colors are changing and the leaves are falling.  Had a report of four big flocks of geese going South on Sunday morning.  The chipmunks are busily packing their mouths with seeds to store for the winter.  Lots of Fall decorations out around town.  They all look so festive.

OK.  Here we go.  Got a call about another “cat” outside Lopez on Route 487, near Lesterville. This was on Friday between 5:30 and 6 pm.   But this time, it was a black panther.  I’m only reporting what I was told.  First, they thought it was a bear, but it glided across the road.  A car coming along stopped and watched it for a while too.  It was definitely a black panther, according to the phone caller.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Alex and Ginny Stavisky, Palm Bay, FL, spent some time at their home on Main Street.  Enjoyed the nice Fall weather and watching the leaves changing.

Don’t forget the Fall Festival coming up on Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13 at the Forksville Fairgrounds.  Keep an eye on the Sully for details.

Halloween is on the horizon.  Get your costume ready.  The Lopez Civic Association will hold their annual Halloween party on the 31st, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Treats and goodies and prizes.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 15th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion, weather permitting.  If too cold or stormy, will be at the Township Building.  Have you paid your 2020 dues?  They are now due.  If you haven’t paid 2019, they are also due.  See Membership Chairperson, Heather McDonald to take care of this.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent Sunday and Monday at their home on Church Street and did some, hopefully, last time mowing there.  Weather was really nice while they were here.

Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Kapler, October 1st;  Joe Fanning and Kyleigh McDonald (10), 2nd;  Gwen Hontz and Dylon Pequignot, 7th; Leah Elizabeth Risser (10) and Ryan Weisbrod, 8th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Tony and Donna (Lansberry) Cikovic as their special day is the 2nd.  Have a good day. Guess that’s it.  Enjoy your week, even if we get a little rain. Hopefully we’ll have some nice, Fall weather to enjoy.   Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

SEPTEMBER 25. 2019

Lopez, PA Posted on September 25, 2019 by Bob McGuireSeptember 25, 2019

As I sit here early Monday morning typing my news, it is quite foggy out there.

GUESS WHAT!!!!!   We had NO rain all week.  It was such a beautiful week with warm temperatures and lots of sunshine.  Don’t think it’s the same for this week.  Looks like rain a couple of days.  The leaves are falling; the humming birds have gone; the chipmunks are still here filling their cheeks with bird seed.

Irene Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home on Church Street.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Next Civic meeting will be Tuesday, the 15th of October, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion if the weather is nice.  If not, it will be held at the Township Building.

Civic dues are now due for 2020.  See Heather McDonald to pay yours and for 2019, if they haven’t been paid.

Halloween is just around the corner.  Have you thought of how you might dress for that spooky day.

Bob and I spent Saturday visiting our son, Bob Jr., Hunlock Creek, and helped him work on a couple projects.  Weather was perfect for outdoor work and was a nice time.

Who has seen the mountain lion again in Lopez?  Guess he/she likes it here and wants to hang around.  Hope someone is able to get a picture when seen.

Get well wishes to Rev Mother Christophora, Ellwood City, as she had knee surgery.  Hope she continues to heal well.  Thoughts and prayers going her way.

Keep an eye on the Sully for events that are coming up in October.

Happy Birthday wishes to Bob Day, 23rd; Annaliese Froese and Jon-Paul Matychak, 25th; Ted Beaver and Dinky Burke, 27th; and Kurt Schroeder, 29th.  Have a nice day.

B’s gang send birthday wishes to Tom Finan as he celebrates on the 25th.  Have a good day.

Happy Anniversary to Chris and Michele Craig, 27th; and Dustin and Sam Burke, 28th.  Congrats and many more.

Guess that wraps it up for this time.  Enjoy your week.  A little rain never hurts.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

I got a note from a Jeff Shay along with a photo of a framed advertising picture containing a thermometer. He said it was in the first house he bought some years ago and kept it. Jeff told me he knew nothing about Lopez until he found www.lopezpa.com on the internet. Then he sent the photo to me. Here it is coompliments of Jeff Shay.

Lopez, PA Posted on September 18, 2019 by Bob McGuireSeptember 23, 2019

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and those that attended the Bow Hunters Festival had a good time.  Weather is still pretty nice so far.  We did have one day with pouring rain and Saturday it rained lightly all day.  The leaves are falling, so that says something.  Don’t want that quite yet.  Haven’t seen any geese so far, so that’s a good sign.  The humming birds are still around, as well as the chipmunks.  We are to get some really warm weather during the week.  I’ll take it.

There was a mountain lion spotted in Lopez last Friday morning.  Got a call from Dawn Guglielmi that she saw it about 6 a.m.  She said it was a magical and beautiful animal.  Someone told her it was probably a bob cat and she said not; had a large head and long tail.  It was crawling up to Hail’s farm to get their chickens.  She called them, got them out of bed, but said she wanted them to know the lion was coming their way.  They got up and did see it.  Paul shot twice and the noise from the gun scared it so bad it jumped the fence and took off for the woods.  Dawn said she’s seen bear, deer and small animals, but never a mountain lion.  Paul thought they come from the woods up Dutch Mountain way.  So, three people did see the lion, so there’s proof they are around.   I know the late Mr. Harvey told me he’d seen them up Dutch Mountain where he lived.

St. Vladimir’s Church has peirogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Thank you to whoever put the beautiful hanging flower on Sonnie Decker’s porch.  It’s a pale orangish color and so pretty.  Kaeleigh, Kyleigh and I have been watering it to keep it alive.  It’s doing so well and I think Sonnie would be happy and it’s a nice reminder of what he did with flowers there.

Happy Birthday to Mya Evans, 20th; Roland Dayton, 21st; and Bob Day, 23rd.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Coming up in October is the Fall Festival at the Forksville Fair Grounds.  Watch the Sully for information on this event.

Hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner.

Bob and I visited last Thursday with his sister, Lola and Mike Mattie in Forty Fort.  She had just come home from having surgery.  Get well and feel better soon.

Alex Stavisky, Palm Bay, FL, just couldn’t stay away.  He’s spending some time at his place here and doing some odd jobs.  Wants to see the fall foliage and the leaves changing.   Should be soon.

I think that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; should be half decent.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Thanks for reading and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day Holiday.  Did get some rain, but not a lot.  Rest of the week was pretty nice, after some cool mornings.  I guess cool weather is on the way.  Haven’t seen any geese flying South yet, but probably won’t be long.  The humming birds are still active at the feeders, along with the other birds.  The chipmunks are bouncing around looking for seeds to store for the cold weather.  Heat and humidity coming back the middle of the week, but that’s fine with me.   I did see a bunch of turkeys in the cemetery.  Usually only two show up, but this time there were ten, poking around trying to find grub for the day.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order yours, call 570-928-1099.

The next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 17th, 7 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Hope it’s still warm then.  Membership dues are due for 2020 and your 2019 dues, if you haven’t paid them.  See Heather McDonald to renew or become a new member of the Civic Association.

Bow Hunters Festival is coming up on the weekend.  Always a fun place for kids and adults to try their skill with shooting at targets, moving and still.  Other things to see and do that weekend.  Watch the Sully for information on this event, held at the Forksville Fair grounds.

Joe and Diane Fanning, along with Molly, Landenberg, spent a few days at their home here.

I’m probably forgetting something, but I guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week; won’t be a whole lot more of them.  We can only hope for a mild winter.  Gardens are winding down and flower beds are starting to show signs of cool weather.  Have news, mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  Have a good week and I’ll be here next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day Holiday.  Weather was really great for most of the week.  Looks like we’re in for some rain, but we can handle that.  It’s nothing compared to what folks in the South are experiencing from Hurricane Dorian.

Sullivan County Fair is over for this year.  Next up is the Bow Hunter’s Festival, coming up next week.  Watch the Sully for details on this event.

Bob and I were at World’s End State Park where he (UVBOB) did a fluorescent mineral program for the campers and some public there.  There was a nice crowd of adults, and kids, that came.  Thanks to Jane Swift for having us again this year.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Happy Birthday wishes to Alexia Vermiere, 13th; JoAnn McDonald and Carmela Walosin, 19th.  Have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Jim and Barbara Craig as they celebrate 59 years on the 10th.  They are now residents of FL and hope they are missing Hurricane  Dorian.

Anniversary wishes also to Scott and Susan Aharonian as they celebrate on the 14th.  Have a nice day.

Alex Stavisky, Palm Bay, FL, spent quite some time in Lopez recently, doing some odd jobs at his place on Main Street.  We enjoyed having him for a good, old fashioned “weinee” roast over an open fire and did lots of visiting, telling happenings, catching up and laughing.  Was a great time!  Bob said “best time ever”, thanks Al.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Membership dues for 2020 are now due.  If you haven’t paid 2019, now is the time to do that too.  See Heather McDonald to pay your dues or become a member of the Civic Association.

Guess that’s it for now.  We may have a few rainy days for the week, but enjoy whatever your plans are.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 28, 2019 by Bob McGuireSeptember 4, 2019

Well, we finally had a pretty good week with only one day of rain.  The weekend was perfect for camping, reunions and other activities.  Supposed to be pretty good this week, too, with maybe some rain on Wednesday.  Sounds good to me.  We may finally be having some summer-like weather, even if it’s a little late.

Irene (Huray) Pequignot, Linden, spent the weekend at her home on Church Street.  She attended her 50th class reunion, class of 1969, which was held at the Dushore American Legion.  Kevin Pequignot from the Kast Hotel in Williamsport, and one of his cooks, Holly, did the catering for the event.  There were thirty-three classmates who came and a total of fifty-one people.  All had a great time and decided to try to get together once a year for a picnic, for whoever can make it.

The Civic Association is looking for a good, used, working, refrigerator.  If you are up-grading and getting rid of your working refrigerator and would like to donate it to the Civic Association, contact Bob at the information below.  Would be appreciated.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Civic Association dues will be coming due in September for 2020.  If you have not yet paid your 2019 dues, now would be the time to do so, so you don’t lose your membership status.  See Heather McDonald to pay your dues.

The next Civic Association meeting will be on Tuesday, September 17th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Happy Birthday to Kristin (McDonald) Mensch, September 5th;and  Miles Baton, 8th.  Have a nice day.

B’s gang says Happy Birthday to Roda Stasiak as she celebrates on the 6th.  Have a great day!

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Rose (McDonald) Sbardella as the celebrate their special day on the 5th.  Many more.

Sr. Ella Mae McDonald, Trenton, NJ,  spent some time recently with JoAnn McDonald, Sayre, and with her brother, Leo, in Dushore.  Nice family visit.

Sullivan County Fair will be coming up this week  with lots going on.  Check the Sully for all those activities and programs.  Lots of family fun there.  Not long after that, the Bow Hunter’s Festival will be held at the Forksville Fair Grounds.  That’s always a good place to go and have fun.

Guess that’s the news.  Enjoy your week and the Labor Day weekend.  It’s the last “hurrah” of the summer.  Weather is to be half decent, from what I heard last.  Have news call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you.  I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

Lopez, PA Posted on August 21, 2019 by Bob McGuireSeptember 4, 2019

Another week of up and down weather.  Monday and Wednesday nice.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we were blessed with rain.  Saturday was another nice day.  Sunday was something else.  Bad thunder storm with high winds, rain and lightning.  We were on our way home from Litchfield and it got so windy and the rain came so fast.  It poured gang busters and the wind was wicked.  In a very short time the wind had blown limbs off trees and knocked some trees down, landing in the road or along the road. Getting closer to Towanda, it wasn’t so bad, but still rained all the way home.  I did hear that the storm was as bad here too.  I know folks were complaining at the picnic about their gardens not doing so well because of all the rain and not enough sun.  Half the week is to be stormy and the last half nice again, if you can believe that.

TJ, Allison, Jase, along with Wesson, enjoyed a few days at their home on Church Street and visited his parents, Ted and Mary on Maple Terrace.  They all celebrated TJ’s birthday.  Nice time for all.

Joe and Diane Fanning, Molly, Landenberg, and grand daughter, Haley Latch, St. Georges, DE, spent some time at their home here and got a lot of projects done, with Haley being a big help.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, stopped by on Monday on their way to RIT, Rochester, NY, where Tyler will begin his Freshman year there.  He’s going to be studying in the Computer field.  We wish him good luck.

Happy Birthday wishes to Mary (Maximiek) Santiago, 21st; Macrina Pochatko, 23rd, Karly Amon, 26th; and Gaige Burke, 29th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

Happy Anniversary to Jason and Heather Burke as they celebrate on the 26th.  Have a good day.

School will be starting on Thursday, the 22nd, so please be aware of kids waiting for the buses.  Use common sense and slow down when you see the bus and the kids too.

Don and Renie (Kravitz) Risser spent a week in town along with their son, Aaron, and granddaughter, Leah, and the family dogs.  They went to the Eagles Mere Craft Show and stopped at the Eagles Mere Air and Auto Museums. Time was spent paddle boarding, hiking, and fishing.  Leah caught the most fish–16!!!  Don spotted a bear and her three cubs one morning. Sienna Miller, a cousin, spent a day at the house. On Sunday, Mary Kravetz and Annabelle Kravetz came for brunch. Everyone enjoyed the nice weather–except for the first night with no power or telephone!

Sullivan County Fair is coming up soon, along with other things going on around the County.  Keep an eye on the Sully to find out and it might be something you’d be interested in.

Guess that’s the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  Just keep the umbrella and rain boots handy and you’ll be fine.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I’ll get it in for you. I’ll be here next time and thanks for reading.

AUGUST 7, 2019

Lopez, PA Posted on August 7, 2019 by Bob McGuireAugust 7, 2019

What can I say!!  We had a couple of really miserable days with heavy rain.  Was hard to get things done for the weekend, but Saturday turned out so nice for Old Home Day.  Finally, no rain.  Sunday was as nice with sun, warmth and a nice breeze.

The Civic Association would like to THANK EVERYONE who made our Old Home Day another success.  To all who donated in any way, volunteered their time and all of you who came to support us, it was so much appreciated.  Special thanks goes to Brian McGuire for chairing the event.  A lot of hard work; a job well done.

The annual Homza reunion was held on Saturday at Connell’s Dam.  Weekend visitors at the Huray home included:  Irene Pequignot; George Homza; Sophie Bednar; Marge Whipple; Michey and Karen Bednar; Paul and Marge Bednar; Paul, Susan, Andrew and Morgan Bednar; Shawn Pequignot and friend, Jess; Dylon and Misty Pequignot and friend, Hunter; Kevin and Alyssa Pequignot; Jennifer Pequignot and friend, Andy; Elexus Dunklegerger; serenity and Alek Laird.   They took a ride up to Martin’s swimming hole and there was a bear laying in the road in front of Betty Popso’s home.  They also saw two buck and a doe in the cemetery.  They also visited Sulfur swimming hole and did some berry picking.  Good time for all.

St. Vladimir’s Church has pierogies for sale.  To order, call 570-928-1099.

Bob, Jr. and Tyler McGuire, Hunlock Creek, spent Saturday with Bob and JoAnn McGuire, Brian McGuire, Nina Weslowski, and helped at Old Home Day.

Don’t forget.  The 4-H Sullivan County Rocketry Club will hold their launch on Saturday, the 10th, at Harvey Vough’s farm at 10 a.m.   Rain date will be Sunday, the 11th.

Happy Birthday wishes to Stephen Mikolajczyk and Sherill Dayton, August 4th; Kyle Froese and Kathy Lebo, 9th; Randy Lebo, Jackie Craig, and Mary Lowden, 10th; and Kari Spinosa, 11th.  Hope you all have a nice day.

“Camper City” (can’t call it “tent city” anymore; no tents) was filled with many campers for some time last week and the weekend.  The Borick relatives were here and many of their friends came to spend time and enjoy Old Home Day.  Many kids were there this year, along with some family dogs.  They had a super time while they were here.

Job Corps CRC will have their annual picnic on Thursday, the 15th, 5:30 p.m. at the Pavilion.  This is for anyone in the community who would like to attend, have a good meal, and find out the latest happenings at Job Corps.  They are doing some pretty amazing things there.

Next Civic meeting will be on Tuesday, the 20th, 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Hope you can make it.    September will be the start of new memberships and renewals for 2020.  If you haven’t paid your 2019 membership, now is the time to do that.  See Heather McDonald.

Guess that takes care of the news for now.  Enjoy your week.  I heard it’s finally to be pretty nice.  Hope so.  Have news, call me at 570-928-9238; mail me; see me; or e-mail me at news@lopezpa.com.  I will get it in for you.  Thanks

Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Weather was pretty good most of the week, with a couple of showers along the way.  Hope other Nature will be in our favor Saturday for Old Home Day.  I saw on TV there may be a couple showers early in the week, but the weekend looked good.
